A very good watch (not so good on iOS)
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It is a good fitness band/watch with GPS/Heart rate monitor. You cannot make calls with this thing as even though it has micro phone it lacks a speaker. Yes, you can connect it with a Bluetooth headset and in that case, call goes to that, but that functionality is not there on iPhone, only on Android. You get Phone, Contacts & Samsung Pay when you sync it with an Android, these options are not available when you connect it with iPhone. I checked the app store and as of today, there are very few applications and the best health app you can use is Samsung Health, which itself is pretty good but if you are already using some app it may get some time and you will lose your progress. The Samsung Health App is mediocre at best on iOS, it kept telling me that there is no wearable device; though the galaxy app was showing the watch as connected. So, if you are using an iPhone, I will stay clear from it or wait till proper support is there. I have still given it 4 stars as it all works wonderfully on any Android device. The sync is seamless, all details is shown correctly the interface is good. Please note that If you are used to of using some fitness app, Samsung OS might not have it as this is not android wear it is Samsung own Tizen. Tizen is not bad, there are lots of faces to download and some of them are pretty good. Battery life is decent with location off, though goes down by EOD if GPS is on (Which is standard considering the battery size). Charger is magnetic wireless, and no hassle. I think the size is perfect for people with small - medium wrists and is very light weight. The band is smooth and seems to be good quality. There is one extra L size band included in the box along with a charger. I have been testing this for over a week now with iPhone, and the only thing which I really thing missing is the support to make calls from the watch it self. Yesterday I synced it with Android (do note that the watch will reset when you change phones so make sure you have backup your data). It connects to your phone (Apple/Android), and can alert you in case of notifications, which is handy as you can silent your phone and still get notification. It auto detects your workout, walking, running, cycling. Tizen interface is very responsive and the applications I used, they all worked as intended and I had no issues using them. It was very pleasant to use, full marks there. To conclude, it is a very nice-looking premium feel watch which works great with an Android phone. So, 5 stars for that. iPhone experience is half baked at best; so, 3 stars for that. Decide based on which phone family you come from. Recommended for Android users.

Solid Performance!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've been a fan of smart watched since the beginning. I've owned no less than five of them. Everything from simple fitness trackers to the big and heavy stylish watches. Each new generation of watch has seen improvements over the previous generation. The Galaxy Watch Active is probably the "smartest" smart watch yet. The watch is nicely made yet very lightweight. I like the simple all black design. When it comes to my everyday watch for work, I prefer a simple design such as this. The 40mm size is a little bit smaller than many watches but I think it is a good compromise size for everyone. The band is very comfortable and it is nice to see two different sized bands included. Compared to earlier watches, the battery life is great. Now keep in mind that you will still find you need to charge it every evening. But unlike many smart watches from before that you would be struggling to make it thru the day with, I find I am still at over 50% battery life by the time I go to bed. Pretty impressive considering my normal use. I also like the charger. Much like others, you have a magnetic charger to attach it to. But unlike others that are small and finicky to attach, this one is a disk about the same size as the watch itself. Easy to attach without fumbling around. The functions are straight forward. All of the standard health tracking features are here. Heart rate, steps, calories burned, sleep monitor and so on. I like the inclusion of the stress monitor. From what I can tell, everything seems to be pretty accurate. I really like that it seems to stay connected to my my phone very well. I have gotten more than a little frustrated in the past with other watches because they can't seem to hold a good connection. This would lead to missed notifications. That drives me nuts! But so far, the Galaxy Watch Active seems to have the most stable connection to my phone that I have ever seen from a watch. FYI, I am using it with a Note 9. At the end of the day, for me a smart watch needs to be there without being noticeable if that makes any sense. I want the functions to work so well that you don't spend time being frustrated with the watch not functioning well. This watch does just that. It looks great, has great battery life and functions so well that I can go about my day without getting frustrated by it. what more can you ask for??

