Battery life isnt as good
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. They say four to five days on a battery charge, I have most of the functions shut off on my watch and the brightness kept at minimum. From a full charge to 60 percent after only using 24 hours. Very disappointed in the product

Fails to count steps
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Got this for my wife but ended up returning it. CA I had high hopes on this watch but it doesn't perform the most basic task a smartwatch is supposed to - count steps! Ended up returning it after finding it is a known issue that is not resolved by samsung since its launch.

Good BUT issues with floor count
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have had it for a year now Pros: the battery is great connects to my phone without a problem shows my notifications greatly when connected to my phone. Very beautiful I get SOOO many compliments on it. Cons: I really wished that since I can use it with wifi without the phone I wished Facebook, messenger and Instagram had a app on there so when I use my phone without it with wifi at theme parks my notifications from the apps would alert me when I have a message or notification instead of having to search in the browser for the apps. Another MAJOR issue is the floor count when going up stairs it doesn't always know when I am climbing stairs I have tried my arms in different positions but hasn't worked I even tried walking around a little bit before climbing stairs but still doesn't register it. Overall it is a good watch a everything else seems to be accurate.

Great smart watch
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a great all around watch, and my first smart watch. I really like the style of the watch as it has the appearance of a classic watch, but all the features of a smart watch. A plethora of different bands is available from various outlets so you can really customize the look however you want. Pros Excellent quality Attractive design Interface is extremely intuitive, and the rotating bezel is definitely a plus. Connection to my smartphone was seamless and easy (Galaxy S8) The standard band is comfortable enough to wear all day and should fit almost any wrist with the inclusion of the different lengths in the package. The step tracker keeps up pretty well with my walking, and the automatic "workout" tracking picks up after about 10 minutes if I go for a walk. Most of the notifications are useful, and it syncs well with my smart phone's notifications. It's easy to disable just the ones you don't want on your watch. It also reminds you to move around every so often, which is useful for me. Call notification is good, but I haven't actually used it to talk on a call. I'm not Dick Tracy. A multitude of watch faces is available, you can have just about anything you want (but is this really useful?). If the battery life were better, you could use the always on display and it would give you a very traditional looking watch. The screen is bright and clear, easy to read. It automatically tracks your heart rate throughout the day and also "measures stress". These sensors seem to work well for me. The music player works well with the phone. I typically use Pandora and the controls work well with that app. I suppose I could download some MP3 files directly onto the watch and have those to listen to, but I haven't tried that. Cons Battery life is not as good as I'd hoped. If you enable the always on display, you can get a whole day, but you have to charge it every night. Without that on, I can get a solid 2 days out of the battery. This, however, impacts any sleep tracking you might want to do with this, because you can essentially only wear it every other night. While the standard band is comfortable, it's kind of ugly. There are plenty of aftermarket options available though. The step tracker works great as far as I can tell. The floor tracker, not so much. I live in a 2 story house. I definitely should have more than 2 floors average per day. Probably more like 50 in reality. It just doesn't track this well enough for me. Most notifications are useful, but... I tried asking the watch itself to remind me, and it sets up a reminder, but only notifies me on my phone. Maybe that's a setting that I've done incorrectly. Alarms... this probably shouldn't be in the cons section because they work, but, because the battery life is as it is, alarms aren't as useful as they could be. Somehow a timer and a stopwatch app are not included by default. This seems like an oversight, or maybe they're just trying to conserve space. These apps are available and work great, but I'm listing this here because they're not included by default. Bixby... what else can I say? It's just not as good as the Google assistant. At least not yet. Maybe this will improve with time. Other It supports Samsung Pay, but only with NFC. I haven't found this useful to me, but it doesn't really fit as a Pro or Con. I may experiment with it at some point. I think it's probably a nice feature to have. GPS - I think it tracks location, but I don't know what it does with the data. I can't find it anywhere. Overall, I really like the watch. I use it more than I thought I would for various tasks like text messages, answering calls (although I typically use a headset for audio), emails, timers, etc. If you're concerned about battery life then I would suggest going with the larger 46mm version which has a larger battery (and thus longer life).

