    Excellent hard drive....

I bought three of these hard drives and they have all been working over a year now with no problems at all. I do have hard drive fans on each of them to keep the temps down as I do a lot of video editing. I would recommend this drive over the WD drives as I had several of them fail within a short time.

    Great Replacement HDD

I purchased this HDD to replace a failing 320GB 5400 RPM HDD for business purposes. I cloned the original (so as not to start completely over). It is working flawlessly right now. Time of course will tell. I normally run Windows Defragmentation every week to keep the drive as fresh as possible. I have personally not had many issues with this brand as I build and repair computers all the time.

    Another great drive

I have been in the IT business for over 20 years. Our first hard drives were the size of an All in One desktop printer, had 10 M of memory and cost over $2500. How things have changed. Seagate - I've never had one fail prematurely. The fact is that about 5 years is all you can expect to get before you had better start looking for another one. All my Seagates have made it that long. This one so far is no exception. It is just plug and play. I do not understand the others here who say their computer can not see it. Sounds like an error between the screen and the chair. These, like all the others before them, have installed in any computer I have built with no issues whatsoever

    SATA DOES work with XP/W2K

someone reported that "Doesnt work with win XP "If you are not running VISTA and/or do not have a floppy drive do not buy this or any other SATA drive. Because SATA wasnt completed when XP came out you have to load the OEM drivers on via a floppy disk. Considering they dont make floppy drives anymore, its quite the headache. " None of this is true, 3 1/2 floppy drives are available from many dealers also I have 10 SATA Segate Drives installed and running in 6 networked computers 1 of which is running XP and the other 5 running W2K. If you do not have a floppy drive in your computer you can download the "drivers" from Segate and burn them to a CD/ DVD or save them to a USB key chain drive. You just can't beat a Segate.

what is there to say. It's a hard drive. Does what all hard drives do "store" I have owned Seagate hard drives in the past and not once have had any fail. "Knock on wood". But truth of the matter is, it does what it says and that is that.

Bought this hard drive to replace my old Maxtor 20GB drive from a few years ago. Took me longer than I'd wanted to install it, but now that it's in, it's working fine. Finally, all my stuff won't be cramped up on the old hard drive. Great deal!

    Better Check the Warranty

    Posted .

I looked up the current sales ad like I always do, and saw that BB had a Western Digital 500 gig Sata on sale. I also checked for the same size hard drive from Seagate, and read in the specifications that it carried a 5yr warranty part & labor. Great right? A no brainer right? WD for 64.99 with a 3yr warranty or pay 10 dollars more and get a Seagate with a 5yr warranty for 74.99. So off I went to my local BB, which is a 45 min drive, but I told the sales rep why I wanted the Seagate, and he says "Oh Yeah" "Best Warranty in the Industry" all the way to the check-out counter. I trotted out to my car with a smug "yep, mission accomplished" got up this morning to install the drive, and in big white letters right on top of the box, ONE YEAR WARRANTY. Called BB, and customer service rep doesn't understand why the description says 5 yr warranty, and oh yes ...he has several Seagate drives himself, and gives me Seagate's customer service hotline, but why call, I told him I checked the serial number on their website, and sure enough, its only good until October, 2013. I'm glad I didn't just open the box, but now I have to make a phone call and explain to the person that I'm replacing the hard drive, well I da da da didn't get the right one? More time and nobody has the answer, and of course it's Sunday. Buyers BEWARE!!!

    So far, so good

    Posted .

Installed this drive when the OEM drive (also a Seagate) gave notification that it was going to fail soon. Like most people, I have tons of photos and music files that I really didn't want to lose so I bought an external drive to save as much as possible. Turns out, that was just an insurance policy because the software that accompanies this drive "cloned" the old drive and I lost nothing. Once the drives were synched, I just unplugged the old drive, turned the PC back on and everything was still there. During the cloning process I was notified that two sectors of the old drive were not readable so it may not have been flawless, but the drive it was reading was the problem. It's as easy as any hard drive would be to install and the software worked well for me. 500 Gb for $80 (on sale) was easy to take too.

Purchasing parts for your PC can get expensive but since all I required was this internal hard drive it was cheaper than buying a new PC and rather simple to install.

Bought this 500GB HD on sale for $100. I don't typically purchase Seagate products, but couldn't beat the price/value. So far so good. Came included with SATA data and power cables, which other brands did not which was the clincher for me.
