Really thought it was what I wanted and it was for the first month or two. Now that I have had it for 3 1/2 months, I get constant errors and reboots. "Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart." I've never had a new computer that has given me so many problems. I hope the rest of you have better luck. I've added a picture and I could have inserted many more of the same.

QLED Flexibility and value

We decided to get a laptop for my wife in an effort to graduate out of a family Chromebook and on to something with more capability and power, understanding that it may get shared around with the kids for odds and ends. With that in mind, the price point we landed on afforded quite a few choices, and things to think about- comparable options to a laptop considered were a Google Pixel, a Microsoft Surface Pro or IPad Pro, all legitimate box-tickers for what the intended use would be. We own a few tablets in the house and have a good feel for what they offer, but ultimately we felt that the Galaxy Book Flex Alpha was the best of all worlds. The general 2-in-1 design offered the lightweight tablet-like feel while providing the specs and horsepower to take that to the next level.
The Galaxy Book Alpha hit the sweet spot for what we were looking for perfectly. When we targeted the laptop, we knew what it was going to be, and knew what it wasn’t. I could have hit a lower price target for value, but would have paid pretty dearly in performance and build quality. For a few hundred bucks more I could have gotten a build spec more tailored to high-end video/audio processing, or a dedicated gaming rig- but we weren’t looking for that type of performance. The Alpha offers a premium-feeling build quality and a spec package that is generally more than enough for anything we want to throw at it.
From a form perspective, the laptop has a real clean and polished look with a brushed aluminum body, curved corners and beveled edges all around. Compact and sturdy with a pair of pretty strong hinges for 360 degree action, it converts from laptop to tent to straight up tablet mode with enough tension to feel easy but secure. The screen itself has an almost non-existent bezel, and the touchscreen aspect is flawless. Full responsiveness all around to my touch, I can’t comment on how a stylus performs as I don’t have one, and it didn’t come with one included. The keyboard is a short-stroke shallow keycap setup- which I love. I know opinions vary about this, as the trend forever has been mechanical keys with tactile clicky response, but something about the almost-silent and sleek efficiency this design offers is right up my alley, and completely in line with the style and feel of the whole laptop. While the wrist-rest area with the touchpad is minimal in size based on the compact form factor, the short deck really didn’t hamper my typing experience. If you have enormous hands it may bother you, but then again you should be looking at the larger screen model if you need that for your mitts. The touchpad was extremely responsive and intuitive, which was to be expected. The whole compact package comes in at a little over 2.5 pounds and a half inch thick- it brings easy portability and durability along with the premium look and feel. As it relates to the array of ports around the perimeter, you get a single USB-C (data only- real disappointment here- I should never have to buy a laptop in this day and age using the old barrel DC adapter…), a pair of USB 3.0 Type A ports, an HDMI port if you want to expand your screen to a monitor or TV, a combo headphone/microphone jack, a micro-SD port, and the dreaded DC adaptor port. Having thunderbolt jacks here would have been ideal, but something had to give for the cost I suppose (I would have traded off the biometric fingerprint reader, while a nice to have, it would have lost a race against thunderbolt ports by more than a few lengths…).
The QLED display is something else. I’m used to LED, or even the upscale OLED 4K displays you can find at much higher price points, but this seems to be a really outstanding middle-ground from a value perspective. The screen resolution hangs in at full HD 1920x1080, but the Samsung OLED technology renders a really vivid and crisp display with rich & deep colors. Outside of getting a much nicer windows experience in general, it’s a pretty amazing medium for a media device, or for lightweight photo editing or digital art if you enjoy that. From all accounts and reviews on this family of Samsung devices, the display is the real savior of the build. Accompanying the visual experience is a (surprisingly) nice audio experience. I say that coming from a place where I don’t have high expectations for sound on laptops. They’re laptops, not stereos. The Galaxy Book has stereo speakers located on each side of the unit, which provides a pretty rich and crisp sound with body that doesn’t get dampened regardless of what configuration you have it in. From movies to music, I was immersed in the program- not wondering why it sounded weak or muffled. My mother in law has a 2-in-1 with bottom-firing speakers that sounds like you are trying to strangle it with pillows if you have it flipped the wrong way. This is loads better.
As far as whats under the hood, it has a 10th Generation Intel I7 with 12G of RAM and a 512G SSD hard drive. As I said before, I knew what it had and what I needed it for. My wife is a (very) amateur photographer that will sometimes use proprietary photo software or occasionally Photoshop for editing or playing around with saturation and lighting- I loaded my CS6 software on and for those chores, it managed everything effortlessly. It likely won’t render videos with the same efficiency or speed, but I knew that going into it. My son loves to game, and for giggles we loaded Fortnite on- this machine will not provide a great experience with triple-A titles. It chugged along at 20 FPS and started heating up like crazy. Worth the shot. We have a lot of smaller budget games, emulators and titles off the Microsoft or Google Play Store that are much less intensive that worked very well on this laptop with nary a hiccup. He wasn’t my target audience when we bought it, but its good to know he can do a little gaming on it. My daughter loves digital art. Nothing super fancy, but she does a ton of sketching on software like Autodesk Sketch, and uses a Wacom tablet and stylus to fill her hours and Instagram pages- those devices and software worked extremely well, the Flex Alpha won’t break a sweat with those types of programs. Lastly (and one of the parts I love the most), this newer generation of laptop comes with the new AX Wifi protocol. I just updated the house wireless router to an Wifi-AX model, and this thing absolutely screams along at blazing speeds compared to some of my older wifi-AC protocol devices. Finally glad to be getting mileage out of that, it wasn’t cheap either.
To close, I’m happy with what I found that I feel exceeded what my wife wanted: a 2-in-1 solution to bridge the tablet-to-laptop experience for whatever mood struck her. The visual experience is premium to me here, and I acknowledge that I could trade some of the dollars spent in the 2-in-1 architecture to get a clamshell laptop that is slightly better in some regards, but if you want that flexibility to be what the moment desires – being lazy watching a movie on your lap, or editing down those perfect photos at a desktop, or sketching puppies (my daughter, not me)…this really checks a lot of boxes. I normally don’t write books for reviews, but the Flex Book Alpha merits fleshing out a lot of great features with few real flaws (looking at you, barrel DC adapter..). You really get a lot of punch for the dollar here that lends itself to a pretty wide array of usages and an amazing overall experience. A very happy customer for sure.

