Best/expensice chromebook w/ worst battery ever

Best chromebook when it comes to screen resolution, gig wifi w/ mobile data option, processor speed/performance, large ram and storage, and sleek/slimmest w/ a fiery red design& lightest, also a built-in stylist tops off the features. However, the only reason I can't give this a 5 star rating is solely the ridiculous battery life...I couldn't believe Samsung would allow one of the most expensive chromebooks or any electronic device to have a battery life of 4 hrs maximum w/ minimum use while the battery is burning your lap and fingers through the keys...the battery is more fiery than the fiery red color...I would think that Samsung would have learned there lesson from the Note 9 battery crisis but I see they didn't.

So far the experience using this Chromebook has been fantastic. The hardware is fast, very fast. Boot times are minimal, any streamed 4K content looks fantastic though you can't play MP4 files. I downloaded numerous 4K demo samples and I found no file that would play them. I'm sure it's all about license costs, but with a micro SD card, I feel that watching videos at 4K on this device should have been a feature included. Its even blocked in the Linux environment. Still looking for a way past it, but so far no go.
So that is the first con. The second con is the battery life. I've had several Chromebooks over the years and I work in education and am the Chromebook repair tech. Anything and everything Chromebook comes to me and with 17000 devices, its never a slow day. If I turn the brightness down to about 60-75% its still very usable and the battery may last about 5-6 hours tops. Streaming media lowers that. For my use, I rarely ever am out of range of a charger and rarely use it for more than 4 hours at a time. But for a device bearing the Chromebook name should carry at least 8-10 hours minimum.
The final con is is maybe a bit of a nit pick, but the touch array across the screen is too visible. Unless I have the Chromebook at a comfortable distance from my face (18 or so inches +) they are no longer visible. But if I have the screen closer, or am using it like a tablet, its very visible. It gives the appearance of having a low pixel per sq/inch. YMMV since everyone's vision is different.
I put the cons first because that is usually what people are looking for. The good things are numerous and I don't think need much more than a list of them. The 4K screen is beautiful. Crisp, clear, bright when it needs to be and black when it needs to be. The keyboard is comfortable. Good distance of actuation key presses. The track pad is very nice. Smooth and responsive. Large enough to be comfortable but not so wide that your palms touch it constantly. The fingerprint sensor is very fast to respond and so far has had a high accuracy. The front facing camera is adequate and the keyboard camera/back facing camera is good enough for a Chromebook I guess, I just don't have much use for it. The chassis is nice and firm. Very very little flex in the LCD panel and the base half. That is so crazy because this Chromebook is thin, very thin.
If the price tag isn't too much for you, then buy this Chromebook. Its a huge step forward and frankly every other manufacturer needs to up their game to stay a premium device.

I upgraded to this from a Pixelbook cause I am not a fan of the look of the Pixelbook Go. This was a great choice. Screen is Awesome and keyboard as good as the Pixelbook. With my use case I do not see the issues with the battery as I am mostly always plugged in. This thing is very fast at launching apps. I do have an issue with a couple Android apps that I did not have with the Pixelbook. My biggest issue is that I cannot access my company email with Outlook for Android. Outlook will not start if Intune Company Portal is installed. This works on the Pixelbook.

PROS: looks great...lightweight...fast...voice-to-text works well...good camera and video quality during Zoom type meetings
CONS: screen randomly dims/brightens/dims and is especially ANNOYING during important meetings: Zoom, etc.; POOR battery life: showing 2 + hours it died in 1 hour yesterday during Zoom on battery; runs WARM to HOT; annoying caps lock; POOR WARRANTY SERVICE: the screen cracked very early for no apparent reason...never dropped it or sat on it, Samsung repair in New Jersey refusd to repair and wanted over $400 to fix. EXPENSIVE to purchase.

