Customers are saying

Customers regard the camera as producing good photos and videos, and appreciate the convenience and ease of use the watch offers. They also find the pedometer feature useful and enjoy the stylish design. However, concerns are raised about the short battery life, the relatively high price, and the limited number of apps available. Additionally, some customers have expressed disappointment that the watch is only compatible with Samsung phones and lacks water resistance.

    Perfect for work

Bought this for work so I wouldn't have to keep pulling my phone out of my pocket. It keeps me current on emails and calls. Perfect for an IT person moving around all day. I have actually used the camera more then a few times to get into a tight spot to see a serial number or something small. I wouldn't change anything but the battery life, which isn't actual that back for what your asking the watch to do. Bought this refurbished, one day special for 99.00 less a $20 reward certificate for elite plus members. Can't beat that price.

SAMSUNG GEAR IS NOT ONLY FOR THE NOTE NOW

With the new software in the gear, it allowed it to pair with my Samsung S4 and it performs beautifuly. I mainly purchase this so I don't have to pull out my phone from my pocket all of the time, but the big thing that sold me on this item was the customizational clock face for when I'm in a suite or just jeans and a t-shirt. I listen to music alot on my phone and it gives me the controls without pulling out and unlocking my phone everytime. I'm a techi guy, so this thing was a must have.

I bought this watch with high hopes. I'll admit the concept was nice. And the watch is a nice looking watch. To bad the only notifications you get to read on the watch are text messages...Thats it. Any other notifications you receive you must still pull your phone out. This defeats the purpose of paying $300 for this watch. Yea has a built in camera but i didn't see myself using it much. Not to mention the very limited amounts of available apps in the Samsung Gear app store. Anyways I took it back and I'll wait for a Gear 2 or if something else comes out that does more.

    Great new gadget

I have been waiting a few weeks to buy the Galaxy Gear. I read all the professional reviews and went to Bestbuy to try it on. I was dissuaded by the reviews but I still wanted one and then my wife bought me one for Christmas. That's the best way to get a new toy. The first time I tried it on I was impressed by it's good looks and lightweight. It has a very classy look especially with the analogy clock faces. It's thinner and lighter than the G-Shock that it replaced. With the latest upgrades from Samsung, the biggest complaints from the professionals about poor notifications is no more. They work great. I was looking for a way to answer my phone without taking it out of pants pocket. I didn't want to wear a blue tooth head headpiece and my cars don't have bluetooth either. The Gear is a great solution. The mike and the speaker work great in the car are a good hands free way to use the phone while driving. With the latest updates, the battery life has been greatly improved. I turned off the option to have the screen come on when I lift my arm which means it does not come on until I push the power button. This also greatly improves the batter life. Of course when a call or other notification arrives the screen turns on and you can respond to the Gear directly on the screen. I haven't done a formal test but I am sure the battery life could be a couple of days with this approach and the recharge time is very short. I plan to charge it in the evening and put it back on before bed. The bluetooth range is much farther than the official range of 30 feet. It works anywhere in my house, so I can leave my phone on my desk and work anywhere in the house without being out of touch. I am very impressed with the watch so far. I look forward to many new applications in the future. I think it's time for the fair minded professionals to do a redo on their reviews. I think the watch is much better than their reviews indicate.

Not for everyone, but just right for me!

I recently decided after months of research that I was going to get the black gear watch. I am currently using a Samsung Galaxy S III for my phone. Due to update 4.3 i am able to use the watch with full functionality with my phone. I use it to make phone calls to relatives in the car and walking around places, and it really helps me never skip a beat when receiving texts. Surprising enough, i have managed to squeeze 36 hours of battery life out of my little gadget. It has definitely made MY life easier. For those looking for a new phone for your wrist, this would not be recommended as it is a companion to your phone. It is a bit pricey for the device itself for not having wifi compatibility and other functions like gps, however that's what our My BestBuy points are for, right? :) anyhow, some apps i expected to maybe find on there were not, such as a facebook messenger to keep me plugged in when i don't have time to update my social media, or the ability to share photos directly to media hubs. These actions still require the use of the phone, so like i stated, it is NOT a smartphone on your wrist. Other then that, the camera is good quality, the screen is big enough to see, and tracking how much I walk is a neat bonus. All in all i am very satisfied.

Great Smartwatch for a first gen

This is Samsungs first attempt at a smartwatch and I must say, its not bad for a first gen. I purchased this watch even after all the bad reviews and I can say I made the right choice. Battery life after a few updates gives me 2 days easy. The way it works with my Note 3 is smooth. Keeps me from have to pull my phone out every time it vibrates in my pocket. Its not for everyone, but for those on the fenc,e just buy it and see if it fits in your life. If not just take it back and wait for something else

Everyone I showed it to was surprised at all the different functions it had and how the all worked seamlessly. Last week at a sports bar with friends I was showing everyone my watch and its features the watch started to vibrated and on the screen it showed who was calling but after telling them excuse me I have a call and I swiped the screen and spoke to my watch and everyone heard the other person talk back they all were wowed and I heard a few people in the crowd say that the had to have that.

