Watch was great for the first 2-3 weeks, then there appeared to be an update that has caused a battery life issue. Do some research on the topic before buying. If that is ever fixed, the watch would be at least 4 stars.

After Nearly 1 year of use. The Watch stopped working after it was updated. The screen would show charge percentage when docked but nothing else. This must be a ploy from Samsung to have hard working people like my self become a slave to the system and buy a new watch each year.

Best smart watch on the market today!

Okay, I’ve had the Gear S3 (Frontier Bluetooth version) for about a month now and feel like I need to share my opinion on the latest generation wearable from Samsung. Let me start by saying I have had three other smart watches. I have an LG G Watch R, a Samsung Gear 2 and Samsung Gear S. I guess you could say that I’m a bit of a watch fanatic since I have many other non-smart watches I enjoy wearing too, but I digress. First let me say that I have been a Samsung phone owner for several years. I believe they’ve produced a great phone that competes very well, and generally leads, much of the new innovation for smart phones that we enjoy today. I know that can be a highly debatable statement so I’ll just focus on the Gear S3. The reason I bring this up is because if you want a smart watch to have the best compatibility with your phone you won’t get better than pairing units from the same manufacturer. There will be far less glitches and much greater compatibility. My first impression is that Samsung spent some time to make a quality timepiece. It looks elegant, as an expensive watch should, and feels solid. I’m sure this will take a beating and keep going however beating a watch is not in my nature, so this is just an assumption based on the impression it get from handling this watch. The Frontier has a nice outdoor rugged look which is why I chose it but that is personal taste. I really went back and forth since I wear a suit most days of the week and I think the Classic would have worked well too. I love the rubberized band on this watch! Originally I thought I would be changing out the band to get leather or metal with a clasp, but this band has a small amount of give which makes it fit well and is extremely comfortable. If it holds up well (so far so good), I can’t imagine replacing it with anything different even though Samsung has made it very convenient to swap out, if you like. I’ve owned 2 square/rectangular faced watches and 2 round face watches and I normally would say that you should buy for your own taste, but with the addition of the outside bezel that assists in navigating through options, widgets and menus I’m forced to say the round face on the S3 is the only way to go. It’s amazing how one simple design change could make such a great difference in your experience with a smart watch but Samsung hit it out of the park with the addition of the bezel control. I still use the touch screen quite a bit but it’s nice when you have potato chip fingers, to be able to navigate your way around without messing up the display. Again you can see I’m a fanatic about caring for my watches! The Tizen OS is quick and clean. I know others have complained about the lack of apps available for this operating system and I have to agree there are nowhere near as many as android but it comes with most of the important apps and I hate cluttering up my devices with a ton of useless apps. Could there be more useful apps available in the future? I hope developers see what Samsung has created here and realize they are committed to the wearable revolution which provides opportunity to market some well-made and useful apps. The display on this watch is phenomenal! It’s actually a pleasure to stare at this watch which makes it a lot of fun to try and find a watch face you like. By the way, there may not be a ton of apps available but there are plenty of watch faces to choose from. The colors are vibrant and the display is bright, making photos look really nice, although as I get older, I would rather look at much larger pictures, but for those with younger eyes, I promise you’ll be impressed. The Gear S3 has worked well for my fitness needs! It’s a little