I am surprised that a product that sounded so good in the store, can perform so poorly in my home. The volume sticks, variation in sound is not controllable, and sound bars (Yamaha) that I have used for half the price have been far superior.

      JasonL,

Thank you for purchasing this Samsung HW-MS650 Soundbar System. I am sorry to hear that you were not completely satisfied with its sound performance.

Have you tried the Surround sound control that adds depth and a sense of space to the sound effect?

There is a dedicated button for the control on the remote, located on the left just below the Play button, and is labeled "Surround".

Each time you press this button, ON and OFF alternate. When it is ON, the unit play sound over all the speakers.

When it is OFF, you can hear the sound of the original source channel from several speakers.

Here is a link to the remote-control diagram and details of its functionality on your user manual (page 16): http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/content/EM/201709/20170912120703044/HW-MS650_ZC_AH68-02994R-04-170904.pdf

Great if you want a plug, play and forget setup

I switched out my bottom of the barrel, surround sound in a box setup for this soundbar. My surround sound is a 5.1 setup but I thought, considering the small size of my living room, that this soundbar might be good enough and maybe I'll even buy the wireless surround sound upgrade later. After a couple of days, I switched back to my original 5.1 system, but not because this was a bad soundbar, I just think it wasn't as much of my cup of tea being someone who enjoys tinking with settings. Pros: If you want a nice sounding, plug in power and an HDMI cable and your done setup (as long as your TV supports ARC, which it should if it was made in the last half decade at least), this is the soundbar for you if it's in your price range. For a "3.1" setup, the sound that was produced was pretty good. Testing out John Wick 2 on it and some of the sounds even sounded like they were coming from behind me. So they do a good job of throwing the sound everywhere in a room. Setup is really simple. You just plug in power and your HDMI into the ARC channel on your TV and you're done. Turn it on and it should detect and switch to "TV ARC" automatically so you'll hear any sound coming from your TV through the soundbar. It was pretty easy to connect to wifi and update the device with the Samsung Multiroom app. I didn't play around with much more of that, but if you have multiple supported Samsung speakers, I guess you can manage where the audio goes. You can even set this up to use bluetooth or wifi to get your TV audio if your TV supports that. Or you can connect your phone via bluetooth to listen to music. Lot's of options as far as connecting to this speaker. If it's in your budget, you have a lot of options as far as upgrades for this system too. There's a wireless surround addon that upgrades it to a 5.1 setup. I believe there is also a dedicated sub woofer upgrade you can buy. And there's an extra bracket you can attach to your TV to mount the soundbar just below your TV instead of leaving it on a shelf (brackets for mounting the soundbar to a wall are included). Cons: That's where the options stop. There are very few sound setup options. I'm sure this is a result of it being a contained unit and they've been optimized for some specific settings. I would still have loved some more tweaking options. The subwoofer is built in to this unit and as a result, the bass sounds aren't anything impressive. They aren't terrible but you won't be shaking the house down like you would with a dedicated subwoofer (sold separately, I think). It's part of the pros list, but the all the upgrades for this thing can probably double the price. So I'd say that's also a con. One more thing that might have been just an issue with my setup was, there seemed to be strange times when the soundbar would just turn itself off. No indicator on the device to say it was going to sleep or anything, but while using certain apps on my AppleTV, the soundbar would turn off unexpectedly. For instance, watching something in the Netflix app on our AppleTV, if we paused it for a handful of minutes and came back, we'd be presented with no sound and had to turn the soundbar back on. If we were just hanging out on the AppleTV main menu, the soundbar stayed on. The soundbar also stayed on all night when the TV had no input source at all. So I'm not sure what was up with that and it can probably be resolved with an update at some time. Bottom line: If you want to tweak every little thing about your sound system, you might want to look elsewhere. Also, if AppleTV is your main content consumption device, you might want to wait for a firmware upgrade. The random shutdowns were annoying. If you want a really simple setup that sounds good and you just plug in and rarely think about it's existence, this could be the item for you but make sure the upgrades are part of your budget if you intend on doing that in the future.