    THIS WATCH IS AWESOME

THIS WATCH IS FREAKING AWESOME. IT KINDA MAKES ME A LITTLE LAZY AT TIMES. BUT I CAN LIVE WITH THAT. I CAN SEE WHO'S CALLING AND REJECT OR ACCEPT THE CALL. CHECK TEXTS EVEN WHEN IM NOT SUPPOSE TO BE (TOUCHING YOUR WATCH ISN'T CONSIDERED RUDE). CHANGING THE FACE COLOR IS NICE AS WELL. I HAVE NOT REALLY EXPLORED THE APPS TRULY. I LIKE SEEING PEOPLE FACES POP UP WHEN THEY CALL. THE WATCH ANSWERS QUESTIONS YOU HAVE. ITS SO SLEEK AND COMPACT. IM ON MY THIRD DAY WITH THIS CHARGE. BATTERY IS NICE FOR WHAT IT DOES. I WISH THE BANDS WHERE INTERCHANGEABLE. THE PRICE ISN'T BAD CONSIDERING THAT IM A WATCH PERSON AND I OWN SEVERAL WATCHES THAT COST $250 AND ALL THEY DO IS KEEP TIME,DATE, AND STOP WATCH FUNCTIONS. I DON'T NO IF THE WATCH IS WATER PROOF.

Got 1st one on a deal of day open box for 127, just ordered black refurb for 100. I have read a lot of reviews and have yet to see a comment on main reason I purchased initially. I am avid golfer and use gps for yardage on the course with my phone. Was not sure this would be available but with return policy and price I got decided to give it a try. Happy to report samsung has a golf navi app that works great for $9. I will have 2 watches, oatmeal beige and black for a total cost of less than the dedicated golf gps devices that works great and is easy and convienient to use. I must say that after using for a while frankly would be happy with watch even if it did not have the golf gps. Great accessory to phone and just a fun device that makes every day uses of phone more enjoyable.

I received mine a few days ago and I am really enjoying it. Very good for notifications on texts, and emails. The camera is surprisingly good as well. I wish there were more apps and I wish the battery life was better (18-20 hrs). BTW...I bought mine at best buy as it was an open box Xmas return for $149.

let me just say that I am a small business owner that can receive as many as a hundred calls on a busy day. constantly fishing for my phone just to see that it is some one I don't want to talk to at that minute. now you just twist your wrist and take the call or not, simply amazing this item is far from perfect, if you are looking for a lot of whiz bang you will disappointed in a big way. plus I have used the find my phone feature twice in less than a week

    Great watch at $129

If you're a technology junkie then this is the watch for you. I usually do more research before making an electronic gadget decision but for the deal of the day price took a gamble. A few days later Consumer Reports had an article testing smart watches. This was the best rated one. Personally I've managed to use every feature of the watch. One day I walked away from my phone and would have lost it had it not been for my watch reminding me I was out of range. It saves my S4 battery life too as I'm not constantly turning it on to check messages. You won't be using the watch to make important calls but for the usual 2 minute phone call it serves it's purpose. The wristband just barely fit my wrist but then again, i'm a pretty big guy so was glad it did. Overall this is a great watch...even after the "new toy" novelty has faded.

I had this watch for 6 days (Before returning, do to news of the gear 2 neo and gear 2 . Which I will own.)and it was great. As a driver this watch made calls and messages much safer. It also tells time, which is nice lol.For such a stylish and professional watch $300 is not much, when compared to other Luxury watches. All in all you should get one, you know you want to!

I'm a techie person so love new technology. First got Rose Gold but exchanged it for black. Initially has problems, stopped receiving notifications (Note 3). Called Samsung and Verizon, nobody new how to fox issue. Spent total of three hours trying to figure out. End up hard resetting phone and it worked again. Lucky I bought it during holidays because I have until 15th to return. I have used the features like text message but the whole lack of support has thrown me off. Because I like technology I paid the 299 but think it's a bit pricey for what it can do. Would love to be able to change the back ground to a picture instead of solid color. Overall it's a cool toy to have. If I keep will edit to 4 stars.

    Great smart watch for me

The watch is great. I've read a lot of reviews, compared gear to other smart watches and all I can say... I love this watch. The style, clarity and features are a plus for me. This watch fits my style of character.Setup was easy. Gear has an app for watch faces that's terrific. I don't have to text and drive with the gear. I can keep both hands on the steering while using "S" voice to send text messages, and phone calls. So, instead of looking down into my lap when driving I can focus on the road in front of me. I own two smart watches....You get what you pay for. BTW, I charge my cell phone daily so charging the gear daily too is not an issue. Finally, I received EXCELLENT Customer Service from the two Samsung rep's on New Years Day. They were concerned with my concerns...Total Satisfaction..you go :)

Works well with my Note 2

I owned a Pebble for 3+ months and found it to be an excellent value - however between a recent sale on the Gear and a lot of Reward Zone $s I couldn't resist checking out the Gear since my Note 2 had recently become compatible with the 4.3 Jelly Bean upgrade. Also the Gear s/w was recently upgraded to give it Gmail notifications and improved the battery life from various tech sites I had read. As happy as I was with the Pebble I am SUPER impressed with the Gear. Before buying it I thought the camera built into the strap was more gimmick and proof of concept I find it quite useful. It definitely is not going to replace my main DSLR or Note 2 camera but its handy when I'm shopping and wanting to take pictures. Quality of pics not too shabby.

It's pretty cool watch. Lot of people talk trash about the cost but I know people who spend 300.00 on a watch and it just tells the time. At first I thought I made a bad purchase but after getting to work and been able to review texts and emails without taking the phone off my side it was cool. Also hands free driving with it been able to answer the phone and talk with the watch is great. LOVING THE WATCH just need more apps

    Good Watch

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Keep in mind, this is a Gen 1 watch so do NOT expect anything out of this world. The watch works great, but of course there are flaws. The S-Voice is slow to respond at times, battery live isnt that great and you can ONLY charge it if you have the cradle. that aside, it syncs great with my phone, and with the recent updates can update you on almost anything you want to be alerted on. it does have issues reconnecting to the phone after the watch or phone have been turned off. I would definitely recommend this to someone, as long as they keep in mind that the wearables are new and will take some work to get right.
