The lastest album from Ulver offers yet another side to the ever-changing face of the band. For Shadows of the Sun, Ulver went with a more relaxing yet depressing mood. The album is not crowded with lots of inane filler lyrics. Most songs don't have more than fifty or sixty words, leaving the listener plenty of time to concentrate on the master-crafted melodies. Very pronounced string instruments and Garm's moving, athmospheric voice give a dismal yet calming tone to the music. This is most seen on the final track, "What Happened?" with a beautiful outro of violins and cello. In short, Ulver, yet again, does not disappoint. Four years of waiting were well worth it. Pick it up as soon as you can.
