Does Not Work With PS5
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this purely with the intention of using it as an external SSD for my PS5. Unfortunately, it would seem that the drive is incompatible with the PS5. I receive 2 error messages as I attempt to use it: 1) “The data transfer speed of this USB drive might not be fast enough to use it as USB extended storage.” 2) When I proceed anyway, it tells me I “Can’t format the USB drive.” Please see the relevant photos. Thus, I cannot recommend this SSD to anyone who plans to use it with their PS5 as it simply will not work.

Neat, rugged little hard drive...fast too
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. There really aren't downsides I can see with this hard drive. If you need something with a bit more space than your typical USB drive but not as bulky as most other external drives, this is a nice little pickup that should suit just about anyone's needs. While it's bigger than your typical USB drive, it's not bulky or cumbersome as you would think. Dimension wise, it's a bit larger than a business card and neatly fits into your hand. The weight is really negligible IMO so it'll fit easily into your backpack or purse without issue. This is a "rugged" model so it's dust/water resistant, I can't really think of a scenario where this would be beneficial for me however, if you're a field photographer or doing anything tech related out in the wild blue yonder, this might be a nice pickup if you need to offload files from memory cards or something. For me, I'm a desk jockey so this will work perfect for me for transporting files and what not from home to office. It comes with two cables; One USB-C to USB-C and one USB-A to USB-C. For max speed, the USB-C to USB-C cable is ideal however it works fine with the USB-A cable since this is USB 3.2. 1TB, for me, is perfect for just about everything. From decks to large spreadsheets; there's no issue for me with running out of space on this drive . The only small thing I can pick out from this is that the coating on this drive is kind of a rubbery, matte finish. It picks up lint quite well and in great quantities so this should be something of interest for you. I kind of wished it was a smoother texture however, this being somewhat of a rugged drive, I guess it makes more sense to have this finish instead. I have oodles of USB drives lying around so I think it might be time to consolidate those into this one and have this as my main on-the-go drive.

Rugged, Blazingly Fast, Spacious Solid State Drive
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Samsung T7 Shield 1TB External USB 3.2 Gen 2 is a blazingly fast solid state storage device. Ruggedly encapsulated in a rubberized enclosure, this drive is easy to hold on to and is perfect for on-the-go use. Built to withstand a drop up to 9.8 feet, so throw it in your briefcase or purse, plug it in on the go; it is always ready to overachieve. It has an IP65 rating for protection from water and dust. With USB 3.2 Gen 2 and PCIe NVMe, this speed demon features sequential read/write speeds of up to 1,050/1,000 MB/s. It is built in your choice of 2) enormous capacities: 1TB or 2TB and packaged in 3) colors: Blue, Black or Beige. This solid state drive is compatible with Mac, PC, Android devices, even gaming consoles. I tested it on my Mac Pro and it was instantly recognized & ready for plug and play action. Most impressive to me was how I can edit 4K video on the fly with this drive, thanks to the ridiculously fast speed! CONCLUSION: I love this solid state mega drive! It does not slip out of your pocket or fall off of a portable desk if nudged, because of the rubberized case. It is the fastest, coolest running drive I have ever tested. It earns my Highest Recommendation!

Rare lemon, update after I get a working drive
||Posted . Owned for 5 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I picked up this SSD prior to a deployment in Sep. When I finally got around to using it in Dec I connected it to my iPad, the blue light came on then consecutively turned off. I asked another friend to use his Mac & the same thing happened. By the time I got home in Feb there was no sending it back so I contacted Samsung. They started a return/repair exchange with me so technically I have not had a chance to experience how the drive functions.

