      Doodlebug,

Thank you for purchasing this Samsung HW-MS650 Soundbar System. I am sorry to hear that you were not completely satisfied with its sound performance.

Have you tried the Surround sound control that adds depth and a sense of space to the sound effect?
There is a dedicated button for the control on the remote, located on the left just below the Play button, and is labeled "Surround".
Each time you press this button, ON and OFF alternate. When it is ON, the unit play sound over all the speakers.
When it is OFF, you can hear the sound of the original source channel from several speakers.

Here is a link to the remote-control diagram and details of its functionality on your user manual (page 16): http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/content/EM/201709/20170912120703044/HW-MS650_ZC_AH68-02994R-04-170904.pdf

I hope these tips help to enhance your audio enjoyment.

    Samsung Soundbar Bliss !

The Samsung HW-MS650 Soundbar provides excellent sound and can definitely provide the sound you are looking for during your TV viewing pleasure. It is especially attractive to those who have limited space, yet need to fill the room with that missing element when you are watching movies. At its higher tier price point, it is definitely a tough pill to swallow for some. However, it still works as intended with a few caveats especially since sound perception differs drastically per individual. Physically, this thing is massive; luckily it fits perfectly in front of my TV with a bit of room to spare to center it. At roughly forty-two inches long and about thirteen pounds, the unit is solid and quite heavy for a soundbar. I would definitely avoid resting this on any external device such as a bluray player or a satellite receiver. The metal finish on top is actually really nice and smooth. It does seem like it would be prone to scratches so watch for that. On the back you will notice several connection capabilities including an optical port, an auxiliary jack, and lastly 2 HDMI ports (one in and one out supporting ARC). Once connected, you will notice that the cables are not straight back into the unit, but rather an up and under installation. It does a decent job of hiding the initial HDMI connection, but I was a bit worried about pressure on the port. Be careful and make sure you provide enough slack in your cable. Personally, I would have like an extra pair of HDMI ports that went straight back but I can see why they tucked it under the unit. Bluetooth and Wi-Fi capabilities are also integrated in the unit. I could not test the Wi-Fi component as my TV is a 2011 Samsung and only works for those released after 2014. As far as technical merits are concerned, the HW-MS650 is up there, including UHD and Full HD pass through. In addition, the manual does not mention this but I can confirm the unit will pass through 3D 1080p video. It worked flawlessly through HDMI. On the unit, several sound modes are integrated such as standard, movie, music, clear and sports. There is also a smart mode that tries to optimize sound based on what is playing. For my tests, I focused only on lossless sources ran through HDMI. I used various movie titles including John Wick, Kingdom Of Heaven, The Martian and San Andres. For 3D, I used two animated moves: Home 3D and Penguins of Madagascar. I tested it on two TVs: our Sony KDL48W600B and my 3D Samsung 7 Series from 2011. Both TVs were connected via a Sony 3D Bluray player (BDP-S5500). I also tested regular audio CDs with various genres to see how regular two channel stereo sounds. Everything was tested in standard mode and with volume set around 20-25, with bass presets between 0-3. Collectively, the sound is quite balanced. For me personally the bass on this was perfect, it was loud and it rumbled on nearly every action scene. Particularly, the opening storm in The Martian was exquisite and roared and howled like I never heard before. This was a definite upgrade over the TV speakers that I used before. In John Wick, the night club really moved the speakers and every gunshot was piercing. In his basement, the cling of the floor breaking was ridiculous. For fun, I then switched to the compressed Dolby Digital track on that exact same scene and difference was staggering. Lossless was at a clear