Great Robo Cleaner at a Good Price
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've been using robot vacuums for a few years and am a fan. The Samsung - POWERbot R7040 is my first experience with a next-generation model. There are great improvements in this one over my previous, 'bumper-car' versions: 1) Much better normal cleaning 2) option of a powerful turbo-cleaning mode 3) camera-aware movements which reduce the 'bumper-car' approach radically 4) options for manually controlling direction, spot cleaning, and repeat cleaning 5) an app that can control it from anywhere (and gives a diagram of where it went after a cycle) 6) a remote controller that can control it from anywhere in the home and manually direct it's path 7) a much more accessible, top-loading dirt collector that is easy to empty and clean. It was very easy to set up and start in auto mode. For me, dialing in the added features took some time and trial and error. Better instructions on these features would be a big help. For instance, in manual mode, I would click the directional arrow and it would stop but not move in the desired direction. It took awhile to discover that it wasn't just a matter of clicking, but you have to click and hold the arrows in the direction you want it to go (duh). Once I discovered this, it worked very well (though the sensitivities of manually controlling it are best left for directing it into an adjoining room when you're in a hurry for it to find it's way there - and not in the mood to carry it). I'm also not yet clear on how well the Spot function works. This is too early of a review to address that. All-in-all I'm very pleased with the way the POWERBot 7040 works. It is powerful, smart, simple and affordable!

Great aid in keeping home clean!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Love this product. This autonomous vacuum is the first I have had; normally used to bagless uprights (cheaper and premium). Initial impressions: The unit was packaged sufficiently enough with the stuff bubble wrap that it arrived undamaged. The build quality is high with grippy rubber wheels that do not damage hardwood flooring. Solid charging base and straightforward waste container removal. Performs as advertised with some asterisks for connectivity, the main one being the mapping functionality/path history has yet to work for me. The remote control included is easy to use and even comes with batteries! The wi-fi took several attempts to get working, but did connect in the end. Great idea for when gone for the day and return to a clean home! Cleaning: After watching my R7040 over several runs, it surprisingly manages to get consistent coverage in the high traffic areas on my first floor. Easily transitions from tile to hardwood to thin runner rugs with ease, though if your rug edges are long and shaggy, you may need to tuck the tassels up underneath the rug. The battery doesn't quite last for the entire floor, which is rather large (1,950 sqft) and is not wide open (multiple doors, etc). The brush is very easy to clean though and reinserts with ease. The dust bin is typically full at the end of a run and the filter medium will need tapped clean. The EDGE mode that sometimes pops up is unique and does a good job getting the quarter-round trim we have on our wood floor/baseboards clean. The spot clean feature if handy if you are home but need focus on a certain area, either physically move the unit or drive it via remote to the area of interest and hit the Spot Clean button and it will do the rest at high suction. Using this feature however, runs until dead and then you must carry it back to the dock. Future models should have the charging base emit an IR or radio signal that the PowerBOT can home in on for returning to home, though I understand it may require line-of-sight which wouldn’t be reliable. Intelligence: The PowerBOT does reliably find its way back to the charging dock provided you haven't messed with it too much. Make sure your charging dock is on a level surface and not positioned where the bot's wheels will end up on a tile grout line, or expect a notification about uneven charging surface. The thicker and more carpet you have, the less time your battery will last. The user manuals are also easy to find on the Samsung website.

Not what I expected.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'll begin by saying that the set up was quite easy, so easy in fact that my 11 year old set it up. Once set up was complete I put it on the charger and let it charge up. Once all was good I turned it on and set it off on its way. I have hardwood flooring so no worries of it having to transition over various flooring. It started out fine making its way back and forth seemed as if it was mapping out the house. Once it had done its work for the day, it found its way back to the charger. Well the following day was a totally different story. Started the Powerbot up and set it on its way, then about 5 minutes into vacuuming I noticed that it was going back and forth over the same area. Shortly after it went back to its perch. That was not what I had expected after the first day going so well. I think from now on I'll just stick with my trusty upright.

