However, without a case or frame to hang on to, the device slips & slides out of my hands. Secondly, when reading a book (e.g. Kindle app) the controls on the sides are so sensitive that I usually lose my place (in the book) and have to begin again to find it.

We do always recommend protective cases on all devices to protect from accidental drops and bumps. This will also help with the grip and slippery feel you mention experiencing with your device. You can also usually orient the device differently so that the controls are on a different side to help with the accidental touches to prevent interference with your reading. The screen stopped working, the battery died fast, and the performance was terrible from the start. It’s made of cheap plastic and falls apart easily. Total waste of money — not worth it at all.
