I’ve had a really rough time with this ssd, doesn’t seem to have any online driver support or availability, poor comparability and overall not worth it. I got it because it was all best buy had at the time but i’d strongly recommend against this SSD, if you really want samsung get the evo, otherwise go with another brand

Speed is not as expected, it gets hot very fast even with light use, I hope it could last.

My husband said that his doesn’t work and it won’t give him the extra storage he needs

I build gaming pc and i had 4 more item worth of $9 togather for price match . I gave up and walk out , since they have no idea how to process price match . I am telling people best buy do not have any easy process for price match for their existing price change . I will not goong to buy membership again . Complete 1 stat

I've used other Samsung ssds and they worked great. I have a 990 Pro 2TB in my desktop and it's fast. This is a 990 Evo plus which is a step under the pro series if ssds. I find this great for my laptop if you want pretty fast speeds for a good price and a lot of storage. It's a Gen 4 drive not a Gen 5 which in 2024 going into 2025 I wish it was future proofed with pcie gen 5 but oh well.Gen 5 is pretty new still and no tangible differences in my honest opinion. The 2TB size offers ample space for your games, photos, apps and so forth. But if you use this in a PlayStation 5 Sony does suggest using a heat sink on the SSD which this doesn't have unfortunately. As far as the speed goes it's rated at 7250 MB per second for read speeds. which is fast enough for most people. I downloaded a few games and played it from this SSD with no issues at all. Also this has a five year warranty should any issue arise with the SSD which is nice to have in case of malfunctions with the SSD. Otherwise this is a good value SSD with good performance

Only has 2 lanes of pcie-5. Wait for the real-deal to come out.

The Samsung 990 EVO PLUS SSD 2TB, PCIe Gen 4x4 | 5x2 M.2 2280, with speeds up to 7,250 MB/s, is by far my favorite upgrade for my ASUS ROG Zephyrus G16 (2024), which I reviewed last March. I've been playing a lot of FPS and third-person games, and they run much better than before. I am now able to set my graphics settings at a much higher level across the board. Games have always looked fantastic on the G16; however, I can now fully enjoy them with my HP U27 27" IPS LED 4K UHD FreeSync Monitor, which I reviewed in 2020. I am now able to run games at 3840 x 2160 resolution instead of 1920 x 1080, providing a much richer gaming experience. Another key use for my laptop is CAD and Blender work. Working with 3D models that contain a lot of data can be demanding on laptops. Adding the Samsung 990 EVO SSD to my setup has transformed my G16 into my main gaming and drafting laptop. For those looking to install this SSD, I recommend watching a video tutorial on how to remove the backplate from your laptop. The process was straightforward—simply remove 11 T5 screws, pull off the backplate, and insert the memory into the appropriate slot as per the computer manufacturer's instructions. Overall, the great price and tremendous value make this an upgrade that is hard to pass up!

Summary: Faster than most budget minded NVME SSD’s (even Samsung’s own 990 EVO) with better thermal characteristics, for me the higher price of the Samsung 990 EVO Plus was worth it for the peace of mind. Pros: - Faster than fast - More efficient, handles the heat better - Future proofing with x4 PCIe 4.0 or x2 PCIe 5.0 as more devices show up x2. A Matter of Opinion: - There are cheaper options, but aren't there always? Cons: - I couldn’t find any. The NVME SSD Market is a bewildering battlefield of features/cost that almost feels like to get the right one, you have to spend a lot of time when all you want to do is enjoy the speed thrills they can bring. The original budget conscious 990 EVO was okay, but the PLUS is the way to go, at least for me. I first tested it in an external case hooked up by TB4, and you can really feel the heat of cheaper models. This one even under sustained loads never got that hot. I am more comfortable putting it into my PlayStation where it flies. And it has speed to spare for that. Overall, the temptation might be to spend less… nope gets too hot. Spend more, and not sure you would see any performance benefits. I don’t with my older Black SN850X. The Samsung -990 EVO Plus is worth looking at for that sweet spot in between.

The Samsung 990 EVO PLUS SSD 2TB, PCIe Gen 4x4, is a fantastic Solid State Drive that is easy to install and reads data at a high rate. I installed this in a Alienware R17 gaming laptop that already had a SSD installed. I was able to open the back of the laptop, remove a cover screw and cover, install the Samsung 990 EVO PLUS SSD by plugging it into the motherboard, and then replacing the cover screw and cover. I replaced the back of the laptop and used the Windows Disk Management tool to create a volume on the Samsung 990 EVO PLUS SSD. Once the volume was created, Windows was able to "see" the SSD and I was able to start saving to it. I found the games that I installed on the Samsung 990 EVO PLUS SSD loaded noticeably faster than the speed they had loaded at before with the previous SSD. I also noticed that when games had updates, the part of the update that was the read/write to the SSD absolutely flew. The box states that the Samsung 990 EVO PLUS SSD can get up to 7250 MB/s speeds and that seems believable. To me, this is everything that you would want from a SSD. It was able to be quickly installed, Windows saw it easily, and it works incredibly well when I pull up applications stored on the drive. I would recommend this SSD for all users.

