I was so disappointed with this item. I could not connect the HDMI. I was as well forced to have it on the floor most of the time so as to show well. I had to return it. I never thought it will require other items to best suit my needs.

Without manual override for some settings you are stuck with the unit automatically sensing what it should be doing. Most of the time it gets it right, sometimes not though. Not nearly bright enough for most situations. Your room better be quite dark to get a decent picture.

      JonK,

I’m sorry to hear you’re not fully satisfied with The Freestyle’s Auto Focus performance. Please check the following, which may improve the issues you’re experiencing:

      1. Remove the film covering the lens, as this can affect Auto Focus performance.
      2. Position the device with the “Samsung” logo on the bottom of the unit.
      3. If you skipped the update during the initial setup or set up via SmartThings and an update wasn’t prompted, please check for available updates. Go to: Home > Menu > Settings > Support > Software Update > Update Now

If the image is too dim, try adjusting Picture Mode, Contrast, Brightness, or Sharpness settings.
Go to Home > Menu > Settings > All Settings > Picture > Picture Mode
...and select the mode that best fits your usage:

Dynamic: Makes the picture brighter and clearer in bright viewing environments.
Standard: Is the default mode suitable for general viewing environments
Movie: Is suitable for watching Projector or movies in a dark room.

You can also manually fine tune your image under Expert Settings. Go to: Home > Menu > Settings > All Settings > Picture > Expert Settings

If you need more help, Samsung is here for you. Please call us at 1-800-SAMSUNG, 8AM - 12AM EST, 7 days a week. Our LiveChat agents are also available by clicking on the ‘Support’ link on our website.

      MarylinC,

We appreciate your feedback on the response time, and for optimal performance, we ask that you please ensure you've got the latest firmware version installed on your Freestyle. You can check this by going to: Home > Menu > Settings > Support > Software Update.

You may also want to further optimize performance with the self-diagnostic tool, which checks memory, frees up unused cached memory, and closes background apps. Go to: Home > Menu > Settings > Support > Device Care > Start Device Care

      I hope these tips help.

I did not like this item. It’s not very bright, so tv during the day even in a dark room isn’t great. But the big issue is it’s advertised as a gaming hub, and it’s TERRIBLE. I have fast XFinity WiFi, and this projector treated it like 56k dialup. Or slower. It was moving one frame every 30 or more seconds. I have other Samsung TVs and they are all somewhat slower on WiFi (nowhere near this slow though) but work fine with a wired connection. This projector doesn’t have that option. It also refused to work with Alexa. I returned it within a week, and got a standard tv. So much better!

      • Movie: Ideal for darker rooms

For more control, you can also fine-tune your image settings under: Settings > All Settings > Picture > Expert Settings

I've always been fascinated by portable projectors, and the Samsung Freestyle Gen 2 is a great entry point into the world of projectors. From the moment I unboxed it, I was struck by its sleek, cylindrical design. Weighing just a bit over a pound, this little device promises big things, and it mostly delivers. The setup was a breeze. I connected it to my Samsung account using my smartphone, which was a nifty feature. The Freestyle Gen 2's automatic features like Auto-Leveling, Auto Focus, and Auto Keystone are simply outstanding. It didn't matter where I placed it; the projector almost always gave a near perfect, distortion-free picture. While the auto features had limitations, they were leaps and bounds above other projectors I’ve used. As long as you place the device in a decent location, it will correct to very close to perfect. This is probably the most impressive feature in my opinion, as this allows the projector to be used in very flexible situations. The image quality is surprisingly good for its size. The 1080p resolution and HDR capability create vibrant, clear images. I found the brightness to be quite sufficient for indoor use, though it struggles a bit in bright environments. The optimal screen size for me was around 70 inches – perfect for a cozy movie night. As long as you are using the projector in a dark room/location, it will provide an excellent image. Now, let's talk about sound. I didn’t expect much from the onboard speaker, but it was surprisingly robust. The 360° 5W speaker with its built-in woofer delivers a sound that’s rich and full, much better than what I've heard from other projectors in its class. As a casual gamer, I was thrilled with the Gaming Hub feature. Streaming games directly onto the projector without needing any extra console was a treat. The Bluetooth connectivity for my game controller worked flawlessly. I had lag at times while playing games, however it was good 99% of the time. Your miles may vary depending on your internet connection and wifi strength. The minimalist design extends to its ports as well, with just a USB-C and a Micro HDMI port, which I found to be more than adequate. The privacy-conscious side of me appreciates the ability to turn off the microphone. And the SolarCell remote is excellent. Performance-wise, it's not going to rival a high-end TV, but for a portable projector, it’s impressive. It boots up quickly, and navigating through the interface is smooth and intuitive. The added bonus of being able to power it with an external battery makes it even more versatile. I was not able to test the battery, but its nice that its an option to add later. In summary, the Samsung Freestyle Gen 2 has been a delightful addition to my tech arsenal. It's perfect for anyone looking for portability without compromising too much on quality. Whether for movies, gaming, or outdoor adventures, this projector packs a punch. It's a solid investment for entertainment enthusiasts who are always on the move.