Good 1st Smartwatch For Me
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This review is for the Samsung Galaxy Watch black 42mm model, which is the watch that I actually received. In general, most of my conclusions should apply to the larger model as well, since they are essentially the same except for their physical dimensions, and battery capacity. As the review summary above states, the Galaxy Watch is the first smartwatch that I have owned, therefore I have no prior experience with which to compare but I can state that so far I have no huge complaints about this watch. I use a Galaxy Note 8 as my main phone and pairing it to the Galaxy Watch was simply a matter of downloading the Samsung Wearable app, turning my phone’s Bluetooth, and powering up the watch. The entire process took only seconds. I also downloaded the full user manual from the Samsung website, as the watch comes with a Quick Start Guide only. Being a first time smartwatch owner, I am pretty amazed by all the capabilities of this device. It seems to be quite fast and smooth in operation. I have really only one complaint so far and that would be the Galaxy Watch’s battery life. I believe it is stated as being up to six days which is unrealistic for a typical watch user (as I believe I am). I keep my Bluetooth always connected and the Always On Display set to off, the heart monitor set to every 10 minutes, and I am getting around two days of battery life. However, the 46 mm model having a larger battery, the life would be more like four days, I presume. As far as looks and feel go, I prefer this round watch, as opposed to the more square type such as the Apple Watch, and I also like the bezel control as well. This watch feels substantial but not too much weight to be uncomfortable for long periods of wear. I tend to only remove my watch to shower (even though it is waterproof of course) and to charge the battery, and I find it very comfortable. In general, if you are thinking of purchasing the Samsung Galaxy Watch, I would recommend it highly.

Uncomfortable
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This watch was super uncomfortable on my wrist. I have boney wrists. I've had a Fitbit before and it was comfortable. I returned this and waited for the Active2 to come out. That one was way better feeling than this one.

Handy watch
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got the 42mm black version of this. I didn't think it was too small. I was able to navigate apps and what not with ease. The black look makes it seem very sleek. I love that it isn't a square body. Besides the display turning on and off it looks like a regular watch. The health apps are good for tracking my stress, heart rate, and steps. I like that it buzzes me when I've been sitting still too long. The display is very crisp. When you have a watch face that has hands it looks like there really are hands moving. There is a great community of watch faces for free to download. I found one's super simple with just a digital readout to complex detailed analog to quirky pacman or mario displays. There really is something for everyone. I found Bixby the voice activated part to be pretty worthless. It didn't understand what I said and when it did there were so many clicks I could of pulled my phone out and dialed already. Also the texting it pretty hard. It has an option to write the letters on the screen and it was constantly writing the wrong letters I never got figured out a good way to get it to work. I mostly used the canned responses it gave you. I'd recommend getting a different watch band. the silicone one fits nice but it captures moisture. So if you're washing your hands or outside it starts to get irritating. On average the battery lasted 3 days for me and just had a quick overnight charge on the dock. Even when it was running low on battery it was still useful and just pretty much turned into a fitbit giving me the time and my step count. It also has a pretty good blutooth range. I could leave my phone in the other room and still be connected. It would be nice if I could activate the screen by shaking my wrist. Sometimes the motion from hip to chest didn't trigger the display or if I was sitting and wanted to see the time.

