Not what I expected
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Too bulky. I was hoping that the newer watch would have been smaller and better. No real difference from the last watch and very pricey for what you get.

The best of the best
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Pro - Black BT The Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Pro is a large watch, but no larger than the watch it replaced, a Samsung Galaxy Watch SM-R800. I have is paired to a Galaxy S22 Ultra. There are 2 things I don’t like. 1, the watch band does not allow the watch to fit my wrist without standing off because it is curved out away from the watch. 2, I have a simple digital face that’s always on. When the watch goes to dim mode the color of the digital face changes from my selected color to a light grey color. This may be a power saving function, but I cannot find a solution to this yet. That’s really the end of the things I don’t like but can totally live with. Accessories for the watch are few and far between at this point. I had to modify a charging stand for a series 4 watch and use double stick tape to put the correct charger on it so I can just place the watch on a stand to charge. Both the charging stand and watch bands will get better in a few moths when other vendors get up to speed with this watch. The watch is amazing with the number of options it can give. Health options are near perfect except the blood oxygen sensor, that if off by at least 8% no matter where I put the watch on my wrist. My Oxy meter says my level is 98%, the best the watch will do it 90%. Other health functions work as expected. NFC with the watch is perfect, the only issues I’ve had with it has been caused by the cashier not completely understanding what they need to do. I get an “oops, wait a second, try again” while they do something on their register. I like the face/body of the watch because it protects the glass face with a raised metal bezel, just like my old watch. For the time being I have replaced the band with a cheap Milanese band that allows the watch to set flat on my wrist. I will be looking for a better brand of watch band in the near future, but like I said, few and far between. There are a lot of Pro 5 accessories that say they fit, only to find out they don’t really fit correctly, this will get better. Battery life has been good. I get at least 3 days on a single charge. I used to get a week off the other watches charge, but it had way fewer sensors. I’m completely happy with 3 days, my wife only gets 1 day from her watch, it’s the other top brand. If you don’t mind, or more to the point you want a large watch, you can’t go wrong with this one. They also have an LTE version, but I did not want or need that since I never leave the house without both the watch and my phone.

Not worth it

Excellent!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Highly recommended. I ordered mine directly from Samsung and received it 4 days ago. I ordered mine with the Sports band, so I can't speak to the magnetic band that it comes with. With the case being titanium, the watch is very light. Absolutely no issues at all. missing the rotating bezel really is not that big of a deal. It just takes a little getting used to. So far it is a great watch!!

Better than the Watch4 but could be better
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had previous generation Galaxy Watches and have been left wanting more with all of them for a variety of reasons. This Watch5 has a lot of improvements but feel it could use some polish in some areas. Pros: Battery life - they claim up to 50 hours of battery life and with the out of the box settings, I can easily get that and sometimes more. If I track a lot of outdoor activities that can drop below two days but that's to be expected using GPS. Design - I am a sucker for the design of Samsung watches and the same can be said for the Watch5 - its simple, elegant, and sporty, all in one. This is probably the reason I keep on trying Galaxy Watches. Display - its stunning just like all Samsung displays. And the touchscreen is really good too where it's predictable and responsive. The interface is snappy where there's little to no delay getting around WearOS. Cons: Heart rate accuracy - the heart rate readings are quite hit and miss where sometimes I get OK results but then other times its way off, and I understand how to wear a watch to get accurate heart rate (a bit higher on the wrist above the wrist bone and snug). This has been a pain point for me for 3 generations now of Galaxy Watches. They say the heart rate sensor is improved wit the Watch5 but I'm not so sure. Waiting for GPS - on some occasions I can get a GPS signal somewhat quickly within around 5-10 seconds but sometimes up to 5 minutes. Again, a pain point for me from previous Samsung watches. Overall thoughts: To me this seems like just a battery life improvement over the Watch4, which to be honest is welcome considering I was only getting around a day from the previous generation. Two days isn't stellar compared to some other watches on the market but doubling the battery life is a big deal. With all that, I realize it was definitely critical but it's still one of the best smartwatches you can get if you have an Android phone. It has great connectivity, the display is incredible, and the do an amazing job with their design.

