Nothing Pro about it. It's a Galaxy Watch5 Plus.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It's called the Galaxy Watch5 Pro, but I feel like it's a marketing gimmick to broaden the potential market for it. Using Samsung's own naming conventions, I would call it the Galaxy Watch 5 Plus, or Galaxy Watch5 Ultra if I'm being generous. Battery Its standout feature for the average user is its larger battery, which delivers on battery life. With Always On Display on, Wi-Fi on, Bluetooth on, heart rate measured every 10 minutes, An hour of streaming video played via the Samsung Internet app, Internet browsing, notifications, sleep tracking with snore detection on, using the flashlight a few times, several hours of GPS use (if I had to guess I'd say 3 hours), and 1 hour of working out on the elliptical, I got 2 days and 10 hours of battery life, enough to get 3 nights of sleep tracking because I started wearing it in the evening that I got the watch. So that was night 1. Then I was able to sleep with it for the next 2 nights. The 3rd night was a close call because the watch warned me that my watch won't last the night to sleep track. It was wrong. With normal use: Always On Display off, Wi-Fi on, Bluetooth on, heart rate measured every 10 minutes, no streaming video, light internet browsing (checking up on US Open scores), GPS use (about 3 hours), and 1 hour of working out on the elliptical, I got 2 days and 23 hours. So I would say it's safe to use intensively to still last you the day without the slightest worry of needing a charge. Charging the watch takes a little over one hour using the stock charging puck. However, charging it with the Samsung Duo charger takes about 4 hours. Evidently, the Duo charger doesn't take advantage of the Watch5 Pro's fast charging. My Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra's reverse charging also charges at the pace of 4 hours for a full charge. Unfortunately, the Watch5 Pro's included watch band, the sports D-band, doesn't play nice with wide/long chargers because of its no-gap style that won't allow the watch to lay flat near the Watch5 Pro itself. The D-band also doesn't opento expose the bottom of the watch like a traditional band. Think of a Rolex watch band. It only opens via the clasp. You can't really push the band aside to expose the bottom of the watch to charge because the material is too stiff. Style and comfort It looks a lot like the Galaxy Watch5 (and Watch4 for that matter) expect that it's thicker, with a raised capacitive bezel. It kind of reminds me of a wrist compass. I think if you're comfortable with wearing G-Shock watches, the thickness of the Galaxy Watch5 Pro will be no problem for you whatsoever. It looks worse in pictures than it actually is on your wrist, however it's going to look awkward on small wrists. Surprisingly, it doesn't feel as heavy as you'd think it would. Opting for titanium over stainless steel surely helped with that. I added a plastic case over the Watch5 Pro and it still doesn't feel that heavy to me. I had no issues sleeping with it like others have, so your mileage may vary. I found the sports D-band too bulky and restrictive to my liking. It feels comfortable, but I guess the magnet adds weight, and it's very inconvenient to adjust the size on the fly since it's designed to set it up to a fixed size similar to the typical d-band style watch band with metal links. Fortunately, you can replace the watch band with most 20mm watch bands. Durability Unlike the regular Watch5 which has an aluminum body, the Watch5 Pro uses a titanium body so it's more durable. I accidentally brushed my Watch5 Pro against the metal door handle at a Planet Fitness as I was exiting and I panicked. But when I checked my watch, there were no scratches. So it survived that test. Like the regular Watch5, it also uses a sapphire crystal display. After a week's use I haven't found any scratches on it. The raised bezel prevents it from being a point of accidental contact. I have found the display to be kind of a fingerprint magnet though. Software The Watch 5 Pro comes with One UI version 4.5 which is based on WearOS 3.5, the latest iteration of both. Google Assistant comes preinstalled, but Samsung's own Bixby is still available. You can configure the top button's press and hold function to be assigned to either. Google Maps can give you turn-by-turn navigation but only via driving, walking, or cycling. Transit directions are still notably absent and will need to be done from your phone to appear on the Watch5 Pro. Many watchfaces allow the use of "complications" which are like widgets. For example, I use Samsung's My Photo+ watchface where not only do I use my own pictures, but I have the Battery %, Timer, Date and Weather, and Alarm complications set up. If I want to start a timer, I tap on the timer complication on my watchface and set the timer. Then on my watchface I can see the timer counting down in real time. The same goes with my alarm. I can set it up from my watchface then see the countdown from my watchface. It's extremely convenient. Health tracking It has everything the Watch 4 had: ECG, Stress, Body Composition. And it also still doesn't have blood pressure in the US. It can track your heart rate continously, where you can see what your current heart rate is in real time from the watch's heart rate panel, but you can't see the real time measurements graphed in the Samsung Health app. Instead it will show the range of your heart rate over a period of time. There is a temperature sensor on the Watch 5 series, but it hasn't been enabled yet. There is no word or even the slightest hint of when this feature will be enabled. It may be enabled close to the release of the Galaxy Watch 5's successor, the way Google Assistant became available on the Watch 4 short months before the announcement of the Watch 5. "Pro" features So aside from the larger battery, the features Samsung sets aside exclusively for the Watch 5 Pro to label it "Pro" are: -Routes: where you upload a GPX file of your route for turn-by-turn navigation. It explains the easiest way to upload a GPX file, which is to get it from your previous hikes or cycling tracked exercises from the Samsung Health app. So you will have to have gone through the route previously. But there are other ways to get a GPX file. You'll want to research that on your own because I won't have enough space in this review to explain them. -Track back: which is basically an extension of Routes. It's only available on the Hiking and Cycling exercises, and accessible from the exercise's options (gear icon) after you start the exercise. You won't want to start Track back until you reach the point in your route where it's time for you to turn back to your starting point. My issue with this is that it's like the crumbs of Hansel and Gretel, it will give you the same route you took to get there but in reverse. So if you were cycling in one-way traffic, this feature can be useless. And that's it. These are very niche features, and for the more seasoned adventurer, these Pro features may be lacking compared to the competition that were designed for the outdoors with longer battery life than the Watch 5 Pro. There's just way too little from the Watch 5 Pro to differentiate itself to be called a "Pro". Everything I love about the Watch5 Pro is available on the regular version. The biggest distinguisable feature is the longer lasting battery. It all comes down to your use case. If battery life was a problem for you with a smartwatch, the Watch5 Pro is definitely for you, and if you don't mind its thicker look, you'll love it. But for everyone else skip the Watch5 Pro. The Watch6 should have the worthy features to differentiate it from the standard Watch5 because the Watch5 Pro doesn't.