160 dollars for this and it cant come with the tiniest screw to install it.

For the last week, I have been testing the 2 TB Samsung 990 Evo Plus SSD. Overall, I love it because it offers the fastest speeds and a price that is a fantastic value. Inside the box were the SSD and some paperwork. I would caution you to ground yourself before opening the box. For some strange reason, the SSD sits loose in the box and is not protected with an antistatic bag. In my case, it fell out while I was opening the box. Luckily, I knew to ground myself before picking it back up. Installing the SSD in my gaming laptop was simple. Remove a few screws, gently pry open the bottom cover, and install the drive in an empty M.2 slot. Reverse the process, and the installation was complete. From there, I opened Windows Disk Manager to initialize and format the drive. This is also where I could create partitions. Since I am using the SSD for gaming storage, I opted for just one partition. After a reboot, the SSD worked flawlessly. I was able to move my game library at lightning-fast speeds. Running the games I installed on the SSD was also flawless. Everything loaded up as if it were on my main drive. No hesitation, no lag, just flawless SSD power. With all that said, I highly recommend buying this hard drive. The power, speed, easy installation, and value price make this the perfect SSD for gaming and storage.

I picked this up with the intent of upgrading the internal storage in my ROG Ally. Full disclosure, I have the original ROG Ally that was designed to take the smaller SSD sticks, but I added an aftermarket adapter that allows me to use full-size SSD sticks. After this arrived, I set out to clone my existing SSD inside my ROG Ally. The clone process took a bit of time, thanks to the large Steam library on my device. Once it was done, I cracked open the Ally, swapped the drives, and booted back up. I went from having about 700 GB free (on a 1TB drive) to having about 1TB free. I've been using it for several days now and haven't noticed any issues. I was on the fence about installing an additional heatsink since this is a larger drive, but I ended up deciding against it. I can run my Ally on Performance or Turbo and I don't notice any additional heat being produced compared to before, and the device just keeps chugging along. I was glad this worked out, because ever since I picked up an Ally, that's been my primary gaming device. If this hadn't have worked out, then I probably would've checked to see if it worked in my PS5. All in all, I'm really happy with how easy this upgrade process was, and now I'm glad that I have a larger drive in there for more games to be added.

Non-SSD storage is now a deficiency. Using anything other than an SSD drive to me feels slow for whatever I'm dealing with. I can never have too much SSD storage. The Samsung 990 EVO Plus is a no brainer choice when it comes to SSD storage. Installing M.2 2280 SSD is installing an M.2 2280 SSD. When it comes to setup you're not going to get any major differences. From an SSD drive you're looking for one thing, and one thing alone, speed. I've tried the Samsung 990 EVO Plus 2 TB SSD in two devices; a PS5 Pro, and a Rog Ally X. In both devices it worked flawlessly. I couldn't detect any slowdowns, even after long usage with games that had to have pushed the devices thus increasing heat. While I didn't run any tests to test Samsung's claim of a maximum write speed of 6300 megabytes per second, or a maximum read speed of 7250 megabytes per second, I think the fact that I was comfortable enough not to says a lot. For those looking to add additional SSD storage, the Samsung 990 EVO Plus is a no brainer option. While I have the 2 TB option, there being a 4 TB option from a reliable brand like Samsung makes the line an even clearer choice for increasing storage space.

The Samsung 990 EVO Plus 2TB SSD delivers outstanding performance. The read and write speeds are extremely fast, making boot times and file transfers almost instant. It’s perfect for gaming, heavy workloads, and day-to-day use. The drive runs cool, is very reliable, and the installation is simple. With Samsung’s reputation and performance, this SSD is absolutely worth the upgrade. :)

I've been using this as additional storage for my new PS5 Pro I recently got. I was actually waiting on setting it up until I got the drive so I could transfer everything over. It took all of maybe a minute to open it up and get the drive screwed into place since it's so much easier to access now. Once it was installed and I fired up the Pro, it went through it's initial process and took me to the Format m.2 Storage step. It did a quick test of the drive after doing so and came back with just under 6100MB/s. Not bad at all, but it is a little bit slower than what it's rated for. It's still more than fast enough to be used for the PS5. Loading times are undiscernible between loading from the PS5 Pro drive and the Samsung. I will say it was as fast or faster than the 990 Pro that was in my base Launch PS5 but that could just be due to the internal changed for the PS5 Pro. So far it's not disappointed. It's alleviated my concerns for not having enough space available for more games down the road, especially with them getting larger and larger. If you need some additional storage, be that to use in a PS5 or in a PC, this is a very good option for a good price.
