Solidly built with a good feature set.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This unit offers great sound with surprisingly deep bass (almost Bose-like). Even with the bass level all the way up, since that's where I like it, the effect isn't overwhelming. Movie dialogue is clear, and Pandora music sounds very good, even at lower volumes. There are moments when the audio will "cut out" when using a fiber optic cable connection to send audio to the soundbar from the TV. I didn't see the same issue with my previous audio setup, so I'm not sure where the problem actually is. I can say that I don't have the same trouble running HDMI straight to the soundbar, and then to the TV. As other reviewers have noted, the soundbar doesn't really "fill the room" when listening to music, and I've noticed the same. Music definitely sounds more "open" when listening on the "Surround" mode. Too be fair though, a soundbar isn't the best platform to deliver an open and dynamic high-fidelity audio experience. I play most of my media via a variety of media players and streaming boxes , and this is a vast improvement over TV speakers, with very good bass, and in a space-saving package to boot.

Surprising Sound - nice remote and miniscreen
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Soundbars seem to be getting better and less expensive. Sound is good and there are options to increase bass, and provide a surround sound platform. Great behind the grill lighted feedback (when changing volumes or input etc). There is still some compromise as far as the flatness of the frequency response and overall sound with all of these but much easier and less expensive than a true 5.1 system.

Amazing Sound
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Samsung - 3-Channel Hi-Res Soundbar with Built-in Subwoofer has amazing sound quality and easily connects through Blu tooth in seconds. We have another sound bar that we use outside when projecting movies, but decided to get another one for indoor use. It is sleek and sounds great. We have used it to watch tv and also listen to music through Pandora on my iPhone. I would highly recommend this sound bar to others.

Makes Watching TV An Event!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This soundbars built in sub-woofer and 9 directional speakers (180 Watts total) delivers a full sound range and sensation nearly equivalent of a surround sound system without the need for running wires to satellite speakers. I used the optical digital audio connection for a really solid clear signal from my TV to the bar. Setup really couldn't be easier. You can also stream music from your phone or other Bluetooth compatible device, run Pandora or other streaming music services thru it as well sourced from a smart TV or other Bluetooth device with crystal clear sounds being pumped from the sound bar as if it were a stereo. And the sound from the flat screen TV no longer come out of the back and bounce off the wall before they get to your ear, so no more straining to understand words while being blasted out of the room with special effects and music from the movie or TV show. Mounting brackets are included but we didn't use them. The TV is wall mounted on an articulated mount and we placed the speaker on the table below the TV. This soundbar delivers a lot of enjoyment for what it costs. I highly recommend it.

Thank you for purchasing this Samsung HW-MS650 Soundbar System. I am sorry to hear that you were not completely satisfied with its sound performance.
Have you tried the Surround sound control that adds depth and a sense of space to the sound effect?
There is a dedicated button for the control on the remote, located on the left just below the Play button, and is labeled "Surround".
Each time you press this button, ON and OFF alternate. When it is ON, the unit play sound over all the speakers.
When it is OFF, you can hear the sound of the original source channel from several speakers.
Here is a link to the remote-control diagram and details of its functionality on your user manual (page 16): http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/content/EM/201709/20170912120703044/HW-MS650_ZC_AH68-02994R-04-170904.pdf

Great sound and easy setup
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The overall look and feel of this soundbar is high quality. The sleek finish is very nice and compliments any home theater setup. I installed using the fiber optic cable straight to the TV. I then changed the TV sound output to "external speaker" and I was ready to rock and roll. I then tested it out on movies, TV shows and music. I used the different preset EQ settings and they all mostly sounded nice. The "standard" setting was a little underwhelming but the other settings had nice clear highs and some nice lows. I believe the built in subwoofer will really stand out once it has been broken in. That was the case with my last Yamaha soundbar, but right out of the box the Samsung sounded great. I then downloaded the Samsung Multiroom app and connected via wi-fi. This was a great experience as I did not have to pair it via bluetooth. This means the bluetooth does not have to be on thus draining your battery. The soundbar does have bluetooth as well, but the wi-fi is so much easier once connected. The soundbar also integrated automatically to my TV remote control so I just hit the power button like normal and use the volume buttons like normal, only it controls the soundbar volume. Very convenient. Overall I love this soundbar. I have it setup in my basement with my 55" TV and all of my old video game systems and an Amazon Firestick. I am now actually going downstairs more just so that I can experience everything through this soundbar. I love it!

NIce, but missing bass
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am coming from a system that contains a sub so i was a little skeptical on the "no need for a sub". I was correct. While the sound is good and does fill the room well, i miss the sub woofer. If you combined this bar and a sub you would have a great sounding system. I did notice that the further away from the unit I sat, the more bass I heard. The Bluetooth and WIFI connections work great. My wife connects her phone to the speaker and listens to Pandora during the day using the Android app. I did have trouble with hookup. I was trying to run my HDMI out on the back of my receiver to the soundbar and i could not get it to work. I ended up running HDMI direct from my dish provider and that worked. Trouble is it prevents me from using my reliever to change inputs etc. Perhaps this can be addressed through tech support . Bottom line, if you are looking for a nice sound system with some nice features (WIFI, Bluetooth streaming) and don't need the booming bass you will be happy. If you are like me that likes the solid boom of a sub, then this might not be for you.

Decent Sound Bar
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Large (deep) sound bar, not very compatible with tvs on stands, better for those wall mounted. Good sound but anything's an improvement over TV's speakers. Much improved bass but it doesn't come close to a stand alone subwoofer. Easy to connect/set up. If you have a wall mounted tv, give it a try.

