I like this camera, but when it comes down to capturing images of people there is a lap and the image is distorted. I would recommend that you pass until this technology gets better

Returned camera because the apps downloaded to use wanted permission to read and use my e-mails as they wish..how crazy what does that have to do with camera.. and first app would not even work...junk I would not even give it 1 star if I had a choice

Camera is okay but interface is really wonky, old fashioned and low tech. Rather uncharacteristic of the Samsung brand. Motion detection is also glitchy.

Very disappointed with this purchase. Interface is antiquated. Camera motion triggering mechanism is glitchy; kept getting false positive once a day.

The Samsung SmartHub has been a great addition to my house, so I thought I would add a matching camera that worked WITH that hub. Boy, was my assumption wrong! This camera RARELY stayed connected to the system, it would drop out at the worst times and it only allows a "beta" live view. If you want a REAL security camera, get the Nest Cam outdoor version. I have six of those, and they work perfectly.

Will not connect to my network. Stupidest thing ever. What a waste of money. And, for some reason, I can not return it. Corporate Policy or some such BS. Great lesson, though. I will not be making another purchase from Best Buy or Best Buy's Geek Squad. Good luck with it. Censored--!!@# @#$% ^&*( &^T%R$ #$%^ *U&^ %^&* $%^& ^&*(*&^% #$%^)

I did a lot of looking around before deciding on this particular model for a security camera. I read reviews everywhere and decided to give it a shot. As others have mentioned use the app to help set up the camera the first time especially if you're trying to do it with wireless. There are no good instructions in the box. You can go onto the Samsung site and see the entire user manual, but frankly it's not that great. So using the app I was able to set the camera up. I ran into a couple of problems that any new buyer should know about. It wouldn't connect initially and I found I had to unplug my Roku from my tv set because it was picking it up as another network and 'confusing' the camera. Once I did that I was able to set it up with a wireless connection...however it didn't hold it's connection. I want the camera on our first floor but our router is on the 2nd floor. Apparently my wifi wasn't strong enough so I moved the camera upstairs and sat it on the router and it held a connection for a much longer time, but still lost it after a few hours. I reset the camera #button in the back# and physically attached it via the included Ethernet cable to the router. This worked perfectly, we never lost the signal and were able to access the camera from our smartphones. I should mention that I used the PC to do this setup, just go into the Samsung site and establish an account. It's easier to do other setup changes to the camera from there as well. So now the problem was...the camera was working but it was upstairs and that's not where we wanted it. So I bought a powerline adapter, I used the TP-Link AV500 starter kit, but there are others. It cost about $36. This device uses the electrical wiring in your home to enhance your internet connection. It comes with two adapters, you plug one of the devices into the router and plug it in. You take the other to the location you want in your house, plug it in to a normal house plug and then use the camera's Ethernet cord to hook it to the camera. When I plugged it in it reconnected to our router on its own and is working great now. Even after all the initial setup issues we think this camera is great, nice picture, notifications working fine and we're glad we bought it.

Great entry-level home security wi-fi camera

Did a little research, and the Samsung SmartCam series just kept coming up. Not disappointed with the ease of setup, registration, and addition of on-board memorey storage card. The 64 GB MicroSDXC card gets days and days of continuous record time, I estimate 4-5 days! The playback for the continuous mode is in blocks of 5-minutes. Of course, the 3-zone alerts are an additional benefit of the SmartCam. The iPad/iPhone app works slightly better than the Android version of the same app. Not sure why. Also, be ready for multiple 'drops' when looking at live streams. Not always, but initially, I got dropped streams within the first minute of the video. The wide viewing angle is also very helpful, especially with the zone-alert setup. If you're placing this in a window, be aware that the night-mode (IR), will cause a reflection off the window, making the IR mode, pretty much useless. You can compensate if there's a little light, with the WDR mode (which brightens the background). Regular color is really good, and there is a HQ mode. Accessing the videos online, can be a pain because it's a separate browser setup, no way to just view it in a standard IE/Firefox/Chrome browser. Which sucks if you're behind a firewall and can't install apps without sys-admin. Other than that...the Samsung is a great entry level security camera. Get used to the alerts if you don't turn them off (phone or email), and enjoy the massive on-board storage capacity for all the playback you want.