heavier than a fitness tracker but for me it provides all the same stats. I’ve never had a problem with it registering my heart rate and the number’s provided for BPM, steps, miles and floors seem quite accurate but I’m not a professional runner and if it were off a few yards over 5 miles I wouldn’t know it nor would I care. To me, all this information provides incentive to work out and motivation to push myself from the last workout. I should mention here that I do have the watch remind me to move if I’ve been sitting at work too long! Now if you want the most accuracy and you’re running outside rather than on a treadmill you’ll be pleased to know it comes with GPS. The only downside is that it takes a few minutes to acquire the satellite signal but that gives you a chance to stretch first. There’s also room to store music on this watch if you don’t want to carry your phone when you run. It will sync with Bluetooth headset so you can carry your favorite tunes, listen to them without wires while you run and leave your phone at home. The speaker on this thing is remarkable too. Every sound is crystal clear and can be loud if you want. I played some music though the speaker on the watch and it blew me away for such a tiny speaker, however I would recommend a headset for your runs. The sleep tracking feature worried me a little when I read reviews. What scared me was that people would say the watch would run out of battery by 3 or 4 in the morning. My experience has been completely different, of course I do make some adjustments that may be helping. First I’ve found a watch face that sucks very little battery and in the always on display mode it’s just two red hands (Mickey Face Red). Then I turn on Do Not Disturb, turn the display all the way down and shut off sound and vibrate. I’ve used the sleep tracking app that comes with the watch and I’ve used the Sleep as Andriod app. In fact, I’ve used them both at the same time and never used more than 15% battery on my most wrestles night. I prefer using the Sleep as Android app because it allows the alarm to wake me up with vibration to the watch. Yes, even though I’ve turned off the sound including vibration on the watch when I go to bed, it still allows the alarm from the Sleep as Android to vibrate and wake me up. The vibration of the watch doesn’t wake up my wife on those early mornings! The battery could last me easy two days with as much as I use it. I know Samsung says 4 days but if you’ve got such a beautiful display and tool on your wrist you’ll want to show it off, so use it. The really cool thing about this watch is the fantastic charging unit that comes with it. There’s no need to plug it in or clamp on a battery. You just set it in the charging stand and it charges up for you fast. I generally take it off for 30–60 minutes in the morning when I’m getting ready for work and 30-60 minutes as I’m getting ready for bed and the thing rarely goes below 75% charge. One thing that created a little apprehension as I read reviews was the few people that complained about its larger size. I have small wrists which measure at about 7” and it fits well, looks good and is quite comfortable. In fact, I believe the size makes a perfect balance of good looks on the wrist and good for looking at the information on the face. You obviously want to see as much information clearly on the display without making it too bulky on the wrist and it seems like they did a great job with the compromise. My gear S provides plenty of information but seems far more bulky on the wrist. Lastly let me say that I don’t miss having the LTE capability I have with my Gear S. I rarely took advantage of the standalone phone capabilities and defiantly not enough to justify the extra cost including the monthly fee the service provider charged for the phone number. In summary, I’m head over hills with the quality, looks and function of the Gear S3. It was easy to set it up, but I’ve had other smart watches so I’ve had a little practice and for the month I’ve owned had it, it has performed well in every aspect. So if you’ve got some dollars burning a hole in your pocket this might be an enjoyable place to spend them! I highly recommend checking this out!