BIG, BEAUTIFUL SURROUND SOUND - SIMPLIFIED

I recently hooked up a Samsung 3-Channel Hi-Res Soundbar with a Built-in Subwoofer. Great technology and advanced features, it’s like being in a movie theatre with surround-sound. Remember watching “Jurrasic Park” in the theatre that had surround-sound? Awesome back then, but now you can have it in your home and you don’t have to go crazy with equipment and lots of wires and instructions. This unit can be set up and run by an amateur like me, or use advanced features any audiophile or movie buff would love. The soundbar has a built-in subwoofer, which channels high-resolution full-spectrum sound and eliminates the need for an extra bass speaker. Use 4K pass-through to connect your Blu-ray player or other UHD (ultra-high definition) device to the Samsung three-channel soundbar for stunning multi-channel audio and a clear picture. Sound⁺ becomes one with your TV with a single seamless mount solution, if you so choose that option. No need to make additional holes in your wall and you can use just one cable to power both devices. With 4K Pass-through, a simple HDMI connection delivers the best in audio and picture quality. Connect any 4K video source like a UHD Blu-ray player, through the Samsung Sound⁺ Soundbar to your TV for rich sound and 4K picture quality. Smart a sound mode, or let the soundbar choose for you. Sound+ command automatically analyzes the content and gives you optimized sound. No guesswork! You can control the settings OR let the settings automatically analyze and adjust for your perfect pleasure. A better connection to your favorite music. Whatever songs get your heart beating, Sound+ can stream them from your phone or tablet. Simply use Bluetooth or connect to Wi-Fi to play your music through Samsung's Multiroom App. Within moments, you’ll be playing your favorites in a new way. How great to use my streaming music from my smartphone or from my computer to fill the airwaves with perfectly balanced sounds and tones. Get real, with HD Audio. Hear your music the way it was meant to be heard, with more nuance and depth. HD Audio preserves the quality and richness of the original sound through 96kHz/24 bit high resolution audio. Sweet, anywhere you sit. Virtually every spot is the sweet spot. Get consistently amazing sound everywhere in the room with Samsung's Wide Range Tweeter, which covers a wide frequency range. The science of sound: Tested and tuned at the renowned Samsung California Audio Lab, our audio engineers applied new methods of transduction and advanced computer modeling to give you perfectly balanced, room-filling sound. Gain control with OneRemote! Spend less time switching between remote controls. Your 2017 Samsung TV OneRemote now manages many of the Soundbar’s functions through the TV UI. This is a major gripe in my house: TOO MANY REMOTES TO KEEP TRACK OF! Wireless connection with TV. Connect your Soundbar to your Samsung Smart TV with ease and without the clutter of wires via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. You’ll be able to enjoy all your content instantly with clearer, more impactful sound. You’re going to be amazed. Wireless surround sound ready. As an option, there is a Wireless Surround Kit which lets you expand your surround sound system easily without the mess of wires . Together with your Soundbar, you can create a multi-channel system for a true surround sound experience. Plug in your current Surround Sound speakers - don’t throw them away! Don't just hear it. Feel it. Distortion Cancelling technology predicts and cancels out distortion before it happens. Multi-speaker control increases the power and depth of bass by precisely coordinating the movement of each speaker. The result is richer, more detailed bass. Remember I wrote about “Jurrasic Park” in a movie theatre with Surround Sound? Exactly. Those roars and screams are realistic and in your living room. Sound that fills the room and moves every listener! Exclusive technologies blend advanced sound processing and precise speaker control to deliver just the right level of bass. Sound⁺ delivers all-around perfect sound, no matter where you are in the room thanks to Samsung’s Wide Range Tweeter. This is an amazing feature. Not one seat is the “best seat in the house” in our living room anymore. Simple sounds beautiful. Sound+ is simply beautiful. Samsung audio technologies deliver rich, room-filling home theater sound without the need for a separate subwoofer. With a premium curved design and an elegant single mount option, Sound+ becomes one with your TV and brings your entire home cinema experience together like never before. You will thank me when you fall in love with it too.

