I tried to return it 2 days after the 30 day window closed and Best Buy refused it. This was over the holidays. I won’t ever shop there again.

We appreciate your feedback on The Freestyle 2nd Gen's brightness level. If the image is too dim, try adjusting Picture Mode, Contrast, Brightness, or Sharpness settings.
Go to Home > Menu > Settings > All Settings > Picture > Picture Mode
...and select the mode that best fits your usage:
Dynamic: Makes the picture brighter and clearer in bright viewing environments.
Standard: Is the default mode suitable for general viewing environments
Movie: Is suitable for watching Projector or movies in a dark room.
You can also manually fine tune your image under Expert Settings. Go to: Home > Menu > Settings > All Settings > Picture > Expert Settings
Please also make sure you've got the latest firmware version installed. You can check this by going to: Home > Menu > Settings > Support > Software Update.

Stopped working a year later

I called Samsung to get help and they told me it would cost $269 to fix. I’m really disappointed because it felt like the perfect projector for the setup in my bedroom.

A Little Projector With Big Functionality
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.If you are looking for a compact projector that can easily be taken on the go and set up anywhere, then the Samsung Freestyle Second Gen with Gaming Hub Portable Projector may be just what you are looking for. This projector works great in so many different applications. Out of the box, the first thing that you will notice is just how small this projector is. It is only seven inches tall and about 4 inches wide while weighing less than two pounds. All you really need to do is pull it out of the box, plug it in, and you are halfway there. Ou will need to decide what you will use for a screen. Since it is portable, sometimes I just use a white wall in my house, and it works fine. When you power it on, you will go through a normal setup where you input Wi-Fi network information. You will want this as it provides you access to many free apps with the system as well as updates. Unfortunately, there is no input for Ethernet connection so everything will be wireless. Also, if you want to plug in a gaming console, you will need a special cable. An ordinary HDMI to HDMI will not work. You will need a mini-HDMI to HDMI cable. This cable is not included but can be purchased relatively cheaply. One of the nice features of this projector is that it can produce an image from 30 inches in diagonal to 100 inches. The projector has an auto level and auto keystone correction capability which makes it easy for you to line up your projector. The projector also allows you to rotate the projector so you can show the image anywhere. If you want, you can even easily show images off of the ceiling in your bedroom. As for other features, the projector comes will several preloaded apps but also allows you to download many more. The free Samsung TV gives you free programming to many older shows. One channel even has endless repeats of the making of the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders. There are literally hundreds of channels there. If you have other apps, you can easily download those as well. You can download Netflix, Hulu, ESPN, Fubo, PBS Kids, Disney Plus, Amazon Prime Video, YouTube, and even Apple TV to name a few. You can even share the screen from your iPhone or other mobile device. As for performance, it Is among the best for what I have seen in this size of projector. The picture is not the brightest in the world. You can few it is a room with lights on, but it really works best in a dark room. The picture is full HD 1080p, so it does look good. The sound is projected in all directions. For the most part, the sound quality is good. If you used this in a loud environment, it may be hard to hear. But for small groups, there should be no problem with the built-in speakers, especially if the volume is turned all the way up. As for using this projector as a gaming projector, it will work for having fun. If you are using it for shooter games or other online gaming, lag may become a bit of an issue for you. But to suggest this should only be used for gaming is a little unfair. This projector can really do so much more. In the end, I really love the Samsung Freestyle Portable Projector. With the ability to turn any room, any wall, or any ceiling into a screen, it really is a fun projector to have. Then you have the bonus that this projector is portable. So, if you are looking for a portable projector that packs a lot of features in a little package, this may be the one for you. I recommend this projector to anyone.

It’s not just a “plug and play” style projector. Also I was told the picture would be good quality even with light around, but the opposite was actually true. The worst part is I’m stuck with this projector because Best Buy only has a 1 week refund policy and it has to not work properly for me to be able to return it.

Came quickly. After opening the box I saw it only said freestyle not freestyle gen 2. Did some more digging on the model number and found they had sent me the wrong projector. Beat buy swears it’s the right one but I can assure you the model number for the first gen and 2gen do not match up. Other than that the gen one isn’t bad. Just wish I coulda gotten my gen2 as I paid the price for the gen 2.

We appreciate your thoughts on the design and image quality of The Freestyle 2nd Gen. If the screen looks distorted, use the Keystone function: Home > Menu > Settings > All Settings > General & Privacy > Projector Settings > Keystone
If the screen looks blurry, use the Focus function: Home > Menu > Settings > All Settings > General & Privacy > Projector Settings > Focus
1. Move the projector to the left or right to adjust its angle. Alternatively, adjust the top and bottom angles until the screen shape becomes rectangular.
2. Move the Projector back and forth to adjust the screen size.
You may also want to try adjusting Picture Mode, Contrast, Brightness, or Sharpness settings.
Go to Home > Menu > Settings > All Settings > Picture > Picture Mode
...and select the mode that best fits your usage:
Dynamic: Makes the picture brighter and clearer in bright viewing environments.
Standard: Is the default mode suitable for general viewing environments
Movie: Is suitable for watching Projector or movies in a dark room.
You can also manually fine tune your image under Expert Settings. Go to: Home > Menu > Settings > All Settings > Picture > Expert Settings
Lastly, please also check the following:
1. Remove the film covering the lens, as this can affect performance.
2. Position the device with the “Samsung” logo on the bottom of the unit.

A mega Media and Gaming device for 24/7 enjoyment

With my Samsung Galaxy S9 phone, I was able to have setup completed automatically with the Smart Things app. All I did was plug in the Samsung - Freestyle 2nd Gen with Gaming Hub and my phone started connecting by itself through its Smart Things app. I was up and running in a few minutes. The home page looks like a You Tube page, except the content is ten times more to view. The media and gaming content is exhaustive. Samsung TV Plus offers hundreds of live television channels providing a universe of different programs of every nature. I will never run out of something to watch, with an abundance of free content plus whatever subscribed content I own, I will be engulfed all day using The Samsung - The Freestyle 2nd Gen with Gaming Hub FHD HDR Smart Portable Projector – White. Focus is automatically done, whenever I move the Samsung Portable Projector with Gaming Hub forward, backward or side to side. I used Alexa as my AI to give commands and help explain the functionality of the Samsung Portable Projector. I can play Xbox games without my console, by just using my Xbox Game Pass Ultimate with its Xbox app. All of the genres are included. I can choose from indie, family friendly, shooters, action and adventure, fighters and brawlers, strategy, simulation, and RPG games. The Gaming Hub paired my controller easily. All of the most desired apps are included with the Samsung Portable Projector. Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, Apple TV, Hulu, You Tube, Sling, Tubi, Freevee, and much more. The portability allows me to easily transport it to any of my friend’s home and share the enjoyment of gaming, watching a TV program or videos. The Samsung - The Freestyle 2nd Gen with Gaming Hub FHD HDR Smart Portable Projector – White is truly a mega Media and Gaming device for 24/7 enjoyment.
