Great companion for Galaxy smartphone users

I am currently using this watch with my Galaxy Note II, which has been recently updated to be compatible with this device. So far after a month I have been very impressed. The battery life is pretty good, considering it is a color display, and can get about 2 days out of it before needing a charge. I am able to get my text messages on the phone and read the full message, as well as full emails from my gmail account. The camera on the watch is also a nice feature so if you want to quickly snap a picture you can just swipe open the camera and shoot right away instead of fishing in your pocket for your phone. Plus it automatically sends any pics you snap direct to the phone so you can edit and share it with anyone. I was looking at the Pebble watch as well, and even though the battery last longer I found the the e-ink style screen to be a step back compared to the display on this watch, and also the longer battery was not a big enough selling point as I normally charge my devices every night so a difference of 2 days versus 7 days was a non factor. For the price, some people find $300 to be too much for this watch, but honestly I have normally spent more than that on watches over the years that did nothing but tell time and this does that and more.

Well, I am a little upset about the price, but you do get what you pay for - another quality Samsung device. I am very happy with the unit as a whole because this is what I've always wanted - a watch to deliver notifications and speakerphone. I just hope that more app developers make apps for this device to integrate with watch. I will say, don't get this wet - remember to take it off before washing your hands and get a screen protector.

    Samsung Gear Rocks!

The Gear is an attractive device. I get many compliments on it. Two people at work have purchased one as a result of experiencing mine. The sync with my Galaxy Note II (had to do a software upgrade) is rock-solid. It very much a nice asset to quickly peek at incoming calls or texts when on the phone or even talking to someone. Quickly peeking at the watch is more polite than getting out the phone when talking with someone! The performance is outstanding. As mentioned, the battery lasts me three days which is certainly OK, but would prefer a weeks worth. I have the Gear on for an average of 12 hours a day. It is a bit expensive, but it is the first one (Samsung). The models that follow will probably be less expensive and employ more technology. The Gear meets moderate dust and water resistance, so I don't worry about rain, but would not recommend wearing in the pool of course! I highly recommend the product.

Galaxy Gear - a fun but expensive toy.

I received the Galaxy Gear as a Christmas present and am very happy with it. I can quickly see what emails, phone calls, text, calendar events right on my watch. Can even send and receive calls and text. The only negative comment I might make (if I had to pay for it myself) is that it is pricey at 299.00, but I imagine that the price will start dropping to a more reasonable price in the coming months. Overall very satisfied.

So this is not at all a bad product. I just find very little use for it. When buying something like this, you generally expect it to solve some issue(s). This watch simply adds to current issues with cell phones use. Particularly while driving, you have to talk into the microphone which is on the upper part of the watch near the face and listen to the speaker which is on the band of the watch on the bottom of the wrist. This causes you to constantly supinate your wrist and arm to talk and listen. This goes for phone calls and the use of S Voice. This is a big headache. Same thing if you work out in the gym or run outside for exercise , the location of the microphone and speaker gives this watch little if any use during these activities. Though the pedometer app could be of some use in this vein, Its something that is already on the Galaxy S4 and does the same thing. Furthermore, gadgets like the FitBit and Jawbone UP are cheaper and are just as good or better for this sort of use. Apps like messaging & email seem to only work with the stock apps, so if you use third party messaging apps like GoSMS or Outlook, then you wont get message notifications on the watch. You could get a high quality Blutooth device for half the price of this watch that does 90% of what this watch can do, with more ease of use. Was thinking of taking mine back for a refund, but I waited too long and missed the return deadline. Coming from a person who is high into electronics I'd say that overall, this is not a bad product in terms of quality, but it is overpriced and not very useful in my opinion. I do realize that this watch is still in its infancy stage and will likely & hopefully get better over time. As of now, It is simply a cool gadget to have to brag about to your friends. Hopefully Google Glass will redeem the short comings of this watch when it is released.

Take this from someone who's really an Apple product fan. The Galaxy gear is great; its what the future was supposed to be about; futuristic, convenience and easy. Now; the negative reviews and comments are about the price; and Samsung select exclusively. Well; its too bad that stigma seems to echo mainly with the Android consumers as most Android handsets are offered at a substantial reduced cost. And on the Google play store most apps are offered for free. And please try not to get mad at me for telling the truth; most people don't want to pay for anything when compared to their phones if they could get it for free. I have what i consider a working person's watch collection starting upwards of $600. That just tells time. So to have one that does that and more of decent quality is not so expensive.

synced with my phone in a snap, read texts, caller I.D. without taking out my phone. my favorite function is the remote media controller. only real complaint is battery life. if i turn off the auto on function it can last over 2 days. with the auto on function turned on, i'm lucky to get a full days use on a charge. over all i think it's a good device, just not worth the $300 price tag.

I purchased the galaxy gear becuase I really like all of Samsung' s products and thought this would be a nice addition. I really enjoy how simple it is now to check incoming messages and emails without having to take my note 3 out or have it on me in most cases as long as im within about 30 feet of it. It does everything they advertise it to do although it is on the pricier side in comparison to the pebble which does the same things for half the price. Overall its a great 1st edition watch and im looking forward to the 2nd gen smartwatch.

This is a great companion to your smartphone. Most people's reaction is that "it costs too much", but this is a good price for a nice watch that only tells time. So for those who like watches, this is actually a great deal. If/when the price goes down I'll get a couple more colors. The only bad thing is that I really don't wear my other watches now.