Nice sleek Soundbar from Samsung, it's a bit on the heavy side, my guess is to house the 9 speakers and dedicated amps for them (which is definitely a good thing) The sound does not disappoint, and the bass sounds great for a Soundbar without an external subwoofer. It has an HDMI port and an optical connector for ease of connectivity and can also pass through 4K content. Wifi and Bluetooth capability also allow you to play music with your phone or other device with the Samsung Multiroom App. The other cool thing this Soundbar does is it analyzes what type of content you are viewing and adjusts the surround algorithms to best project the sound for the content. Overall a nice addition to your home that will enhance your TV experience.

I purchased this soundbar to go along with my 60inch Visio tv. The bar is almost as long as the tv. Looks great in front of it. Right out of the box it was very simple to set up. Plugged right in and the directions were very easy to follow. I also chose to pair it with the Comcast remote that goes with my cable box. It works seamlessly with it and I am able to control everything from this remote. As for sound, this bar does not disappoint. With watching tv, the sound is so clear and the bass is noticeable. It's awesome for music! I also played some call of duty on Xbox one and you could hear every detail of the game. It's very loud, I haven't maxed it out yet but I also haven't needed to. Definitely happy with this purchase.

First things first, I'm no audio aficionado, but I've been around long enough, owned enough audio products (both good and bad) to be able to talk about what sounds good. This Samsung bar sounds good, and while it touts to have a built in sub, be prepared to be underwhelmed. Nothing, whether cheap system or otherwise, beats a dedicated subwoofer. That's why Samsung actually sells a dedicated wireless subwoofer to go with this sound bar. Don't get me wrong, it still sounds good and I was actually surprised by the surround sound effects (again, nothing beats dedicated surround speakers, you can buy surround speakers to go with this soundbar). This is is made for the sake of simplicity. if you want a quality sound bar that upgrades your TV speakers but don't want to invest time or money in true surround sound, this is a great option. But it's price is steep, I would probably stick to another brand unless you have a Samsung TV (this soundbar can connect wirelessly to Samsung TVs, which is a boon, less wires). It's simplicity can also be a drawback. For example, it only has one HDMI input. So you can plug in a 4K player, or a game console, or cable box but not two. Now there's a workaround, you plug the optical audio cable from your soundbar to the TV and use the TV inputs to plug your devices into. There's also an AUX input. That's it. HDMI, AUX, and optical audio. You can connect via bluetooth. The setup is easy and the remote makes sense. But keep in mind, you'll have a second remote to control volume (unless you have a Samsung TV, the Samsung TV remote should be interchangeable). To maintain the simple clean look (I do think the soundbar looks great) there's virtually no display. When you turn it on, the word ON appears in the right side of the soundbar, hidden behind the speaker grill (that extends across the entire face of the bar to create a uniform look, but then it disappears. I like that feature, but you don't always know whether it's on or off. When you change the soundmode, you only get abbreviations, some of them like MOV are easy to figure out, but others aren't. The input names are also limited to three letters. This is a minor point, and shouldn't be a big deal, MOST people will leave it on the same sound setting and input and only hit VOL up or down. But for those that tweak things, or use multiple inputs or have more complicated set ups, it's good to know. It is wall mountable, but it sticks out. What I mean is, it's pretty wide (not length of bar, but the depth from the back to the front). So it sticks out pretty far from the wall. This soundbar is also pretty heavy, but overall I like the look. This is in my bedroom, so I like the one piece and not having to worry about a separate subwoofer. But if this were in my living room, I would probably swing for the Samsung wireless surround speakers and sub to go with it (but maybe not, it would get pricey). All in all, good soundbar, but make sure it fits your needs before buying, it's not cheap!

Unit unpacked and connected to TV quickly. Initial speaker setup went fine, but had trouble finding instructions to adjust volume. It was not clear that the volume/mute button was a rocker switch used to adjust volume. Instructions regarding volume control were difficult to locate in user guide. User guide lacks a much-needed Index in addition to Table of Contents. Remote control buttons are poorly marked and not laid out in a logical fashion. Sound quality at least equal if not better to other soundbars in this price range. Especially appreciate the multiple audio inputs and the ability to adjust volume using the TV remote. Once setup and operation learned, the unit is easy to use and sounds great.