Can't go wrong
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This a solid, solid state drive (pun intended). Plug and play ready to go, or install Samsungs software (installer included on the drive) to encrypt and secure your data. The drive comes with a USB-C to USB-C cable, and a USB-C to USB-A cable, so you can plug it into a computer that just has a traditional USB port, or a computer or phone with USB-C. The drive itself is pleasantly small, and has a unique, soft rubbery/silicon that actually feels kind of nice to the touch. I'd be a bit concerned about how it handles abuse (cosmetically), but it otherwise feels solid, and is rated for moderate impact, and is dust proof and water resistant. Meaning this drive can be used or stored in otherwise harsh environments. Also, since it is an SSD, that means no moving parts, meaning increased reliability and durability. Also, being an SSD, it's way faster than your run-of-the-mill SD Card, Memory Stick, or external hard drive. I measured 300mb/s using a standard USB3.0 port, and 500mb/s connected to a USB-C port.

OUTSTANDING – FAST, PORTABLE, ENCRYPTED SSD
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Samsung Portable T7 Shield is Samsung’s newest model of small, portable, high-capacity Solid State Drives (SSD), with incredibly fast data transfer speed capabilities. Samsung has long been a dominant manufacturer of semiconductors and is a highly respected and popular choice for flash memory and SSD devices. Samsung developed many improvements in solid state memory technology and has cultivated an outstanding reputation for their solid state drives. The new T7 Shield is really a standout for several important reasons! I have been using a Samsung T7 Touch portable SSD for over two years, and have been extremely impressed with that drive’s speed, security, durability and reliability. Upon this new Samsung T7 Shield becoming available, I was confident that it too would be an excellent portable SSD, and a smart choice. The T7 Shield is available in 1 TB and 2 TB models with black, blue or beige cases. My 2 TB model has a black case with a rubberized elastomer material over a rigid shell, and it appears that it should prove to be both rugged and durable. .This ruggedized device is IP65 rated for water and dust resistance and is claimed to be tested as drop resistant up to 9.8 feet (3 meters). The dimensions of the T7 Shield are 3.5” in length x 2.3 in width” x 0.5” in thickness. It weighs only 3.47 ounces. It is lightweight, compact, rugged and fast, which are the primary reasons that I like the T7 Shield a great deal. Portable SSDs are extraordinarily convenient and useful for many purposes. Video content producers and photographers find them to be essential. Given their large capacity and high data transfer rates they are ideal for those purposes as well as data backup and storage, and notably, for use as a portable file store when using multiple computers, and particularly when travelling away from home or primary workplace. Creating several hundred still images and video files in an average week, as well as creating many large editing and workflow project files demands large capacity, fast, reliable drives. Coupled with the need for portability of all of that data, and more, selecting the best and most reliable portable SSDs that I can find is extremely important. I rely on Samsung portable SSDs and thus far, I remain very satisfied with them. The Samsung T7 Shield is ideally suited to both working with your primary computer as well as when away from a primary computer. The T7 Shield is compatible with Windows, Mac, and Android devices, as well as gaming consoles. I have not used the T7 Shield with a Mac or a gaming console, but I have used it with Windows and Android devices, as well as Chromebooks. One of the very significant advantages of the Samsung T7 Shield, and of major importance when selecting the best SSD for travel, is the security features embedded in the T7 Shield. Password protected AES 256-Bit hardware encryption makes this a very secure storage device, especially if travelling with sensitive data. Furnished in the box with the T7 Shield are two high-quality USB 3.2 Gen 2 cables. Both a USB Type-A to USB Type-C cable and a USB Type-C to USB Type-C cable are included. The USB cables are a generous 17.5” long which is very convenient and useful, and much better than the ridiculously short USB cables which are supplied with drives from some other manufacturers. There is a printed Installation Guide included, but the PDF only User Manual must be downloaded from the Samsung website. Once attached to a computer, the Samsung T7 Shield immediately mounts and displays