Best Tablet out for the size and functions

Do you doodle? If you think best with a pen in your hand, Samsung's new Galaxy Note 8.0 is the finest tablet available. Samsung's S Pen and the company's broad support for writing and drawing still set the Galaxy Note line apart from every other tablet on the market. The Galaxy Note 8.0 is really fast too. It runs a heavily skinned version of Android 4.1.2 on a speedy quad-core Exynos 4412 processor at 1.6GHz, with 2GB of RAM. In terms of raw processor speed, it's the fastest Android tablet have ever used or seen yet.

I came from a Toshiba Thrive, my first tablet, and this is leaps and bounds ahead of that tablet. I'm feeling I am up with the times. Not that ever mattered to me before. Samsung has put together a great product. I have purchased an ebook and the tablet is great for reading. I can't say enough about this tablet. It is well worth buying and trying for yourself!

I shopped over a year for a tablet and have zero regrets over my selection of the Galaxy Note 8. I had no idea how much I would use the note taking tools. I am on my second Note 8 due to cracking the screen on my first, glass verses cement driveway.

The new Note 8.0 is very similar to the Galaxy Note 10.1 that I have been using at work and love. That was why, even with the price, I chose to buy this the minute it was released. I also own an ipad 3 and a kindle Fire HD so i have experience with all of them. The size of this was a big bonus as it it much easier for dropping in my purse and hitting the road. I chose this over the iPad mini because of the expandable memory and the S Pen. it was a slam dunk because i also wanted work functions that I don't feel I have with my regular iPad. This is an entertainment tablet as well as a very functional work tool. The S Pen is the major draw...and be careful to not lose it because replacements are pricey.
I love the ease and function of the S Pen. And considering the price, I am pleased that it tucks away so neatly and stays securely. I have misplaced it twice, so it is just a matter of time...however, it doesn't feel as though it will ever just fall out on its own. I really love it because it feels like using a real pen and the handwriting is actually MY handwriting. Taking notes or just jotting things down is much easier on this than on my iPad. It is much clearer and a simpler function. The pen feels much more natural too. I have that rubber-nub ended pen for the iPad and the S Pen BY FAR is superior.
It is slightly larger, obviously than my Kindle Fire HD 7...but that inch makes a huge difference when reading and watching videos. It doesn't feel any more cumbersome than the Kindle. They are both very sturdy and feel well built. My son will now inherit the Kindle HD as this is replacing it. The Note fulfills ALMOST all of the entertainment functions of the Kindle with obviously greater functions for work. The main function I will miss on the Kindle is the Prime Video streaming app from Amazon. Amazon has made the app available to iPad and the Kindles, but no other Android device. ***update*** a helpful soul directed me to download xScope from Google Play and the flash player in that browser works GREAT with Amazon videos. Be sure to set your security to allow apps from other sources, at least during the first run with the browser because it sets up flash from the Adobe site directly.
The expandable memory is a big deal for me and I immediately put in a 64gb memory card. I store and play a lot of music and videos with my Note. The internal speaker is acceptable, but not awesome. The sound on the Kindle is much higher quality as far as the internal speaker is concerned. The headphone jack is loud and clear. I hook into my car speakers and use this as a video device, GPS, and music player. I also use it for audiobooks with the audible app. That app is slightly different than the iPad version, but equally as functional and kind of more sleek in how it operates.
The screen is crystal clear and beautiful. (The S pen is a bonus here too as well. Fewer fingerprints). Watching videos and taking pictures is a pleasure.. The camera takes great pictures. The camera is comparable to the Kindle HD7, but not to the IPad. Front and rear facing cameras...the one in the back seems to take better still shots. I guess the screen isn't as great as my iPad, but I have to admit that I can't tell the difference. That may be because this screen is so small or because my eyes are 43 years old and nothing looks all that clear anymore.
Kindle and ebook reader app differences: I didn't notice this at first, but someone asked about it so I checked. There is a significant difference in the appearance of reading ebooks between this and the Note 10.1. This is much softer looking, like real paper. it seems to be much easier on the eyes and I believe will make a significant difference in how tired my eyes feel after reading for any extended period. It is a nice improvement!

