Excellent tablet! Great performance, great price!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have loved my Galaxy Note 8 Tablet for some years now, so I have been looking for an upgrade to my existing tablet. I use the note 8 mostly for note taking. But the battery was terrible, and I wanted a bigger screen size. So I have been looking around at the newer Microsoft Surface tablets because I really want a tablet I can write on. The pro surface tablets with stylus are way too expensive, and the iPad with the Apple Pen doesn't fit my description of a business device. I was almost decided on spending some big bucks on a surface pro 4, mainly for the ability to have the whole Office suite with me, when I saw an ad for the Galaxy Tab A 10.1 with S Pen. This tablet is absolutely what I was looking for! The battery life is AMAZING (I just LOVE to wake up in the morning, check facebook, read the latest news, write an email and watch one or two youtube videos and still see that glorious battery indicator STILL at 100%!!! something that only happened on my iPad Air). The stylus is not the best (the Note 8's stylus was a little bit more bulky, which made it more natural to write with) but this one feels like a tiny fragile stick of plastic. Still does the work it should, though. In terms of weight, the tablet is a little bit on the bulky side. Also, the form factor seems to be more on the wide side of it, almost like a Surface tablet. But the extra screen size helps for a more natural feel to write like in a normal piece of paper. The only drawback I saw was what Samsung did with the new Notes app, which they replaced the previous S-Note app. The new Notes app is TERRIBLE! There is a noticeable response lag when writing, and they removed a lot of the awesome features they had with S-Note. However, after googling a bit, I found you can just download the APK of the SNote app and it will work just fine. Sound is awesome! It has stereo speakers which are loud and clear. Headphone sound is also awesome. Screen brightness is rather good, a little bit of glare, but otherwise not bad. Again, did I mention battery life is AWESOME? If you are looking for a good S Pen tablet, this is the one.

Great tablet but Samsung stingy with 16 GB
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.GREAT: The screen resolution is great and the free Microsoft office apps is a nice bonus. The screen itself is about 5 3/8 inches by 8 5/8 inches and sports the 16:10 aspect ratio (if you prefer that one over 4:3). The battery lasts long too; I only charged it twice in one week and it's still at 78% as of now. It comes with a "Smart Manager" to tell you which apps to close to conserve battery and to clear from the storage. I haven't used the S pen that much but I like that it can translate your handwritten notes to text. The screen is quite responsive and I haven't seen any lags while using this gadget. The connection to the WiFi seems steady as well. It also supports microSd card of upto 256 GB so you can store a lot of images, ebooks, music and even movies on your tablet. AVERAGE: The sound quality and volume are just so-so. I tend to play my sounds quieter/softer so as not to disturb other people at home but you barely can hear anything at 50% when watching a movie. Problem is that the low quality of the sounds and the tendency for it to be tinny are more apparent when playing at media files at high volumes so I needed to find the balance. If you crave for high quality sounds, better test this out first if you can deal with the sound. NEGATIVE I wish that I could uninstall the pre-installed apps especially CNN for Samsung because I'm not a fan and I want the extra 52KB that it uses even when it's disabled. Seriously, the 16 GB internal storage is not enough considering that the system needs almost 6BG to work. Using an external drive can be an option but not all apps can be transferred to the microSD card. In addition, even though I was able to transfer a few apps to the microSD card (you have to buy this separately), the apps still find a way to save videos and images to the internal storage - and I have to transfer the files manually to the microSD card. Overall, this is a great tablet for the price (I bought it when it was on sale for $299). The only problem that can be a deal breaker for me is the 16GB storage but I'm willing to compromise considering that my other option was buying an iPad pro which was $400 more expensive than this.

Best tablet with a pen....EVER
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Wow, Samsung is a confusing company with no rhyme or reason for naming their products, especially their tablet line. Currently there are 2 tablets made by Samsung with the elusive s pen. This version of the tab a is really good. So I don't go on and on, do yourself a favor, search "9.7 tab a with pen vs. 10.1 tab a with s pen" on Google. The first page of the results will have a side by side comparison of the specs. The 10.1 version is way better with regard to screen resolution, aspect ratio, processing speed, RAM, software, and s pen functionality. I usually do not write reviews but I thought it prudent to help because I am sure there are confused consumers. Bottom line, spend the extra cash, you won't regret it!

Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1 with S Pen
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is by far one of the best tablets on the market. The S Pen is amazing and makes this tablet all the more functional. The size is great if you are gamer, reader, or need to complete tasks using apps such as Word and Excel. This tablet is a great investment.

