I have a Apple Watch and I love the watch but not the phone. I also have a android phone and was looking for a watch to go with it. After purchasing the Samsung watch I was very disappointed. I guess this is why best buy has a $45 restocking fee for a return of the watch. Samsung do better!!!

Upgrading from a Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 to the new Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 pro and I am happy to say that I am extremely pleased! I have used the new Watch 5 pro now for 4 days and the battery life is 30-40% better than the Watch 4. I have had almost every iteration of the Galaxy Watch series and was always wanting just a little bit more…. better screen, more rugged design, longer battery life, more health monitoring…etc. I was always trying to compare this to the latest fruit product. This week, I can finally say that I have finally found the watch to meet my needs and compare with the competitor! Unboxing this product showed a much more robust packaging that the Galaxy Watch 4. It came with the watch, charging pad/cable and instructions. Nothing especially special but functional. As I was upgrading from the Watch 4, there was no need to use the charging pad as it is the same in every way. I’ll keep the new one in a safe place in case I lose the other. Using the Galaxy Wear app on my One plus phone I was easily able to remove my Galaxy Watch 4, add the 5 Pro and switch my LTE plan (t-mobile) from the 4 to the 5 Pro within 2 minutes. Everything was up and running within 10 minutes of unboxing. Pros 1. Beautiful AMOLED screen and love the titanium bezel, slightly raised to the point that I will not put a protector on the sapphire glass – it would be hard to scratch it or hit it without a direct blunt force hit. 2. Size is perfect and I was concerned that this would be a bit too large in both width and thickness but placing my watch 4 on top of the 5 Pro showed the to be the same size in width for the most part. Thickness on the 5 Pro is 1.5mm more, considerable, yes, noticeable, not so much. At 5 foot 10 this fit perfectly. 3. Battery life is looking to be about 3 days based on my usage. 4. Ease of adding apps such as Google Assistant, Spotify, YouTube Music…. all easy and work flawlessly with my accounts. Cons 1. The watch band included that has the magnetic clasp closure is, well, not great. Hard to dial in to the correct fit and not the easiest to charge when it is taken off. Watch charger is the flat disc. Watch with the included strap on is circular. Reminds me of the movie Apollo 13 – need to fit a circular CO2 scrubber in a square hole. Just does not work well. I immediately changed out the strap to a generic after-market strap and works perfectly. The original strap also does not allow the watch to lay flat and close to the wrist due to the rigidity and the aftermarket one for $5 dollars – perfect. Same problem with the Watch 4 regarding the close fit so not a big deal breaker as it is a cheap fix and some may enjoy that type of rigid fit that the watch comes with. 2. Unfortunately, Google Pay (now Google Wallet) does not have functionality yet for the 5 series (and never did not work on my Watch 4 either despite my best attempts – and yes tried everything including tech support – they could not figure it out either). Thankfully Samsung Pay works on my non-Samsung phone/watch and I can pay easily at NFC terminals with the 5 Pro (as I could with my Watch 4). Overall, I can say that this is a worthy upgrade with only minor issues to deal with, likely to improve with updates. I recommend this highly.

I had expectations for this watch based on my having an earlier version of a Galaxy Watch. Based on those expectations and knowing what features were possible for this watch, I was somewhat disappointed with this Galaxy Watch 5 Pro LTE. Let me get those missing features out of the way first. The biggest issue I have is that this watch does not have a built-in GPS, you have to be connected to your phone to record route and distance information when using the Samsung Health running, hiking, etc app, or to use the Google Map app. That was not the case with my previous Galaxy watch - I could leave my phone behind and still record route and distance information when running or hiking. Two other features this watch lacks are a rotating bezel, which I found to be a better alternative than swiping in many cases; and there's somewhat reduced functionality of some apps such as calendar - you can only view the current month, you can't forward to the next or future months like I could on my previous Galaxy watch. Now some good features of this watch. It has Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and NFC connectivity. For those unfamiliar, NFC enables the use of Samsung Pay, so you can use your watch like a credit card with tap to pay, and it works without having to be connected to your phone. That's probably my favorite feature of the watch, I use it all the time. The LTE capability is nice but before you rush out to buy the watch for the LTE make sure your carrier supports it as not all carriers do. The Samsung Health app is great. You can track and record all kinds of the health metrics like sleep, heart rate, oxygen, steps, and workouts to name a few. The Music app and Bluetooth allows playing music through earbuds or other Bluetooth devices without being connected to your phone. Reminders and Events are two other useful apps I use all the time. The watch band is a big improvement over the old-fashioned tang buckle with adjustment holes on the strap. This one uses an adjustable folding closure with a magnetic clasp. You can size it just right (you only have to do that once, then it's set, but it can be changed if needed), it's very secure, and it's easy to put on and take off. The battery on this watch has longer life than my previous version. I'm very active and use my watch to record running, hiking, or circuit training on a daily basis. I had to charge my previous Galaxy watch on a daily basis and sometimes it would die before my day was over. This newer version I can go two days before needing to charge it and it has never gone below 50% in a single day. The display is an AMOLED with auto adjusting brightness and sapphire crystal. There are lots of customizable watch faces. It's sharp, bright, easy to read. The bottom line is I would love this watch if I hadn't been spoiled by my previous version that had a little more functionality. This one is high quality, nice looking, loaded with features and lots of useful, practical apps.

