The horizontal bar would have been over the top of the TV and visible. Its just the design of an older TV vs a new mounting design. Nothing wrong with the bracket, appeared to be easy to install.

They mount the TV extremely close to the wall, and look great. They also get installed/uninstalled with each show, and can stand up to the repeated abuse.
