    Barracuda

Excellent HDD. Installed Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit with no problem. It's pretty fast and I don't hear it at all but then again the sound may be muffled a bit by my computers fans. Got this HDD for my custom build on sale (for a mere hundred dollars haha!) and not one bit dissapointed. Very useful cloning software if you plan to upgrade your PC. For the price and space you get it's almost five star but like I said in my cons it can't quite beat Western Digital's Velociraptor 10,000RPM HDD, but for the price it's a very good trade off. I got this running in my Rocketfish computer case, Gigabyte M750SLI-DS4 motherboard, AMD Athlon 6400+ dual-core CPU, 8GB of OCZ DDR2 1088 RAM, BFG Tech 8800 GT OC graphics card, HP CD/DVD +/-R DL disk burner, BFG Tech 650 watt PSU. All this cost me under a $1,000 as oppose to buying a name brand system like HP or Gateway. This hard drive rocks.

Always Liked Seagate Over Other Competition

I bought 2 Western Digital 250 Gig Hard Drives when I first bought my system. Within a year's time I replaced the main hard drive with O/S twice using Western Digital's RMA program. Needless to say I was unhappy with having lost so much information. The only reason I bought them was because the local place did not have any Seagate Hard Drives around the capacity I was looking at getting (I was gonna get anywhere from 180-250 Gig at the time.). Anyway, after these hard drives failed I started looking at other places to buy a replacement, and keep the replacement as a backup. So, I upgraded to a 500 GB Seagate Hard Drive and now I hope to never lose a hard drive again.

    Not whisper quiet

I've had Seagate drives before, and they were whisper quiet, so when I read the description and some of the reviews here, I figured this HDD would be as advertised. Disappointing is how to describe the volume of the grinding. The speed is great. Just be sure to remove the jumper that limits the transfer speed to 1.5 Gb/sec if you have a motherboard and/or an SATA-2 HD controller that can handle the 3.0 Gb/sec speeds. It comes out of the box with that jumper installed. If you have an older motherboard or controller that are SATA-1, they do not support auto speed negotiation with newer 3.0 Gb/sec drives and you will need to leave the jumper in place in order for your system to boot and/or recognize the hard disk. I don't know when manufacturers switched from using SATA-1 to using SATA-2, but my computer is 2.5 years old and I have the newer standard.

Very quiet drive, relatively inexpensive, and very easy to install on my 2006 Mac Pro (took only 10 minutes to install and get ready to reinstall from backups).

IT WAS ONLY YESTERDAY THAT I JUST RECENTLY BOUGHT ME A SEAGATE 500GB SATA ALSO CALLED SERIAL ATA INTERNAL HARD DISK DRIVE (HDD) FOR SHORT BECAUSE MY COMPUTER WAS A 6 YEAR OLD COMPUTER DESKTOP SO I THOUGHT MY OLD (HDD) ONLY 200GB SERIAL ATA INTERNAL HARD DISK DRIVE COULD USE A LITTLE UPGRADING NOT REALISING THIS SEAGATE 500GB (HDD) BOOSTED MY COMPUTER'S PERFORMANCE NOW TO ME THAT'S GOOD CONSIDERING IT WAS AN 6 YEAR OLD COMPUTER AND NOT TO MENTION THAT THE PERFORMANCE WAS NOT DOING SO GOOD EITHER ALTHOUGH BUYING THIS (HDD) I WISH IT HAD A 32 CACHE BUFFER SIZE INSTEAD OF A 16 CACHE BUFFER SIZE AND I WISH THAT THE ROTATION SPEED WAS 10000 INSTEAD OF 7200 OTHER THAN THAT THE MORE EXTRA (HDD) SPACE IS GOOD AND THAT IT DID BOOST MY PERFORMANCE

I have both IDE and SATA Seagate drives. They're fast and quiet, and I haven't experienced any problems with them. The IDE is being used on an older PC, the SATA on a new Mac (in an external enclosure).

I've had one of these for almost two years now. It's got a good data transfer speed, and runs fairly cool. it's handled the tower being knocked around a few times while spun up, and hasn't lost any data as a result. Still kickin' as strong as the day I put it it.

    Bought 07/02/2008 - contained 7200.11

The Seagate 500GB SATA/300 package can have one of three drives: the 7200.9 (slow & noisy), the 7200.10 (fast & moderately noisy), or the 7200.11 (fast & silent). Which one you get is pretty much random. I bought mine from BestBuy.com on July 2nd, 2008, and it had the newest Seagate 7200.11 drive. I'm very impressed with it - other than the jumper being annoying to remove, there's nothing negative to say about the drive. It's great!

Great drive for the price! Installed very easily, easy to follow instructions. Cloned my old drive, swapped them around, and programs (especially large ones) load soooo much faster.

I had a Seagate Barracuda in my Dell computer (came with it when I bought it new) but I killed it when I stopped it midway defragging , so did some research and bought a new one, installed it without any problems, loaded my OS (Windows Vista) and loaded perfectly and still working flawlessly to this day (bought it in October '10) thinking about geting another when I get the money.

Seagate is one of the best brands, according to my husband, for hard drives. He never has any trouble installing them and they always work the first time. I like Seagate because it makes my husband happy so I can just use the computer without listening to him complain about having to always replace the harddrive.

    Great Value

I purchased this product for my Home Server which means it is on 24/7 so dependability is essential and the price is secondary. I selected this manufacturer because I just experienced a triple hard drive failure in my server so I was not about to purchase more of that brand and Seagate drives had never failed me before. This smaller Seagate was purchased to be the server book drive. The SATA interface is very easy to install, instantly recognized by the system, and once formatted and ready to go is essentially "Install and Forget". And that is great in a server. I wish the price had been a bit less (who doesn't in these times); but reliability is worth the extra cost. Seagate has been around a very long time and their Hard Drives show it.

I recently purchased this drive to replace 1 of the two 250GB SATA inside my XPS. I have bene a fan of Seagate drives and this purchase was a no brainer. The price was on point, maybe a few dollars more expensive then some online resellers, but in store purchase = no shipping & the ability to have the drive the same day.

    A Slight Inconvenience

On opening the box, there was no interface cable or power cable. I had to go back to the store and was given a new box after making sure these items were included as advertised! Really a very strange thing to happen and annoying. Anyway, drive installed easily as a storage device, runs very cool and quietly. You really don't even need to run the included CD and DiscWizard. Great buy for the sale price of about $55.