I recently set up my home cinema with a projector and a 135" screen. Paired with this Samsung Sound+ soundbar, my home cinema comes alive with sound and volume that I would not have expected. The Sound+ has quite a few features packed into it, so it's more than your typical cheap soundbar, and it's by far, the best one I've heard to date. Firstly, there are 9 speakers on the Sound+—each with their own amplifier. As a result, the Sound+ packs incredible sound AND volume. It can fill any room with huge sound while also preventing distortion at high volumes. The surround sound is also quite good. Thanks to the 9 speakers, The sound is also more directional, so no matter what angle you're sitting at, you're able to get quality sound out of the Sound+. It has several different sound modes that can help hone in on the content based on what you're watching. However, the Smart sound mode can make the optimal selection for you by analyzing the content. The remote is simplistic, but initially less intuitive with rocking controls for the volume and bass. However, once you realize how those controls work, you won't forget, as they're also quite nice. Bluetooth pairing is also a great feature, and while I haven't tested it on my 4K Samsung smart TV, I have successfully used it with my Galaxy S8. However, when I tried to pair with my Sony 4K Blu Ray Player, my Blu Ray player could not find the Sound+. Unfortunately, I don't know the software protocols being used for the pairing process, but I found this to be odd. I imagine this would not be an issue with other Samsung devices (mobile or TV), but unfortunately, I cannot attest to who is the cause of this issue. For someone like myself who would like to use the soundbar wirelessly, this could be a deal breaker. I'm willing to use HDMI since it will provide better sound and features like Dolby Digital, but the convenience would have been nice. If you want to stream music over WiFi instead of Bluetooth, downloading the companion app will definitely help get your Sound+ hooked up to your home network. While I haven't tested this feature, I imagine this features is similar to Google Cast, which means that the Multiroom App will likely have to support your streaming service if you plan to use one. Overall, the Sound+ has excellent cinematic audio characteristics while delivering some other worthwhile features. While it isn't cheap and it may not be for everyone, if you're looking for a simplistic setup that doesn't take up a ton of space like floor-standing speakers, this may be your best option, yet.

I wanted this sound bar to replace the surround sound theater system I have and get a smaller blue ray player. What is cool is the ability to add additional speakers such as compatible (2) wireless surround speakers and a wireless subwoofer. The sound is great watching movies and tv as well as Bluetooth music streaming. Even though a subwoofer is built in, it does lack the immersive sound from an external subwoofer in my opinion. Overall I'm very satisfied with this purchase and would recommend! Pros: Easy setup Cons: Larger than expected footprint, had to buy a new TV stand to accommodate the speaker and not block the infrared part for the remote.

