"Read" speeds are almost always faster---usually double. The problem with "larger" flash drives for me is that i expect to store larger files, which makes the "write" speed equally important. In my opinion, if you have the extra cash, go for the "Extreme" line of Sandisk drives

I would much prefer that once you enter your password, it opens as any other USB storage drive would with the same UI as openingany other desktop folder.

I couldn’t figure out how to use the encryption feature. The software that you needed never downloaded properly to work. I got frustrated after a few attempts and ended up getting something else and just using this as a regular flash drive.