a read-only partition containing the Samsung Drive Management Software. I also located the Samsung Android App in the Google Play Store. The T7 Shield is preformatted in exFAT, which is appropriate for Windows PCs, Macs and Chromebooks. Once the software is installed, the process of password creation is simple and straightforward. The T7 Touch can also be used without password security (unlocked drive). Password creation and management requires the use of the pre-loaded Samsung Portable SSD Software. I have been using an outstanding Samsung T7 Touch portable SSD for over two years. The user interface screen of the Samsung Portable SSD Software recognizes all attached compatible drives, and allows easy and efficient administration and management of each of the attached drives from the home-screen. The management software functionality is used for setting up or modifying the drive security, and for obtaining updates for the software and drive firmware. The drive management software is not compatible with, and thus not installable on some devices, such as Chromebooks, but that only limits administration of security features. The software was compatible with my Android phones, but none of my Chromebooks, including a very new Chromebook. The T7 Shield SSD hardware works perfectly well with all of my devices including my Chromebooks. The installed software runs as a background process occupying 0.4 MB of RAM on my laptop when the drive is mounted. In addition to the preloaded Samsung Portable SSD software, Samsung Magician Software is an SSD management utility that is available for download from the Samsung website. It is an excellent utility for monitoring the health of all compatible Samsung SSDs and for easily reading the drive specific information including current firmware version. Unfortunately, other features of the Samsung Magician, including diagnostic scans and performance optimization are not available for use with the T7 series drives. Samsung Magician monitors and displays the drive temperature (in °F or °C). The data from Samsung Magician validated my personal observations that the T7 Shield has excellent temperature control. The Samsung T7 Shield does of course become warm when attached to a computer, and generates heat in proportion to activity when it is actively in use. However, the empirical data demonstrates that the Samsung T7 Shield runs relatively cool for a portable SSD, even when there is significant drive activity. The T7 Shield was running at 83°F the majority of the time, and did not exceed 97°F even when there was a very high level of drive activity. Samsung employs their Dynamic Thermal Guard technology to monitor drive temperature and degrade performance when the pre-defined threshold is reached. It is probably safe to assume that the drive has internal heat sinks and/or phase-change material to mitigate thermals. It is my understanding that Samsung employs a single layer PCM (Phase Change Material) to somewhat mitigate the heat generated by active use (presumably encapsulated paraffin wax). The T7 Shield has a small LED lamp on the end of the housing next to the USB-C connector. Blue LED illumination indicates drive activity, and red illumination indicates stopping/dismounting the drive. The high transfer rate specifications for the Samsung T7 Shield are a very impressive 1050 Mbps for Sequential Reads and 1000 Mbps for Sequential Writes. Those fast data transfer rates are attributable to the PCIe (Peripheral Component Interconnect Express) bus, NVMe (Non-Volatile Memory Express) memory and USB 3.2 Gen2 connectivity. Testing the Samsung T7 Shield with CrystalDiskMark 8 produced results of 1065.91 MB/s Sequential Reads and 1003.14 MB/s Sequential Writes. Samsung Magician reported 977 MB/s Sequential Reads and 965 MB/s Sequential Writes. Of course there are even faster SSD drives available, notably those using the faster Thunderbolt 3 interface, such as the Samsung X5. However, the T7 Shield supports the fastest data transfer rates available for USB interface SSD drives, and further the Samsung T7 Shield actually does achieve the extremely fast data rates claimed by the manufacturer. The Data transfer rates did not appear to be affected at all by AES 256 Bit hardware encryption. Overall, the Samsung T7 Shield is absolutely great. It offers large capacity, fast data transfer rates and password protected AES 256-Bit hardware encryption. It is very compact and lightweight and is ruggedized to offer protection from the perils of portability. Additionally, being a Samsung SSD is in and of itself a strong motivation for selecting the Samsung T7 Shield. The Samsung T7 Touch is outstanding, and I highly recommend it!

