Please know, there are various settings you can adjust to improve your experience with the rear speakers.
You can adjust the volume of the rear speakers by using the remote included with the connected soundbar. Press the CH LEVEL button on the soundbar remote, then select REAR LEVEL and use the Up/Down buttons to adjust the volume within a -6 to +6 range.
Additionally, make sure that the source (e.g. TV output) is sending surround channels to the Soundbar. If you are using a format such as PCM, you may experience decreased volume to the rear speakers.

I am glad to see that you are loving the audio quality, if you want to fine-tune your audio experience, follow these steps.
If you press and hold the SOUND CONTROL button for 5 seconds you will be able to adjust the sound for each frequency band. 150Hz, 300Hz, 600Hz, 1.2kHz, 2.5kHz, 5kHz, and 10kHz are selectable using the Left/Right buttons and each can be adjusted to a setting between -6 to +6 using the Up/Down buttons.
When you press the SOUND MODE button, you can choose between Voice Enhance, Night mode, Sync, Surround Speaker, and Virtual modes.

Great clarity, weak bass

Unfortunately I plan to return because I really need deeper, more powerful bass for my setup. Wanted to love it, but wish Samsung paired it with a better subwoofer.

I am glad to see that your soundbar has fit perfectly in your home setup.
When you press the SOUND CONTROL button (which looks like a gear), you can set the audio function such as Spacefit sound, Voice enhance mode, Night mode, Sync, Surround speaker mode, and Virtual. The desired item can be adjusted using the Up/Down buttons.
By pressing the CH LEVEL button you are able to control the volume of each speaker, select CENTER LEVEL, WIDE LEVEL, or FRONT TOP LEVEL in Sound Settings, and then adjust the volume between -6 to +6 by using the Up/Down buttons.

I understand your frustrations, please know that we are here and happy to help.
When you are connecting the rear speakers with the speaker wire, make sure that you are not placing the clamps on the wire covering. The clamps need to be touching the exposed metal wire only. If this step is not done correctly it can cause interference or the rear speakers not to work.