In short, this is great-sounding, good-looking, multifunctional, sturdy sound bar. My most frequent uses for this are the tv and streaming radio and music. It is connected to a Vizio 48" 4k tv and has replaced a similarly priced Sony sub/soundbar. It not only adds greater bass and much larger soundstage, it also provides well-performing bluetooth and Wifi connectivity. That means I can use it for the Echo Dot, Android phone and tablet, Chromecast Audio, laptop/computer, as well as a wired connection via the aux port for whatever needs it. Other wired connections include HDMI (only 1 though), HDMI ARC, and optical (cable included). The awesome sound and large variety of connection types are not the only things to recommend it - the remote is smallish and not overloaded with buttons but is very functional. Each button's selection options clearly display on the soundbar's right side which I can easily see across the room without having to be right up on the thing. That's a thousand percent better than my old system. Selections using the remote include - but are not limited to - volume and mute, bass adjust, input selection, treble adjust and sync, Smart Mode, and Surround. When I've got a tv show on, the Smart Mode seems to act like compression, boosting all levels. I don't have any surround speakers added, but I don't think I'll need them. Television dialogue is so much better than the tv's speakers (always a weak spot) and with the audio adjustment selections available, I don't have to suffer through or turn on subtitles (being a little hard of hearing coupled with a noisy household). I use this in an open-concept living/dining area and in addition to the tv audio and other music, I have played Bill Laswell selections (including some meaty drum & bass tracks), classical music, and talk radio and audiobooks. All sounded better than I could have expected. This is not a replacement for a dedicated stereo system but it's more than adequate for streaming media, as far as I'm concerned. Though I might add a sub at some point - because even as good as this is, it still lacks some bottom - for now I'm satisfied. My bluetooth connection with the computer has never dropped (in the week I've been using it) and Wifi setup was painless. The best tool I've found for streaming is the Samsung Multiroom app which picks up the Plex server running on the computer. From within this app, you can also stream from the device it is installed on, Amazon Music, TuneIn, Pandora,iHeart Radio, 8tracks, Spotify, SiriusXM, and others. You can add a sub and surround speakers to this soundbar and doing this enables more functions on the remote. This soundbar offers a power connection for a Samsung tv. It is wall-mountable and includes the hardware. The aesthetics are on the mark for me - there's no high-gloss black finish here. It's got a clean, brushed dark grey metal surface and heavy metal mesh grille. The on-board controls are just some small buttons on the side. Pros: many connection types and audio options solid BT and Wifi connection beautiful aesthetics - even the display is unobtrusive very functional remote thoughtfully balancing size with options great sound even with no separate subwoofer Cons: wish it could have an even smaller footprint it still lacks some low-end

I was ready to be blown away given the excellent reviews posted by other users--especially in the bass area. Unfortunately, I was left wondering what others were hearing that I was missing. I tried this in a couple of different setups just to cover my bases. The first setup was with a high end projector system with audio connected via optical cable directly from the video/audio source. Playing from a Blu-ray, you expect a full range of detailed sounds. While the Samsung 3-channel Hi-res soundbar delivers excellent high and mid-range sounds, I found the bass to be severely lacking with this particular setup. Given that the PS3 I was using can be particular in the audio signal area, I thought there might have been some signal loss or at least not full utilization. It's also worth noting that the optical cable does not support DTS HD and TrueHD signals while the HDMI does. The second setup was directly from my cable box and 6000 series Samsung TV via HDMI. I could definitely tell a difference in the bass, but it was still disappointing given the $450 price range. Now, the bass wasn't absent and might even be sufficient for your average user, but I like nice quality bass. Not the trunk rattling kind, but the kind that can make you feel it in your bones with those deeper notes. It's all about quality over loudness. The build of this soundbar is typically high quality coming from Samsung. I found the setup to be a breeze and there were multiple options for use (Optical, HDMI, USB, Bluetooth, and Wireless). I didn't use USB and found the wireless option (requires download and signup through an app) to be a bit clunky and more effort than I like to spend. BT connection was as easy as finding the soundbar on the list of options and hitting connect. Within seconds I had great music playing directly from my phone with good 25-50ft range depending on walls. Setup via the optical cable was equally as easy although I'd recommend HDMI if using for TV/blu-ray as it can transmit higher resolution audio and specific signals that the optical cannot. The only drawback to HDMI are that the cords are so large and can be unsightly. Another potentially problematic area is that this soundbar is really large...and may be a little too tall for some TV stands so that it blocks the IR remote receiver (it did mine). More specifically about the sound...The highs and mid-range sounds were crisp and extremely clear--better than my current premium sound bar. Again, where this soundbar lacks is in the bass range. You just can't built a really good sub into a soundbar. This soundbar does have an option to wireless connect a rear speaker, but there were no sub options that I could find. It's perfectly fine for everyday TV listening and is definitely better than builtin TV speakers, but if you really want to experience your movies then you will need more bass or you will be severely missing out. Great clarity overall even if lacking in the bass area. In conclusion, I'd say this is an adequate soundbar for someone who just wants more than their TV speakers will deliver, but doesn't want to be transported to the scene with enveloping sound. Unfortunately, the soundbar comes at a relatively premium price and I know from personal experience and use that there are better options (especially for bass) in the same price range. It would be really hard to top the high/mid-range clarity so if that's what you want, fine. That said, the high/mid-range isn't going to "wow" anyone...The bass is what should really impress people and this unit just doesn't do it. I would also give it high marks for a really nice remote, but that is a minor aspect. Pros: -High-range clarity -Mid-range clarity -Ease of setup -Versatility in connection methods -Build quality Cons: -Severely lacking in bass -Price -Size is pretty large for a soundbar