Purchase this for security purposes. This camera has met all my needs. Very easy to set up, just make sure you have a good WiFi signal. Great picture quality and good sound. Alerts work well with my Samsung 5 phone, that allows me to record directly to my phone when motion or sound is detected. Also works with LG tablet. Will purchase another. No monthly fees.

Surprised how easy it was to get setup. Motion detection is very sensitive day or night. Was easily trigged by our dog walking by. I also like that you can take the SD card out of the camera and play back the recordings as .avi files on your computer. Notifications to my gmail account did not work at first. I kept logging in and out and re-saving the password, but that did not help. Got an email from gmail saying something about sign-in not permitted because the Samsung app was using a less secure method. Went into the settings for my gmail account and found where you can allow access for a less secure app and instantly stated getting alerts in my inbox. Hope this helps anyone having a similar issue.

Great Camera & Easy Setup with the free app for ISO and Andriod. Got it home and set up in about 5 minutes. I had a few issues at first with view from the app while away from home, but it all came down to my home network and wireless connection of the cameras in my home. Make sure your are keeping the camera within a good wireless network range or hardwire it to resolve any issue if you have any at all.

This camera is equivalent to its competitor in nearly every aspect, except one. If you just want a plug and play camera and dont mind dealing with paying subscription fee's for the competitor to upload your video the the cloud then the other camera is for you. On the other hand this camera gives you access to the video feed locally, which allows you to use proper security camera software for triggering, recording, and storage of video. It honestly makes a great security camera in this setup using software like Blue Iris, there are guides online how to get it to connect. We currently use it as a baby monitor, and it works great. I specifically bought this camera instead of a traditional baby monitor because i planned on turning it into a home security camera when we no longer need to monitor the kid. It only gets 4 stars because sometimes you get disconnected, or they have annoying server maintenance that prevents you from connecting to the camera. The phone and web interface for viewing the camera work great, night vision works great.

Using samsung SmartCam android application to interface with the camera on samsung tablet and S6 samsung phone. Works better than I expected. Can set it store video clip to micro sd card and send alerts when you get motion or voice detection which is part of the camera. Camera has lots of control functions (need to play with it for awhile). I Installed 64MB micro sd card. Using it to monitor house while we are away. Could not get PC application to play video with windows 10 - My advice, switch to Apple before upgrading to Windows 10 products. Going to buy a second camera

I real wanted this camera to be all it said it was. The initial setup was quick and simple. Then I moved it to it's location and all was good.....at least for a couple of weeks. Then it started losing it's wifi randomly and I couldn't connect to it. After doing this a couple of times I hooked it back into th LAN line and was going to reconfigure it. That did not work at all. It kept saying the serial number was not valid and wouldn't let me set it back up. Even though it found the camera and provided me with the serial number. I could connect to the camer via IP address but that will not allow you to use the app for your phone or the see it on the web. That would only work if you were in your house on your computer. After I spent hours trying to reconnect it I gave up and returned it to Best Buy. I was actully going to just exchange. When I got to the shelf there was only one camera available. It appeared to have been open in the past and had an older firmware on it than the one I was returning. I suspect it had been returned as well. Until Samsung steps it up just a little I'm going to stear away from this camera for now.....and I really like most all samsung products.

Night Vision, day vision and audio are all excellently covered by this camera. Access to the camera via the Smartcam app is top notch. My only grouse is that i have not been able to get the web interface on pc to work so i can check in when i'm not with a device that runs the app. that is the only reason i am not giving this device 5 star. i also love the independence of the camera. no clunky hub to connect to just connect it to your wifi and you're good to go