Best Galaxy Watch Ever
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 carries over the simplified yet attractive appearance of the Watch 4 (non-Classic), while making incremental yet valuable improvements where it counts Externally, the lightweight aluminum body features a simple design with a flat, round face, just 2 buttons on the right side, and a common lug design giving you access to a plethora of bands. The included band, made of fluoroelastomer, has a soft touch and is quite comfortable. The 44mm display features the same 450x450 resolution as the Watch 4 and has plenty of brightness, making it easily visible in broad daylight. However, this year the screen is protected by Sapphire glass which should bring a significant improvement in protection. On the back of the watch, the sensor array includes the familiar heart rate, ECG, and blood-oxygen sensors but has been expanded this year to include a new IR temperature sensor. In the future, this new sensor could be used to help with things like sickness tracking. Internally, the watch continues to rely on the same Exynos W920 processor as the Watch 4 as well as carrying over the same 1.5GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. The battery, however, has been upgraded to a new, larger 410mAh unit with an advertised 50hr of usage. Charging is also improved with 10W WPC (Wireless Power Consortium) charging that can give you enough juice to get through a work day with only 8 minutes on the magnetic USB-C puck. Software wise, the watch is running Wear OS 3.5 with Samsung's One UI Watch 4.5 sitting on top. The merger of Samsung and Android Wear continues to be a match made in heaven. Gone are the days where, if you paired a Samsung watch with a non-Samsung phone, you were unable to use things like NFC payments. Now, with access to the whole Google Play ecosystem, you have a much broader pool of apps available. Specs and numbers aside, the watch performs beautifully. Setup is easy to step through both with Samsung phones (tested with a Galaxy S21) as well as non-Samsung phones (tested with a Pixel 6). Flipping through tiles is smooth and stutter free. Notifications appear instantly and offer a lot of customizability for what does and doesn’t appear. Battery life has more than easily gotten through a day, which is all I honestly need as I charge every night. Health features like step counting and heart rate are comparable to that of the Fossil Gen 6 I was using beforehand. If I have any complaint here at all, its that the bulge of the sensor array on the back of the watch is…awkward. The phone really ends up sitting high on my wrist and can collect dust and dirt between my arm and the watch when doing things like working outside. At the end of the day, if you’re currently sporting a Watch 4, the incremental improvements to the Watch 5 mean you can probably skip this update. But if you’re looking for your first smartwatch or upgrading something older, you really can’t go wrong with this watch. With almost exclusive (currently) access to Wear OS 3, the larger battery, faster charging, and the stronger Sapphire glass display, the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 is not just the best Galaxy Watch to date but probably the best Android Wear OS watch ever.

