    DO. NOT BUY. Impending lawsuit

I finally bought this fearing my 10-15 year old HDs were going to die on me and take precious family memories with them. I should have known when more often this would suddenly eject itself. But using it so little the thought slipped my mind. Not even 2 years in and this drive is dead. "Insert disk" error on several PCs and devices. Come to learn WD is now being sued because the failures are so common yet ignored by them. These are being heavily discount often. DO NOT fall for it, WD is offloading bad products.

Worked great when i first bought it a year ago. After six months the drive quit. The drive doesnt show on my Apple Mac or Windows 10 PC. I tried a new proven working cable hoping that was the issue, but no luck. Not sure what to do.

It works very well but it apparently cannot be used for another android device after using it on a first android device without reformatting it. Not pleased about that!

Please allow us to inform you that the amount of current required to power this portable SSD device is approximately 1.1 amps. This SSD should work with most higher-end mobile phones that do provide sufficient power. However, we would suggest you check the same with your host device manufacturer. Price match was easy. Item arrived 3 days late. Poor shipping; NO packing material in the box. Haven’t yet been able to use because of family issues. Will update once used.

Faulty drives - bad firmware, you WILL lose data

Sandisk/Western Digital is aware of firmware problems with these drives yet they keep them on the market. Do some research, you WILL lose data if you buy this drive. At best, it'll randomly disconnect and reconnect, maybe causing some file corruption. At worst, I'll cause your whole computer to crash and shut down. Others are having the same experience. Manufacturer is in denial. These products should be pulled from the shelves.

Broke after 1.5 years and BestBuy won't refund me

Completely broke after only 1.5 years. There was no warning, no physical damage, nothing. I didn't even carry this with me anywhere. It was just plugged in on my home computer. Out of a sudden its stopped being recognized by any computer. The cable works. Absolute worthless. BestBuy refused to refund my money, since it is outside of the return window. Never did I have an external hard-drive stop working, especially after not even 2 years. I would not recommend this, unless you like loosing all your data. They should have refunded me, because this is unacceptable.

    Garbage SSD Drive

This drive is garbage due to it's Sandisk Unlocker program that is difficult to remove from the drive. It not only takes a lot of trial and error to get my computer to recognize it each time I plug it in, it also literally blocks access to my other drives on my computer. I'm using a 2 year old Dell, somewhat higher end laptop and I'm hardly an amateur when it comes to hardware. The portability function of this drive is also worthless because neither my work PC nor my other desktop will recognize this thing. Don't plan on taking this drive elsewhere if you plan on sharing files.

I was told just take it home plug it in. Well, a few days ago, I called the 800 number because of a warning from WebRoot. Your rep looked at my setup and all was well: desktop hard drive at 90% & ext. At 0%

It still works hence 2 stars, but larger capacity models have serious issues. Sandisk used to be a brand I trusted and Western Digital (who bought them) was in the past a reliable brand. I'm not sure what is happening with the quality of products now but I cannot recommend these brands' products anymore.

    Rugged, portable, fast storage

The SanDisk Extreme 1TB External USB Type-C (NVMe) Portable Solid State Drive is a rubberized, heavy-duty, small form factor, fast, portable storage device. I’ll describe my feelings about it based on what I used it for. I do some hobby cinematography shooting in 4k 24fps most of the time. That’s a pretty good amount of data that needs to be moving fast between devices and takes up lots of space. This device has not given me even a hiccup so far. I have transferred over 2 TB’s of data over the course of a few days. This SSD is significantly faster than any SSD I have owned. The fact that it's so ruggedly built makes me believe it will last a long time no matter what abuse you expose it to. If you are like me and need a fast, 1TB built to last portable SSD, this device is one of the best you can buy.

Do not purchase any of drive from this series. We use them in our video production team and they have been failing left and right. Western Digital who owns the SanDisk brand are aware of the failures but they are doing nothing but discounting the drives to empty the stock so they can get functional drives back on the market.

This SSD crashed after hardly using it. Will never buy this brand again. And from research I am not the only one who had an issue like this. I had to use a recovery utility to move my data off onto another SSD.

We're sorry to hear about your experience with the SSD. While our products undergo rigorous testing, issues can occasionally arise. We recommend checking the drive's status through your operating system's Disk Utility/Disk Management. Kindly ensure the drive is firmly connected to the port and test it with a different computer using a different cable. Bought this for storing a photo library, but there are issues with them failing. So I returned it and went with the Samsung one. I don't want to trust my photos to it.