Best tablet I've used to date

Being an early adopting tech nerd, I've had just about every available tablet out there. This is the first tablet that I feel can truly replace a laptop for short business trips and normal day to day operations. The multi-tasking abilities and S pen are what really set this apart from the competition. I'm able to do a lot of work quickly and efficiently without ever having to turn my computer on. This makes travelling a breeze. Gone are the days of having to find a computer to perform normal work functions like signing documents, managing schedules, replying to email, editing photos and websites, etc. On previous tablets these things could be done, but took so much time that I would prefer to wait until I could find a computer.
On top of everything, this still acts as a great "fun and leisure" tablet. I can surf the web, video chat, answer emails, and watch my favorite TV shows with a screen that is very much underrated. I own the retina's, HD this, HD that, and every other tablet that's hit the market (hence my Premier status with Best Buy!). Some of the large review sites gave the screen a so-so rating...I disagree. For a featherweight 8" tablet it's phenomenal. The sound isn't too shabby either. I'm not a big mobile gamer, but this machine is more than capable of playing every tablet game on the market. I've installed one or two to kill time between meetings and I was blown away a the graphics and smooth game play.
I also find the 8" to be the perfect size. I've had 7" tablets and 10" tablets. The 7's were very nice, but just a bit too cramped and can make reading websites a bit difficult at arms length. The 10's were just way to big and heavy for everyday carry and you definitely can't use it as an e-reader without your arm giving out. The 8 is the sweet spot for me.
Overall I see me keeping this table for quite some time. I may finally not get the urge to jump on the next tablet to hit the market. With the speedy processor and all the other key features, there's really nothing more to upgrade until there's a major jump in technology.
This does not have a 4G LTE option, but with a mobile hotspot app on my cellphone, there's absolutely no reason to pay for another data plan.
The only gripe with most people is the price. I wasn't wild about it being so expensive, but I'm a firm believer that you get what you pay for. I've had cheaper tablets and they just do not compare to the Note 8.0. I also believe that this is a sound investment which should last even the heaviest of users a long time before they feel the need to upgrade.

This is a great little tablet! It does so many things. There are lots of options no matter what you are doing. Set up was super easy and fun. I love that I can personalize my screens with widgets apps. Etc. I can make it do exactly what I want. It is a fun and easy to use tablet but at the same time has some depth to it. When sending emails etc. You have all kinds of options for text size, color and style. It is easy to insert items or you can stick in a hand written note. If you want to write something out in your own handwriting you can do that and then have it transfered to text. The pen is super cool....the s-note app is awesome. So many choices of what you can do. I love that you can save things into your own folders. Visually it is great for productivity. The split screen option is really nice to have to. Everything works beautifully and flawlessly. The battery goes down fast but it also charges fast which I actually like better than a longer battery life and charge. The camera is ok. It is what it is and works great if you just need a quick shot to send out or for reference but it works decend with quite a few options, including voice command. I also love the android apps and the notification system. I went from ipads so initially I was not convinced I would like the change but I LOVE this tablet SO much more. I love the android operating system and everything about it. I am very happy with this product and it is safe to say I am totally in love with this sweet little tablet! Buy one!

The price isn't too good but I actually got my Galaxy note 8.0 for $299 adding an AT&T data plan to it with a free Wifi Hotspot from Best buy. With AT&T it was $50.00 per month but I called AT&T and added my phone and the Tablet to a different shared plan and now I'm only paying like $10 more a month to use the Note 8.0 anywhere I go and I only paid $299 for it.
Aside from that, this device is the almost the best tablet ever. I've waited for a long time to buy a tablet worthy of the tablet price and this is it. There is nothing that this tablet cannot do while other tablets are limited to specific software from their operating system and specific apps from their app store, like the Amazon Kindle. This is the only tablet that has the SPen and multi-window and cascading window options. I was just watching a video while browsing the internet while checking my email all at the same time. I had 3 windows up at once. It's smooth and powerful too. There is no lag whatsoever. This tablet really makes me want to look out for the Galaxy Note 3 that's coming out later this year. I will admit that if you have the Galaxy Note II phone this won't be much of a surprise to you because it's a bigger version of the phone but for those with other phones, you will absolutely love this tablet.

This item was purchased as a replacement for my wife's tablet, an Asus T300 with keyboard. Fortunately for us the Asus failed a month before its warranty expired. Since we purchased it a Best Buy, and they couldn't fix it, they gave us a full refund for the Asus - THANK YOU Best Buy. Aside from that the Samsung is a much better product for our needs. It's lighter, easier to hold, has great screen resolution and brightness. We use it most often as a reader. We love the camera, the fact it has a stylus, you can draw with it, without using our fat fingers. We also had a Samsung Note 10.1 for a short time, prior to the Asus. In retrospect the 10.1 note would have been a better choice than the Asus. but the 8" is a much more convenient size for us. We both love it!