A good, evolutionary not revolutionary development
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First let me begin by stating that I received this watch from Best Buy as a subject for the review. Having said that, I find myself confused by this watch. On one hand, it builds wonderfully on the past versions of the Samsung watches (BTW, there is a name change here - from S to Galaxy). In many ways, that is a good thing because the past versions were good. Where the improvement really shines is in the battery life. I found myself going between 3 to 5 days between charges. For me, this is important. Yet, it is also disappointing, especially when compared with the new Apple Series 4 watches. These watches are bigger (42 to 44 mm) and they add more health-related features. While more expensive, they seem like a better deal. Samsung apparently took the safe path - it took what it was doing well and expanded on it. It would have been nice to add some more features. It also would have been nice if Samsung had taken a feature from the Android world - a feature where you can see the hour and minute hands even when the watch is not on. So, what do you have. You have a watch that offers better battery life; a watch is cheaper than the Apple line; a watch that represents an evolutionary development. If you currently own a Samsung S3 or Tumi, then I don't see a compelling reason to upgrade (not as compelling as in the case of the Apple Series 4). If you want a watch that offers long batter life, then this is one to seriously consider. In the end, for me, this is simply an OKAY watch. It is not part of my usual watch rotation. BTW, I did not have a chance to contact Samsung customer service, but I hope that they have improved - they could not have been worse in my past experiences.

Great watch, but broke after a month.

The watch will clearly be on as I will still get the vibrate from notifications, but the screen is completely black.

A Beautiful and Useful Phone Companion
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a review for the Samsung Galaxy Watch 42 mm. I wasn’t sure I needed or wanted a smartwatch. I mean, my phone (Pixel 2XL) takes care of all of my mobile electronic needs so beautifully, how much greater convenience could a smart watch provide? Then I got the Galaxy Watch, and I have grown to love it! And here’s why... First of all, it looks like a watch. It is round and rugged looking (in black), and the watch faces are brilliant and beautiful. There is an almost “3-D” effect to the dial which is very attractive. It is big, for a watch, and I was initially going to get the 46mm model due to the improved battery life. However, even though I have a large wrist (see picture), I am happier with the size of the 42mm model. I get a kick out of turning the bezel to scroll through the apps. Next, this watch does some incredible things, such as: It not only tells me when I get a text, but it shows me the text, and lets me respond (either by pre-set phrases, voice input which works amazingly well, or by fiddling with an on-screen keyboard, which is really too clumsy to use all the time) I can make and answer phone calls right from the watch, and never touch the phone I have in my pocket. I feel like Dick Tracy when I do this. When someone calls me, I twist the bezel clockwise and the call is answered, or a twist counterclockwise can defer the call. No reaching in the pocket! Finally, of course it can do the usual “fitness-related” things. I have found that the GPS to be highly accurate in following me on my runs, and it is helpful to know how far I have travelled. The step counter is also very accurate, but when my arm gets sweaty after running on a hot day, the watch loses the ability to monitor my heart rate. I suspect that this might be a technological limitation, and I do not know if other fitness-oriented watches such as Fitbit or Garmin do a better job. There is Bixby. I have not experimented with this much, but it is very handy just to push a button, say “set a timer for x” and it happens. As far as other apps go, I am told that the options for Tizen OS are not nearly as great as for iOS or Wear OS, but my phone is still likely to perform better as a multimedia platform, calculator, or search engine. I have used Samsung Pay on my watch, but the process of signing in with a PIN is a PITA. Paying with my phone is much easier, but I do have to reach in my pocket for it. So, I am very happy with my Galaxy Watch- it is a beautiful device that allows me to enjoy many of aspects of the mobile wizardry of my Pixel 2XL, without having to hold onto a phone. I can recommend it highly.

Great looking watch that does it all
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The watch looks great. Love the round traditional watch shape and the all black color. The rotating bezel makes navigating through the watch easy and quick. 42mm is a great size especially for someone who doesn't have big wrists. As a smart watch, I love having access to viewing and replying to text messages and emails and seeing who is calling. The galaxy app store has a decent amount of useful apps and thousands of custom watch faces to use. Fitness tracking is very useful too with a step and calorie tracker, heart rate monitor, and access to over 30 different workouts for your tracking needs. Overall this is easily my favorite smart watch out by far right now especially aesthetically. The only thing I would change with the watch is to replace Bixby with google but hopefully Bixby continues to evolve and become more useful.