advantage. On Kingdom Of Heaven, the music blasted through the speakers with a nice clarity. Bass was there on the combat scenes and I was particularly excited that most of the dialogue was clear, though sometimes you had to turn it up a bit. Naturally, of course, the sound will vary by movie and on the two animated movies this was especially clear. Dialogue was much quieter in comparison to the more action oriented movies. During my 3D viewing, I noticed that the background music was over shadowing the dialogue. On both Home and Penguins, the dialogue drastically improved when I clicked the Smart mode. Everything was much crisper and louder, although I assume it was just compressing the sound. Nonetheless, it was neat that there was a difference, though I still think I would prefer just turning up the volume. At night, this will be extremely helpful though. I went back and tried this setting on the rest of the movies. While there was some improvement, mostly in the higher frequencies and individual speech it was not needed for the most part as everything was already pretty loud already. On John Wick, the gunshots seemed louder and on San Andres the glass breaking seemed more pronounced, though on both with it off there wasn't too much of a reduction for the need to toggle it back on. Dialogue did have a heavier sound to it, but again not worth it difference. The greatest improvement using the smart mode was on the animated movies. Overall, I was pleased with the results albeit that you are relatively mindful that the bass will not rattle itself off your stand, although you could definitely feel it in your ears and in the room. I thought it was plenty, but some people love crazy bass and I caution to keep your expectations within reason. Highs were there as well as some of the middle sounds. I actually could make out some of the background speech in some places on Home 3D. Switching back to regular TV speakers, you could definitely tell something was missing. Lastly, I would like to conclude with my CD audio test. I tried various genres to see how it would react and it was quite nice. It filled the room nicely just like our regular stereo and on bass oriented tracks you could definitely feel the pressure in your ears in some frames of the songs. My test CDs included Seal's album Seal II, Eminem's The Marshall Mather's LP, DJ Encore's Intuition. Using Seal's album Seal II, you could definitely appreciate the dynamics on "Kiss from a Rose". On Eminem's Marshall Mather's LP, the bass kicked on "Stan" as well as the weather effects in the background. On the DJ Encore CD, dance tracks came through clear. Bass was strong here was well, but not over powering. The track "Open Your Eyes" stood out quite nicely. Uncompressed audio is a real treat to listen to with these speakers. I also switch the sound mode to music while listening to all three CDs and it does not sound good. It compresses and does get a lot louder but it did not sound as intimate as the standard mode did. For Bluetooth, I paired it with Xperia Z3+ and the sound was decent. Walking around it would cut in and out a few times and as I went further away, it would get progressively worse as one would expect. The manual lists 32.8 feet as the maximum distance it would operate. It also only supports A2DP codec and phone calls are not broadcasted. Conclusively, I would say the performance of this speaker was excellent. Bass was there and full of presence, while the middle and higher sounds were dazzling on top of it. Action movies really shine on this speaker as well as clear dialogue. As a whole, the HW-MS650 definitely does not disappoint and does what it was intended for. However, at its price point, I do have a few problems. First, I would have liked to have maybe one more pair of HDMI ports and also APTX codec support over Bluetooth for those of us with FLAC/WAV/ALAC libraries. I would have also liked a larger front display, although you do get used to it. Overall, I would say to first try and go for something cheaper. There are probably ones that do sound close to this one in addition with all the features this unit has. If money is not an issue, it would be a great purchase. Also, remember to keep your sound expectations reasonable. Overall, recommended despite its steep price.