Like the Tab A-confusing sync
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The 10.1 has the power to handle HD video smoothly; great HD screen; has the much needed SD slot; for the price is excellent. 16gb is gone in a flash with regular apps that won't move to the SD card. 32gb should be standard. Standard keyboard isn't the same as the phone-typing numbers is awkward and time-consuming. Syncing with my Samsung phone took 3 trips to BestBuy Samsung bar-way too many. Staff wasn't up to speed on Samsung syncing. One Rep couldn't even find the SD card after it was loaded even though it mounted correctly. In short great product; clumsy and confusing setup; bad tech help at Best Buy.

Great bang for the buck & 1 negative
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Love this tablet the pen is great don't loose it you can only get it from samsung it's not in the stores Today 16 gigs of storage is not enough the operating system takes up about 5 1/2 gigs now. True there is a micro card for storage and that's great for music etc. But 16 gigs really .., the European model comes with 32 gigs. I was told that some apps can be run off the card which is true but most can't. If you go into settings app manager and click on each app if it gives you the option to move it that's great. All in all a great tablet for the price. I can't imagine why samsung cheaped out on storage you have to decide if 16 gigs plus a card is enough to suit your needs..

Best tablet for this price range
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This tablet has by far the best specs and features than any other tablet at this price range. I highly recommend it. However, there is one thing that I wish were different. The tablet layout is in portrait mode which means the buttons are in the way when using it in landscape (I very rarely use it in portrait, so this is a big nuisance to me). I am constantly hitting the back button or the recent apps button when using the tablet. It happens so much, that I had to dock a star in my rating. The portrait layout also means that the speakers are on one side of the tablet when using it in landscape :( considering this is how most people watch videos, it is disappointing. I don't want to end my review with that one complaint, so let me list some of my favorite features: split screen - love love love this capability and with 3gb of ram, this feature works flawlessly; user profiles - my son uses my tablet all of the time, so I like being able to control what apps he has access to, there are also ways to hid and lock files within your user profile, just in case you want extra protection; s pen - now I use s note and I had to side load this app because this tablet comes with the new note app (Samsung Note), but either app is awesome especially with the s pen, I use it to journal, jot down quick notes or lists, and Iove to use it for drawing too. There are many more features that I love, but this review would get too long. To summarize, I love this tablet and have learned to overlook the one thing that I don't love about it. The price is well worth the loads of features you get for this brand name product!!

Great value, performs well
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great buy. 16gb memory on the low side but Samsung didnt load it with junk apps so it offsets. Go to Galaxy Apps & download: Scrapbook, Music & Video. Thats all you need. Performs excellent! Love S Pen.

Huge Disappointment; Downgrade beyond 2014
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So I bought a Note Pro 12.2 back in 2014. It was incredibly smooth, sharp screen display, and it was near perfect: No AMOLED display, and my Note 4 phone had slight more S Pen features (OCR, extracting text out of clipped images, etc). My intent was to be able to clip things out of textbooks and work word problems (engineering), and I ended up returning that tablet for missing that ONE feature that my phone could do. Everyone warned that Samsung doesn't support old products, you get what you buy... so I took their word for it. Fast forward to late 2016: Samsung has not released any new Note Pro models. The Note 7 suffered a premature death. To apologize to the public for its massive let-down of s-pen fans, it decided to release this Galaxy Tab A 10.1 w/ S-Pen to fill the void of making "gifs on the tablet." Whatever. What you need to know is that for all the S-Pen featured devices that Samsung ever released, this one does NOT have S-Note. You know, that handy note taking app that let you select the sheet type (e.g. ruled paper, grid paper, even use your own image and can make a blackboard), select your drawn shapes and refine geometry, convert math formulas, etc? Well, all of that is GONE. You get in place of all that a stripped-down "Samsung Notes" with just the ability to write on ruled paper. Yep, that's all you get. Can't do any of what you used to do. No, you cannot download S Note. Keep in mind that 16 gb really means 11 gb, as Android has moved towards a dumber design that's supposed to be more efficient for the OS and does not allow for a majority of apps available on the google play store to be moved to your microSD. Expand that memory all you want, but all you can use it for is your own music and videos, etc. Not a lot of apps can go on the SD, and often when you restart the device, those apps take a long time to be accessible. This is a huge disappointment going into 2017 and I have officially lost faith in samsung.
