Battery life for days. Great upgrade to the line!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am upgrading from the Galaxy Watch 3 to the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro. I was a little nervous going from Tizen to Wear OS but I am definitely happy I did. Something about Wear OS just feels more fluid and smoother. Overall Samsungs interface intertwine with Wear OS is a very nice touch. Battery on the watch is phenomenal. I typically can get 3 day use out of a single charge and that is before the watch battery adapts to how I use it. The sleep tracking is very spot on and you can even select an option to record how long your snoring while sleeping. I find this useful as I fear I may suffer from sleep apnea so this is a great tool to help me better identify how serious my symptoms of it may be or if I'm just a bad snorer and nothing more. Fitness wise, I go to the gym almost everyday. My treadmills at my gym has the ability to connect the watch to it, which works seamless and keeps track of my progress on the treadmill. One thing I really really like is the watch will give me a report of my heart rate and how much time my heart rate was at a certain rate during a specific time period. For example, it tells me that my heart rate was in a range for 11-12 minutes of weight control. I take this as my heart rate was going at a pace that helped burn fat better. Overall, I really like the design of this watch. I was worried I'd miss the physical dial rotation on it but the touch sensitive one works just fine. The strap is unbelievable comfortable too. Hands down one of the best watch straps I've used on any smart watch. I know there is so much more this watch can do that I haven't hit on, it's advertised to be a great outdoor watch for hiking and trails, but I haven't had a chance to test this out yet, I have no doubt it'll work great for this purpose though. I am glad I jumped on this watch and it goes great with my Galaxy Fold 4. Strongly recommend this watch for any Samsung/Android user.

mostly great but why get rid of the physical dial?
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Pro - mostly great, but why get rid of the physical rotating bezel / dial? This is a big watch. Just keep that in mind, especially if you are a woman. The watch also feels a bit heavier than most other watches on your wrist. I happen to love the watch size, having always liked G-Shock sized watches before getting smart watches of any kind. This watch is THICK, I guess for that bigger battery, and new health sensor designs, but the thickness actually feels fine for me, and only noticeable when off your wrist. It comes with a really great new magnetic buckle strap. It takes a few tries to get to fit perfectly, but once it does it provides the best fit I have ever had on any smart watch ever. I didn’t have to mess with it once I got it set right. This kept the stellar fitness tracking functions working much better than my previous smart watch. There are a few more fitness related features on this 5 Pro model, including something called track back, which helps if you are out walking and want to go back to exactly the same starting point you came from. The fantastic large screen is great for looking at the map, haptic feedback which feels great, and turn by turn directions to get you back to your starting location. This is a great function while out walking in the woods, where there might be no real walking path for example. Notifications are a dream on this watch. Very fast, and love the feedback vibration, and haptic feedback just feels great. Glad they put in a big battery as this would really drain a smaller battery down much faster I would imagine. I was able to make a few phone calls directly through the watch microphone and speaker, and it works very well, especially if you have your hands full and want to take a call without holding your phone. My only real con on this Watch 5 pro. I have had a Galaxy Watch 4 classic, which is a great watch all around, but always had bad battery life. But, that watch had a physical bezel on it. That physical bezel just FEELS good. It is responsive, it works great. This new Watch 5 pro, is virtually the same spec wise as the Watch 4 classic, with the Watch 5 Pro having a much larger capacity battery and better for those tracking fitness activities and a much more rugged design. But, this new Watch 5 Pro has gotten rid of the physical bezel, and gone back to an inferior touch screen bezel. This isn’t that bad, however the physical bezel was the best, and it baffles me why they got rid of it. If you use this watch for fitness, and your hands are sweaty it becomes much less accurate to use. This is a big downgrade if you are coming from any of the previous Galaxy watches that had a rotating bezel on an otherwise stellar watch, especially when this watch is significantly more expensive, unless you really need all the other fitness and health upgrades and large capacity battery. For me, this watch strikes a good balance between a great smartwatch and a great fitness tracker. This is my favorite smartwatch so far, but please bring back the rotating physical bezel in future versions samsung.

||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Battery Life isn't as strong as expected. Have problems with some features such as getting notification on the watch and connecting to my Google accounts. Doesn't seems to be a huge difference with Galaxy Watch 4. The Galaxy Watch 5 Charge is different from other Galaxy watch and requires an extra cable to purchase.

