Customers are enthusiastic about the CarpetXpert HairPro Pet's cleaning performance and ease of use, frequently praising its strong suction and lightweight design. However, some users noted the small tank capacity required more frequent emptying. The size of the unit was also a point of contention, with some finding it cumbersome while others appreciated its compact nature compared to other models.

A set up from the little green machine, and no longer have to go rent the big machine at Lowe’s. Plus the 4 attachments help’s get all the pet hair and annoying spots that I can’t usually reach. It’s great.

      Hi there,

Thank you for sharing your feedback on the CarpetXpert HairPro. We’re sorry to hear it stops before the canister is full and needs frequent cleaning. If the Dirty Water Tank Full indicator lights are on but the tank isn’t full, check that the change-over valve is installed properly and remove any debris or hair from the non-removable hair cage before restarting the unit. Your input is appreciated and will be shared with our team.'

      Kind regards,
      Shark Clean

I have seen the Shark info commercials early in the morning and after adopting some very nervous cats that urinate on my carpet, I thought that this product would live up to their (Shark) claims. Somewhat disappointed. It did an okay job on old carpets, but they are "old" carpets. It does about the same job as my $45.00 cheapy carpet cleaner. Oh well, live and learn.

When you’re looking to deep clean your carpets, rugs and upholstery, nothing beats wet cleaning with a soap solution. You can do this without the help of a machine, but a well-designed carpet or portable upholstery cleaner makes the entire process quicker and easier. Shark’s line of CarpetXpert machines are unique for their design, looking more like traditional upright vacuums than your average carpet cleaner. Their models with StainStriker offer a built-in handheld cleaning option, again taking a page from upright vacuums with a hose and nozzle that attach and store on the machine itself. This latest HairPro Pet model is designed inside and out for pet parents, with a variety of features to clean pet messes and pet hair without clogging. As a longtime cat owner with limited space I approached this model as two birds, one stone: an upright and portable machine in one package that takes up about the same space as a full-size upright vacuum. I’ve owned and used many separate machines in the past. Upright models are often loud, bulky and hard to clean, but good ones leave your carpets and rugs looking new. Portable units are easier to store, but they have limited power and really aren’t meant for more than occasional use on small stains. The Shark CarpetXpert HairPro Pet arrived well-packed in a large box, and in typical Shark fashion included a wide array of accessories. I was happy to see no styrofoam in sight, although there was plenty of plastic wrapping and bags, thankfully recyclable at store drop-off locations. Assembly was simple: just pop on the handle, plug in the StainStriker hose and you're ready to go. I appreciate Shark including sample sizes of their cleaning solution in the box so you can start cleaning right away. I was apprehensive about the dual-solution setup of the CarpetExpert with StainStriker, but reading the manual put me at ease. For those wondering, the Shark pulls from the main water tank (with the “deep clean” solution mixed in) for carpet cleaning; it does not use the secondary StainStriker tank at all. When in handheld cleaning mode, the machine will pull from both the main and secondary tank (containing the undiluted “oxy boost” solution) and mix them together as you spray. So if you’re just doing rugs, no need to fill both tanks, but if you’re doing fabrics or handheld stain cleaning, make sure you follow the directions and use both. Preparing the CarpetXpert for use is the same as any other carpet cleaner, if not a tad simpler. Fill the main tank with water and solution to the appropriate lines on the back, make sure all the pieces are where they’re supposed to be, plug it in and turn it on. A few features stand out here: both solution tanks have flat bottoms, making for easy filling, and everything is clearly labeled with some helpful tips here and there to guide you. Second, instead of the hand trigger you might be used to, the CarpetXpert in floor cleaning mode automatically sprays solution when you push it forward, but pauses spraying and only suctions when you pull backward. This is a little thing, but wow, does it make carpet cleaning faster and easier. It’s a lot more like slow vacuuming, and there’s less guesswork about how long to hold the trigger or whether you sprayed this section already. The downside is that you have less control over spraying, as in “deep clean” mode the unit will spray with every forward pass. I didn’t find this to be a problem, but if you want to control every detail, it’s something to note. When hand cleaning with the StainStriker attachment you have a trigger to spray on demand. For carpet cleaning Shark seems to have taken a page from their well-designed vacuums. In addition to the automatic spraying and overall vacuum-like packaging, the CarpetXpert features a tangle-free beater bar that can be easily removed for cleaning. If you’re not familiar with carpet steamers, this is not standard. The “HairPro” features of this unit really go above and beyond what I’ve seen in a carpet cleaner, with special suction pathways and hair-catching filters and hand tools. I was concerned these might be marketing gimmicks, but let me tell you, they’re not. I found not a single hair wrapped around