Small, Fast, Rugged
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.INTRO The Samsung T7 Shield is the newest 1TB external SSD from Samsung. It is an NVME drive inside an external enclosure and wrapped in a rubberized sleeve. It is shock rated for drops and is IP65 rated against moisture and dust intrusion. The drive includes a USB-A to USB-C cable and a USB-C to USB-C cable. Samsung claims a theoretical throughput capability of up to 1000MB/s. SYSTEM CONFIGURATION My test rig is the Asus ROG Zephyrus. It has a 12th generation Core i9 processor, 16GB of DDR-5 RAM, and Windows 11, with all the latest updates and drivers installed. The Asus sports the latest generation Thunderbolt 4 port, capable of transfer speeds up to 40Gb/s, which is more than enough to test the limits of the T7. Windows 11 immediately recognized the drive after connecting it and no further interactions were required to get the drive up and running. I downloaded the latest version of the Samsung Magician software and CrystalDiskMark to get the information from the drive. I am happy to report this external SSD is equipped with a USB 3.2 Gen 2 interface. While not as fast as Thunderbolt 4, USB 3.2 Gen 2 is still very fast and supports speeds up to 10Gb/s or 1250 MB/s. TEST RESULTS AND SAMSUNG MAGICIAN SOFTWARE How did the T7 Shield perform? Speed are listed below: Sequential Read: 763 MB/s Sequential Write: 866 MB/s Both results are with Queues of 1 and Thread Counts of 1. Excellent performance. The drive is speedy and responsive. While it doesn’t live up to Samsung’s 1000MB/s claim, it comes very close. Closer than most drives do with manufacturer’s advertised speeds. For comparison, I included a screen shot of the speeds from the latest Western Digital Black 2TB Game Drive. I know it is an apples to oranges comparison, putting an SSD up against a HDD, but the differences in performance are phenomenal. If anyone is still using an external HDD for storage and is on the fence of whether they should upgrade, the performance improvement should answer your questions. The Samsung Magician software, as always, is polished and very refined. The software allows you to manage nearly every aspect of the T7 and is user-friendly and intuitive. Samsung wisely includes the option to password protect the T7 which is a great feature for travel. NEGATIVES This is one of the very few times I am at a loss for words. FINAL THOUGHTS The Samsung T7 Shield is an excellent external USB SSD. It is compatible with Windows, Mac, and Android. It is small, light, and is rated against dust and water intrusion. The rubberized covering helps to protect it from the inevitable drops. Samsung has long been a standout in the world of solid-state drives. Their drives always boast some of the best performance and warranties in the business. I see the T7 Shield fully living up to Samsung’s well-deserved reputation. Easily Recommended.

Compact SSD and Outstanding Read / Write Speeds!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have been using Samsung SSD in laptops and gaming desktops and got Samsung - T7 Shield 2TB for transferring photos / videos between systems. It came with Samsung - T7 Shield 2TB, USB-C to USB-C cable and USB-C to USB-A cables. Setup is very easy. My windows 11 laptop recognized the drive immediately. I have installed Samsung Portable SSD software which will allow to name the drive as well as to configure with password for added security while accessing the files. I have tested the drive performance with Crsytal Disk Mark and impressed with read and write speeds. With USB 3.2 Gen2 and and PCIe® NVMe™, the sequential read / write speeds reached up to 1050/1000 as advertised. I have transferred large files from PC to T7 and all files transferred much faster than other SSD drives. The high-tech rubber exterior with dynamic thermal guard controls the heat to main steady performance for larger video editing projects. T7 Shield is IP65 rated, and data is protected again water and dust. The rugged design and advanced outer elastomer provide additional durability to endure a 9.8-foot drop. I have tested this drive windows PC, MacBook Pro and Android Phone. It is compatible with all platforms including gaming consoles. It comes various colors with blue, beige, or black and the stylish rubberized grip prevents slipping from hand. It has 3 years manufacturer warranty. I was impressed with design, sequential read / write speeds, and large storage. I have been using this drive to edit large video files / photos and it is working flawlessly without any issues. Samsung make quality SSDs and Samsung T7 shield is another outstanding product from Samsung.