Great Watch
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I haven't worn a watch since cell phones came out because really all they did was tell time and I had the time right on my phone. But after trying out this Samsung - Galaxy Watch5 and all of it's features, I am back in the watch game. First of all this watch is an extension of your phone. I have a Samsung S22 which made setup a breeze. I just turned on the watch and it connected with my phone automatically and walked me through the setup process. With the watch I can do all the things that I can do on my phone. Place and receive calls, Text, listen to music, open apps, and use navigation. It's like having your phone right on your wrist. Just swipe right for notifications, left for health apps, down for settings and up for apps. Very simple. As I said, setup is easy and when I put the phone on my wrist I noticed that it was a bit heavy but not overly weighted. It feels very comfortable on my wrist and the strap is rubbery so it doesn't pinch like some bands. The glass is made of sapphire crystal so I feel safe wearing the watch at work and not worry about scratches. The face is large enough to read texts and notifications easily and the home screen is customizable. You can choose from dozens of faces from analog to digital clocks and from animals to flowers to dashboards with lots of info on them. The feature that sold me on the watch is the built in health and wellness apps. Just swipe right to see your steps and active time for the day. You can even program your own exercises into the watch to track those activities. Also you can get biometric readings like heart rate, blood pressure, EKG and stress levels from sensors on the back of the watch. The most important to me is the tracking of your sleep. It will tell you how long you slept, and what type of sleep you got. Light sleep, deep sleep REM are some of the stages of sleep it tracks for you. Also if you enable snore tracking on your phone it will tell you how often you snore at night. The battery life has not been an issue for me. The Galaxy Watch5 last me all day and night. I keep it on while I sleep to get my sleep report. It comes with a wireless charger which will top up your battery to 100% in less then an hour. I just lay my watch on my Samsung S22 and enable wireless power sharing to get a quick charge while getting ready in the morning. I would say if you had a full charge and used the watch until completely empty you would get a full day and half out of it. The Galaxy Watch5 is very comfortable to wear 24-7and with the ability to do pretty much everything your phone does I don't ever see taking it off unless a quick charge is needed.

WOW, this is an upgrade in battery!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This watch is for sure the one to get out of the watches they have right now. It has the best hardware, and battery life of anything they offer. I workout daily, and I'm pretty active for my age. This watch is great for that purpose, those that are somewhat more active than others. I have the Watch4, and it's great. However, it does not compare in battery life to this watch by a long shot. When I use my Watch4, I sometimes keep power saving on. This watch has beat that experience, and no power saving needed. I like the design of this watch, but it a little on the big size. I'm a big guy, so I like it. However, ladies you might want to go check it out in person first to test fit it. I banged up my Watch4 a few times, and it took a hit on the side. This watch is titanium, so I should be good in that area. It has the same size screen as my 4, and same internal specs nearly in every way. However, the ban on the watch is different. It might take some getting used to, and it uses a different clasp to keep it on your wrist. I'm still getting used to it as of right now. You can buy another ban though, as this is 20mm...so it's pretty standard that you would be able to find a more traditional ban if you want to. Overall, I like it...and it's for sure an upgrade on battery, that is the main thing i wanted. I got it. Only con so far, is that it did not auto pickup my workout this morning, my watch4 does it every time I workout. It did not record anything. Also had a little trouble reading my pressure. I'm sure this will resolve itself. Buy this one over the Watch5 if you need battery, and better hardware on the outside.

Great smartwatch for everyday
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had this smartwatch for over a week and so far it is what I had hoped it would be. For me it is a nice size and the included band is very comfortable. The watch has a nice look and seems like it will hold up well. The new OS is great. It's easy to navigate and the battery life is amazing. I have a different android watch from last year and this battery lasts at least twice as long (the old watch is an LTE model but I turn that off a lot). The updated OS also feels faster and has more useable apps. In regard to apps I feel like this watch would work smoother if paired with a Samsung phone but it works with my older android well. There are a number of Samsung fitness apps that I didn't look into but my fiancé has on her phone and seem like if you use them it would be a nice addition to the app. The screen is nice and bright. The touch is responsive and easy to maneuver. I hope it holds up to scratches well but thankfully haven't had to test that yet. I do feel like I could have used the upgrade to the Pro model for some of the outdoor apps, but if you don't need the outdoor stuff or want the smaller size watch this watch would be great. In regard to the size, this watch fit me nicely as a larger guy. My fiance is average size and the watch is definitely big on her wrist. She would need the 40mm model and that would probably be on the larger side of comfortable. Overall this is a great watch with a much improved OS that you should definitely check out. Just do your research on if the regular or Pro model is worth it, I don't think either one would be a bad choice.

Nice watch!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a nice watch. Is it worth the upgrade? Well, that depends on what you are coming from. It is a lot like the Galaxy4 but I truly enjoy the differences. They are enough that I want to wear the watch daily, however, I work where I use my hands and could bang the watch on metal beams and sharp items every day. The Galaxy5 Pro has a 1mm larger screen and a much larger battery. The first is not all that noticeable but the second is. The watch is much thicker and grabs your attention right away. But, if you are accustomed Samsung, when the watch is in place, you dont really notice the difference at all. The screen is sharp, colors are vivid and the watch glass is noticeably stronger (I already scratched my Watch4). This watch is definitely geared toward the health and sports crowd with many apps to help you track and stay fit. I only use the sleep portion so I am not able to speak towards the health apps. The ability to scroll by running your finger along the outside bezel is a nice touch. The raised lip also provides a little protection but the aesthetics is more here. Not a huge fan of the watch band, it works good, I just like my old fashioned style. The boot up time is noticeably longer even though it is the "same" Wear OS. Battery life is amazing, I usually get about 3 days out of it. Overall, nice watch, especially if you coming from an older Samsung watch. Well done, Samsung.
