Customers are saying
Customers are enthusiastic about the ample storage capacity, ease of use, and the convenient USB ports of the Seagate Backup Plus Hub. Many appreciate its compact size and quiet operation, along with the reasonable price for the offered features. A few users noted that the cooling system could be improved, and some found the included software less intuitive. Overall, the positive feedback on storage, usability, and price outweighs the minor concerns.

Disk Failure after 6 days
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This product failed after 6 days. Up until that point, it was great! Luckily, I was able to recover most of the data from a back-up I took prior to setting it up on my network, but I did lose about a half a terabyte of data.

Crashed and I had to buy another
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Crashed and I had to buy another one... Could not exchange as all data I had uploaded would have been lost so I had to buy a second one, take home and pull all of the data from one to the other. AN EXCRUCIATING PROCESS!!! Got it all moved over finally, returned and am waiting on the credit.

Not for Macs
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a terrible external HD for Macs. File searches are slow and incomplete, and it often doesn't mount on to my computer so I have to restart or unplug it from the USB port.

Good external hard drive for shucking
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It's an external USB 3.0 hard drive. It works. If you're buying this to shuck it and get at the drive inside, as of this writing (12/27/16) it is doable. You'll need something to pry the casing apart (I used those plastic cellphone opener tools - the guitar-pick looking things) and then it's fairly straightforward from there. The hard drive uses standard SATA/power connections to attach to a circuit board containing the USB controller and the USB hub. The drive is a fairly uninteresting ST4000DM000. Note that this almost certainly voids the warranty. Run some sort of disk check before you open the casing as it is held together with plastic clips that you will probably damage.

PSA: Will NOT work as PS4 extended storage
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm writing this review mostly to warn others thinking about getting this as an external hard drive to use with their PS4 now that the 4.50 update has hit. Apparently, because of the "hub" part - the fact that it has 2 USB ports - the PS4 will refuse to use it as an external hard drive. When you try to format it to be used as extended storage, you'll get the error code CE-41899-1, which when looked up on https://support.us.playstation.com/articles/en_US/KC_Article/PS4-External-HDD-Support means you should "Connect the USB storage Device directly to the PS4." Evidently because of the USB ports, the way the drive is set up there isn't a "direct" connection being made. Since this seems to be more Sony's fault than Seagate though (for not allowing it's use, and for not being clear to begin with that this is the case), I'll give it 4 stars. Sounds like an amazing hard drive, but not the one I apparently need.

Good backup drive
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a great backup drive with tons of usable space. I got this for pretty cheap a few months ago and I have this as my photo backup drive since. Originally I wanted a drive to carry around and use out in the field, but alas this is not it. It works great on a desk, but it's poor plastic build and separate power cable means that it is going to be anchored to a table for some time. Overall this is a great drive if you want a lot of space for cheap, as long as you are willing to give up some portability.

FANTASTIC
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This product is quiet, fast and reliable. I was able to plug it in and use it as an external drive right away. I would recommend this product to anyone looking for an additional hard drive that could be used for a desktop or laptop.

One problem
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Good speed as far as I can tell. The bad thing is that one of the two USB ports does not work. I have tried it on two different computers, so I don't think it's an issue with my system. That is why I cannot recommend this unit.

Great for Backing up Photos
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought a camera and took to many photos so off to Best Buy I went to get an external hard drive. The one I wanted was out of stock but this works just as well. Was a little more pricey than the one I had hoped to purchase.

Cable missing & should have bought the Mac version
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I thought I was buying a new hard drive. The usb cable was not included and it's an odd one - standard plug to standard plug. Seagate is sending me one but I would advise you to look at the drive before you leave the store to make sure you have the cable and power supply. Also, because I have a Mac, I have to reformat it. I should have just ordered the Mac version of the 4T online since they don't stock it in the stores.

Do not trust this product for Mac!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this product three days ago to help with storage of video files to work with on my mac for an upcoming project. The night before the project was due (today), the drive crashed. I contacted Seagate and they advised the drive corrupted. They do offer (for sale even if under warranty) a recovery program for use with pc but it does not work with mac. If you want to pay more fees, you can physically send them in the device to recover data, but that is not covered by warranty even though the device is less than a week old. I trusted this device with important files. Don't make the same mistake I did.
