Simple operation for clean air
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I use the Shark Air Purifier 6 in my office and so far it's been an excellent performer. The unit itself somewhat larger than I was expecting, about 35-36 inches tall, a few inches thick but is VERY lightweight. Operation of the unit is super simple - Unbox, install the filter, plug it in, turn it on, and I set it to auto and let it go to work. The filter is almost as large as the unit, but only about an inch thick. It does have some manual modes that you can set, but it seems they simply adjust the fan speed - a higher fan speed scrubs more air. The unit has no physical "buttons" - simply touch reactive buttons on the top where you can adjust the fan speed, power, and the display status. The top display can show the overall air quality represented in a percentage, the fan speed, the filter life, and the status of various air contaminates. There's also a front display that shows the air quality represented in percentage - it's easy enough to read from across the room. A remote control is included, but I simply let this unit run on auto and I really haven't touched it since I took it out of the box. If you had this in a bedroom, the remote does let you dim or turn off the front display for lights out operation. In auto, when the air quality is 100% (which is most of the time in our home), the unit is really quiet - the large number of fans move a lot of air but the fans do not have to be on a high speed to do so. When air contamination does pick up, the fans will pick up a bit of speed and the indicators on the top and front will change colors from blue to orange to red indicating the overall air quality status. The unit has a filter lifetime of about 4,400 hours, which is about 6 months. It is very reactive to things in the air. I noticed that when emptying my paper shredder, the small amount of dust from the paper shredder bin made the air quality drop to around 80% for a bit. I also tested by spraying an aerosol can near the unit, and the air quality quickly dropped, but in both cases the unit quickly reported the air quality coming back to 100% within a couple of minutes. The only drawbacks I see to this unit are it's size - it's somewhat tall and wide. The other drawback is the filter cost - it appears to be about $100 give or take depending on which filter you buy. Overall, this is a nice unit and keeps my office smelling fresh.

Nice design, functionality just ok
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The design is nice and it’s fairly easy to use. Clearly works on smoke in the room but I’m not positive about mold spores or pet dander. I use this in the basement and I also have a dog who sheds quite a bit. The clean air meter never seems to move off 100% until I blow out a candle and there’s smoke in the air. Perhaps it’s working and I’m just not seeing it affect the monitor. For the price, I would prefer to be more certain though.

Tower of power
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My intended use for this was to help with the air quality in the basement, where one cat decided anywhere could be a litter box, as well as trying to improve air circulation. I was surprised that when I plugged the unit in the air was already 100% clean. I guess I'm not sure exactly what I was expecting, but that wasn't it. The gist is, I don't think the unit will necessarily represent odors as part of that calculation - instead mainly particulates. This being the case and having a large basement, I've set mine to basically run continuously at 100%, and though not reflected on the unit, I think it's helped in the regard to odor in the basement. I would say that if you tend to keep your windows open and are victim to pollen/dust from outside, you should seriously consider this unit. That said, you will notice a difference in the noise level the 6 fans will put out at 100% versus the other settings by a measurably degree. In general, for the size of the unit etc, it's not really 'noisy' and in my case due to the location it really doesn't matter. The unit is easy to use, either via the buttons on top or the remote, with a clear display telling you what the current settings are. In general one would say the unit is large, but it's actual footprint isn't too bad. You do want to make sure there's room for circulation to occur however, so that foot print should include some space around the unit. The unit is pretty tall (and substantial), so if you have small children that are prone to pulling such things over, you may want to avoid.
