I have to search in their web site how to set up the hard drive without reformatting the entire drive ... Need to download a additional driver in order to work with Windows ..

Got this drive on sale for $109 so for the price, you can get 4TB of portable storage for a steal. BUT...the quality of the drive's enclosure is terrible. You can feel the sides actual depress with small amounts of force. The "lid" of the case feels as though it would easily come off with just a little bit of force using your finger nail. And there are no rubber feet or anything to keep the plastic casing from sliding around. Bottom line, cheap storage traded off for very cheap casing.

Hard drive crashed 2 weeks after purchased and I lost 17,000 pictures. Seagate said it would cost $600 - $800 to recover the data. I have had several other Seagate external hard drives and never had a problem, however, will never purchased another Seagate after this!

I can't use it and I think the time limit is up on allowing me to return. The reason I can't use it is that the sales clerk at Best Buy was not qualified or did not know what he was doing. I saw that it had the word MAC on it & question him that I thought it was for MAC systems only & asked for one for my DEll PC. But he insisted & ensured me that it was for both type of systems and that it would work on my computer (which is not a MAC). So I trusted his judgement & weeks later when I finally had time to do my project with it & tried to use it I found out that he DID NOT know what he was talking about. I will be very disappointed when I go back to the store to exchange it for the correct type and they won't exchange it. I make try to get there today and if I do I will follow up on this review later.

I scannot open the back up on my surface to save my data

Bought it, used it for about 3 weeks and one day it just quit working. Never left my desk, never dropped–just quit working. Tried to return to Best Buy, of course they won't accept it. And, as I know from previous experience, Seagate tech support is sub-par. So, this has turned into a chore. On the bright side, it did break before I had a chance to transfer ALL of my important documents, photos, etc. to the drive, so it was nice that it happened soon enough to not destroy everything..

I bought this external hard drive to back up my dying Mac, but every time I try to back it wouldn't open the drive. I couldn't transfer file to a new system.

I've had hard drives die on me after YEARS of use. That is to be expected, but this one died less than 9 months after I bought it. Do not buy this product!

I have no idea how much data I have lost, but I have only had this for a month. Very annoyed!

I needed something to save all my files and this unit did the trick

Worked perfectly as TimeMachine backup until it failed after 22 months. Getting replaced under warranty but, of course, backups are gone. Will be adding a second drive to ensure backups are available. At this low price seems like reasonable option.

I bought this external to back up some files. I had to reformat the drive to work on a windows machine without having to install the software that is required the make this work.

While I have other Seagate Drives, this one was well protected but only had about 6 backups on the drive and suddenly became unreadable. It now shows that it is at full capacity when I used the Seagate dashboard. Complete waste of money and listed data.