I have been having a great time using this premium chromebook. I was able to pick this up as an open box model for less than $500. The keyboard is solid and a pleasure to type on, the touch screen is responsive, and the stylus input is really good even if it does not have all the fancy S-Pen features. The screen is gorgeous and great for viewing content. The only 4K content I was able to view was on youtube. I was not able to get hulu to stream 4k to this chromebook, but support for that is supposedly coming.
Chromebook Android app support has grown over time and Linux support has improved as well. I'm able to comfortably run most android apps that I currently use on my phone as well as some good Linux apps. I was able to install Cura for 3d printing, Visual Studio Code, and the Linux version of Steam. From Steam I was able to run Northgard and Hacknet without issue. VSC i was able to use without issue. Cura I was mostly able to use without issue. I was not able to use the mouse drag functionality to view the model from different angles, but I was able to use the arrow keys to navigate. The rest of the interface worked as intended and since this laptop has a micro SD slot, I was able to load 3d files directly to a memory card and into the printer.
I only have 2 gripes with this machine: heat dissipation and battery life. I am usually near an outlet or I have a power bank with me to charge the laptop, so this is usually not a huge issue. There is a huge difference though, especially coming from a pixel slate whose battery lasted a couple days. This laptop's battery lasts the day usually before I need to charge it. I usually run about 75% screen brightness. The second gripe is heat dissipation, it is poor because this laptop can get uncomfortably hot near the top of the keyboard. The device is so sleek, thin and feels great in the hand and while using it. That comes at the cost of heat.
Overall I have enjoyed my time with this laptop. It is well worth the price if you can find a deal, but I would have some reservations about buying this laptop at full price.

Initially I kept getting errors that chrome os had failed and constantly rebooting or had to do a full reset. I was going to return, but it looks like this was resolved via update.
Build quality
The best built chromebook period. I purchased on sale for $800 and good luck finding another of this caliber for a chrome os. Samsung...good job. Hinge is good, it wobbles when switching to 2in1, which is not ideal. It looks as if the hinge is sturdy, but not "stiff". Don't expect to open this with one hand.
Display
The 4k panel is jaw dropping! Sure the bottom bezel has some thickness, but honestly I found it quite useful in tablet mode to move the laptop and adjusting the angle. I wasn't touching the screen which I came to appreciate. 4k youtube content, prime 4k on a laptop is fantastic even with work related tasks, it makes my macbook pro just boring. Now I have my macbook pro connected to my monitor and everything else is done on the chromebook. The panel gets so bright I have it on 50-60% indoors with ambient mode most of the time which is equivalent to almost max brightness on my mac.
Keyboard
The keyboard is very good. Is it the best? No, however it's has the appropriate response, key travel, and "click" for a laptop this thin. Don't expect to be wowed, but assured. Backlit control is odd to say though. You can't control the brightness where it's utilizing the same direction apple uses for its new ipad magic keyboard. The refresh button and the full screen button were things I never realized where so useful! The keypad is very smooth and fast with it being glass. I actually had to lower how fast the cursor moves by a notch. Very impressed.
Sound quality
Bottom line, get an external speaker preferably with a headphone jack. It's good, but yeah... No low end range here guys.
Ports
Thank you! One usb c on each side! That's all I have to say.
Battery life
Okay, many reviewers blasted this laptop with horrid battery life across the board. You can't find any "professional" review berating this device on battery where it's not recommended. DON'T take that into consideration of not purchasing. I knew going in using the laptop the battery isn't going to be great. The first week was maybe 5 hours, then when adaptive battery started to learn my usage I saw days where it took 8 hours until a charge was needed. YMMV
What did buyers expect? It's a 4k panel in a 13in chassis.....
Bottom line
If you know what your getting yourself into when purchasing this then please do. You won't be disappointed. Please research on this device before buying and being disappointed. It's one of those products where research and understanding the product is a must.