I feel like i'm in the future
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Full disclosure that am reviewing this as part of an insiders program. (I still had to pay for this), and this is my honest review: I was super excited when the Powerbot R7040 finally arrived. I've wanted a robot vacuum for several years now, so it felt like Christmas morning. After letting it charge, I probably watched it run around my house for a good 30 minutes. I felt like I was living in the future. Now I will admit that at first I was somewhat disappointed with this. The pattern in took was somewhat random, and it did get stuck in the space under my couch. However, after reading the manual, I realized that it has to learn the layout of hour house, and learn it will. To put this into perspective, when this first started out, the robot was like a little baby learning to take its first steps. It had to slowly explore the environment, to learn everything around it. Now, the robot is 30 years old, has graduated college with a doctorate and is a leading professional in its field. It zooms around my house and is extremely efficient. The robot is now a professional. It's been a really awesome experience for a tech nerd like me to get to experience the robot learn and adapt to it's environment. I wish I had taken a video of the first time I started it up, to compare it to now. A night and day difference. If you do buy this, I'd highly recommend you also download the Samsung SmartThings app. From this app you are able to Start/Stop a cleaning cycle. See the battery life left. Send the robot to it's home base to charge, and more. So - now that we have the nerdy stuff out of the way, how does it actually vacuum? I have a really nice regular vacuum, so I was pretty surprised to see how much dust, hair, etc this thing picked up. It was a lot. Final thing to know, is how quiet this is. I work from home, and if I want to vacuum my office, I can do so without any kind of issues. It's a bit noisier on hardwood floors, but still extremely quiet compared to a typical vacuum.

Great vacuum for maintaining clean floors
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Powerbot R7040 is a great vacuum for those with a hectic and busy life. It will vacuum both bare and carpeted floors. You can spot clean, clean a whole room, have it navigate an area by itself or control it with the included remote. The pros, you don't have to worry about vacuuming anymore! It has a pretty good suction for such a small vacuum. It will navigate itself around furniture and won't fall down stairs. The battery lasts around an hour and doesn't take long to recharge, a few hours. Very easy to clean the dirt container and brush. Can program the vacuum with your phone. The cons, you can't vacuum stairs or upholstery with this vacuum. We have a rug with fringes and it can get caught on these. So nice to come home to clean floors without any effort!

Cool robot vacuum
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Pro (5 stars) Set up of the Samsung - POWERbot R7040 App-Controlled Self-Charging Robot Vacuum was easy. It took about ten minutes to unpack, read instructions and set-up. I used the included remote control to start it’s first sweep. It does a great job on both hardwood and carpet without human intervention. It is superb around furniture and other obstacles including corners. It navigated multiple rooms and mated with it’s base automatically to recharge. Very cool! After an initial sweep, it has an adequately sized dust bin for my location (under 2,000 square feet). If it needs to recharge during a session it will resume cleaning when fully recharged. Con (fail) I am waiting for the Samsung Connect app to be updated to include the R7040 on either / or Android (generic) or iOS. To be a total solution for me it needs to handle the fringe / tassels of Oriental rugs (they jam now). I hope to be able to use the Samsung Connect Home 3-Pack to manage the POWERbot.

Loving This Little Gizmo!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Vacuuming in our home was something that always needed to be done, but seldom was. I'd always wanted to try a robot vacuum and, since I have many Samsung products already, it was a no-brainer to try this product. It's very easy to set up out of the box. One thing to note: I tried to set this up in my living room, which had a higher plush carpet. The unit wasn't sitting level enough to charge, so I had to move it to a hallway that wasn't carpeted. The app, however, was another story. I had to try several times to get the vacuum set up on the Samsung Home app. The first night I used the unit, the connection kept dropping between the vacuum and the app. After the first night, though, it's been consistently connecting. The unit will communicate with you via the app, similar to a chat. If something is caught in it, the unit will beep, and the app will tell you that a foreign matter is caught in the brush. The runtime is published at 60 minutes per charge, but I find that my unit runs for about 45 minutes before it needs to recharge itself. It does a great job of picking up stuff; the floors look great. Now, they need to make one that does stairs!

The SMART vacuum you been waiting for
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is the robot vacuum I been waiting for. The vacuum has so many features like: laser pointer for manual control, strong suction power and long battery life and a large, easy to clean container. I like how the vacuum has the ability to distinguish between different surfaces so that the suction power increases in the transition between a regular floor and a carpet. This, together with it's big wheels allow it to clean my hardwood floor and go on my high carpets with no problem, my old robot thought that my high carpet is an object and therefor tried to avoid it often. The vacuum come with a remote control, charging station and another filter, it's kind of disappointing that with a somewhat high price the vacuum did not come with the magnetic stripes (to mark areas where I don't want the vacuum to enter). The addition of the screen on the top of the vacuum is great! you can now see the status of the device and three buttons below that allow the vacuum to return to the docking station, pause / start an activity and focus on the area where it is located. Battery life is good as well, I get around 80 minutes when it's on low and 30 minutes on high, it's quite loud but I rather it be loud and be more powerful sucking all the hair of my pets then be silence and not clean well so the noise never bothered me. Overall this is the best smart robot vacuum that I could ask for, the phone app is a bit buggy but online they saying Samsung going to release new version soon with a lot of bug fix, I can't wait! :) This honest review was written in exchange for a discounted appliance as part of the insiders program.

