I'm not sure if this is in the stereo system itself, or the USB is defective, but I switched to a pricier USB brand and have had no such problems.

It is 3.0 so you do have to have a USB port and computer that can use this (most new computers do). Decent speed- not the fastest or slowest. For the price, is a great buy.