Very fast device. What's faster than the pixel book it replaced.
price is very high, but you know that before you buy it...
The screen is beautiful, and the fiesta red color is awesome.
Battery life is fairly low for a Chromebook at around five hours of normal use for me.
keyboard has a weird habit of repeating keys sometimes while typing. A little annoying to have to go back and remove duplicate letters. It seems to like firmer presses on the keys to avoid that.

I purchased an open box model of this Chromebook. I love Chrome OS, and this is easily the best Chrome OS device I have ever used. Sadly, many people still think Chrome OS is nothing more than a browser. With the addition of Android Apps (which now run MUCH better than when they were first launched on Chrome OS), and now Linux containers, Chrome OS is quickly becoming able to do everything a Windows laptop could do, with a MUCH cleaner and nicer operating system.
I probably would not recommend a Chromebook at this price range for someone who has never used a Chrome OS device before, but if you are familiar with what these devices can do, quite simply, this Chromebook cannot be beat. The screen is absolutely beautiful, the keyboard, while not QUITE as good as a Pixelbook, is still among the best I have ever typed on. I have read reports of excessive heat and poor battery life with this device, but I have noticed nothing out of the ordinary with how warm this device gets. As for battery life, with screen brightness set around 50-60%, I can easily go 4 and a half hours (the longest I ever typically use this device on battery), with another hour to hour and a half estimated life left. I mainly use this laptop while it is plugged in, but when I do use it on battery, the life I am getting out of it is fine for me and what I use it for.
If you are looking for a top-of-the-line Chrome OS device, this is definitely what you should be looking at!

I've been looking forward to buying this chromebook for the past four months. Everything about it seemed appealing, especially the display. Unfortunately, I'm going to be taking it back and keeping the Dell Inspiron 7391 due to a few major factors. The first is the screen. I have a Samsung S5e and my phone is an A50 so I'm a big fan of the Amoled screen but for some reason, this big laptop version is hurting my eyes. I can't even use it for more than an hour before getting a headache. My vision is really sensitive so I doubt the masses will have this reaction. The second is the keyboard. It's so flat and uncomfortable. Again, more of a personal thing probably. And lastly, the battery life is really bad. I had about five windows open and brightness at 50% and left it alone and it didn't even last four hours. I know there is a big hit for the 4k screen but the dell, also a 4k screen, gives me about six or seven (and those extra few hours really matter when charging is not readily available).
The laptop is beautiful, seems pretty well built, the stylus interface is one of the best I've ever tried, and it is very, very light. But for me, the cons outweigh the pros.

I was waiting for this device to launch. I used to use a Pixelbook as a daily driver, and this was toted as basically the Pixelbook 2. But that battery life is just too poor!
The 4K AMOLED screen steals the show here, and is easily the best screen I have ever used on any device, save my Note10 and Note20. Sometimes I would go to this device instead of my usual laptop just to use that screen! I could stare at it all day.
But, I could only stare at it all day if I were close to an outlet, as the BEST I was able to get was right around 4 hours of battery life, with the brightness turned down so far it was actually difficult to see some items on the screen.
The keyboard is average, and no where near how good the Pixelbook keyboard was. You get a stylus right in there which I enjoy, but it is difficult to fine Chromebook or Android apps that have a really good writing experience (want good pen support? Surface Pro or iPad Pro are over there).
It also runs into thermal issues, where it will get quite hot on the bottom, to where it would cause me to make me hot and sweat.
And, it's a bit expensive for a Chromebook. But even with the price and average keyboard and heat issues, this would be a five star device if the battery life was 7+ hours. But at 4, with a device built to be portable, it just misses.

Intuitive, effortless startup; styling (which is why you'd buy this thing) is very sleek. Visuals on the screen are rich, lustrous. I'm not seeing any battery issues, but I'm mostly using this to consume media, manage online assets, and web browse. Love it, and don't need some "20-hours-with-no-power" life. Slim, slick, sold... if you want to get the job done and indulge a little on the aesthetics, I don't see how you can go wrong. You know what you're getting into.

