It will only alert incoming emails and the weather feature is only a once an hour update not real time. I would return it if that was possible but I have had it for 2 months at this point.

I bought it as a gift but I only see it on her wrist maybe once a week. I tried it a few times and it's good but it's not necessary.

I was looking at all options of smartwatch. I am a huge fan of samsung and really liked the design of the Gear 2. Now, I didn't run and buy this, my wife saw me looking at them online and went out on her own. Now, I'm very thankful she did. It allowed me to get to play with one. I'm not going to go into specs and things like that because there are a million reviews online.
First, decide what you want. I liked all the features i was seeing online, they were awesome. Now, putting it on and seeing the practicality of those, not really needed. The novelty of the purchase wears off really quick.
Your are limited in apps. Samsung is using the Tizen OS. Now by just opening that to independent developers recently doesn't help this with the arrival of the Android Wear OS. Making those developers wait I'm sure made them stick with android since Samsung is releasing the Gear Live, running Android Wear in just a few days. The apps are very slim to none. After the release of the live i have a feeling Tizen will be a victim of "nice try" or "bless their hearts". Having a feeling it wont go far.
The camera, ok, it's neat at first but then as i said the novelty wears off. when will you, anyone over 15, use it. Same with the IR blaster. I linked it up, used it a couple times, got a good laugh and havent' touched it.
the screen is great, and the whole watch looks great. the notification feature is really nice. I have it linked to my S4. Now, with android apps, you can't use gmail (for those that do), well you can, but through the echangemail. but that also means receiving your mail in to different areas on your phone. Not a big deal but i don't want to have to delete from 2 different areas.
The calling feature, pretty good. not you will see some reviews that say the voice is not accurate for texting, and you have to move your wrist around when talking and the sound isnt great. i can tell you that is not true. the sound is awesome and i tested it out while i was sitting at the table and didn't have to move anything and talked at a normal level. The person on the other end actually said they could hear me better from that than on the actually phone. Cool feature, but unless i'm driving in a car, not going to really use it. The S-Voice recognized everything I said each time, contradicting a lot of other reviews. I had no problem.
The fitness features....Heart rate monitor, not hardly accurate, when it reads correctly. Using the watch on my wrist and a pulse oximeter on the other hand, it was about 15 to 20 beats off. No big deal to me not a feature i'm really worried about, buts it's there. Pedometer, seems to do what it's supposed to. Sleep monitor, not really sure of it's purpose, but said i was motionless for 94 percent of my 6 hours and 58 minutes of sleep.....???? ook.
bluetooth range was about 30 feet which is pretty normal. I haven't submerged it or used in the shower but thats because i plan to return it, yes people, return it. Don't get me wrong, it's nice, but you really need to look at all the options, 5 of which belong to samsung. I think i'm going to go with the Live. For the android apps, and i don't really need an IR blaster, or a camera.
The biggest draw back for me really is the apps. Theres nothing there. Granted there aren't a lot for Android Wear but there are quickly building. I am a golfer and Gear 2 with Tizen just doesn't work for me. Again, check all the options and weigh out what you are really going to use and not use. The gear 2 is not worth the 299 price tag when all your getting is a 100 dollar camera. The Gear Neo all the same without the camera. The Gear Live is the same price as the Gear Neo and doesn't have the IR blaster or the phone calling feature, but it is running on the Android Wear OS, Same as the upcoming Moto360 which is double the price of the Live. Look is more appealing but it's also heavier in weight.
Good luck with your choosing. Don't be discouraged by all the reviews. Just put the features of each together and see whats best for you and where you end up.

Customer service: Great customer service experience by Best Buy! Availability for this product was very low, but I saw one pop at a Best Buy near me, so I snapped it up. I got called minutes later that it was ready for pickup, followed by another call that they noticed a defect on the unit, followed by another call 10 minutes later that they found another one for me.
Product: For me, this is the most trans-formative technology since Apple put out their first iphone. I mostly wanted an activity tracker that had accurate continuous heart rate monitoring, but didn't want to wear a chest strap. I was mostly expecting this watch to be inaccurate or at best intermittent for HRM during running/work out, and was prepared to return it if so. However, the first day I got it I ran 3 miles on the treadmill and the continuous HRM was spot on compared to manual checking and cross reference with the treadmill sensors. The distance traveled is also very accurate. The watch band is easy to attach and adjust and is comfortable to wear even during workouts.
I didn't expect to find the other functions (besides the clock) very useful, but I was incorrect. Here is a few notes about them;
Camera/video: Not so great in a dimly lit room, however I was quite surprised about the quality of outdoor shots. I was taking some pictures with my phone at a nice location after a mother's day brunch. I then put my phone away, but then a spontaneous pose occurred and I quickly snapped a couple with my watch. The watch pictures automatically synced onto my phone and they came out great.
Watch turns on when you rotate the face to read it: Works great!
Ability to read the watch face in direct sunlight: I was surprised this works so well, even with the brightness at less than half.
Pedometer: Great application. I normally use the watch face that shows the time and daily step total (except when at work where I use the watch face that shows time and my next meeting) so it is always obvious how I am doing for the day.
Excercising: Running works great. The app shows distance, steps and continuous heart rate. I haven't used the walking cycling or hiking app yet.
Battery: I was charging at night, and usually there was about 60-70% left by the time I went to bed. Lately though I have been using the sleep tracker which tells you how much time you spent with inactive sleep versus active. This is great information, except now the only time which is convenient to charge the watch since I never want to take it off is when I take a shower, but 15 minutes of charging a day is not enough charging to keep up.
Music player: I thought I would need to carry my phone during work outs for real time data readout and for music. Turns out the watch is easy to read during workouts for HRM/distance/etc, and has enough on-board memory to hold workout playlists. The G2 streams to my wireless earbuds with no problems. I have also used my G2 to stream to my outdoor bluetooth speaker when I am working in the yard.
Phone: The watch's phone is very clear both with bluetooth earbuds or just from it's internal speaker, and my callers have indicated the microphone is as clear or better than my GS4. The voice command works surprisingly good for finding the contactact and placing the call. I recommend giving your frequently dialed contacts unique names though, as it will place the call as soon as it decodes your voice command and if you have two women programmed with the same name as your wife, you could run into trouble. I have been using the watch phone constantly in my car or at home. Some people snicker and make snide comments (i.e. dick tracey, etc), but I don't care it works well and is convenient. Using the contact list with touch commands also works well.
Text messages: Convenient to read text messages, and to respond by touch you can set up standard template responses, or set it up to respond by SVoice, which works surprisingly really well.
Other apps: I use a golf GPS application on my phone called Swing by Swing. I contacted the company and they indicated they would have a G2 integration by the end of this month. I can't wait to try it out, I'll be able to see distance to the green on my watch instead of constantly having to open up my phone which is hard to read in the sun.
Overall, I'm blown away by this device. I like the way it looks and is very comfortable to wear. It's easy to read and all the functions are intuitive. Most people seem curious and and ask about the watch and what it does and are very positive about it. Others though seem to be a bit snarky and negative about it, almost taking it personal for some reason. I think this is a sign the technology is a new trend that is about to take off in a big way.
Note: This is the first time I have ever given a review for something I bought.
