Frustrating
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had high hopes, with using a device with a good name like seafarers, I thought I would have a better experience then what I have had. The files do not get backed up automatically, all of the devices have to manually be backed up to it. The file transfer speeds are very slow, even with a LAN connection. Very disappointed.

Simply did not work...
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Was excited by initial look at this. Able to store data wirelessly from all devices on home network...to include iPhone, iPad, MacBook Pro, and Windows. Did all as directed in instructions, connected with home network and.....would not recognize any of multiple devices. Reread instructions, downloaded all apps required again and...did not work. Called customer support and no help, though nice about it. End advice...good idea, but not yet usable...ended up buying old fashioned backup drive that plugs in by same company and works great (see review of that).

Don't Do It!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Tried the first generation and it lasted all of 6 months before it died. Seagate charged me $100.00 for diagnostics and then $700.00 for data recovery (and returned the recovered data on a standard external hard drive). Tried THIS version, and when it started dropping the connection and not being recognized at all, I returned it after one week! This time I didn't keep ANY data on it as I was NOT going to be financially hosed by Best Buy OR Seagate!

Works great!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The unit worked great right out of the box. I have it connected over a gigabit ethernet to my Mac Mini. It's storing about a terabyte of videos and other files. It took about 10 hours to do the initial transfer with my USB drive plugged into the Seagate's USB 3.0 port (the 3.0 port is the one on the right side of the unit, not the back which is 2.0). Now I leave the USB drive plugged in and I see it as a network share along with everything else. I plan to also use the Seagate for my work files with the Windows machine at the office using SDrive. All in all I am pleasantly surprised that everything works as advertised. A great purchase.

I recommend going with the WD
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. From the moment I bought this I had multiple problems on 3 different computers, 1 of which is brand new running Windows 10. Followed the very simple instructions but ran into issues like not detecting the drive, or getting hung up forever in the backup process (stuck at x% for over 24 hours, stuff like that). Unknown errors that couldn't be looked up etc. Spent way too much time trying to fix it myself with google and seagate FAQs and whatnot. Fixed some problems while encountering others. I tried to speak to tech support multiple times but it seems they only work during regular work hours, no weekends or nights, which makes it hard for someone else who works full time to get anything resolved. When they didn't answer their phones on President's Day (is that even a real holiday?) I decided I spent enough time on a device that should be more or less plug n play. Traded it in for a WD which worked flawlessly from the start. Except Best Buy couldn't give me a refund for the Seagate because they don't have an agreement with them whatever that means. So I tried again directly with Seagate and they refused to give me a refund because the warranty only covers a replacement. Luckily I found someone sympathetic at Best Buy who was willing to refund me because he himself was familiar with Seagate's horrible support. Later, three other Best Buy employees agreed, with negative experiences with Seagate. Best Buy: If your employees all agree that Seagate support is bad, and if you have no agreement with their company to get reimbursed for faulty products, then you really should take their stuff off your shelves. I acknowledge that once in a while you will inevitably pick up a faulty electronic device off the shelf, and that's not the company's fault, but I think it's my right as a consumer to try out the other brand when this happens and when my entire experience with the first brand has been bad. If you don't support this then you shouldn't sell the company's products in the first place.

Poor user interface/Cloud Management
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I normally do not write reviews, but I would hate for anyone to have to go through the headache of doing everything right for hours of setup, to find out Seagate dropped the ball. After transferring photos and documents from my personal and work computer, I attempted to sync my Seagate Personal Cloud to Google Drive. After numerous attempts of the process hanging up, I decided to just use the Seagate Media app. This app is out of format for iOS devices (meaning font is overblown and pixelated), crashes consistently, and doesn't even show thumbnails of photos stored. I transferred 11,000 photos to the hard drive all with 'jpeg #' type titles. How is anyone supposed to find a photo they want to show when you have to select each photo and hopefully land on the one you want, that is if the app even loads the photos or doesn't crash. I personally don't mind dishing out money for a more stable experience, but the higher priced models only give you more storage space with the same terrible user interface. If you use this as a home network hard drive however, it is a much better experience. I'll give it two stars since that portion DOES work, but when "Personal Cloud" is clearly the target selling point on the box, your applications supporting that cannot be as inconsistent and outdated as they are.

Not installing
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I placed this device on one of my 1GB switches and it does not setup. I put it directly on my wifi switch it does not setup. Very poor instructions, even the internal instruction links dont point to answers. What is supposed to happen is when you plug it into your wifi router its supposed to setup on your network and then you can see it on your machine under networks. Nothing happens the white light on the device just blinks like crazy even way past the 10 minutes it says it needs to setup. If the device cant connect right out of the box how do I rely on this device to hold critical data in the future? Also very poor directions no quality control on documentation

Don't buy - Too Unreliable
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have it hooked up the Personal Cloud NAS I bought to 2 different networks, 2 different routers, and 2 PC's. At best it works intermittently. The Dashboard can't find the device most of the time!!! Internet Explorer, and the other utilities associated with the NAS all see the device with no problems. There is no error code, no diagnostic or anything else to help resolve the problem. I have worked with PC's servers, storage for a number of years and cannot get this to work. Seagate support has been unable to offer any help, other than to say that there is no way to specify the NAS in the Dashboard. Their last suggestion was to use Microsoft File History. I can copy files to the device; File History seems to work. Setting up other users is somewhat involved - more so than it should be. I worked with servers, storage, networking for years doing installations, etc. I cannot figure out how to get the device to work consistently with Seagate Dashboard.

Not working at all
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I plugged in the drive to my primary wireless router (FiOS) and let it configure for hours; nothing happened; the light kept blinking for hours. I tried to plug into my secondary wifi router and still didn't configure. Lights are blinking for hours. Not sure if there is a problem with my drive? Documentation is very poor. I got only piece of printed card on 'how' to instructions. I looked online for user manual and it doesn't give me enough information on troubleshooting. I am not happy with this product. I am returning it to BBUY.

Easy set up, works as advertised
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had this installed and functioning in about ten minutes. It was simultaneously backing up a cell phone, having date copied to it from another remote drive and doing a backup from one of our computers. The ability to access pictures and documents through my cell phone from wherever I am is fantastic!

What a Junk
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I brought this today, April 17, 2015. And I would be returning this piece of junk the first thing tomorrow. Not only is it complicated on its initial set up, you have one thing set up, then you think you are done but apparently you aren't, they required you to create another account to use its other so called applications. This is actually the beginning of a nightmare. When you think everything is done and ready to go. You will soon find out that it has connective issue. In my scenario, when you are uploading to a private folder, you can't even access that folder. During an uploading sequence, if you want to access the public folder, it will say it's unavailable. This so called cloud is not an user friendly device, it's actually one of the worst. The only reason why I want to buy my own private cloud is because I don't want to pay a monthly for I-cloud or Dropbox, but when you think about it, we are paying a monthly subscription for a better service and it's must easier to use. I don't recommend Seagate Cloud drive, want a cloud drive, look for another brand. Comment above is only about it's cloud drive, their regular hard drives for desktop/laptop are great quality.
