Great smart watch and fit tracker in one

This is my first smart watch I've owned so I do not have a previous one for comparison. However, the watch has performed extremely well. I've been testing it for a couple days now and it's going on day three and the battery is still going strong on one full charge, from the initial day of receiving. I've been playing around with it, consistenly checking out different features, downloading watch faces and apps, running apps, making calls, updating stats and sleeping with it for vitals and sleep monitoring. With all of this activity the watch has kept up great. No lags, no freezing, so far. At first, I was worried that it may not have been tracking my steps correctly. It seemed that on a certain pre loaded watch face the steps weren't tracking immediately, but as I changed the face to a downloaded one, the steps were tracked accurately. Since having the watch I received an update today and the tracking on the original face I had is now being tracked correctly with no issue. The watch isn't too heavy, or garishly big. It's comfortable on my wrist for extended periods of time and during sleep. The body feels sturdy. It looks sleek but it isn't as low profile as others on the market. Switching between screens/apps is easy. You can swipe or use the dial. Buttons are useful and sturdy with click sounds. Which you are able to turn off. The sound is what you would expect from a watch that's "smart". It's not mind blowing as it shouldn't be because it's a watch, but its sharp and loud enough to hear. However, when on a call the talk volume is loud and clear. I forgot I was talking on a watch instead of my phone. I like that you can set different rings and tones just like on your phone although choices are a little bit limited. Apps for entertainment and other genres are also extremely limited. I haven't used bixby yet, so I can't attest to its ability and function. All together the watch is very intuitive and quite responsive. I haven't had any negative experiences. I would definitely recommend this smart watch for someone like me who is new to the game and to someone looking to upgrade.

Great design, screen, and battery life

Samsung’s new Galaxy Watch is a great all-round smartwatch that builds on the strengths of previous versions while also failing to shake loose of some of their limitations. Pros: - Excellent build quality - Attractive design with a truly round screen and sizes to fit a variety of wrists - Rotating bezel is an outstanding way to control a smartwatch - Outstanding OLED screen helps watch face designs look their best and provides strong visibility even in sunlight - Strong battery life – even the smaller 42mm design manages to last 2-4 days depending on usage and settings - Solid suite of built-in applications cover all the smartwatch basics, including a rich implementation of Samsung Health - Works with almost any smartphone and can connect over WiFi without needing to be in Bluetooth range Cons: - Very limited selection of third-party apps - Samsung pay implementation was hit and miss for me - Voice control is via Bixby, which is still not as strong as Google Assistant - If you want to use the watch for phone call audio, the require audio Bluetooth connection can conflict with other connections such as in-car handsfree systems Hardware and Performance The new Galaxy watch is superbly constructed from high quality materials. The included rubber strap won’t be to everybody’s taste, but it is soft and comfortable and the lugs are standard widths so its easy to swap in other off-the-shelf watch straps. The standout features are the OLED display, which is very sharp and makes watch faces look great, and the outstanding rotating bezel. The bezel is the single best interface element I’ve seen on a smartwatch, being intuitive and efficient to use, with a nice tactile action as well. Performance is very quick and I’ve noticed no lag in daily operation. Battery life is superb for a smartwatch, lasting well into 3 days with moderate use and GPS enabled. Enabling the (very good) “always on display” reduces battery life to about 24 hours, although the quality of the resulting display is better than I’ve seen in other implementations. The included speakers are sufficiently loud to be heard in most situations and the microphone did OK picking up my voice commands (Bixby’s less than stellar speech recognition notwithstanding). Charging is handled wirelessly, and Samsung includes a nice charging stand and adaptor in the box. The stand holds the watch sideways, which I prefer for efficient use of space on the nightstand. In the back of the watch is a suite of sensors for monitoring of hear rate and stress levels. All in all, as with most Samsung products, there’s very little to complain about in terms of hardware quality. Software and Features Samsung loads the Galaxy Watch with a full suite of smartwatch features for everything from notifications, call controls, messaging, media playback (both on-device and remote control), weather, news, and the very deep Samsung Health tracking and exercise suite. All of this runs on Samsung’s Tizen, a lightweight but mature mobile operating system that Samsung has now used across several generations of smartwatch. It’s just as well the included software is so robust, because as much as Tizen is a great OS for wearables, there is very little third-party developer support. I was unable to find native apps for some of the big names like Nest, Wemo, etc. There are workarounds to these omissions, including IFTTT support, but native apps would be far easier for most users. There are some independently developed apps, including one for Nest, but support and longevity are an open question. In general, if you’re looking to cover the basics and have robust health tracking, the built-in software has you covered. If you’re looking for a device to control all of your smart home needs (and you don’t use Samsung’s Smart Things hubs), this may not be as great a fit. One area where there is a huge variety of third-party options is watch faces. There is a large library to suit almost any taste, including many solid free options. The watch faces really come to life on the excellent OLED display too. Samsung includes Samsung Pay and NFC support. I was able to import one of my cards from an install of Samsung Pay I’ve been using successfully on a Galaxy S7, but so far I’ve been unable to get it to complete a payment, despite at least one of the terminals I tried explicitly stating support for Samsung Pay. I assume I’ve just been unlucky and your mileage may vary. One thing to keep in mind is that this particular implementation of Samsung Pay works only with NFC terminals – the magnetic stripe transmission system that makes Samsung Pay unique on phones is not supported on the watch. In all honesty, I find it easier to just whip out my phone in any event since there I can use the fingerprint reader rather than putting a PIN into the watch before making a payment. Conclusion Without broader third party support for Tizen, the Galaxy Watch is very much a case of “what you see is what you get”. If you live in Samsung’s ecosystem, or you’re happy with the admittedly very good built-in functionality, you’re likely to be very pleased with this device. The performance is quick, battery life is strong, display is excellent, and the bezel makes navigating the system a breeze. However, if you’re looking for deep integration with major non-Samsung smart home providers, you may be better served with offerings than run on more mainstream operating systems.