Note: Go in store to buy this if you do, See if they have an "open boxed" one, price for these are $250. So I just gave a presentation to fellow nerds at work about this, so I think Ive had a lot of exposure to it, looking at all the pros/cons/use cases in the last month. Pros: when you step away furthur than bluetooth range, the watch will buzz. This is GREAT if you leave your phone at a bar or home when leaving for work. I think this is the major usecase of this watch. Also, if you lose your phone, you can alert it from the watch to find it (and vice versa). comfortable - I think its more comfy than my metal band watch tbh. Best buy return policy lets you try it out, and return if you don't like it. Bezel and clasp made of steel, so very durable. Clasp wont scratch if you have a desk job. Also Gorilla Glass, so hard to scratch. This aint no ipod! Android development - make your own apps! (only sensor is accelerometer) Battery life last 7% over a sleeping night, and about 13% during the day if you barely use it. Other than that, expect about 2-3 days from it. Cons: price, not water-proof (but is "resistant to splashes"), Nothing "fun". Its a new toy, lets face it, but once you put it on you have nothing to play with other than checking the time. Yeah, reading a text is useful on it, but then what? you need to still pull your phone out to reply. The s-voice voice-to-text logic is HORRIBLE. I have tried very simple sentences without mumbling and it didnt pick up a single word correctly... however I just tried some samples to demo what I meant, and it worked fine so... maybe an update fixed this? I'll leave this comment on hold. Anything done on the watch, the phone can do better. You arent going to use the camera ever, your phone is 100x better. Calls are useful now and then, but its speaker phone so the chances your alone are limited. gmail currently says "view on phone" along with a few other apps. Snapchat doesnt allow you to add txt. facebook only shows you notifications. Makes checking time harder - the screen locks after X minutes... so to unlock it either press the button or move your arm. What if your sitting at a desk and you want to just look down? well now you have to wiggle your arm up and down, or use a second hand. Not a huge deal, but "harder" than a normal watch for sure. Distracting in dark places. I hard to turn mine off in a movie theater because it kept shining bright when I would move. Use cases: hands full (groceries, tools in hand, gloves on) you can use with your nose. I found this particularly useful when snowboarding. with bluetooth headphones (if they dont have media controls) "set timer 20 minutes" when cooking phone out of reach because you are charging, but still want to receive txts/calls from the living room or otherside of the bar. End result - I think this watch is cool, I want to like it but what it comes down to is it cost twice as much as my galaxy S4 and doesnt do anything. Once the price comes down, I will recommend this product to others, but right now it just isnt worth the money. I'm returning mine tomorrow and waiting for the Gear 2 or Sony Smartwatch 2.

Great Smartwatch at a Steep Cost

I've been in the market for a Smartwatch for quite some time now. This past week, I decided to purchase both the Pebble and Sony Smartwatch 2 to see which would reign supreme as my side kick to my Samsung Galaxy Note 3. While both of these devices do what they say they do, I was left with an unsatisfied feeling. The Pebble is a very basic smartwatch that, let's face it, is King due to its wide compatibility with iOS and Android devices and its simplicity and price point ($159). The Sony Smartwatch 2 ($199) kicks things up a notch with a color display and enhanced notification management and huge app support, however, the display looks like it came off a cell phone when colored displays were first introduced. I finally convinced myself to try Samsung's $300 Galaxy Gear. After spending several days with this device, I can honestly say that THIS IS A SMARTWATCH! While developer support is still limited and compatibility is restricted to select Galaxy devices, its functionality, hardware, and just overall design\build goes unmatched! A smartwatch IS NOT for everyone. It is simply an accessory or extension of your device. This is probably the most important question you need to answer to determine whether you should get one or not...Do you want/need an accessory that handles notifications discretely so that you never miss another message/email or call again? After this, it's all about how much you want to invest and what works best for you. There's absolutely nothing wrong with Pebble or Sony's Smartwatch 2. Having used all three, the Gear just felt like a more polished and promising device for me. As Samsung and developers continue to support this device, I foresee increased capability and possibly even compatibility with other Android devices not manufactured by Samsung. I highly recommend any user with a compatible smartphone give this device a shot. Unfortunately, Best Buy only carries demo models of the Gear and not the others if you were to try and go into the store to do your own comparison. The Gear goes for $299 brand new or use Best Buy's In Store Clearance/ Open Box Feature to located near mint condition Galaxy Gear devices going for $250 at a Best Buy near you!

I've had it for a few days. At first the camera made me nervous but seeing after how good of a quality picture it takes I was convinced to keep it. So far no complaints about it except the price. I have to give Samsung five stars because the rating system only allows five stars. On my personal rating I give it ten stars out of five. Glad my s4 got the 4.3 update so I could buy the gear.

My phone has lasted 3 days consistently . After the update it works much better as for notifications work great. I am not sure why people say 300 is too high. It is a full computer with blue tooth. Color screen and Crystal screen. Had for two months and no scratches. This is a great device. I recommend trying it out your self. Not everyone feels same but I really like it.

I'm a techie person so love new technology. First got Rose Gold but exchanged it for black. Initially has problems, stopped receiving notifications (Note 3). Called Samsung and Verizon, nobody new how to fox issue. Spent total of three hours trying to figure out. End up hard resetting phone and it worked again. Lucky I bought it during holidays because I have until 15th to return. I have used the features like text message but the whole lack of support has thrown me off. Because I like technology I paid the 299 but think it's a bit pricey for what it can do. Would love to be able to change the back ground to a picture instead of solid color. Overall it's a cool toy to have. If I keep will edit to 4 stars.