Awesome!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Amazing gadget. Always wanted something light yet have most functional fitness watch. Those complaining no rotary dial why are you buying it and then complaining it? The watch without dial is what it is and is perfect. No speaker, really who wants that these days and age of Bluetooth buds? Best and most beautiful fitness watch that is slim, and inexpensive.

Good Smartwatch but.......
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Got this Galaxy Active more for a smartwatch then the activity part. As a smartwatch it has the features I wanted for my basic needs as far as gettig notifications from my phone that is in either my pocket or backpack. The Galaxy Active is a good looking smartwatch that is pretty sleek and not bulky. The display is easy to read even in sunlight. Touch control worked very well with good and accurate responses. The only activiity uses I have used is the pedometer and heartrate monitor. The heartrate monitor has very good response time. You can do a lot with the Samsung Health app but that is beyond my needs so I have not added it. I did have 2 issues with the Galaxy Active thogh. Both issues deal with the screen turning on via touch/tap or raising your wrist niether of which I have been able to get to work thus my 3 star rating as it is not as easy to have to press the button to turn the screen on as it would be to tap or raise my arm. The gesture to turn off the screen works perfectly. I don't know if it's a software issue? (I did update) If not for these issues I would give it 4 stars. I would still recommend the Galaxy Active if you like Samsung and are looking to get a smartwatch with activity tracking options as it's performance is really good and it's a good looking watch.

Very light but very capable
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It is indeed a very light smart watch. Lighter than most other available in the market. Built from premium material which makes it feel premium and solid. Bluetooth range is good, WiFi is also available and handy sometimes. I am trying to compare its data to a fitbit data, it looks like they have some differences... Samsung is mostly using some different algorithm when calculating sleep hours and hear resting rates. In this, Fitbit is more close to what is real (compared to medical machines). Good to have for daily use. Tracking exercise, steps and calories. Phone notifications go well on it. Making calls and receiving calls can be achieved using a Bluetooth headphone or directly through the phone. Phone locating function is sometimes useful. It comes with 2 wrist bands type (one half) one sized small and the other large. That's a good thinking but the main side of the wrist band (with the buckle) is one size which not very good as the smart watch will not stay good on your wrist. It tends to move toward the buckle side. I am thinking to switch their locations. It might help. In general, it is good and useful. It helps less reaching to the phone whenever there is a notification. The watch battery lasted almost 2 days and half (stress and heart beats are full time. Intensive use as well) I tried the Samsung Pay with it. It works very good and fast. Strongly recommended if you want a light smart watch with good battery and nice features.

One word "PERFECT"
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Galaxy Watch Active is everything I needed for my gym and activity. I can use it at the gym with complete confidence that it will be accurate in regards to heart rate, tracking activity, and its not big and wont get in the way. I can also wear it during a basketball game without worrying about it hurting anyone because its so soft. the minimalist design is PERFECT, and the stress release technique is great. I cant feel that am wearing a watch, it has activity tracking for every single activity there is including swimming in a pool or outside. great access to Calendar, Spotify, and location services is also easy to navigate and use. its not a deal breaker for me if it doesn't have a speaker to make calls using it, I don't make a lot of calls anyway, but the fact that you can dictate texts like you do with yur phone using the michrophone is also a great feature. the watch strap is soft & comfortable and washable as well. the watch face and screen can be scratched easily but I will not be using a screen protector because it will make it look bad as there are no notches that can hide the edges of the screen protector. the price point is a tad high but am sure it will go down with time. this activity watch is way more attractive than any other activity trackers and can be worn by both males & females. it comes in a minimalist well thought box with a wireless charger and a quick star guide and a manual.

Good for the price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. At first it felt weird being a smaller watch than the Galaxy Watch, but after some time with it, I kinda forgot I was wearing something on my wrist, haven't tried the sleep function yet. It hasn't disappointed yet, but will be ready to try it out tomorrow on its first workout. It having no bezel and no ring is something to adjust to. All in all it is a very nice watch to wear.