There are a lot of features I loved about this watch. The size, the timer and alarms, the weather app, the 4.0 Tizen display and the altimeter. However, this is wear the love stops. I primarily got this watch for the ability to download music. This process is one of the most cumbersome and abysmal processes on earth. In fact, after several hours by myself and several more hours with Fitbit customer service, it was IMPOSSIBLE to download any music at all. Too bad. I hope they fix this known bug. Returned it.

while I loved the look of this smart watch it was not accurate at all. I experienced sporadic heart rate measurements that were 140 bpm higher than my actual manually calculated rate. it tracked me as sleeping during the day while reading with no simple way to manually turn on sleep tracker when actually going to sleep. for the price, these were things which should have been accurate

Calories tracker is way off. I’m 200 pound 40 year old guy working out 2-3 times a week. I work in construction field. After entire day, 6 hours of physical work, tracker shows 1700-1800 hundred calories burned. Joke. But if You only switch it to for instance Yoga workout You can tracker shows 300 calories per hour. Don’t buy for tracking purposes

This is my 3rd Samsung Galaxy watch to go bad. I have given them a fair try, but after three different models going bad, I have finally changed brands and bought something else. I am not hard on things, have never caused damage to a cell phone. . .but these watches, you can't keep them running.

Aesthetically beautiful. Features is everything you would need and more. I couldn’t convince myself to buy an Apple Watch bec. I could not justify why I am paying for a $400 watch and look like I am wearing a $1 toy watch. Only giving this product a 1 star due to the defective battery. I had it for a week and the only way I could make it last for a day is to put it in battery power saving mode. So I had to return it and exchanged it for the 46mm

Solves the problems posed by other smartwatches

The Galaxy Watch, wits rotary dial bezel and dedicated back key, elegantly resolves the problems posed by gesture-based smartwatches that make referencing even basic info more of a chore than a pleasure. The Galaxy Watch is well-built, with a durable case and quality screen that gets bright enough to be usable in ample sunlight. There's a reflective layer on top of the watch face which smudges easily, but that can be rectified with a carefully applied screen protector or regular cleaning. The watch feels comfortably durable, which is important for a piece of tech that's far more likely to get dinged up on your wrist than your pocket-concealed smartphone. Where the watch really shines, though, is in its execution of the core smartwatch functions that so many other competitors struggle with. The most important functions, email, alarms, and calendar capabilities, really shine with the rotary bezel selection switch. No more swiping through cards trying to see the full text of an important email; you an simply rotate the bezel a few clicks and hit back. For people who need something discreet to use during meetings, or long waits in traffic, this is ideal. I stopped using smartwatches prior to this precisely because of the difficulty posed by accessing the most elementary and important stuff. Plus, you can easily make an adjustment to your playlist from the watch face as well. The health and fitness apps, truth be told, are not as precise or accurate as what comes with a fitness tracker, but if what you need is a fitness tracker than this probably isn't the device for you. For business professionals, this is an ideal accessory that's attractive, well-sized (no more giant buttons bursting out of your shirt cuff), and stocked with the right software you need. People with more casual needs will undoubtedly think this is overkill, but for those of us who need to stay in constant email contact with multiple accounts, this thing is a godsend. The battery life doesn't disappoint either, and you won't need to charge this any more than you do the smartphone it's paired with. I tested this device using an Android handset, and can't speak for its usability on iOS, but I can strongly recommend this to Android users who need a "quick check" via a smartwatch. If devices like this were part of the first generation of smartwatch releases, the adoption rate would be far higher than it is now. The Watch may seem a bit pricey, but the markup is well worth it. Highly recommended if you don't want to whip your phone out of your pocket every minute, or can't.