Bought this computer and after a couple of months noticed that paint rubbing off the bottom shell, after checking found out that the case material on the bottom is so thin that it flexes and rubs on the desk. Contacted Samsung Customer Service and they call it "Cosmetic failure" Even when I sent them a video showing that a sheet of paper would not slide under the machine.
Look at the photos and you be the judge. I am out of $1K.
Done with Samsung's poor quality and worse customer service.

This laptop has some pretty good horsepower into it. It has a 10th generation intel i7 processor with intel UHD graphics. However, the display is only full HD. It supports wireless display using the Microsoft wireless display. The laptop is light, at first, I thought that the box was empty, but the laptop was there. Too bad it came with a small power brick like old computers to charge the battery I was hopping a USB C type charger. The computer comes with (1) HDMI port, (1) USB C, (1) headphone jack, (2) USB A ports and one slot for a micro SD card. This model does not come with a SPen, however it has support for a stylus since the screen have windows Ink support. It would be nice if Samsung specify what model of SPen is recommended by them. For testing purposes, I tried my old surface pro 3 pen, and it worked like the surface pro 3 but also experience the same behavior of jagged lines when you try to draw slowly a diagonal line. I do not know if this a screen fault or a pen fault that is why I was hoping that Samsung recommends a pen for this device, if there is a pen specially design for this display it may not experience this kind of behavior. As mentioned before this laptop is pretty fast, I believe you shall be able to play 3D games with this, I am not a gamer anymore but at least two year old games shall play pretty well with this laptop. The screen is a QLED screen with vibrant colors. I do not think you are going to have problems if you are a person that works outside since with this display you can increase the brightness very high and is very bright if you do so. Regarding battery life this is hard to calculate, what I could say is that it has a good battery life if the task you are doing does not consume too much processing power. If you are playing games, watch videos etc. or doing computing intensive task you are going to cut the battery life by a lot.
This laptop was aimed to content creators like videographers, artist, and photographers. I am a hobbyist photographer that my main type of photography is landscape photography. It took me a long time to color calibrate the QLED screen to match may the colors of my color calibrated 4K LG monitors. At the end I was able to get it close but not the same for some reason. Base on the color calibrator results the Qled screen can cover 99.99% of sRGB color gamut and 88.8 % of Adobe RGB color gamut which is pretty good for the price of this laptop. With this laptop I think is safe to say that can be used for basic photo editing for example removing stuff in photoshop etc. However, to experience the detail in all his glory I believe that a 4K display was a most if this was aimed to content creators. Most of you would say, “well few years ago people used to edit their pictures using only full HD etc.” but the problem is that once you experience the detail you can get from 4k displays is very hard to go back to full HD at least in my opinion. The screen size 13” is ok for FHD, however for 4K I believe it would be a little small, that could be a reason why Samsung decide to go FHD on this one. Regards processing power to edit raw pictures using Capture One is ok I have no issues; it behaves like my desktop PC. Regarding video content I cannot give an opinion on that since I do not work with video editing.
My conclusion, if you ask me from a photographer point of view that 100% of his work is based on photography, I would try to find something else, not a more powerful computer but a bigger display with 4K capabilities, you need all the detail you can get from your images in order to have a more accurate representation of how your picture will look when you print the photo. If you are a person that takes a few pictures and just perform a few touches and share it in Instagram or send to family and friends I believe this laptop may work for you.
If you are a person that is going to use this laptop to do office stuff, need windows, and requires a very light laptop with good battery life and nice processing power, I recommend this laptop 100%.
I give it 4 stars for the lack of 4k display, and because it didn’t come with a Spen. Other than that is a pretty capable laptop.