Good suction and easily recharged
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First I would not recommend this item simply because Samsung mentions the boundary markers in the manual but none are included nor where they can be purchased. Several calls to Samsung Support returned even less information than the manual. The support personnel I dealt with seemed at a loss for what they are. To me the boundary markers are important if they work, they would allow you to set boundaries as to where you want the unit to stay away from...stairs, certain rooms, etc... The unit can be placed anywhere, the manual says to put the base up against a flat wall and level floor. I placed my charging base on on uneven carpet and with no rear support, no issues for the unit to dock. The unit backs into the charging station slowly without slamming into the dock. The suction is extremely powerful, edge cleaning is very good, and sound levels are very low as compared to a regular vacuum. Cleaning of my entire floor is tedious because the unit does not seem to map and remember. Instead it seems to just follow areas that I guess are in its field of vision. This results in a very haphazard cleaning pattern. If it comes to an open room, it may or may not enter the room. It cleans a long hall corridor that is about 4 feet by 30 feet long by bouncing off the the side walls instead of just going down the hall and then back. I place obstacles to block it from certain areas and rooms but once the obstacles are removed, the next time cleaning commences, it goes into these off limit areas. So that is the tedious part, I either have to constantly block off areas or follow unit as it cleans to keep it from these areas. The cleaning ability of the unit as well as the ease of cleaning the unit is excellent. The wheels do not mar my wood floors. The speed and battery life are all very good. But the poor customer support, lack of a good mapping and remembering these blocked areas makes this unit pretty difficult to use easily. My house is not an open concept floor plan and so maybe in an open concept house, the unit and its vision system might be better used. I really wanted to like the unit and have used it for over 8 days but as I said in my home it is too tedious to follow it. Lastly, cleaning just an individually closed room is EXCELLENT but cleaning my first floor is just too time consumng. I used the android app but that has basic functions and no ability to tell it to map an area, let alone to visually see the map on the app.

trying a new brand
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.well to be honest i have had multiple roombas. The last one i had which was the 690 model constantly got stuck on my throw rugs claiming it was stuck on a cliff. lol. with the powerbot i have not experienced any major problems. Phone set up is not as easy as claimed, and height wise versus roomba is about a half inch. It did manage to go over all throw rugs without getting stuck, but it did manage to trap itself in a corner by the couch. Hopefully it is learning, i do have high expections since it is a samsung product, Cleaning power is top notch and it does not bulldog itself into your walls and furniture like the roomba does so that was pleasent. Im going to give it a week trail, and if that does not work for me i will try something else. But so far so good.

Powerful Robot!!!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is the first vacuum robot and I’ve had my doubts. But the suction is impressive and runs very smoothly and was able to cover my whole apartment which is about 1200 sq ft on a single charge. We have plenty of floor mats and rugs and it was able to maneuver through them without any issues. We have three cats and it does a great job with picking up fur, kitty food pellets around the bowls, etc. Definitely worth the investment for a quick daily cleaning!

Fun Alternative to a Roomba
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was very excited to receive my new POWERbot. I had purchased a cheap alternative previously and it did not do what was promised. I must say, for the most part, this Samsung POWERbot does what was promised. It does seem to learn the area it needs to clean. It is fairly quiet and the battery life is better than I expected. The app does have some room for improvement but that could be fixed in the future. The only other downside besides the app would be the fact that it needs to be emptied quiet frequently to still be effective.

My hand right
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Impressive vacuum cleaner, it collects all the dust and hair even long or tiny ones and everything in its path. I am pleased and satisfied with the work of this vacuum cleaner. It's my right hand and an excellent help because it is only to turn it on or program it to do a perfect job. Usually, I schedule it at night, so I can go to rest and not worry about it. It's very quiet, and it is not noisy at all and in the morning when I wake up the floor is ready for a new journey.