Latest & Greatest
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Every summer into the fall season Samsung releases a new iteration of their Galaxy devices ranging from the more recent foldables, the traditional candy bar style phones and the wearables. I recently picked up the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro I wanted to see what Samsung had created being that I am an avid user of the brand. As far as wearables go, I first got into them when I first purchased the Galaxy Gear S3 Classic way back in 2016. The sleek clean look is what drew me in. I then replaced my Gear S3 with the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic in 2021. I have been using Samsung watches for a little more than six years. :::Initial Impressions::: Upon opening the box, you will find the watch itself the new clasp style band and a small magnetic USB Type C wireless charging dock. Figuring out the clasp mechanism took me about a minute to figure out. It is adjustable but not in the traditional sense like a double clasp watch the mechanism is magnetic and is solid and doesn’t come undone at all. I typically get the Grey or Silver like watches but opted for the Black variation this time around and it looks great. I was really surprised with the fact that Samsung yet again is trying to do away with the Rotating bezel. I found it to be a distinctive feature that was unique to Samsung and it was more than a convenience but more on that later in the review. :::General Thoughts::: Depending on who you ask as whole the Galaxy Watches have taken a few steps back and some forward throughout the release of each watch. I saw what the watches used to do and can do and, in that sense, there are more obvious changes that were made from a design and software perspective. For those coming from a legacy Tizen OS device this will be quite the change because the Wear OS software had only recently been adopted by Samsung with the previous generation Watch 4 Series of smartwatches being the first devices that Samsung offered with Wear OS. There are differences between the two operating systems but the biggest advantage Tizen “had” over Wear OS was battery life. Tizen was optimized over the years to have outstanding battery life and that has mostly been the Achilles Heel of Wear OS along with a lack of support from software developers. In all reality the same could be said about Tizen with the lack of popular apps that one would find on competing platforms like Apple. But a watch’s worth is measured by the owner. :::Battery & Design::: One of the main features of the GW5 Pro is the battery life. And after my testing I have been able to get through three days of use which is what was expected of the Tizen OS devices. But then again not everyone uses their device like I do so YMMV. When I do use my watch for fitness purposes then I will get close to two days of battery life. I like to use my watch for sleep tracking, fitness and for notifications and phone calls. Fitness tracking was a cinch previously thanks to the rotating bezel. I find myself frustrated at the gym sometimes because I forget that there is no physical rotating bezel. It is still there but it is now digital and it does work well it is more a muscle memory reaction having used a watch with a rotating bezel for six years or so. In fact, I believe the design of the pro is for those who had previously been used to the rotating bezel. Compare the standard watch 5 to the Pro and you will see the design difference because the outer ring is elevated on the pro as where there are very slim bezels on the standard 5. Sleep tracking, I can’t notice any improvements or with fitness. I do not use the GPS feature on my watch because I find it to be confusing having to find and load GPX files it isn’t cut and dry like using GPS on your phone is but that may be different with the LTE version of the watch. I really tried to figure it out and I was frustrated with that. I manually use Maps on my phone and then track my bike rides through the watch with the aid of my phone. That is my preferred method and it is a whole lot easier for me. Design wise I am not really a fan of the plain look of the GW5 pro I really loved the design of the Classic line of watches. My solution to that is simple I kept my GW4 Classic and use that when I am going out with my wife for a night out on the town or have an important meeting to attend. Otherwise, my GW5 pro is my main watch. I long retired my Gear S3 I just can’t get rid of it because it looks great. :::Pros & Cons::: Pros 1. Large display 2. Improved battery life 3. Rugged 4. New magnetic clasp strap Cons: 1. Bland design 2. Really miss the rotating bezel :::Closing thoughts::: I really would have preferred that Samsung make a base, classic and pro watch which would offer something for everyone. I know that in time I will get used to not using the bezel but I really prefer the look and feel of the classic. I would need more time to figure out how to find and upload GPX files it just seems like a lot of work just to track your workout I do not see the purpose yet. Maybe in time I will but as of now I just won’t. :::TL;DR::: Samsung is trying something new here and I like the direction this is headed in but taking away a loved product and then not offering an alternative isn’t cool. I am hoping next year we see the return of the classic people like myself own more than one watch it is a missed opportunity. Overall, this is a solid device but I don’t quite see what is so pro about it. Go try it out for yourself if you like Smartwatches and need the latest and greatest.