Best watch ever! The battery lasts for days, or long enough for those who want always on watch displays. It charges in record time. Those are differences from watch 4.

This actually is a great smartwatch. That is, until you attempt to use some of the features that probably led you to purchase it in the first place. There is a well know and reported design flaw that causes the watch to go into safe mode whenever you use LTE with a weak signal. So, no phone calls. No, music streaming, etc. Unless you have a strong cell signal. If the signal gets weak while you're taking, the watch goes into safe mode and ends the call abruptly. If you're streaming music and hit a weak signal area you get safe mode, Bluetooth headphones disconnect and you have to wait several minutes to use the watch for anything. So imagine you're out for a run and you're tracking your workout and streaming music. All works great until you hit that dreaded dead coverage spot. Then everything stops. You have to start your workout all over again. And you might as well not even try to stream music again. I'm a Samsung fanboy. But I'm an EXTREMELY disappointed after paying $400 for this "upgrade" only to find out it doesn't actually work and that Samsung is well aware of the problem and has done absolutely nothing to resolve it. From what I've read, Samsung will recommend that you shut off all the useful features of the watch as a work-around. Obviously, that's ridiculous. Why did you buy the watch in the first place -- just to tell time? I think not! They will also allow you to send the watch in to be "fixed". But, since they don't actually have a fix, the watches always return just a broken as they were before. Hopefully, Samsung will get their act together and fix this issue. But, it was a problem with the 4 and now with the 5 and they've done nothing. So I'm not holding out any hope!

All the features not working unless different apps are downloaded. The watch is nice looking. The fall detection needs to call back the person of the watch first to make sure it's not a false fall. The ECG are not ready fully, need more work to be ready.

I've had the Samsung Gear S3 Frontier since new and have always loved it. It still performs great, but it was time for an upgrade to access more features. This watch is a little larger than my previous S3 Frontier, but it doesn't feel like it while wearing it. It took me a minute to figure out the band (D-buckle Sport Band). You slide one side into the other and then it latches closed, so it took several times to get the fit just right. The plus side is that once it's set, it will always be set. You just open the clasp and take it off. Put it back on and close the clasp. However, this brings up and interesting problem. The watch comes with the little round charger that magnetically attaches to the back to charge the watch (it doesn't come with the wall plug, just the USB-C to USB-C charging cable). This is fine if you just want to set it on its side and charge it, but a lot of people use wireless chargers that need the watch to lay flat, which you can't do with this band without taking it apart every time you need to charge it. This means each time you would have to get the band back into the perfect position to wear it. This is a feature-rich watch. It can take an ECG, monitor your sleep, track your steps and workouts, check your BMI and stress levels. It has a lot of features for outdoor activities (walking, hiking, biking, etc.). My wife and I go hiking fairly often with our dog, although I haven't had a chance yet to use the GPS features for hiking. It's been raining since I got the watch. It has the ability to use .gpx files for hiking trails and can leave breadcrumbs so that you can always find your way back. After the initial charge I started wearing the watch around the clock. I don't normally wear my watch to bed, but I wanted to test the sleep feature. It tracks the exact time that you slept, how many calories you burned, how long you were awake, how much was REM/light/deep sleep as well as your blood oxygen level and how long you snored. The next morning I used the GPS feature on my trip to work. Before each turn the watch would vibrate to let me know that a turn/exit was coming up and showed it on the watch. The screen is bright and easy to see, even outside. Samsung tried to keep the rotating bezel but instead of it being a physical piece on the watch, you swipe around the outside edge of the screen. It works, but I just miss the actual bezel. There's just something satisfying about rotating an actual bezel that I will always miss. I honestly can't speak to the durability of the screen itself. I haven't hit it on anything yet. Although I can say that my Gear S3 Frontier had many things hit the screen over the years and it doesn't have a single scratch and this glass is supposed to be even tougher than that. Also, the raised edge should help to protect the glass as well. I've been getting about two days of battery life. I've been wearing it 24-hours a day and being new, I've been playing with it a lot. Samsung claims 80 hours of battery life, but I doubt most people will see that. I'm currently at 71% battery and if I were to turn on "Watch Only" mode which turns off everything except the watch face when you press the home key, it shows that I can get 20 days and 5 hours of battery life. At my current rate (everything on: bluetooth, GPS, and screen at full brightness, etc.), it shows I have 2 days and 1 hour left. I'm sure it will get a little better after I've had the watch for a little while and stop playing with it as much, but for me two days is reasonable. Overall, I love it and would definitely recommend it. My only complaint is that they should have put a rotating bezel on it, or at least had that as an option. If I decide to use a wireless charger with this watch, I will just change out the band.