the beater bar or clogged anywhere in the machine after doing two rugs and a bedroom worth of carpet. Coming from a carpet steamer where the beater bar wasn’t even removable… this is a revolution. In use, the CarpetXpert is very vacuum-like on carpets. Push forward slowly to spray, pull back slowly to scrub and vacuum up liquid, repeat until the floor is cleaned. There are only two modes for carpet cleaning, both accessible from the control panel. The default “deep clean” mode sprays solution on the forward motion, while the “dry only” setting simply vacuums without spraying at all. In use, the Shark is easy to control, with a few minor quibbles. Like most carpet cleaners, this thing is loud. You’ll have a hard time carrying on a conversation while it’s in use, and your ears might be ringing a bit by the time you’re done. The Shark is also a hefty unit, and you feel the weight when you’re carrying it or pushing it. Helpfully, the wheels are nice and big, the handle is large and very solid, and the integrated carry handle on the back is well-balanced. The noise and weight are both reasonable trade-offs for the performance of the CarpetXpert IMHO, but they're something to note up front. So how did it leave my carpets and rugs? As clean as can be! If you’re not used to carpet shampooing, you’ll be grossed out (and weirdly satisfied) by what ends up in the dirty water tank. True to its advertising the Shark left my carpets feeling very clean, with lots of brown water and plenty of carpet fibers, cat hair and little bits of embedded litter ending up in the dirty water tank. The HairPro features did exactly what I hoped: there was no clogging or hair wrapping to deal with; instead, hair and carpet fibers were all captured neatly in the yellow hair catcher portion of the dirty water tank. Again, I can’t tell you how great this is compared to other carpet machines I’ve used. Shark keeps the HairPro features coming in handheld mode, with tools designed to scrub hair out of your fabrics (using rubber ridges) and even a special tool designed to capture pet hair right in a little chamber. I’m especially impressed with the pet mess handheld tool, which when used properly keeps unsanitary pet mess water in a separate container right on the tool itself. Again, it makes for a bit of a bulky tool, but you won’t end up with pet messes all throughout the hose and main unit, which is a boon when you’re ready to clean it. Handheld cleaning is as simple as undocking the StainStriker from the side of the Shark, to activate handheld mode. I love that the hose itself is a crevice tool cleaner of sorts, as anyone who’s cleaned a sofa can tell you there’s more nooks and crannies than you might think. All three included handheld tools snap on and perform as they say; be sure to read the directions so you’re using the right tool for the job. Shark actually makes a supersized 7-inch handheld tool, and I wish they’d included it in the box, as it would make cleaning furniture or stairs much faster. That said, the basic handheld cleaning attachment works well, and includes a double-sided brush/pet hair ribbed scrubber to get the job done. With a long hose that attaches to the bottom of the CarpetXpert body handheld cleaning is convenient and stable. Including this hose that docks to the main unit like an upright vacuum is a great solution and it easily replaces a separate handheld steamer in my opinion. I appreciate both the innovation and implementation Shark offers here. The Shark CarpetXpert really shines when it comes to cleaning the cleaner. Carpet and upholstery shampooers lend themselves to messy, complicated cleanup, but here again Shark made meaningful improvements. Two areas I’ve often struggled to clean include the beater bar and the dirty water tank itself. On the CarpetXpert, you press a few buttons and the entire front of the unit opens, allowing you to remove the front suction piece and the beater bar for rinsing and drying. Similarly, the dirty water tank lid completely detaches, allowing you to fully rinse and dry the bucket. The yellow hair catching device caught plenty of hair and carpet fibers, and while it did take a minute or two to clear all the debris, I appreciate that long fibers were deposited here and not deep inside the machine where you can’t reach. Hand tool and hose cleaning is also another highlight, with an onboard self-cleaning rinse function: press your hose with tool on the designated area with the machine running and the unit will spray cleaning solution and suck it into the dirty water bin, rinsing the entire hose assembly on the way. With cleaning of the floors and the machine complete, I prepared to wait all day for my freshly-shampooed areas to dry… and found myself pleasantly surprised when they were dry to the touch only a few hours later. My last shampooing experience left my carpets damp all night and into the morning, so I was excited to find Shark’s suction claims held up in my testing. Overall, the Shark CarpetXpert HairPro Pet with StainStriker is a fabulous device, able to back up its lengthy name with impressive performance. It cleans carpets and upholstery well, with specific tools for specific jobs and plenty of spray and suction power to get the job done. Power is only half the story, though, and where I think the Shark really excels is in ease of use. Not only is it easy to use, but the CarpetXpert is hands-down the easiest machine to clean after a shampooing session, whether you’ve used the floor or handheld modes. Yes, it’s a bit heavy and certainly a bit loud, but those are small compromises to make for the suburb cleaning and user experience the CarpetXpert delivers.