Great Health Monitor and Stylish Watch
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Galaxy Watch5 is a pretty amazing watch. It is designed around complete wellness and monitors everything from steps, exercise, food, water, sleep, heart rate, stress, body composition, blood oxygen and even stress level. The charger is a round charging disk so it's easy to distinguish from all the other chargers in the house. Once charged, it stays charged for about 2 days. I had some issues initially with some of the readings not being accurate, such as oxygen saturation, but I've found that if I wear it a little tighter (but still comfortable), the readings are more accurate. I was going to deduct one star rating because the ECG monitor does not work and I can't get my earbuds to pair with it, but there are so many other features that I decided it's not worth a one star deduction. Besides health related apps, you can also perform daily functions like check email, text, look up contacts, check the news, weather... all pretty amazing for a watch. Plus you can change the watch faces by selecting from a large amount of both digital and analog styles. I'm still learning about all the features available, but use it daily for my health monitoring and to see text and phone call notifications. An extremely good quality watch that is comfortable too.

Great all-around smart watch; but few new features
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The decision on whether to buy the new Galaxy Watch 5 hinges entirely on what you have now. If you already own the last generation Galaxy Watch 4, you can probably sit back and wait to see what Samsung comes up with next year. There are not enough differences in the new model to justify an investment in the Galaxy Watch 5. It's looks almost identical, is powered by the same chip, with the same memory, has the same case design and is held on by the same silicone strap as last year's model. But if you have a watch that is older older (or are buying a smart watch for the first time) , and you also happen to use a modern Samsung phone (some watch functions are limited without one), the Galaxy Watch 5 has a lot going for it. There are two signifcant improvements over last year's model: A battery that has 15 percent more power, providing up to two days of runtime on one charge (44mm model) ; and a more durable sapphire crystal, which replaces last year's Gorilla Glass crystal. That's important since the watch has no elevated ridge around the crystal to protect it from everyday bumps and scratches. There is a third new feature: a temperature sensor. But Samsung has not activated it yet so it might as well not be there, for now. Rumor is it could eventually be useful in improving sleep tracking, as well as monitoring fevers. But Samsung apparently needs government approval for some of that. One assumes future firmware updates will eventually bring this new sensor into the mix. Similar issues delayed the availability of the ECG functionality in last year's watch. (It is also capable of measuring blood pressure but that function still is not available in the U.S. for regulatory reasons.) Those moving up from older Samsung watches will also be happy to hear the upgrade process has been made almost entirely painless now, if you happen to have a modern Samsung phone. Your phone sees the watch as soon as you turn it on, asks if you want to pair it, downloads any necessary software and quickly walks you through the setup process. That includes copying all your apps, data and settings from your older Samsung watch to the new one. Very easy. As before, the Wear app controls most watch functions and setup, although all exercise and health tracking is handled through Samsung's excellent comprehensive Health app. If you are entirely new to the Samsung Watch world, prepare to be impressed. This watch probably does a lot more than you think, including automatically tracking time, steps, distance, heartbeat, route and elevation changes during several dozen exercise routines;, automatically tracking sleep , as well as providing sleep coaching. It also keeps tabs on your heartbeat 24/7; produces an electrocadiogram on demand; measures your blood oxygen levels while you are awake and asleep; and provides a detailed body mass index report on demand. There's optional voice coaching associated with most exercises. You can also take phone calls with just the watch (it has its own microphone and speaker), receive and send texts, and control your music and ear buds. Of course it also handles a long list of time functions, with alarms, timers, world clock, etc. And it comes with a nice variety of highly customizable watch faces in both analog and digital formats. More are available in the Play Store. Since one its main functions is to monitor exercise, this watch is built to deal with the elements, take a beating and keep on going. It has IPX 68 rating which means its going to keep out dirt and can be completely submerged in water, up to 160 feet deep for several minutes, much longer at lesser depths. Fine for swimming, one of the exercises it tracks. This is my third Samsung watch and I can honestly report they have mostly gotten better with each new generation. Like many users, I was unhappy when Samsung dropped the rotating bezel, which was used to to navigate all the apps and data on your watch. But you can accomplish the same thing by swiping the screen or using the virtual bezel (run your fingertip around he edge of the screen). This one seems the best of the bunch, even if it is only an incremental improvement over last year's model.