A Cut Above the Average Soundbar
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The basics: This soundbar is a step beyond your average soundbar. For starters, and this is what caught my eye and probably yours too, it has a built in subwoofer. The benefit of which is you have all the sound of a 2.1 audio system without the bulk of the extra point one. Audio quality is very good for my setup, tested using one of the classics: Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen. The piano at the beginning was pretty good, and I’m sure if I got it loud enough it would feel like it was in the room (just like my neighbors would be if I did). I was also catching bass notes on mediums I wasn’t expecting to hear it on - YouTube was the winner here, as several times I was watching some of my favorite streamers and noted that there was depth that I had never heard before. Where it gets amazingly better though is the direct Spotify integration along with a number of other streaming services. The device appears as a WiFi connected speaker to the app and enables audio ranges I’ve never heard from my hits - deep bass notes, high treble notes. All without major changes of configuration. (Fun fact: the default device name is “Invalid” in my app. Oops.) Another cool feature is that while the device might not have CEC, it has the capacity to turn on automatically when it senses audio over the (provided) optical audio cable. If that doesn’t do it for you, it can also listen for power button events for any TV remote or any Samsung TV remote such that one button turns on your entire setup. My TV (a Vizio) didn’t work with it, but the manual does mention that there is a chance your device won’t be supported. The device does have the capacity to perform a software update when you install their app on your Android or iOS phone, so I guess there is a chance that my TV will be supported one day. Until then, I’ve got a Harmony remote. Where I think they could shore up their game: A good portion of the content above came from reading their manual. Unlike a number of devices I’ve gotten, a number of the above features were not immediately apparent from the remote and without reading the manual, I wouldn’t have known about them. The major area I think that they are shortchanging customers on is an enforced lock into the Samsung ecosystem. You can buy another sub (if you so desire) and external speakers for rear audio. The problem here is that the only way you can link any of these is if you pay additional cost for a Samsung-only wireless dongle. At this price, the minimum I would expect is for this functionality to already be a part of the device. That said, I would much rather see a generic sub connection cable versus a port that looks oddly like a micro-USB port. Either way, if you want to add more speakers here, be prepared to buy more Samsung devices. Nothing more, nothing less. Honestly, though, I’ve tried searching the Best Buy website for this mystical adapter and the soundbar - I’ve yet to find it. The manual specifies to check https://samsung.com/support to determine what subs would be compatible with this soundbar. This is about as useful as telling me to Google it. Finally, the device is heavy (13.7 lbs to be exact). Understandably so given it has a sub in it. But this adds another problem for mounting along with the choice of mounting plane. The device is meant to be mounted horizontally, such that the widest portion is facing flat and extending out around 5”. This works if you mount it directly to the wall, but most other mounting points (like the Rocketfish Soundbar Mount) are going to start running the risk of damage when you combine the weight and stress in a different plane than they were designed for. Might end up building something such that I can mount my soundbar under my TV again. Last second comments: As I’ve mentioned before, a cursory look at the manual can instantly tell you that if you don’t have a Samsung TV already, you weren’t part of their target market. Out of the box, cross-compatibility seems to be something that could use a bit of work, given that I needed to do some extra setup for what I would consider standard kit for higher end home theaters. They put a display on the device, which is nice. It makes setup a ton easier. That said, they have programmed it such that it only displays a single line of text in the middle showing no more than 4 characters at a time. Updating the device shows that they can do two line display, but that is the only place it has become apparent that the display is so large. Mildly annoying is that when you change the volume level, it will show you the number you’re at (cool), then show you the input you are at. Personally, I can’t see a reason to have the input shown. If I am changing the volume, I hope I know where I’m at. Final, and major nitpick on this thing. It ships in a blue steel/gray case. Samsung shipped a white power cable with it. The only setup I can think of that would be using white across the board would be an Apple setup. And to date, I don’t think I’ve ever seen an all-white home theater.

Perfect for an apartment!!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had a different soundbar for about the last year that had a separate subwoofer. I live in an apartment and I just could not have that thing booming to where it deserved to be without upsetting the neighbors. When I saw this one available, I had to give it a shot. Not disappointed at all. The bass is perfect for my living room in an apartment. Would I prefer more bass? Sure but I would need a house and that's just not an option for me. Without doing anything in setup, the soundbar automatically comes on when I turn my Samsung TV on, it doesn't turn off with the TV though. My TV remote also controls the soundbar volume which is quite convenient. I'm using the optical cable for the audio. I does offer wifi and HDMI as well. Along with ability to connect your phone or other mobile device via bluetooth. That's a really cool option with today's soundbars. I can't recommend this enough if you need to worry about disturbing others with thumping bass. Movies and music sound rich and full without rattling the floors. There are 9 speakers inside and it weighs about 3 times as much as my other one. Love this!!

Good sounding bar, little high on the price.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First off, this unit is solid. It seems to be built very well and is a beautiful unit. The features and specs are good and about what you expect to see in most soundbars these days. Sound is clear and precise and dialogue/vocals are these speakers strong point. The built in woofer will be plenty for the majority of customers but for those that have already had a unit with a separate sub or a dedicated surround system may find the bass output lacking. For a smaller and quieter bedroom unit, this is a fine unit. But I don't feel like it has enough punch for a living room. Price wise, this is in the upper end and given the sub par bass performance I do feel like this unit is a bit overpriced. As I mentioned before though, the dialogue and vocals are really good. Overall, it is a nice speaker and is built well. I do recommend it, but for a bedroom setup and not as a primary living room/home theater type setting.