Excellent Fitness Smartwatch
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Galaxy Watch Active is a great fitness-oriented smartwatch that looks as good as it performs. To start, the watch is very simple yet attractive. The smaller 40mm metal body is more minimalist than the usual standard Galaxy Watch as it lacks the rotating bezel. However, this plays well to its focus on fitness. The screen is bright and beautiful and the synthetic rubber band is soft and generally comfortable. Though, the way the excess band tucks inside the band through a slot rather than using a loop can be tricky. Setup was fairly quick and easy. Apps and menus are easy to access and understand and there is plenty of customization options. I paired the watch to a Galaxy S9 which was painless. There were a few extra apps that needed to be installed on the phone and a lot of permissions to grant, but this all made sense in the context of how the watch's functionality. The watch also has performed well. The screen generally responds quickly, steps are tracked accurately, and battery life has lasted comfortably through a full day of usage. Every once in a while, the screen might lag or notifications may be a little delayed, but the issue isn't chronic. All in all, the Galaxy Watch Active is a great smartwatch.

Good, but not what expected
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my first Samsung smartwatch. I've previously owned a ZenWatch 1, a Pebble Time and an Amazfit Bip. For reference, I have a Pixel 2 phone. I must say that this Watch Active has some limiting SMS functionality. I even did a chat with Samsung customer support, because I thought I was doing something wrong. Nope... I was told it's because I'm not using a Samsung phone and he would not assist any further. Here are some of the downfalls I'm seeing... 1. In the Galaxy Wear phone app, you do not have access to any Message settings. The only thing you can do is toggle the Message notifications On or Off. 2. The Message app does not show on the watch's app list. However, you can ask Bixby to open the Message app. When I asked it to open Messages, it seemed to have displayed the message I last viewed on the watch. It wasn't even the last message I received from the same person. I tried it again, a couple days later, and it still opened that same message, not any of the messages I received since then. 3. Notifications do not appear on the watch for very long... maybe 2-3 seconds. It would be nice if you had control over how long a notification will stay visible. As far as battery life, it seems to be performing average to above average. Keep in mind that I'm coming from one watch that lasted 10 days and another watch that lasted 3 weeks. With the "always on" set to Off, I was able to get a solid 2-3 days before needing to charge. The first 2 times I tested it, the watch battery was at 24% at the end of the 2nd day. This time around, I'm on my 3rd day, at 1:00pm and the battery is at 14%. With the "always on" set to on, taking the watch off the charger at 7:30am, the battery was at 12% at 10:00pm that night. Huge difference. I was using a watch face that has a dimmed version, but left quite a few items on the screen. Next, I will be trying a different watch face that, when dim, only shows the time and battery level. Tracking activity... I thought I'd give the "Automatic Workout Detection" a try. This did not work very well for me. I had my phone on me, as well, when I went for a walk, so I was able to compare the 2 different programs... Samsung Health and Google Fit. I made sure that Automatic Workout Detection setting was On on my watch. I walked 20 minutes, stopped and sat at a park for 30 minutes, then walked back again, for another 20 minutes. Google Fit detected and recorded that I had completed 2, 20-minute walks. Samsung Health only recorded my 2nd walk, on my way home. It did not detect/track my 1st walk, to the park. Overall, the watch is fairly status-quo for smartwatches these days. They still have a way to go, especially to work with Android phones. I am surprised that Samsung is being to blatant about lack of compatibility with non-Samsung phones. I expected more from a non-Apple piece of hardware. I'm really having a hard time trying to figure out if I'd recommend this watch to a friend. I guess I would say... Only if you own a Samsung phone.

How Did I Not Already Have a Device!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love the alerts I get when I get a call or a text message. I can see the text without needing my phone or see who is calling me. I did not realize how much I miss not being able to see my daily steps, sleep pattern and other health alerts. The device was a little harder than I expected to set up but once set up it has been a dream.