Fantastic!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The POWERbot turned out to be more than I'd expected. Having never used a robo-vacuum before, I was expecting it to be OK at best. I was pleasantly surprised I was wrong. This vacuum really gets around and does a good job on carpeting as well as any hard flooring. It even gets corners pretty well. There were a few spots I needed to do a quick touch up, with my regular vacuum, but not many (mainly areas the bot couldn't fit into. What a time saver this is. I love the fact I can let it run while I go do something else in the house. It's like having my own personal helper. Another note on the performance is the suction is very good and it captures everything. For my sports enthused husband watching TV, it is pretty low in the noise category. It's not completely silent, but not anywhere near being annoying. Anyone purchasing this product will not be disappointed.

A mom's best friend!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Our house contains one oilfield mechanic who is always tracking in dirt, three dirty and messy kids, two hairy cats, a dog who likes to try and reproduce herself by shedding enough hair to create another her, and if course one very exhausted mommy. I need all the help I can get and my POWERbot is very helpful. I have named her Rosie and while she certainly cannot do all that The Jetsons housekeeper could do, my Rosie can do plenty! When my husband tracks in dirt I can send Rosie to that exact spot using the Smart Things app on my phone. If the mother in law last minute decides she needs to visit I can send my POWERbot on a full action clean. This vacuum is great from the small stuff but don't for one second think it can't handle the big stuff. I feared that the dirt cup would not be adequate but I was able to get my main living space (a family room, kitchen, dining room, and two hallways) before needing to empty the bin. Now that I can so easily vacuum everyday I really don't need to worry about having too much hair and dirt. The POWERbot was easy to set up and quickly started forging a path through my house. My kids worried about it falling down the stairs but the POWERbot has amazing sensors and stops when necessary. It can effortlessly switch between my carpet, tile, and hardwood which is a great feature. I would highly recommend the Samsung POWERbot to anybody who has floors (that should count everybody)!

Take the hard work out of vacuuming
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Let's face it nobody likes to vacuum. The Samsung POWERbot 7040 takes care of that. I love to vacuum now. All I have to do is press a button on my phone or the handy remote and that is it. The POWERbot 7040 does the rest and when the power is low it returns to the charging station on its own and when it's done charging off it goes again to finish the job. A little cleaning and maintenance every now and then and it's as good as new and ready to tackle your toughest vacuuming job. All this from the comfort of your easy chair! Vacuuming is now a pleasure. I have many elm trees in my yard and the POWERbot 7040 picks up the leaves with ease. Now I dont have to pick up leaves all day I just let the POWERbot 7040 do it. I am also vacuuming as I write this and it couldn't be easier.

Smarter than competition - Great vacuum!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So far the best Robot Vacuum I have come across. It's learning capabilities are amazing. Improves navigation day by day. I was able to compare features vs quality with iRobot from Roomba. Overall I am satisfied with Samsung POWERbot R7040 over iRobot 805. [Pros] + excellent navigation capability + great suction power + smart capable (wifi connectivity with smart control), see cons also + washable filter + great running time per charge (almost an hour) + Visionary Mapping™ Plus - a great feature keeping the vacuum to get improved navigation every time. [Cons] - not low profile as iRobot, making it nearly impossible to go under furniture like couches - difficult process to empty bin - very loud, but manageable compared to its suction power - no handle to carry it, you need to lift whole machine in case if you need to move it around - lousy smartphone app - get disconnected from wifi frequently (not my router issue) [Conclusion] I am not a Samsung fan, but this product is absolutely engineered before releasing to public unlike many other samsung products. Overall, I am satisfied with Samsung - POWERbot R7040 and I would highly recommend this over iRobot.

I wish I would have got this sooner!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We are very satisfied with our POWERBot. I would definitely recommend that you maintain your expectations and not expect the world. If you can do this, you will be pleasantly surprised. We have the POWERbot set to run once a day on our main level. It is very nice to come home to a freshly vacuumed home. It does a great job for as small as it is. Occasionally it does have trouble making it back to the charger, but that’s not often. We have 2 golden doodles and the POWERBot does a nice job with picking up their hair that they lose. The ability for the POWERBot to go home and charge and continue the rest of the area has been a nice feature. We normally don’t have to worry about an area being missed. It is really important to make sure that you clean the brush bar from any hair and empty the canister of any debris at least every other vacuum. It is nice to be able to manage the vacuum using the Smart Things app. It’s easy to track the progress and manage the POWERBot with the app. Overall, we wish that we bought into the robot vacuum craze long before. The POWERBot is definitely a great contender in the robot vacuum market.
