Below is my experience with the Galaxy Watch 7 from the perspective of a former Galaxy Watch 6 owner. [PROS] Sleek, Solid Design: So Samsung pretty much retained the same design of last year's watch. The watch face is still aluminum with an AMOLED display, and the bands are still using the same removal mechanism. This is actually a good. It allows for previous accessories to be compatible. This falls into the category of "if it's not broke then don't fix it". Quick Charge: Although the battery isn't improved much from last year, the watch does charge efficiently. I'm able to get enough juice to last throughout the day with only 30 minutes of charging. Responsive Processing: The Galaxy Watch 7 bares plenty of similarity to the previous version, but it is much faster in performing different tasks and other actions. I'm able to navigate different apps and toggle through settings much easier than I was able to do before. AI Features: Galaxy AI has enriched my smartwatch experienced by providing deeper insight to health. I find the tips useful and the "grades" for my activities motivational as I continue my wellness journey. The sleep tracking features has been important to me as well given that I did once have a concern of having sleep apnea. [CONS] So-So Battery: The battery does not last all day if there's a lot of processing/computation going on. What I mean is if the Bluetooth and location are on with a dozen background apps running/tracking then I have to recharge the watch in the morning before I get the next day started. [CONCLUSION] The Galaxy Watch 7 is an iterative update that does stand out a bit. It's not groundbreaking, but it's promising with the AI features that are being added. It may not be enough to encourage a Galaxy Watch 6 owner to upgrade, but does cause for a second glance. Overall, I'm pretty happy and content with the Galaxy Watch 7.

I've owned an iteration of a Samsung watch since they started making Gear smart watches. Although calling them a smart watch is a bit of a misnomer as they are rather the opposite on their own. Samsung watches excel at being companions to the Samsung phone ecosystem. I previously owned the 40mm Watch 5 and had that for about 2 years and has been beginning to show its age after daily use. The body of my SW5 had scratches and dings and the glass had some superficial scratches. I'm hoping the sapphire screen on the SW7 fares better than it predecessor but I'm interested in seeing if they improved the body casing to be more durable. Actual watches might show more character or "patina" as they are used and age, but technology doesnt age well. Having a fresh new electronic gadget is always nice. Electronic watches are not meant to be worn for years and years. Speaking of years the SW5 has definitely started to bog down when scrolling thru and opening apps. The SW7 seems much snappier and quick to respond to all my touch inputs. While the SW5 lasted me thru a day with always on display I never kept GPS on. The SW7 definitely has more juice available at the end of the day. I am interested in the sleep tracking features but hate sleeping with a watch on.I am not a workout stud and all of the diffent workout tracking features aren't something that will likey use on a regular basis. But some health related features like measuring stress, heart rate, how much I've moved around that particular day are metrics that I am interested in. From what I've been able to observe everything is improved on the SW7. On the SW5, it would register steps when I wheeled my office chair from my desk to my printer. So far I havent seen that happen on the SW7. I like the new pinch and knock gestures. My pinch gesture open my phone camera and my knock turns on the watch face flashlight which I use on a nearly nightly basis. As mentioned earlier the watch is really a companion peice for your Samsung Galaxy phone. If you are into the Galaxy eco system then this is the watch to get. If you are an iOS user then u get the Apple Watch. Google Pixel, Pixel Watch. You get the picture. As long as I have a Galaxy phone in my pocket I will pair it with a Galaxy Watch.