    Great smartwatch and fairly intuitive

After looking at the Apple watches for my daughter for Christmas I thought I would just look at the Samsung equivalent for myself. Boy, am I glad I did. This review is not about comparing the two watches. What watch is square anyway? I opted for the smaller of the two Galaxy watches. This 42mm is just the right size and is very light. This is my first venture into the smartwatch category. Here are my impressions: Pros: Excellent style and build quality. It looks great and people notice it. Seamlessly pairs with your smartphone without having to enter any wifi passwords or configure emails. It brings in all of your contacts. The interface is fairly straightforward and easy to navigate. There are tons of options to tweak the watch just the way you like it. The response of sliding the screens left and right is super fast. The rotating bezel is a very nice addition and highly useful for navigation. You can receive and send text messages. You can receive and send email messages. You can receive and place phone calls. The phone call quality is excellent. My wife didn't even know I was talking to her on the watch. You can create text by writing letters with your finger and it converts it to text. The display is crisp and clean looking. You can receive and send text messages via wifi if Bluetooth is out of range. You can receive and send email messages via wifi if Bluetooth is out of range. The app on your smartphone pairs easily with your watch and it works great to tweak your watch and download apps to your watch. The phone charges wirelessly on the included inductive charging stand. It's water resistant so you don't have to worry about getting it wet. Samsung Pay works great and it's secure and it's easy to configure and use. The altimeter accuracy is spot on! I checked the watch altimeter reading to my locally verified altimeter reading and it was only off by one foot at 650 feet! Battery life is a pro. I've been using the watch heavily over the last two days because it's new. I was receiving text messages and emails throughout the two days. I set alarm reminders. I received and placed phone calls. I added and deleted watch apps from the watch. After heavy use, the battery never went below 70% after a full day of use. I charged it just before bed and it was ready the next morning. Huge assortment of downloadable watch faces albeit some you have to purchase for a few bucks. The battery will charge from 70% to 100% is about 40 minutes. The watch seamlessly connects to known wifi networks that your phone already knows. The watch will let you know if you are out of Bluetooth range and wifi will kick in. The watch can be used "standalone" as an mp3 player and fitness exerciser when out of Bluetooth or wifi range. So-so: The Bixby voice commands are merely okay. It sometimes doesn't know what you're saying so you have to repeat it. The Bixby voice output is many generations behind Google. It sounds cheap and robotic. You are tethered via Bluetooth and its range for full watch functionality. Cons: You cannot send or receive phone calls via wifi if Bluetooth is out of range. Many downloadable watch apps are 1st generation. No stock calculator app is included. You have to download one. No stock stopwatch app is included. You have to download one.

My review is on the 42 mm version of the Samsung Galaxy watch, which is the version I received through the Best Buy Tech Insider program. Let me first say this is my first smartwatch, so I don't have any comparisons to make, but these are my thoughts as a first time owner. Samsung has gone all out on this watch, trying to give everybody something to love. The watch is swim ready to 50 meters, Has a plethora of fitness tracking abilities, provides weather, heart rate, altitude, barometric pressure, and GPS readings. The watch syncs up seamlessly with my samsung galaxy 9 plus using the Samsung apps for email and texting and this version, being the all black version, looks really good. The first thing I did when receiving the watch was to sync it with may phone. The process only took minutes and was flawless. The watch downloaded an update and I was ready to go. I charged the watch to 100% and wore the watch 2 full days and 2 nights before the charge level dropped below 10%. This was with normal use receiving text and email notifications, call notifications, the heart rate sensor measuring every 10 minutes and phone calls coming in. Remember, I am reviewing the 42mm version which has a smaller battery than the larger 46mm version, so one would expect the larger watch to add another day onto the battery life. In real life, I don't want my watch to be at 10% the morning I plan to wear it, so I find myself charging every evening before bed and wearing the watch all night (to use the sleep tracker function) and all the next day. I am usually around 60% charge by the evening. If I have any negatives they would be this - the thickness of the watch and the time it takes to recharge the watch from a very low battery percentage. This watch is thicker than a normal watch, but there is a lot in this package and there needs to be room for the speaker and mic located at the bottom. I don't think this watch is much thicker than any other top tier smart watch, but it is not a thin watch. From 10% charge, the watch took nearly 2 1/2 hours to fully charge. It would be nice to have a fast charge feature in the watch, but it doesn't appear to be the case. Overall, I really like this watch and I wear it everyday now. If you are looking for a watch that really can do it all, you might want to give this one a shot.
