    Not for Long term Use

I purchased this tablet for my 10yr daughter end of Nov 2016. By Feb I thought the tablet was no longer any good, because it would not turn on. No lights, No charge signal. It sat in my closet for a few months until I found a youtube on how to open it and I learned the power cable was somewhat detached. Even though it was tapped down to the Mother board. I reattached and like all miracles, the tablet came back to life. Register your products IMMEDIATELY so you don't have to go looking for the serial numbers. Otherwise I would have sent it to samsung. Since then, I've had to reattach that wire several times over the last 6mths. Now Half the screen it slightly black and it powers on randomly. It seems to be a bigger issue now, but of course, I'm 1 month outside of my warranty. I have a nephew with the same tablet from Xmas 2016 and My sister has had to send his in 2x already and prepping for a 3rd time.

    Best Tablet for Price

I bought one of them (model SM-P580) more than a year ago and this tablet continues to amaze me. No wonder the price didn't drop since then! Very "snappy", feature reach, a very wide range of brightness adjustment, amazing pen features without the premium price, etc. Another great feature is the WiFi connection speed. I'm measuring about 100 GB/s with my Netgear RT-AC56U Asus router (using Speedtest app from Ookla) from almost 30 feet away! A few days ago, Samsung provided the option to upgrade to Android 7.0 so I did upgrade and now I'm running the latest Android OS without any drop in performance! On the not so "bright" side, there is no option to use the existing SD slot as memory extension (without "rooting" the device) therefore you are "stocked" with 16GB memory for apps. Some apps (or their data) can be stored on the SD card (I’m using a Sandisk 128GB microSD card) but not all apps have this option. Another "annoying" feature for me has been that it has a "hardware" toolbar (not on the screen) and while in portrait mode you are very likely to touch buttons accidentally and that takes you away from what you’re doing. I’ve had a “love/hate” relationship with this tablet for quite a while because of this "annoyance"... However, love won and the snappy CPU performance, the amazing WiFi speed, the pen and the option to upgrade to the latest Android OS let love won so I had no choice but to give it 5 stars.

stylus is extremely useful. For college students, just purchase lecture notes app . Tablet is a bit heavy and capacitive buttons are too sensitive

So my last tablet met the floor and is now in the tablet afterlife. I really debated whether I needed another tablet or not. This was actually an impulse purchase for me. I have really enjoyed this tablet. It handles games and light photo / video editing with ease. And it has met the floor a few times without breaking.

    Cheap Art Tablet

I use this tablet to draw my webcomic and it works great. It's portable and with the s-pen you get pressure sensitivity in art apps. The bad part about it (since it's older) is that it doesn't have enough memory to do larger images.

LCD Screen Out after 1 year 2 months

I have various Samsung products that have lasted for several years and got this to replace a company iPad. The company iPad that was given back after I left (it was beat up and the screen protector was the only thing holding the screen showing it was durable and a good product). I only used this Samsung tablet to play apps, social, company e-mail, movies, weather, etc. to have a faster access to these instead of getting on a lap top or carrying a lap top to areas of the house. Just recently the whole tablet froze and then crashed. The screen never came back on no matter how may times I tried the soft restart. I took this to a certified Samsung repair who said it was either the LCD screen (not worth replacing since it exceeds the cost of a new tablet) or the mother board that was gone (cannot be replaced). Since I could still hear notification updates I figured it was the LCD screen. I notified Samsung if this was their new "quality" standards and they only said they would see who was certified to look over it (after I told them I already took it to the local certified repair place). To them it was past one year so it only lasted as long as they intended not 3 years or more that one would expect a tablet of this price to last. Most of the apps cannot be moved to the SD card which therefore limits the amount the you can put on the actual tablet (16GB is not sufficient for a tablet like this and needs to be 32GB if apps cannot be moved to the SD card). The bubbles around the icons after the last update cannot be turned off which is annoying. Maybe I got the one out of so many that goes bad. Samsung should have done more to have said that their products last longer than just the 1 year. I guess I'll have to go without for a while or look to go back to an iPad which at least proved that it can take a beating and still work like normal.

It is a great tablet at the sale prices. Would recommend considering without s pen version if you don't want the pen, but it is also 1gb lower in ram.

I don't understand all these good reviews!

The speakers are only on one side of this tablet so if you view a video horizontally you can hear the volume from only one side which feels (or sounds) like either a left or right speaker is out (depending on which way you are holding the tablet). If you decide to watch vertically (like in bed with it resting on your tummy) the speakers are muffled on your tummy. The resolution looks worse than my old tablet that only had 1280x800 which makes no sense but I can't find a way to adjust the view so it's unacceptable. The S pen only writes FAT lines. I bought it yesterday, charged it overnight and in the few hours I've had it today I can already tell you that I'm returning it. It is just not the quality I expected. Very disappointed! If this is what you're looking for, there will be an open box for sale tomorrow after I return this.

The device lasted for about 2 months before the screen stopped working. No attempts were made by Best Buy or Samsung to resolve the issue.

Mine didn't come with the S Pen

I bought this for my daughter on Black Friday for Christmas and it didn't come with the S pen in the box. Best Buy wouldn't replace or return it, since it was after the return date. Called Samsung and they wouldn't do anything either. I can't complain about the tablet itself because she likes it and it seems to work fine.