In a word... Fast.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. For me, external SSDs are a bit of an oddball. They tout loads of performance, but being limited by the interface speed of USB. That said, this drive is fully capable of saturating the maximum speed of a USB SuperSpeed 10Gbps interface. To start, the drive is packaged well in a small, unassuming box. It includes 2 different USB cables which I'm fully appreciative of (one type-c to type-c, and one type-a to type-c) which is a breath of fresh air that they dont assume one particular interface over another. This packaging, like so many others recently, appears to be made of thin cardboard and fully recyclable without having to be creative with removing plastic or clamshells or anything. It seems an odd thing to call out in a review, but I feel like this more sustainable direction that companies are headed in, particularly those the size of Samsung, are worthy of note. Now for the drive. It's small in size, about the size of a deck of cards, but not quite as thick. The drive is covered in a rubberized exterior which is nice to the touch, although it picks up dust like crazy, which for anyone with a computer, can be a little bit of a concern as the drive will likely sit near a dusty area. The rubberized exterior also makes it difficult to brush off that dust, but honestly it does give it a nice luxurious feel. The drive itself is also heavier than expected, though not excessively so. The performance of the drive, as I hinted at earlier, is top-notch for an external drive. When connecting via USB-C 3.2 it fully saturated the interface, I would have no issues with using this for high speed copies or backups in any situation. I believe even XBox OneX/S or PS5s would be fully capable of utilizing this drive as external storage as well, which while not as quick as the internal drives, would be plenty fast from an external perspective. I've included a screenshot of the ATTO Disk Benchmark that shows the immense speed of the drive. All in all, this is a well made, solid performing external SSD. I heartily recommend it.

Samsung T7 2TB External Drive
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’m absolutely thrilled with the Samsung T7 Shield 2TB External SSD! From the moment I unboxed it, the build quality stood out. The rugged design feels durable and robust, and I love that it’s IP65 water-resistant, which gives me peace of mind knowing it can handle accidental spills or even a bit of rain. The performance is outstanding. Thanks to the USB 3.2 Gen 2 interface, it delivers incredibly fast read and write speeds—perfect for large files and video editing work. Transferring multiple terabytes of data was a breeze, and I noticed no slowdowns even during intensive tasks. Its compact size makes it extremely portable, while still offering 2TB of storage, which is more than enough for my files, backups, and on-the-go work. The blue color is sleek and modern, adding a nice touch of style to its practical design. It’s easy to set up hardware encryption for my sensitive files, and I feel confident knowing my data is protected. I couldn't be happier with my purchase! Highly recommend!