After 12 months, the battery stopped holding a charge ... seems pretty convenient if you ask me. I'm actually pretty disappointed if you couldn't tell. I mean you spend this much money on a watch, you expect it to last a little longer than a year. :(

    Go Go Gear S3

The Gear S3 is truly the next generation in Smart Watches, combining the simplicity of an analog watch with the complexity of a smart watch/fitness tracker in one easy to use little device. I already use the Gear S2 as my daily driver so I was interested to see the improvements that Samsung has made with this new iteration. I have been using the watch, I guess you can call it a watch but it feels more like an extension of what is always in my pocket or near me. I’ll call it a watch for simplicity. Over the month, I’ve been using it, putting it through its paces and trying out the different features it has done a lot to impress me. My journey has not been without its bumps but they have been minimal, I have had a lot of “wow that’s cool” moments and it’s always nice to experience the tech envy from friends. There has been some discussion about the size and although it is large for some, for me as a bigger guy it fits well. It has a nice weight to it which lets you know you wearing something of quality and you notice when it’s not there. The size offers many improvements over the S2, the larger screen on the S3 offers an easy to navigate interface. I mistyped my code on the smaller screen of the S2 but the S3 minimizes that. It also makes reading my notifications much easier, as I have gotten older my eyes aren’t as good as they used to be so every little bit counts. The new bezel design keeps my fingers from slipping even when they are dried out or sweaty. On the S2 this was a pain point for me and I often had difficulty spinning the smooth dial. With the rigid edge design on the S3 you can rotate it without slippage. There are a ton of different watch face options unlike other devices, I personally like the stock one out of the box. The chronograph/tachymeter that is built into the stock face has come in handy for many different applications and its right on the home screen. The chronograph also classes up the watch to give it less of a digital feel and more of an old-school appeal that I find in analog watches. The screen is as tough as a Gorilla, for those of you that don’t get the analogy (no Sapphire here). I have bumped it into a ton of stuff and not had a scratch. Some of these bumps had a real pucker effect but every time I look to assess the damage, there was nothing to be found. There was one small issue I did notice on the screen when I was changing the watch faces. Mine has a dead pixel on it that is viewable when utilizing a white face screen. It’s a bit of an annoyance when you have the red dot starring back at you but it’s not the end of the world. I have contacted Samsung after going through the process on their website and answering some troubleshooting questions they have decided they will email a pre-paid shipping label for 2-day shipping so the process should be quick. Aside from the dead pixel, the screen is amazing, the colors are vibrant, I can read everything even in bright sunlight and some of the watch faces give the illusion of a reflection on the face, which is a nice touch. As a smart watch / fitness tracker it is ready to go to work right out of the box it is packed with enough features I didn’t feel the need to add any apps from the app store. The last part of that statement is very important, this device comes loaded out of the box with the apps it needs to perform any of the tasks I needed. From a smart watch standpoint, you can make calls, text, set reminders customize watch faces and even pay for your lunch with this thing. The call quality is like using speaker phone on many other devices but better. I have had people not even realize they were talking through my watch (be careful with this, it can get someone in trouble). I started using the fitness tracking with my Gear S2 and have become a much more avid user with the S3. Setting fitness goals and having the reminders throughout the day to let me know I have been sitting too long are great additions. I loved the built-in stretch exercise you can do simply by getting up at your desk. The mid workout encouragement helps you to stay focused and lets you know you're almost done. Once you reach the fitness goal at hand you get a review of how you performed. Competing with yourself helps you move forward in your fitness goals and gives you a good indicator of your improvement. The sleep monitoring was a revelation, I didn’t realize how little sleep I was getting every night until I put this thing on. After tracking my sleep and seeing that I wasn’t getting enough I began making changes to get more sleep. This resulted in feeling better throughout the day and even thinking more clearly. It’s refreshing to have a piece of tech that helps me make improvements on my health. When it comes to being a smart watch, the Gear S3 is a testament to Samsung’s “Innovation Made for Living”. The battery life gives it the longevity to be useful even if you take an occasional call. I could get 24 hours out of it with 15% to spare. It’s call quality, text messaging and notifications all add up to one thing, making my life easier. Whether I’m sitting in a meeting or out and about, I get notifications that let me decide if I need to pull out my phone or not. It even lets me act like inspector gadget when I take a call while doing other tasks. The microphone works so well that I can talk like normal without feeling the need to yell at my wrist and creating panic in the people around me. The voice dictation feature is great for sending text messages and you even get the option to send the recording or the text. This works pretty good but could be a little less clunky as there is an occasional lag when texting. If you don’t want to be weird in public you can simply draw the characters for your text message one at a time. It takes a bit longer but still gets the job done. The quickest way to respond to text is to use the pre-determined responses which you can customize. Most of the time my responses fall into this category but it’s nice to have the other options, it’s all about flexibility. Samsung Pay has seen some improvements making it work much more seamlessly. I started using it on the S2 and it only worked about half of the time which was frustrating when holding up the line to make it work while the suite behind you is piercing your soul with their eyes. With the Gear S3 I just tell them I’m using NFC, activate it on my watch, swipe and go and that’s how it should work. No feeling guilty for taking too long at the register like the person with the check-book. The Gear S3 has been a real asset to my daily life. Making things more simple is the whole purpose of technology and the Gear S3 does just that. If you’re in the market for a device that will make your life easier, I would recommend picking one of these up.

I would not recommend anyone purchasing this watch. Especially if you are with sprint. If you are with Sprint you must have the phone near and be connected to blue tooth. That being said all the purpose it serves is a fancy watch or merely a fitbit. Spend your 349.00 on something more useful

First, i love this watch. Pros: The construction is sturdy. The dial is an excellent idea to navigate. Battery life between 4-5 days consistently. Good sleep tracking Activity tracking is on par with others. Sometimes a miss. Great watch faces. Rarely loses connectivity with the phone. Very decent speaker and microphone. Super easy to use Cons: Samsung voice is very slow Lack of apps. But i hope Samsung is working on an update Galaxy gear app needs a speed boost. I have the gear frontier with default strap. It is difficult to inset the strap in to the strap holders It gets stuck. Heart rate monitor is inconsitent A little bulky. i hope the downsidess related to software are noted by samsung. I head that there is a Tizen update in development. Hopefully that addresses some of the issues.
