It was good then it started failing in a month.

The original drive lasted about 4 years, first replacement about 10 months and the second replacement less than 2 months. This is in my part time spare machine, use it 1 or 2 times a week. Now, I have a warranty replacement from Seagate, so I can replace the bad drive with the warranty replacement, send the bad drive back to Seagate and get another spare drive. It is easy to psychically replace the drive, but restoring the software takes days, about 5 years of Microsoft updates!

    Never get a Seagate

Seagate drives fail sooner than Western Digital or other drives in my experience. Lately even the refurb drives that I've gotten back after submitting the failed drive are DOA (Dead on Arrival). That means I bought the drive, had it fail in two years, spent money to ship it back for a refurb drive, and that was dead when I got it! I've had two other refurb drives die in less than a month on different systems which is even worse since I went through the restore process. STAY AWAY. I used to LOVE Seagate back in the mid 90's. Now I would not use them if at all possible! But when WD is not available, I'll get them in a pinch and then be ready to replace in 2-3 years. And yes I bought this drive to replace a dead Seagate. Ironic huh?

We were told that we could open multiple programs and would still run fine. It is way too slow and keeps freezing.

needed to get a new internal hard drive and this was the best for the money at the best speeds. was very easy to install and set up. it runs smooth and quiet and has decent space. for the price i would have liked to see a little more space on the drive, seeing how you can purchase a 1tb external for the same price.

My NetGear ReadyNAS uses Seagate Drives and this drive failed on me. Also, the model I purchased was the 1 TB model (SKU: 8490625 ), not the 500 GB model described above.

I bought this hard drive after my 2 500g Western Digital Drives went out after only having them for about 8 months. Through tons of WD headache, I switched. I've now had this Hard Drive installed for a little over a month, and I've had zero problems with it thus far. Additionally, I was very pleased with how well and how easy it was to install. Everything in the package to get you started. Would highly recommend this drive thus far. It's been awesome! Also seems a lot faster than my other 2 drives I had, and this one currently holds more than each of those ones did individually....

Initially I picked up a western digital 500. It had the same specs as the seagate, but it did not have the power adapter to convert traditional ATA drive plug to SATA so I could not connect it. I swapped it for the Seagate, which was slightly more expensive but conveniently included the adapter. I also found out that the Seagate has FIVE years of warranty as opposed to the 1 year for the WD. I have used WDs in the past and they are good but can't beat the 5 year warranty on the Seagate. The Seagate is FAST and quiet! 500gb is a lot of space. I put all my music and pictures on there and I still have 350mb to spare.

Bought it, slapped it into my DP G5 Tower, cloned it, all without any problems. Drive is fast and quiet. The five year warranty stands out as another good reason to buy.

Bought this 3 months ago to replaced my old drive been with me for about 4 years. I was kinda nervous that i might not be able to solved or replaced my old one since i never done it before,,all im relying is the video i watch on "How to" remove and install plus reinstalling my OS,doing a fresh install. Really amazed that i didnt even bother using the software provided since windows realized it on the beginning. Till now i never had any problems with this drive and i was happy with it...All that im wishing is,,,i wish i just jump on the 1TB Baraccuda instead of this 500 GB..but anyway thats my fault though,,lol,,Still,im satisfied with the way it performs and it operates really quiet.Maybe next time...Surely ill buy this brand again.

Good performance, easy to install, replaced an older 500GB drive with this one. Took all of 5 minutes to replace a failed drive on a MacPro, and I was up and running again.

This drive was easy to install, came pre formatted and the Win 7 install went flawlessly. To install in a Mac just use the disk utility. Good value with quick reads and writes and very quiet. Seagate quality has improved in the last year, let's see if the drive will go over 3 years with no failures.

    Great drive for little money!

This drive was intended for a custom-built computer with a boot drive dedicated to only Windows. The computer was built for light gaming, but also strong enough to power some of the demanding games on the market today and shortly into the future without forcing me to upgrade. This is just the drive to install applications and games onto. The games open quickly, with little to no hesitation even after 50% of the drive has been filled. The installation was quick and easy. The hardest part about installing this drive was taking both covers off of the Antec Nine Hundred Two case to slip the fan out and install the drive, which goes inside of that enclosure for extra air flow on the drive itself so isn't required on other cases (See Recommended Products. On the front of the case there are 9 portions, 3 of which are a fan, three more are a fan, and 3 extra drive bays.). The installation into the enclosure was very easy, requiring just to insert the included screws and sliding the enclosure back in. Note that installation varies on the way your case was built. This case just has easy installation into these enclosures. Basic system specs: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, 24 GB G.skill Ripjaws DDR3 1600, PNY GTX460 1GB (soon to upgrade to 560/580), 40GB SSD OCZ Vertex 2 (boot), Seagate Barracuda 500GB (app), Intel Core i7 2.8GHz Quad-core.

Easy HW replacement - not so easy copying from old

Bought this drive to replace a system with a RAID where one of the drives was failing. I needed to copy the old RAID to this new drive. The specs said there was software included to copy from an old drive. But this software could only be installed on a system with a Seagate drive. I needed to install the software before installing with the drive - so I had to use a variety of other software packages to get the copy done. The drive itself is easy to use and works perfectly so far.