I bought this sound bar and tried for days to connect to my wifi network via the Samsung multiroom ap. I called Samsung support 6-7 times in search of assistance and could never reach anyone that seemed to any product knowledge. A few of the reps I encountered were actually rude, spoke broken English and clearly had no training nor does Samsung appear is ware of issue with tier products. I'm guessing this issue is ap related but since Ive not been able too get assistance in resolving my issue will return the sound bar to Best Buy. Shame on you Samsung for having such poor customer support! I will NEVER purchase another Samsung Product.

The Samsung - 3-Channel Hi-Res Soundbar with Built-in Subwoofer - Dark Titan is an excellent addition to any television and sound system. I connected it to my Vizio HDTV by using the Optical cable (AH39-00779A) included with the components. The sound quality is similar to a smaller scaled version of a movie theater atmosphere. I can hear the different levels of octaves, from the highest to the lowest frequencies. The volume is powerful enough to fully fill a large room with the highest level of quality sound. The sound function can be changed to complement the type of program being watched; from movies to sports to standard to voice there are many ranges to choose from. I connected my Pixel phone to the Samsung - 3-Channel Hi-Res Soundbar with Built-in Subwoofer via Bluetooth and via Wi-Fi. Connecting via Bluetooth was as simple as pressing the source button to BT mode and watching for the name on the Pixel to pop up and then tap on it for pairing. Connecting via Wi-Fi required me to download the Samsung Multiroom App from the Google Play store. I pressed the source button to Wi-Fi mode and followed instructions on the app which had become connected to the Samsung - 3-Channel Hi-Res Soundbar with Built-in Subwoofer. Playing music through the app requires linking your music accounts within the apps selections. I noticed my Amazon music account is missing some of my songs, but my Pandora account fully synced within the app. I enjoy the quality and functionality of the Samsung - 3-Channel Hi-Res Soundbar with Built-in Subwoofer and plan on enhancing my television experience because of it.

Great sound system with many features

I am very pleased with this sound system: the speaker is well made, with a sleek remote to control it. Set up: The user manual is abbreviated, but is well written with QR barcodes linked to the full manual. There is also a QR barcode to download the Samsung Multiroom app via Google Play or the Apple App Store. I quickly connected my phone to the speaker via Bluetooth and WiFi and connected the TV to the soundbar via the provided optical cable. Using a WiFi connection within the app, I was able to update the soundbar software and link my Amazon music. I was pleased to discover the app had an equalizer, since many speaker apps I have downloaded lack this feature. The app even allowed me to play the sound from another TV in a different room connected to WiFi. I am not sure when I would use this, but it is a neat feature. Sound: The sound was great for a soundbar, but I did not feel as wrapped around in sound as with my 5.1 system, which was not a surprise. The incorporated subwoofer didn’t have an earth shaking sound that a 12 inch subwoofer would produce, but the mids and highs were full and clear. I read that you can connect an external subwoofer to this soundbar wirelessly, but I am not planning on doing this. Conclusion: This soundbar is a great alternative to individual speakers connected to a receiver, if you want a simple setup without wires. I would recommend this system for a bedroom or living room to produce a clean look with great sound, but I would stick to a receiver/speaker system for a home theater room.

This is great for rooms up to around 1000 sq ft.The sound is excellent and beats anything you can get built in to a TV. Its really easy to mount and looks really nice with my series 8 4k Samsung TV, they really do compliment each other. Setup is super simple and i used the Optical cable that Samsung do provide in the box which is great, i was up and running with sound in less than 10 minutes. The remote is ok, nothing flash, just simple to use. Sound modes: Standard, Movie, Sports, Voice, Music. Surround and Magic mode. Inputs: Bluetooth, HDMI, WiFi, Optical, Aux For people in a decent sized room who are using the TV speakers then this will give you that big sound you desire but with using minimum space. It can give you some great bass and movies sound fantastic. Rich sound with some good clarity. This i think is a great purchase and i would recommend this setup to any of my friends or family

    Great Hi-Res Sound Quality

I’ve been using this Samsung MS650 soundbar for over a week now and have been really impressed! Even though this is a Samsung soundbar I have it connected to a Sony television and bluray player and everything is working well. The sound quality is much more rich and clear than previous soundbar’s I’ve owned and the design feels much more solid. This soundbar is quite a bit heavier than I expected it to be, but I think that’s probably because it has a built in woofer and is constructed with quality materials. I’ve played 4K blu-rays and the hi-res sound is very clear. I’ve also connected the soundbar to my computer and played some HD music tracks and the sound quality is perfect, more so than you would imagine. In my opinion this is really where this soundbar shines, and part of why the price is so high. The Hi-Res sound quality really is superior however you need to make sure you truly have a hi-res source and are connected properly. Be sure to Google how to connect a hi-res soundbar if you have any questions. The bass is adequate for most purposes but I do find myself yearning for more from time to time. A wireless subwoofer is supposed to be released soon, and I think I’ll probably get it for a little extra thump. The bluetooth connectivity works perfectly and being able to connect other samsung speakers wirelessly is a nice added feature. The soundbar has many preset sound options as well as a smart option that adjusts the sound to fit the current scene on the screen. There is also a “surround” option that pushes the sound out differently so that it fills the room more and sounds “larger” if that makes sense, but not really surround if you ask me. There is a pair of wireless rear speakers that you can buy separately to add to the surround sound and make this a 5.1 system if you get the wireless subwoofer as well. The remote has a comfortable feel and I like the way the volume buttons are set up, though it took me a little while to get used to them. For volume there is one button with 3 functions, volume up, volume down and mute. The base is similar, bass up, bass down and bass mute. Although I like the remote for the soundbar, my television remote works for controlling the volume so I usually just use that. I really am happy to own this soundbar and am excited to try the add-on wireless subwoofer along with some additional wireless speakers around my house that I can control with the app. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a clean, crisp sound and isn’t too concerned with the bass.