Perfect if in the Samsung Universe
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have used many different smartwatches over the years. I get very picky about style and functions and this watch ticks ALMOST all the boxes. My last two watches had a deep integration with Google Fit that is not here on this watch without some work. By default everything goes into Samsung Health and I'm not complaining about that. It is an excellent platform. I just wish Samsung Health and Google Fit would talk. This watch has all the functions I need and a few I didn't know I needed. I struggled to get Samsung Pay to work but that wasn't a deal breaker for me as I limit my contactless payments. The built-in watch faces are really good, but you can use WearOS watch faces as well. That is how I solved the issue of the two health platforms not talking. I found a watch face that could talk to Google Fit and then the watch still sent data to Samsung Health. Notifications work as you would expect them to with a few different options if you want sound, just vibration, light up the screen, etc. I loved the ability to use the watch as a speakerphone, didn't know I wanted that until I tried it. Finally, Battery life for me has been excellent. I played with it a lot the first few days and it still has lasted 4 days on a charge. That is the best I have ever had on a full smartwatch since my old Pebble Time watch.

good battery life, less good strap
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This isn't my first smartwatch, and it isn't even my first galaxy watch. It holds its own against the competition and is a decent improvement on earlier models. The case is reasonably sized, and there isn't a whole lot of dead space between the edge of the display and the edge of the screen. The case of the watch is barely noticeable beyond the screen, and the black color makes it disappear even more. The band that comes with the watch is lacking, though. I do like the way it integrates with the lugs and matches the case shape, but it sticks out too far from the sides of the watch for people with normal-sized wrists (mine is 6.75" for you watch nerds). It does stick out less as the band gets broken in, but there's still too much of a gap between the strap and my wrist near the lugs. The strap material is comfortable enough, and I appreciate the way the tail of the strap tucks under itself after the buckle. But it could and should fit better. The lugs are a standard 20mm, so aftermarket straps should fit fine, but I didn't try any on this particular model. I was using this watch with a MS Surface Duo 2, and it paired fine, though I did have to download a plugin for the Samsung Wear app for it to work with this model. The watch faces that come pre-downloaded worked fine, though I could never get it to download additional faces. It always had problems "making the network connection." I did try the Facer app to load additional faces onto the watch, and that worked okay, but it seemed to have problems loading data other than the time and date onto the watch faces (like weather, heart rate, etc.). It may have been an issue with app permissions. Battery life was excellent. I wore it for 28 hours, including two (automatically detected) workouts, overnight (in sleep mode), and with the always-on display active, and there was still 30% of the battery left. You can easily get a full day out of this watch, and if you were using it less actively during that time, you might squeeze two days out between charges. It did a good job of importing previous settings from my Samsung profile, including Samsung Health settings. One new thing I tried out was the body composition detection. It came out fairly close to what my fancy floor scale tells me. Overall, a nice improvement on the previous generation, but not without a couple of minor flaws.

Best Smart Watch Ive Owned
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have no complaints about this watch. I've owned an Apple Watch, and a fitbit Versa for a good length of time. The battery life is better than any I've had. Seems like Samsung has listened to more customer feedback than other smart watch company. Very customizable on the screen itself, even with the color palette, the apps you want on your watch, and ease of access for what you need to do for the moment with your watch. A worthy buy.

Love the functions
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro (bluetooth version) at Best Buy. I am impressed by its functions. I have used the sleep monitor to view my sleep patterns, and I will be able to use the pattern history to help me find ways to get better sleep. I use Samsung health to monitor my activity. The watch connects seamlessly with the Samsung Health app on my Galaxy Z Fold 4. I especially like using Google Home from my watch to control my homes smart bulbs and zoned smart thermostats. Battery life has been very good. I easily get over two days from a full charge. I have charged it from 60% to 100% in 48 minutes. I was skeptical of the usefulness of a Smartwatch, but this has won me over.