Excellent Speed, Screen, and Battery

I have owned the Galaxy Book Flex Alpha for approximately 2 weeks. I use it primarily for web browsing, word processing, and remote VPN for work.
Speed: This laptop starts up and shuts down in 5 seconds flat. It can manage multiple browsers and switch between my remote desktop VPN and desktop without any lag. The wireless adapter gets great signal quickly (although I did have a minor adjustment that I had to make i settings to work w/my Google Wifi).
Screen and Battery: I'm mentioning these two together because I am so impressed with how long the battery lasts while maintaining a vivid, bright screen. I keep this laptop in battery saver almost all the time and it meets my performance and screen brightness needs w/o issue. I agree w/ Samsung's slogan that this is a long-lasting, multi-day work battery. I'm managing it pretty responsibly (almost always in battery saver or mid-mode because the screen is so sharp and bright even in those modes) and I can go 2-3 days without charging. I would say with web surfing, VPN, and word processing, you can achieve the claimed 17-18 hours in battery saver mode/mid-mode. For the battery and screen alone, I think this laptop is a no-brainer for $899-$999.
Other Considerations: The keyboard has great feedback (clicks shallow but with a great dampened click); for the way I type, the fingerprint scanner (which is instantaneous, BTW) does not get in the way. The touchpad is great - works really well with Windows 10 gestures (two finger scrolling is a game changer).
Minor negatives: The hinge is great (love tent mode on couch in tablet mode), but the screen is thin and it is not a heavy screen. I haven't used an S-Pen/stylus with this laptop, but I don't think it would affect tablet style drawing. I could see it being more of an issue with people trying to draw/write w/ a stylus in laptop mode. Speakers have no bass and are really unimpressive in laptop mode (b/c speakers are on bottom); but, actually sound decent in tent mode.
The USB-C Charging: I purchased a Samsung 45 USB-C Charger and could not get this laptop to charge, so I had to take it back. I would be more bothered by this if this laptop didn't charge from 7% to 100% in 90 minutes. To me, that's fast charging. Although, I hope to figure this out so I can use a powerbank in the future.
Overall, this laptop is amazing. Great port options (HDMI and traditional USB are still relevant and regular for my usage). The battery and screen sealed the deal. Aluminum finish and diamond cut edging is beautiful. I would recommend for anyone who values battery life, screen quality, portability, and performance.

This is such a compact and light little machine, I badly want to like it, I need it, but...
• the camera is so bad, even under the best circumstances (blurry, grainy and everything looks dark blue). Brightness is the only setting I could find & it doesn’t stick.
• the pressure points at the rivets (or whatever holds the screen in place across the top) are visible on the screen from an angle when the lid is opened,
• it didn’t offer much info I expected at least to be told it needed updates; I did these manually.
• it doesn’t get along with my WD external drive, I have to shut it down to eject.
• the sound is surprisingly poor compared to my HP Envy
• the up/down arrows don’t always work in menus.
• it came with no protection on the screen.
Some pros:
• the Flex Alpha has a better fingerprint reader
• all insertion points are tighter & more secure than any laptop I’ve owned. (Everything has to be taped into my Envy)
• the thin bezel & sharp, crisp corners add to its sleek look
• amazing battery life
• the display makes everything easier to read than on my Envy
• chat support is easier to access, easier to talk to a person
• because of all the cons, I don’t worry about ruining it like with my Envy
So, it’s close, not sure yet if I’ll keep it yet or not,