I’ve tried nearly every Samsung watch going all the way back to the Gear Sport and have been disappointed with every model….until now. The Galaxy Watch 7 is finally the WearOS watch I’ve wanted with longer battery life, better fitness tracking, along with the classy looks of a Galaxy watch. I’ve been a long-time fan of Galaxy watches for the looks but the activity tracking has never been amazing. From sub-par GPS accuracy tracking my runs and bike rides to even less reliable heart rate accuracy, it was hard to actually rely on their previous watches. They may have offered a very robust set of smartwatch features but I want a watch that does both sides well - smarts as well as sports. With the Galaxy Watch 7, I’m finally happy with the fitness and health tracking where the workout tracking is dependable and reliable. Battery life is also a huge win with this generation of Galaxy watch and the efficiency gains with WearOS5 only help it further. It’s easily able to last a couple days vs before where it was maybe a little over a day. There’s much less stress at the end of the day when you want to track your sleep but only discover that you may not have enough battery left to last through the night. The longer battery life certainly helps with that. As a smartwatch, it works seamlessly with my Google Pixel 8 however there’s health features that require a Samsung phone which is a big bummer. ECG is the big one where this only works with Galaxy phones. Samsung obviously wants to sell more phones, just like any other company, but having those features limited to Samsung phones doesn’t put a great taste in my mouth. I’m still pleased with this watch overall but wished all the features were available for all Android phone users, especially since this is a WearOS watch.

Good Watch If Sleep Tracking Is Not A Priority

In the process of testing this watch I used my fitness tracker as a baseline. I have been using a fitness tracker for over tens years now. The setup was pretty straight forward, but it still takes some time. You have to charge the watch before setup. It was tough deciding which apps I wanted to use and which ones where not necessary. I also took some time figuring out which watch face I wanted. I was happy with the one I chose, but I think I might try out some others. I like the convenience of looking at all of my phone notifications on my wrist. The biggest issue I had was that I cannot wear this watch all day to track my steps and my workout and then wear it at night to track my sleep. The battery life prevents this. This forced me to make a decision to only wear this watch on days that I go to the gym and I'm still reconsidering that. Another issue I have is with the bands, they are ugly. I guess that is a way to get people to buy another band. If it came with a better color or even a basic black band, I might wear it more often. When I'm going out I take it off for one of my nicer looking traditional watches. I was never that much of a smart watch person, I always wore a traditional watch and a discreet fitness tracker on the other arm. This Galaxy watch isn't going to get me to abandon my fitness tracker.

This is my third Galaxy smart watch. Prior to this, I had the 5 pro. While similar in some ways, there are also some distinctions. First, I like the profile better- There is no bevel that stands up so this is thinner. The invisible bevel does still allow you to swipe around and move between "pages" but it is very delicate so that it moves too quickly. I prefer to swipe side to side to get to different screens. Secondly, the battery life is MUCH shorter on this version. It could be all the animations and other things it is doing in the background that might be draining it faster than my other watches. I will have to play around and turn things off to see if that helps. I don't really want to turn things off though, these are the reasons I have a smart watch! The sleep app gives me more information. Some of the additions include movement during sleep and more detailed heart and respiratory rates. My sleep suffers so I am always monitoring my patterns. Some of the upgrades (that might be impacting the battery life!) are these cool animation watch faces. They point to the little dot in the 9 location when I have a notification. This way I never miss one! Transferring all my information from my previous Galaxy watch was easy with the wearable app. I just connected the new watch and it was seamless. The bands for my 5 Pro fit this was well so that's another plus. If it were not for the battery life, I would have given this 5 stars. My other watches (when new) would last 2 or more days before needing a charge. This does not even get me through a full day and night.

This watch is packed with a wealth of features and will work with an Android phone running the latest Android versions. It will not work with older Android versions and many of the advanced health functions, such as EKG monitoring, will only work with a Samsung phone. I was able to connect it to a Pixel 7a phone with no issues. You will need to download the Samsung application, as well as a connector application to get notifications on a non-Samsung device. The watch band at first seems rather stiff, but once you put it on it is surprisingly comfortable. The watch is very light and easy to wear all day and night. The display is clear and bright. The default watch faces are clean and display all useful information for daily use. Navigation is easy with the touchscreen, hand gestures and the side buttons. The health functions do an excellent job of tracking exercises such as walking and running. It only takes about an hour to fully charge and the battery last about a day and half with moderate use. The full day charge is with the screen set to always on. The charger connects easily with a magnetic connector. The vibration function works well for notifications and can be supplemented with sound as well. I have been enjoying wearing it and it has become my primary daily smartwatch device.