I'm coming from using a Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet, but wanted this because of it's size to take with me when waiting at Dr. Appt.s and when out. It's a beautiful display, sounds great, size is perfect for taking notes. I use primarily to replace paper in my office.
I think the Galaxy Note 10.1 has more features, but this Tablet is just as good and works flawlessly for me so far. It's very fast and the only con I can think of is the price, because It almost kept me from getting it. The S Pen is something I use a lot for drawing and taking notes, so for me the price was worth it.
The Galaxy Note line of products from Samsung are very good for productivity and with the Dual View functionality, makes multitasking very easy. I'm really enjoying this device so far, much better than looking at my small 4 inch Cell phone screen when out.

The Galaxy Note 8 is a great tablet. I upgraded from a Tab 2 7.0, and the change in resolution and screen size is immense, but the tablet doesn't feel that much bigger. It is bigger, to be sure, but it's not a 10-in, and can fit easily in your hand. HD resolution looks beautiful. The processor has never skipped a beat using any number of productivity apps, surfing the web, even needy games (Real Racing 3, for example).
Best feature is the included S-Pen. Digitizer works amazingly well, and once you figure out the quirks of writing (you actually have to be able to write semi-clearly in order to correctly translate into text), it's easy to use, and in some cases much faster than typing. I use heavily for personal, but also for business. Perfect for taking notes in meetings, you can take notes, draw pictures, then send minutes before you leave the meeting.
Use adobe reader to mark-up pdfs, s-note/papyrus/awesome note HD (included free) or any number of other handwriting apps to take notes. These each have their strengths and weaknesses: S-Note, for example, rasterizes the document prior to pdf export, and the quality is very low for print; none can share to allow editing; none have online access/backup.
One Note, Evernote do not allow handwriting, however, just recently OneNote updated to allow read-only notes with handwriting if created on a different platform.
Google Drive/ Dropbox/ Box/ others allow seamless online backup/cloud storage, each with native apps that allow saving of items from other apps directly to the cloud.
Android 4.1.2 works very well, many useful features.
I also purchased a MicroUSB to full-size USB adapater, which allows me to plug in a camera, flash drive or external HDD. The official Samsung adapter works great. Recently on vacation, I dumped photos from my camera onto my tablet due to a smaller SD card. Easy to move files around, create/rename/delete folders. Tablet handles up to 64gb SDXC microSD cards to upgrade storage for media and some apps.
Overall, an excellent value when compared to other tables with pen features (not all of which even have the same features as S-Pen), but it is probably overpriced for casual user, who only wants to surf, check email, and watch the occasional youtube video.

Great Android tablet. I love the option of using the stylus for notes and drawing. The speed is great and plenty of Android apps available. The screen size is perfect for a tablet unlike its larger siblings and competition.
The only bad thing is the price. If this was $100 cheaper, it would be a killer device.

The reason why the price is so high is because of the s pen feature. In that aspect, I feel it's worth the price. If a pressure sensitive stylus is not important for you, then this is a tablet you should probably pass up. (Keep in mind, this IS one of the few tablets out there that do have a pressure sensitive wacom digitizer.)
The tablet has a great screen. Good contrast and saturation balance, which is important if you're getting this tablet for artistic purposes. Compared to the Nexus 7, the screen is much more vibrant, and generally appears to be of better quality. What it lacks in pixel density it more than makes up for it in general lcd quality. It has a better back light.
The s pen works great and note taking is excellent with the right apps. S note is good for this, but there are several other apps out there worth checking out.
While this tablet has a similar processor to the Note 10.1 (however 10.1 ranks at 1.4Ghz, while the Note 8.0 is at 1.6 Ghz) it functions at a greater speed. The lag I noted while testing the Note 10.1 has been greatly reduced on the Note 8.0, I'm not sure whether to contribute this to a smaller screen or not. Basically the stylus is definitely more accurate on this tablet. The lag is very minimal. I recommend checking out one in person before purchase though, just to make sure it processes at an acceptable speed for you. With this increase in processing power, the tablet is excellent at multitasking by the way.
Some of the bad, Samsung has yet to release a model with more memory. Ranking in at 16 GB, you have around 10 GB of usable memory. Sure, they'll tell you, you can simply throw in an SD card... However that SD card does NOT store apps. It can store some basic media however, like photos. This can become a serious issue for some consumers who are looking for a tablet to put under heavy use.
A note on the speakers, they are not forward facing, like on the Note 10.1. They face downward. It's a rather dumb design on that part. The speakers, despite that sound good. At least they aren't on the BACK of the device, like many other tablets.
Finally, one last issue, but not terrible, the back left hand corner of the tablet can get fairly warm under heavy use. The Nexus 7 had a better heat sink.

