    Unbelievable...

For the people who think Dylan can't sing anymore, I agree at times, but this is certainly his best effort in some time. His style accommodates the talk/singing of his last few original albums, but here he reaches the singing style on 'Nashville Skyline' and his early 2000s touring. Hearing the songs arranged for a small band is interesting and gives them a different kind of life. Don't write this off until you've heard it. These are great songs done in a very special way and treated with respect and care by the greatest rock and roll artist.

As a Dylan fan, I didn't see this one coming but it is a welcome addition to his catalog. Very subltle, understated and respectful to the standards he is "uncovering" here and Bob's voice sounds like he recorded it 20 years ago. I love the generous use of steele guitar throughout the album. And great production and mixing too, just play it loud as it wasn't recorded for the IPOD generation meaning Ole' Jack Frost is not fighting any "loudness wars" with this one.

    Bob Dylan's Back (Again)

Bob Dylan is truly a chameleon of modern music. Each decade provides a slew of music that differs from the previous while contributing to his oeuvre of mad genius. "Shadows in the Night" is no different, providing some great songs with real heart behind them in terms of the music and Dylan's lyrics. The way he's going, I can't wait to hear what he has on his brain for next time.

Let me first say that as a life long fan, I appreciate Bob Dylan as an artist, this man can do no wrong! I have followed his musical career for many, many decades now and never have been disappointed . This musical journey has lead in so many different and surprising directions. He has helped me expand my musical horizons, so this new album is another fork in that musical road he has been traveling. This time he has chosen to explore a different musical direction that may take you by surprise, but not me. I have always seen him as the musical, Lewis and Clark of my generation, and in that vain I say, "Keep Pushing Onward Bob", we will ALL get there together. I love this new effort.

If you are looking for more songs penned by Bob Dylan, you might be a little disappointed. But his renditions of some of the old classics are well produced, and his voice actually sounds better on this CD than it has on other recent recordings. I was a little skeptical beforehand, but I was pleasantly surprised.

    Dylan reinterprets classic standards

When this was first announced, I was skeptical - Dylan play Sinatra? However, Dylan is soulful and languid, singing standards from another era, songs of autumn, songs of night. The music is melodic, slow and recessed; the mood is reflective, the voice is tour-weary but tuneful (for Dylan) and articulate; Dylan has taken a lot of care with this album, nothing is thrown away, nothing breaks the mood, and the lyrics are full of meaning; even though others wrote them down, he makes them his own.

Bob Dylan is one of the greatest song writers who has ever lived. So this Album of old standards is a little hard to get used to.It is worth listening to and if your a Dylan collector a must.It is not his best work by any stretch of the imagination.

Bob Dylan is continuing his late career surge. This album features covers of many pop standards popularized by Frank Sinatra. Inspired arrangements and strong vocals by Dylan are just a few of the pleasures of this album.

Perhaps Mr. Zimmerman is feeling gravity's pull. This collection of standards is a good example of taking well known songs and making them your own through alternative(pedal-steel)arrangements.

One doesn't think of Frank Sinatra and Bob Dylan together, but Dylan can do the songs well (if you like his voice) Might have been a good collaboration if Sinatra was still around.

Hugh Dylan fan here. I never ever gave a thought as to what Bob would do with some of the great standards but i am glad he did. This is a pretty good album and i have to admit i was pleasantly suprised. You can tell he put a good deal of thought and effort into how he wanted these songs to sound and i think the outcome just enhances Dylans legacy.

I bought this CD thinking or hoping for new original music from the "Master" poet, singer, song writer. Instead, the album contains covers of songs made popular in another age. Though appreciable, it is not really my cup of tea. Played it for my mom, who is in her mid 80's and she quickly joined in on the lyrics. Great to see her sing along !! I gave her the CD. I know she'll appreciate it more than I do. PS. MY RATEING IS PURELY RELATIVE !!

Something different. Occasionally Bob throws a song into his releases that he didn't write. You get a whole album here.

Dylan's voice was really clear on this album. The songs are really low key, but well done. I think Dylan will strike it big with this one - especially with some of his older listeners.
