    Limited Features & Needs a Hub

    This is a basic LED single hue (color) bulb that emits a 2700 Kelvin warm light. The light itself is pleasant, similar to an incandescent bulb. But the bulb requires a hub and can’t be controlled directly. Plus, the SmarterThings app that programs it is cumbersome, unintuitive and has a steep learning curve. Once you add a hub and figure out the app, the only controls on the bulb itself are turn on/off and a dimmer (setting on/off times are a feature of the app, not the bulb). If you already own a hub, then this could be worth considering. But if it’s your first foray into a smart device, it’s not worth having to buy a hub and dealing with the app.

    Good product, but misleading info on the website

    My husband and I did our homework before we decided to go with Samsung. The Best Buy website is wrong as it said the hub was not necessary and when you try setting it up...first thing it says is you need the hub.

    I bought several of these lightbulbs, which packaging states compatible with Amazon Alexa. That’s all the box said. Well once I bring trying to sync them I found out the bulbs will not work without a $55-$70 hub. This is the most misleading packaging as it doesn’t not mention the need for a hub; essentially setting you up to forcefully buying a hub or returning the bulbs ( if you still have the receipt). I will certainly not be buying any other SmartThings/Samsung products and advising anyone interested in upgrading their home to stay away from this sneaky brand. VERY UNPLEASED

      We apologize for any confusion, Vonna! The SmartThings Bulb is designed to work with the SmartThings Hub, or a device with SmartThings Hub functionality, and will not connect directly to Alexa.