Very impressed with all that I can do with such a light weight product. Less bulky than my laptop, quick response on apps, similiar to using my android phone. Easy to personalize, love the option of buying usable apps. Handy for reading books. Typing on the virtual keyboard is easier than I anticipated.
Only complaint, it is slippery. Would love to see a less expensive snap on type back cover similiar to those used on cell phones that give it a better grip. Don't really have a need for the flip front cover that turns into a stand, just need something to make handling the product easier and less slippery.

I've hand my note 8 for about 2 months now and I love the note 8. It should of been released with android 4.2, and a bit cheaper, but aside from that it rocks. The screen quality is superb. Using the s pen is easy. Some of the apps you can use with it makes it so much fun with "painting" and such. Netflix and just watching movies in general is awesome. I prefer this a million times over the tab 2 10.1 I had previously, and over the asus transformer tab before that. It's blazing fast, keeps up with my S4 almost. Yes, Touchwiz is not the best interface. Just download another launcher from the market if it bothers you that much. Me personally, it's alright. No matter what though, I love this tab!

I'm a bit of a tech geek. I like tech toys, but I don't buy them often. Instead, before I invest in new technology, I think long and hard about what I want that tech to do for me and how I might use it.
This device is everything that I've wanted. Or nearly. I teach part-time at several colleges, and I typically have a long "layover" time between classes. I've wanted a device that would be easy to transport (which my laptop is not), functional, and could replace my ereader. Admittedly, the iPad would seem to meet those qualifications, especially the iPad mini. However, I'm not a fan of touchscreen typing, which would mean that I would have to either become a fan or invest in an iPad cover that included a keyboard (adding more weight and space, defeating the "easy to transport" qualification slightly). The stylus of the Galaxy Note 8 was the perfect answer. The software has good handwriting recognition for me (although it does confuse a few of my letters, it's getting better). While I wanted a device with MS Office (and therefore looked into the Surface tablets), I find that the Polaris office suite on this device can answer most of my needs. I can start a document on the Note, save it to my dropbox, and finish it on my computer (if I want to have more formatting options, for instance). I can easily print from the device with my wifi printer. As an reader, I'm happy that I'm no longer tied to one store and can buy books from Amazon, BN, Google, and Kobo. The books are unfortunately stored with the store app used to purchase them, rather than creating one big library, but that's something that is outside of Samsung's control. The reading apps are smooth and responsive, and the fonts are pleasant.
I have used this device for several hours over several days--reading, writing in Polaris, streaming Pandora, and checking my social media accounts. Every day that I have used this device, the battery charge has lasted all day. I don't think I count as a power user, but my power consumption is probably above average. The fact that I have not been able to completely drain the battery bodes well for the average user.
Is this device a toy? Perhaps. But it's also extremely functional, and I'm glad that I bought it.

I've been experimenting and researching for almost 2 years.
I've been looking for a compact 'office' for the field.
I'm a commercial trim carpenter, by trade I need to be able to review
documents and digital blueprints on the job-site. The 8" format
allows me to look at details, while still keeping the overview of where/what
I'm looking at.
Having the Wacom stylus, adds a precision that you can NOT achieve
with anything else on the market. You are able to insert/edit with ease,
instead of hit-miss of most rivals. The ability to have a digital signature
inserted into change-order/documents, etc.
allows me to keep a comprehensive paper trail/time-stamp in real-time.
This increases the odds that I will get paid for 'honey-do's" and changes
that always come up. Eliminating constant reiterations of the same
conversation and denial of even having HAD the conversation,
allows me to focus on why I'm there...to put wood on the walls!
The android ecosystem is very robust and it's been easy finding the tools/apps
to facilitate the needs/demands of my job.
This tablet rocks! I am very happy with the ways it has improved my
work-flow.
P.S. It also handles video, browsing, entertainment, etc. in the hotel
after work, without a stutter. I've found that I don't need to lug my laptop
out of town. The Galaxy 8 does it all!

This was a gift from my husband. I was a little reluctant at first to spending the money thinking I was not going to get much use. I am so glad he bought it for me. I love this tablet. The resolution is better than others out here. I love that I am able to actually write notes and at the same time surf the internet with the split screen. It is very light weight. One of the best things is being able to pop in a memory card for more storage unlike some of the other tablets on the market. I cannot live without it. I use it all the time.

I actually traded an ipad mini to buy this and I am so glad. It is light and thin and so easy to use. In my opinion, android is not as restrictive as apple ios so I am really loving this. I can download anything I want from the internet and save it to an sd card. Hangouts is great and not onky does video chat but conference vido chat so my siblings and I can all get together easily even though we all live far apart. Resolution on the screen is about the same as the mini so l'm very happy with this tablet!