Everything You'd Need just one minor flaw

There's two laptops from Samsung, the Flex and the Flex Alpha. The blue laptop includes a pen and wireless charging. Decide if you really need it. If not, for $400 less, you get a faster laptop, 12gb and 512SSD. This laptop has everything you need. The clean metal keys work well, no Macbook "sometimes I do" keys.
So what's the minor flaw? No charge light. When I plug in the power cord and charge the laptop I would like to see a light confirming that the charge is taking when the lid is closed.
Everything else aside from the heat (usually during games or videos), this is a great laptop. The instant on, even from a dead boot, less than 15 seconds. Once you're on and you shut the lid, 2 seconds later you're on with minimal battery loss. This is stars above any macbook.
It also saves the hell out of battery life, the lighted keys do not light unless you're actively clicking. Fav feature is the Fn Lock button which makes managing keys much easier. The setup is flawless, with the assistance of Alexa, or just following the prompts.
Speakers are eh.., bluetooth speakers your best bet, or headphones. OLED display is very impressive. As I'm typing this, the price is back up to $999 again, but you may see some discounts soon, they (Samsung) are offering Veteran's discount, using an ID.Me account, Best Buys will not match it however.
Summary, if you're looking for a macbook killer this is it. If you're looking for a Surface Pro challenger, this is it as well. For the specs you get, 512gb SSD, 12Gb memory, Pen capable (with Surface Pen, not s-pen), for only $999 ($899 most likely during the holidays). High Quality, rock solid. Unheard of.

I bought this Ultrabook on sale for $250 off and at this price it's a steal. The I7 runs everything quickly and the 512gb SSD makes restarts and boots quick. Lots of reviews mention the fans turning on all the time. I noticed this as well but after I made sure all the software was up to date I no longer noticed the fans turning on frequently. The Qled panel looks great at FHD resolution and it will be hard to find better at this price point. The backlit keyboard works well and brightness can be changed. The only drawback is no support for USB C charging. As for battery life, I am getting between 8-10 hours running it at max performance which is good enough for my use. The brushed aluminum finish is great and the laptop feels solid and well built. If you can get this laptop on any sort of discount it will serve you well! Great job Samsung!

I wish there was a way to rate half stars, because I would give this computer a 4.5 out of 5 stars. I am an avid Samsung user, owning everything from the watch, phone, and earbuds. While I am very impressed with many aspects of this computer, it is definitely has some faults, no matter how amazing Samsung products are!
Battery : While the Samsung website says you should get about 18.5 hours, I've been lucky if I get about 10 hours on the battery life with light use, browsing the internet, writing papers and homework and on battery saving mode. This is still amazing battery life, compared to my last computer, where I was lucky to get 4-5 hours out of the battery. I just wish if they say that it will last that long, it will actually do so. I am definitely not complaining, but it is still something worth noting.
Resolution : the QLED screen definitely lives up to the hype, watching anything on this computer is crisp, clear, and full of color. The outside mode is amazing, super helpful since many of the classrooms on campus have windows and creates a glare, but beware, being in outside mode for more than an hour your computer will get really hot and drain the battery significantly, which is to be expected. It also charges up to 100% relatively fast, which is really nice, especially if you are in a hurry and need a quick charge between projects or something.
Noise: For the most part, it is amazingly quiet, except for the random spurts of loud fan noise, which could be because of the multiple tabs I'll have open at a time, and during Zoom meetings, which make sense. Typing on this computer as well is super nice, the keys are nice and springy and really quiet. Typing in class now isn't embarrassingly loud now! The fingerprint sensor is also in a weird place, making the right shift key really tiny, but after like a day of typing on it, I hardly notice the shift key being smaller.
Size : At first I was really wary of the size, thinking that having a 13.3" screen would be more different than I'm used to, since my other computer was a 14", but I don't even know why I was worried. I don't even notice a difference! This size is perfect, easy to fit into a backpack and fit on desks and still have room for a notebook.
Additional Points : The startup time is unreal, it is like 4 seconds thanks to the i7 core!
I casually game on the side, such as The Sims and Minecraft, and I don't really notice lag at all, only if there is a lot going on in a save file, or whatever the case might be. The battery will also drain significantly while playing games, but again, not anything I'm not expecting.
I got the Bamboo pen 2nd Gen along with my computer, and I've noticed that sometimes the pen won't register on the screen, and that might just be the pen's fault, and not necessarily the computer's.
Overall, this is a great laptop for college and I haven't had any glaring issues with it in the couple of weeks I've owned it. It's a reasonable price, albeit out of some people's price range, but I 100% think it's worth the extra money. I honestly think that I won't have to buy another computer for YEARS, as long as you maintain it well. Great job Samsung!