I know this soundbar was supposed to be the "subwooferless" soundbar--- it does that somewhat, but is not that impressive. Don't get me wrong though, this product still deserves a 5 star, at least for me: 1) The bass is just right --> I came from a 5.1 surround system so I know the feeling, then after selling my house, I had to move to an apartment, so I got a pretty good 2.1 soundbar with a separate subwoofer-- it was enough for my smaller space. When I used this soundbar, I DID NOT HEAR RUMBLE. IF that's what you are looking for, you will miss it. This one does have ample bass, and I even maxed it out, but it will not have the same effect as one with a separate subwoofer. However, the bass is JUST RIGHT. Even on my 2.1 with separate subwoofer, you know that feeling when an explosion in the movie happens and you stop for a bit and imagine if it disturbed your neighbor for a bit? You will not have to worry about it for this soundbar—again, it is not rumbling but it is enough. 2) The surround is insane. I played Horizon Zero Dawn on it, since I figured, I wanted to see how dynamic the sound is when I move around. You will hear sounds around you like the soundbar is longer than it is. 3) The detail of the tones and sound elements are crisp. Dialogue is great. The way the sounds separate is clear. 4) Music on it is awesome! In my previous soundbar, the sound sounded muffled and it didn’t really throw good music out. In this soundbar, it immerses you in it. This one is a winner!

The item was an open box and Best Buy did not properly describe, therefore when it arrived it did not have the ability to use. There were too many parts missing.

    Amazing Soundbar

Seems I am the first to review Samsungs latest soundbar. I got this when I returned the vizio 4551 5.1 setup because I was having issues with the subwoofer cutting in and out. Granted I'm not sure if that was the fault of the system or that I live in an apartment with highly congested wireless signals all over the place. A problem I think all wireless subwoofers are going to have until they get off open band to a reserved licensed frequency that will ensure less interference. Anyway I went back wanting to find a sound bar with a wired subwoofer or at least a wired option but they're aren't any. Then I came across this beauty, which wasn't there the day before when I bought the first sound bar so must be meant to be, stating the subwoofer was built in, no wireless needed! (though have the option to add the wireless surround and nay even a dedicated subwoofer) I figured what the heck. I got it home and it does NOT disappoint. The sound is INCREDIBLE with the speakers being able to maintain clear sound and a nice rich bass with just enough FEEL to connect you with what is happening in the movie. My favorite part is it does this at low volume levels superbly (and mid levels too) where my previous systems the sub would come in and out at low level becoming a distraction. Now at higher levels the subwoofer shows its limits but still clear sound, but for someone like me who lives in an apartment, blasting the bass isn't really an option. But make no mistake this provides room filling clear rich beautiful and when needed deep tones and its all in one single bar. No wires, no pairing, simple. The only issue I had as a note to save others time is that it didn't come with an hdmi cable just optical so I bought one, a nice GE 24k gold plated 4k passthru certified HDMI cable to use with ARC. I got it setup and sounded amazing but the volume and power wouldn't work well with my TCL Roku TV remote and would disconnect and not reconnect after I turned one or other off. I played forever and was about to settle for two remotes and optical when I decided just on a hunch to try a random cable I got with my steam link...and bam it works perfectly now, both volume and powering on and off with tv so thought I would share try another cable first before fiddling too much with your tv /bar settings. All in all an amazing sound bar that thus far I couldn't be happier with. Its a great price for a phenomenal sound bar with the option to expand it with surround or extra sub in the future but frankly I really don't think it needs it. If you live in an apartment/limited space or an area with high wireless congestion this is definitely the bar for you. If not it probably still is. Should my experience change as time goes on I'll be sure to update my review but so far this is definitely a 5 for Samsung.
