Two days after starting it up, it failed. I had to spend additional money to buy a data recovery program. Not happy at all with it. I returned it for a refund.

I own over 6 of these drives at the 2TB size. Use them for PC Backups and as secondary storage for my Dish Network DVR. I have never had any issues with these drives - the are quiet and run cool.

DISH NETWORK HOPPER COMPATIBLE

Looking for an EHD to use with THE HOPPER? This is the one folks. I bought at 4 TB WD to use because my Dish Network installer said he was using a WD 3 TB and it was working fine. Well, I couldn't get it to work at all. Of course, mine was a 4? I tried to format it and let it run for a full day and it never would format. I bought it on-line but was able to take it back to a Best Buy store and they gave me a full refund - no problem. This time I ordered this Seagate 2TB from Best Buy on-line again. When it arrived and I used it, it worked flawlessly. It has it's own power plug and when I plugged it in, a blue light came on. I plugged the USB into the Hopper and it asked to format and I clicked okay. I was thinking it would take hours to format. WRONG !! It took about 5 minutes. Then I started transferring movies and TV shows and it's been working perfectly. In your screen where you access your movies, it will create an icon on the top of the screen that has whatever name you called your DVR. For mine, it says LIVING ROOM. This is where you click to access the movies on the new external hard drive. I now will have all the space on my hopper to record onto, but can also access the EHD with the click of a button and watch any of that content. You can also do the same from any of the joeys that you have. I've been watching stuff showing in the EHD on one of my joeys in a bedroom no problem. Once it's plugged into the Hopper, it's in the system and can be viewed by any TV. When you are doing the transfers, it allows you to click on a LIVE TV button and you can watch TV all you want while your content is being transferred. What you can't do, is watch anything off of the EHD while a transfer is going on. The transfers take a long time. When it is done, it pops up on your TV screen that it has been completed. In my case, I did transfers in groups. A 30 minute show takes about 5 minutes to transfer. Most of my transfer groups are 5-6 hours. I just set it and walk away or watch TV while it is transferring in the background. With the Seagate, when it isn't transferring, the blue light stays steady. While a transfer is taking place, the blue light flashed on and off. This lets you know it is working. Super feature. The WD unit I bought the first time didn't even have a light, so I had no idea if it was working. This SEAGATE is 2TB, so it meets the 2TB maximum that Dish says is the limit. Not sure how my Dish installer got his 3TB to work, but I don't care. I just know that this one does and I'm happy with it. If you need more space, you can just buy another hard drive, as the Hopper has 3 USB ports. You can just plug another unit into one of the other ports and have 2 of them attached. To be specific, I have a standard Hopper Unit. I will be upgrading to a Hopper 3 next month, so I bought this to transfer the content off of my old Hopper so I can view them on my new system. I could transfer them onto the Hopper 3 when I get it, but I won't. Why would I? I will just plug it in and be able to access it from the EHD. As soon as you plug it in, you can view anything on it just like the hard drive on your Hopper. Couldn't be easier.

Wrong photograph

This photograph is wrong. What is shipped when you buy this model number sold here, STEB2000100 , has a dimply diamond surface all over it. It is the current series Seagate Expansion. But this incorrect photograph is of the older model of the Seagate Expansion; model number STBV2000100, which has a smooth surface and a prominent printed white Seagate logo. Be careful; you're not getting what's pictured. It's a perfectly fine hard drive; older model or newer model, I've had both. Issue is the webmeisters at Best Buy have the wrong photo.

Drive is a great backup drive. We store a lot of image files on it, and use it for local imaging. USB3 is plenty fast.