For starters I got this as a good deal so it’s a couple hundred bucks off but it’s probably now selling for the price I bought it for. This was such a great investment. The color on the screen is amazing, the sound is adequately loud, the microphone works well, the WebCam is good enough for work related zoom calls and interviews. Never had any issues with the Bluetooth not working properly. The laptop is really light so the only danger is that you might potentially bend the metal because it’s fairly soft but I’ve never worried about the hinges because it works really smoothly and easily to open and close without feeling like you’re having to manhandle the whole laptop. It’s really a great computer for the money and it comes with a pretty advanced parts like the memory and the speed and all that. I forget the exact specs but they sufficient enough to even play video games online, let alone run all your pictures and video and work related applications on this device. I’ve been able to watch movies on it and enjoyed the color and adjustability of the brightness watching movies in bed. There’s even a setting where you can dim the blue light. It holds a charge fairly adequately for what I would expect from daily use. It’s been a great machine and I have no complaints. Actually I think this might be the best laptop I’ve ever purchased.

I am in IT for the past 25 years and I have sold and worked on a slew of laptops and tablets so I can say this this Samsung Galaxy Book Flex Alpha is a pretty amazing laptop. I recently dropped my Microsoft Surface Pro 4 which is also a great tablet and I needed to replace it faster than I could repair it so I made a short list of laptops and read a bunch of reviews. This laptop wasn't on that list because I was looking for at least 16GB of RAM and this fell short. I went to my local store to look at the three I had it narrowed down to when I came across this gem. The screen is what caught my eye because it was sitting next to a Macbook and the display quality was outstanding. I put this laptop up against the other ones I was considering and I couldn't get past how clear the picture quality was. I don't game on my laptops and they are used exclusively for business so my main concern was speed and battery life. This laptop comes with an i7 so it is more than adequate in processing power and the 12GB of RAM is comes with is actually a pretty sweet spot. What I really love besides the sick display is the battery life. My Surface Pro was always dead when I would go to use it after a few days of it being in my bag. I pull this silver beast out and its sitting at better than 60% after a week of not being used (powered on with lid closed). If you are looking for a great laptop that is light and fast for work this is a great choice. There are only three negatives that I found so here they are. The first being that the charger port is remarkably similar to the 3.5mm headphone jack in size and they are close to each other. Doesn't unlock with my face like the Surface did but it does have the fingerprint reader which I feel is a more secure option and with the facemask wearing is more practical. The internal speakers are not great (but not terrible either) because it is so small and light. I wear headphones if I want louder high quality sound. I ended up buying this for 1k and then it went on sale a few days later for 899.00 and Best buy was cool enough to refund the difference which really made this a steal.

Decent 2 in 1 laptop for the price Had to acclimate to Samsung having a separate control settings API on the laptop. It is not heavy but it does attract fingerprints. The screen is very bright and easy to read. I upgraded the machine from Windows 10 Home to Windows 10 Pro, The performance is good considering this has a i7 processor The keyboard is responsive but it feels more like a chiclet keyboard, Had to adjust a little bit. The fingerprint reader can sometimes be hit or miss. If your finger is very dry or wet, the fingerprint reader has a more difficult time recognizing it, The one issue that concerned me is that the SSD will get hot when you are running Windows updates or running a full Malwarebytes rootkit scan, Using CrystalMark, I saw the temps go from 34C to 67C when I ran the full Malwarebytes rootkit scan and from 34C to 57C when running Windows updates. According to Samsung, it is normal for a PCIE M.2 SSD. I have the laptop on a laptop cooler and the vents are not blocked, Interestingly, I played some Steam games and the SSD temp doesn't rise very far but you will notice the fan. The good news is that the SSD temp does stay down during idle and other than the Windows Update or Malwarebytes full rootkit scan, it doesn't get too warm, Overall, considering I got this for $250 off the regular price, I can't complain. Just wish that Samsung included an S-pen with this or at least something to attach a stylus pen to. I used a stylus pen holder originally for a Surface Pro and it works well. I used a Wacom pen I had and it works great. One last thing, I had a horrendous time trying to register this on Samsung's website. They kept claiming the serial number was invalid until I sent photos of the bottom of the laptop, the box, and a screenshot of the WMIC BIOS GET SERIALNUMBER result. Even the CS rep thought the laptop wasn't even made by Samsung till I sent the link on Bestbuy and the link on their own website. Incredible, it took 2 days to get it registered, an hour in chat and 30 mins on the phone just to register.

Got this laptop to replace an old Surface. The tablet mode is nice, but the build quality of the whole laptop is just great. The design of the laptop is simple and elegant, and the screen is the highlight for sure because it is bright and colorful. The laptop has great specs which makes it feel fast in everyday use. The top end alpha is only $1000 which I think is a great deal for the specs and build quality.