Small, fast very portable drive
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This drive is fast, durably built and light at 2 oz and is about the size of a credit card. It would be a great addition for anyone but especially those traveling. Samsung is a leader in hard drives and this unit does not disappoint. I recommend but be sure your computer can take advantage of the speed. Drive is preformatted as GPT and exFAT. I tried speed tests with exFAT and NTFS (after reformatting) and saw little difference. In the box; Minimal instruction manual that has print so small it was virtually unreadable to my old eyes. So out came the strong reading glasses. 2TB black T7 drive – 2 oz and 3.4 x 2.2 x 0.3 inches in size. Claimed 1050 MB/sec read and 1000 MB/sec write speeds. Comes with a USB-C to USB-C and a USB-C to USB 3 cables. The cables are around 17 inches in length, which should be more than long enough for most. Positives; I would suggest installing Samsung Magician app. I already had Samsung Magician installed as I have internal Samsung drives. It will check firmware, etc. for drive as well as giving you the option to encrypt the drive with a password. The drive is nicely constructed with a protective rubber cover that is wrapped around an aluminum unibody case. The cover not only protects but helps you get a nice grip on the drive as well as helping secure it wherever placed – no sliding. It easily fits in your pocket and is built to be tossed around stating it can be dropped from 6 feet, is water/dust resistant. I have to say that I did not test any of these but given its construction I don’t doubt its claims. Internally I assume there is a 2TB M.2 PCIe SSD drive, but I could not determine the exact model. Speed tests: I like to use CrystalDiskMark for my speed tests as writing to/from other drives to test speed is impacted by the speed of the other drive. This way only this drive is test. I used my new Samsung Galaxy 360 laptop. It has Thunderbolt 4.0, USB C and USB 3.2 connections. Using Thunderbolt, I got 1070 MB/s read and 1016 MB/s write – both a touch higher than rated top speeds for T7. Using USB C & USB 3.2 connection I got nearly identical 463 MB/s read and 455 MB/s write speeds- still fast. I did not notice any change in temp on the drive when running my speed tests. To give some context to those speeds; I ran same test using a Samsung 2TB USB 3.0 external “spin” drive I have had for a while. There was little difference between Thunderbolt, USB C and USB 3.2 – they were all around 113 MB/s read and 114 MB/s write. I also ran a test using a self-built external SSD using a KIOXIA 512GB PCIe drive I had left over from an upgrade to another laptop, using a SSK case. Thunderbolt gave 1075 MB/s read and 979 MB/s write. The USB C and USB 3.2 speeds again were nearly identical with 457 MB/s and 444 MB/s write. Speed tests for the Samsung Laptop using internal model MZVLQ512HBLU-00B 500GB drive I got 2207 MB/s read and 1191 MB/s write. Interesting that the read was more than twice the speed of the T7 but write was about the same, probably due to buffering(?). Also, to give a little context on pricing – in November 2018 I received a G-drive 500GB portable SSD drive with price of $150. My Samsung 2TB USB 3.0 external drive was $110 a few years ago. 3-year limited warranty Negatives; Activity light is on the same side as cable connection, so just a tad hard to see unless you flip drive Yes, the T7 is a tad pricey but considering size, weight and speed advantage as well as the nearly 0 chance of it being damaged if dropped – it is a great option, and I would highly recommend it. My only caveat is to be sure your system can take advantage of the speed this drive can provide.

Rugged Storage Option
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.A few years ago I transitioned to ONLY solid state for long term and speedier storage solutions for all my digital content. I have several Sandisk Extreme portable SSDs that I have been very happy with and having the option to compare with this product was intriguing to me. Speeds were similar in transferring larger 4K video files from drones to harddrives via my M1 Macbook pro. I was using USB-C and had no problem with connectivity with my apple products. This harddrive just works and transferred a great deal of data in a very timely manner. I do like the construction of the Samsung hard drive and feel the durability is in the same realm of the Sandisk options. The Samsung has a coating that sometimes collects some dust and dirt if you throw it in a hiking bag but it cleans up rather quickly. The value in having a rugged storage solution is beneficial to be able to count on the data being protected regardless of the environment you need it in. I would absolutely recommend this hard drive for all your storage needs

This symptom may occur on some Mac OSXs due to the Apple policy that requires user approval when installing third-party software not directly distributed by Apple.

Greatly Satisfied...
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The first thing that catches your eye about the Samsung T7 Shield is its small size and light weight. You can easily carry it anywhere. It is not a burden to carry it in your laptop bag, and I like its light and compact design. The Samsung T7 Shield boasts a read speed of up to 1,050MB/s and a write speed of 1,000MB/s. When I actually transferred a large video file, I was able to transfer data at an amazing speed. This is incomparably faster than the speed of a typical external HDD, which will be a great advantage for video editors and designers who need data transfer speed. It has a cover that is resistant to external impacts and an IP65 waterproof and dustproof function, so you can use it safely in outdoor environments. The Samsung T7 Shield is perfect for anyone who needs high-speed data transfer, people who often carry their laptops, or anyone who wants to keep their data safe. Especially for those who are new to external SSDs, you will be greatly satisfied with its light weight and fast speed.

Was delivered to the wrong house
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Was delivered to the wrong house. Waiting for PayPal to correct this and return my funds. Best Buy is useless in helping me resolve this over the phone. I'm complaining to the Better Business Bureau and the NYS Attorney General. Buy elsewhere.