I love this laptop! I would have given it 5-stars if the battery life had been better. It's not a game changer for my use because I use it mostly at home. On the occasional times I need to use it cord free, battery life last several hours and I can plug it back in when I get in my truck. On the plus side, it is exceptionally fast and handles any task I throw at it. And the display is amazing!

Yes, the battery life is not great, but it is better than I had thought it would be. Samsung or Google must have run an update because I'm getting about six hours at 60% brightness. Not great, but functional. And everything else? Magnificent. The display is the best I've ever worked with on any laptop or monitor. Beatifully saturated and accurate. I read a review that said it is 224% of sRGB range, and 100% of Adobe RGB. Build quality is impeccable, it's lightweight, easy to carry around, the keyboard is amazingly good for short travel keyboard. I had a Lenovo Yoga Book C930 that I loved except for the e-Ink keyboard, and this has replaced it. So much better with a real keyboard. So solid it's like a single piece of chamfered aluminum. Thank you Samsung.
I'm giving it marks for value because I picked up an open box unit for $499. At that price this is a great value, not to be repeated soon I'm sure.

Even in spite of the battery life only giving me 4 hours of real-life use, the device is SO thoroughly pleasant to use, I can't help but give it a full five stars. It is fast, bright, beautiful, extremely light and thin, and I much prefer how Samsung does pens (where the S pen is built INTO the device rather than magnetically attached where it can easily get knocked off). On this one device I did a 10 hour work day, played an hour of video games on Stadia, listened to music, watched TV, ordered food, and read the news, all on the same device. I do NOT agree with people who say ChromeOS isn't sufficient. Since it now allows android apps and linux apps, this is a marvelous device for almost all tasks.

I have the Samsung Chromebook Pro with 2k screen and 6th gen core m3; this smokes it as far as performance goes but I actually think the CB Pro screen looks just as good as the 4k screen here, in fact on my unit the Galaxy had a noticeable grid (maybe the digitizer layer?) on the screen if I looked close enough that was not there on the SSCB Pro. Both units use the same S-pen and the Galaxy is amazingly a bit lighter and thinner. Other than the much improved keyboard and addition of the fingerprint reader there weren't many other improvements rather a bunch of downgrades, the screen is an upgrade to OLED and 4k but a downgrade to 16:9 from 3:2, the added heat and short battery life (3-6h depending on screen brightness) are the most annoying things about this chromebook- they should have gone 2k 3:2 and an Y series processor or a fan like the Acer 713 which is probably a better product overall. I wanted to love this one but the screen aspect ratio and battery life are deal breakers in upgrading from a Pixelbook/HP X2/SS CB Pro/Plus. The heat is noticeable and probably bad long term but it isn't too hot to sit on your lap for example but you can feel it runs hot not just warm.

This unit is functionaly more then I will ever need, but the beauty of it
is what made me buy it. It is unique in that it is all red with an unfinished edge. I have always wanted a top tier laptop and this one fits the bill. I read about the low battery life on the release day so I waited a few days until information was sorted out. The screen is so bright that you can lower it to about half and this is where it falls into the normal brightness level of high end chromebooks. In turn this extends the battery life.
I don't use it for work I am retired so I can work around the battery issue anyhow. The build quality is excellent. It is powerful and fast. The track pad is one of the best I have used. Still getting used to using this unit but loving it so far.

Everyone likes to discredit Chromebooks but this one is special. This is legit the best screen ever. On Any Chromebook. Even the Pixelbook. Super Snappy. Lots of storage space. Android Apps. Only ding in the armor is it doesn't have very long battery life. That's what most Chromebooks are known for. If you can get by that you will love it

The thin design coupled with a very high quality display, sufficiently powerful processor, and comparatively large SSD storage makes this my favorite chrome book I've used. However, I returned mine due to, understandably, low battery runtime, with typical range of 2 to 5 hours--observed from my week of use.
