I bought this drive to install along with a controller board. The drive was easy to install. I use it for video editing. It gave me over 30 hours of space for video capture. I have been nothing but pleased with the drive. The installation was quick and easy with the SATA cables...much better than the old ribbon cables.

    Good HDD for the money

I've purchased 6 Seagare HDDs all together - 4 are in my Antec P180 tower configured as RAID 5 array and 2 in D-Link NAS case as RAID 1 (for backup purposes). Right now I'm doing a full system backup. This is like a stress test for all the HDDs - all 6 are running for number of hours with 100% load. What can I say - it runs great! Whisper quiet operation. I can explain low noise level in my desktop with great characteristics of my Antec case, but NAS server sits on my desk in front of me, and it is still extremely quiet. Another good thing about this HDD - low temperature. Rigth now (again after couple of hour of backup job) my NAS shows temp as 107F/42C, and my desktop's reading is 45C. I didn't do any read/write tests, so I cannot say anything about it. I will definitely recommend it to my friend. Especially if you wait for one of those BestBuy deals - $100 per HDD and additional $50 off if you buy it with NAS case (which exactly what I did)

Very nice replacement for the stock hard drive

This drive replaced a 5400 RPM drive that was purchased last year from a different company and then failed with no S.M.A.R.T. notice. I was impressed that the kit included cables and that I didn't have to buy anything else. The drive replacement was quick and painless and I immediately noticed that the 7200 RPM made a huge difference in my boot time. Installing the factory image was quicker, and day to day web surfing and gaming seem faster. I would definitely recommend this drive if you have budget concerns. It was well worth the cost - which was also cheaper online than in the store.

Seagate seems to have improved their quality

I bought two of these drives, one for back-ups and the other for PC use. They run quiet and fairly cool (noticeably cooler than the Seagate Pipeline model drive. Turns out I did not need either, but they will be put in to use when needed. Good price (however all drives have gone up since the flooding in Thailand) and value. One item to mention; this drive is slightly thinner so it will not work in a drive enclosure so beware.

I needed to replace the hard drive in my wife's PC. It was about 6 years old, and basically crashed. I found this drive online, felt the price was fair, and ordered it. I picked it up at Best Buy, went home and had it installed in just a few minutes. Because our PC is a bit older, I had to install the jumper for legacy SATA. Very simple experience and the PC performs as well or better than ever.

I bought this hard drive to run a separate OS with some extra HD space on my desktop. I've had no problems with it, and it does exactly what it is intended to do. I've owned this product for a little over a year now.

I have two of these drives, one for video editing, one for a server. I've been completely satisfied with them; they were easy to install and their performance has been excellent. The SATA cables are a huge improvement over the old ATA ribbon cables, both for ease of installation and for improved airflow inside the computers. Windows recognizes SATA drives without a problem. The disk comes with a CD that includes installation software (not needed, for me at least) and Seagate's BounceBack Express backup software.

    good, quiet hard drive

I've owned dozens of hard drives in my life, and by far this one is the most quiet. After a few weeks, I haven't heard a single sound from it. Previously owned a 10k rpm WD drive, and this one seems pretty good on speed. I actually find the silence a little annoying because the noise from my previous drives would indicate that some activity was going on. Now, I have to look at the PC's drive activity light to figure out if any background processes are still running. Overall, a good buy.

This hard drive is one of the most toughest and reliable hard drives I have ever had. It just does't want to go down. That's why I love products by seagate. I have been using this hard drive as part of my RAID system on my desktop and its been running without any problems for over a year. With features like Native Command Queing (NCQ) and cache prefetch capabilities, this thing is fast enough for an average user running at 7200 RPM.

All the Harddrive you'll ever need

We bought this harddrive while building a computer for my fiance. We ordered one online initially (from another vender), but it arrived DOA, so we decided to go somewhere more trustworthy. We knew if we had a problem, best buy would take care of it for us. The data transfer rate is good and the install was very easy with the SATA connection. This is as much harddrive as you'll ever need, unless you take lots of videos.

I switched from other hard drive manufacturers to seagate and must say that it is the best decision regarding computing anybody can do. The hard drives are fast, very quite and frankly don't really warm up that much. The warranty is really nice and the website quite well designed, if you are interested in getting tools/utilities. Great hard drive!!!

Reliable Seagate and the Disc Wizard is GREAT

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

We've used Seagate for many years. Eight of our computers are on all day from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM and we get reliable usage from Seagate. We recently purchased a new hard drive from Seagate and it came with the DiskWizard software which allows you to clone your C drive WHOA what a great idea. Every computer we own has an extra drive "Cloned" from the original C Drive. Once a month during our down time we Re-Clone the second hard drive on each computer to bring it up to date. When we have a burn out at least we only lose a month or less of data. You MUST have at least one Seagate hard drive in each computer for this to work.

Got this after my original internal harddrive got ransacked by viruses. Very reliable, haven't had one issue yet and it's been about 4 months. Quick, too. Everything loads when the harddrive is accessed almost instantly.

I got this to replace my original hard drive which was presenting with frequent crashes....the instructions are great and the software it comes with easily transfers all the data from your old harddrive to the new one. I am nor a computer geek, I am a Realtor and was a little intimidated by replacing a harddrive, as I had only done a keyboard hardware change before. No lost data and less than 1 hour.

    A complete kit, easily installed...

Installed in a new HP Vista based machine, work perfect. Purchased Seagate based on past experience plus the kit contained both SATA cables (data & power) which WD did not (data only and local stores did not have them). -Don't use the included installation program as it can cause issues. Learn to use the Disk Management tool included in Windows (XP & Vista) as this allows easy setup, partitioning and formatting. Entire process from out of box to ready to use took 15 minutes maximum. -Data transfer is quick and trouble free. Drive powers down if not used frequently (I use it file storage) but wakes for use in about five seconds when accessed. -Bonus is longer warranty than other manufacturers. A good buy overall.