This is nice. If you are looking for a sound bar that will provide a full sound experience and don't need or want a large subwoofer (Though you can add one later wirelessly later) This is the bar for you. It nice to have something compact without needed to string wires yet still get a good experience for sound for movies and music. It was also nice to see it come with mounting hardware if you wanted to mount this to a wall and if you have a Samsung TV (which I don't) then this may be something to look at as its all part of the Samsung ecosystem. It was also nice to see not only an Android APP but they also made an Apple App too to help control the sound bar. The important thing is the sound and for me, I thought it sounded great even without a subwoofer, I could clearly enjoy my action movies and still get that boom without waking the neighbors, though I'm sure if I pushed the bar to max I could. Music sounded great, pairing it with my phone to stream my music was easy and sounded fine. I am very happy it does exactly what I would want with a soundbar. Sound great without needing to rewire my house and set speakers everywhere.

It took a few steps to get the hdmi to work, but it wasn't the soundbar's fault. I hooked it up with hdmi and I couldn't get sound. I finally tried the optical out/in and that source worked just fine. I messed with it for a bit, then it dawned on me that it must be a tv setting. Yup, the setting was off by default...stupid huh. It fired up and then I had to figure out the remote. The volume button wasn't working....oh wait, this is a switch, like a power window switch on a car. It works really good, once you realize it's not a button. Bluetooth works great with my Pixel. I switched the soundbar to BT and my Phone showed the Samsung soundbar instantly. I clicked pair and they paired up with no problem. I fired up an audiobook and raised the volume. All worked as it should. So far I'm really enjoying the soundbar.

When you get a sound bar, it is generally because surround is not an option, or you just don't want the hassle/wires. I have experienced many sound bars, and none compare to actual surround sound. This bar however does a pretty good job. The bass fills a small room making you feel surrounded, however you don't get the surround feeling from the high/mids. I love the fact that this item allows you to add Samsung wireless speakers for the surrounds. I did not get them, but definitely will. The overall sound quality is warm, clear, and well balanced. I have a Samsung TV and the TV remote automatically adjusts the volume without any set up. I plugged it in, changed the TV sound setting to external source, and done. It really was that simple. Additionally, the item looks sleek, stylish, and has a good well made feeling. Definitely a great product.

This system is wonderful for rooms 500-900 sq ft. Fills the room with sound that can't be beat by built in TV speakers. WiFi and Bluetooth sync faster than my Bose portable speaker. Mount assembly really easy, might end up buying Samsung 4K TV that pairs wirelessly to this speaker for a cleaner look since you can plug the power from their TV in to this speaker, then from the speaker; connects to your power strip. Out of the box, not reading the manual easy to setup. Samsung supplies you with an optical cable for your sound which will allow you to use your TV speakers at the same time using the sound bar for a more robust sound. ( Not all TV's have this option ) Remote is simple and light weight it too functions as a Samsung TV remote for their newer TV's making it even more cleaner look. Sound modes: Standard, Movie, Sports, Voice, Music. Surround and Magic mode. Inputs: Blutooth, WiFi, Optical, Aux For small to medium size rooms this will please anyone.

This sound bar is great when it works, it always disconnects from the Samsung tv or it asks to connect to anytime. It’s the worst purchase I’ve made on a Samsung product and I have one of the noisy Samsung ice maker refrigerators!! I’d like to be able to just use this soundbar without the network connect feature which is total garbage.

No, I would not recommend this to a friend
