Nice, powerful cordless stick vacuum!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Stick Vacuums have really evolved over the past 10-15 years or so, going from corded, small room or quick clean-up use to ones that can replace the traditional upright or canister vacuums. Over the past 5 years or so, we have become primarily stick-vac users, especially after downsizing from a 2-story house to a single-story house a couple of years ago. We currently have two stick-vacs, one higher powered one for carpets and rugs, and another for the tile area (where it is about a 50-50 mix or each). With our carpet stick-vac starting to show its aging (but still running decently after 7 years), we were starting to look for the next one to replace it. Having preferences for some of the different design aspects of stick-vacs, we felt that this Shark Cordless Pet Vacuum would best meet those preferences! The overall design is pretty good. It has a single power button on top, which I like as our older carpet one has a trigger that has be pressed all the time. There is a trigger, but that is a for a quick power boost. The motor head does feel like it has good balance when using it, even though at first look at it, it seems to have an awkward look to it. And the handle is very smooth with no sharp edges (which is a big thing for me). One thing I do like over our other stick-vacs is the sturdiness of the connection point of the shaft to the main motorhead. While there is some, to a decent amount, of movement in that area in the others, this one does not move at all. The brushroll head has two large roller wheels on the back side. This can help with moving while vacuuming but is also useful when the head is locked upright and then the wheels can be used to move it from room to room. It also does have lights, which is mostly useful when vacuuming under furniture to ensure not missing any areas. It does come with two attachments - the typical crevice tool, and a 2-piece, swiveling flat surface tool that can be used with or without the removable brush head. The performance during cleaning is really good! Just to test against our other stick-vac we use on the carpet/rug areas, I vacuumed an area with the older one then over the same area with this one, and it did still pick up a decent amount of debris. It does auto-detect the flooring type and will change the power of the brushroll head accordingly. For carpets, it will increase the power within 3 seconds. But with that power increase, it does get a bit louder. Also, be sure not to use on thin floor rugs as it kick up the power, suck the rug into it, and then stop the brushroll. I also noticed that on carpet (and just a basic builder-grade carpet that is not very thick/plush), the brushroll seems to not like being pulled back as it seems to have a stutter/vibration to it versus the smoothness when pushing. It is fairly easy to maneuver around, but I feel it doesn't turn as easily, especially on carpets. We tried to test the suction flow on tile by setting down some larger fur clumps and them move slowly towards them, and it sucked them in from about 3-4 inches away. What is nice about this dust cup is that it can be emptied without needing to remove the motor head from the shaft. While it still can be done that way, the is a little yellow bottom that will release the dust cup so it can be taken by itself to empty. When emptying, pressing down on the lid release lever somewhat effortlessly opens the cup. But, one of the things I'm not too sure about is the design of the dust cup. While overall it seems to be really large, it has two somewhat separate chambers. With the debris flow, it first goes into the cyclonic chamber. Then there is a 2.25" x .5" notch at the bottom to allow the debris to fall out. What I've noticed so far is that the fur/hair/dust the eventually clumps together will mostly stay in the cyclonic chamber, which really is too small in my opinion, and attempt to eventually make it out through the notch. This make me think it will get clogged up more quickly and the dust but will need to be emptied more often. Then, when emptying, I have to always reach in and remove the wrapped fur/hair from the cyclonic chamber area as it does not fall out on its own (at least that has been my experience so far). The storage of the main vacuum is a little inventive, that helps with any possible storage space issues. After removing the motor head from the main shaft, there is tab on the back that will slide into a notch on the front, a little above the junction of the main shaft and the brushroll head. There are removeable yellow stickers in both areas that will help with guiding how to do this. And be sure to store it this way as trying to leave it fully intact can cause it to slip down easily due to the angle the shaft is when the brushroll is locked in upright storage mode and the overall weight distribution of the motor head. Overall, this is different than the other stick-vacs we have where we store them on a wall-mountable dock that also double as quick connecting charging. That also is a point where the battery has to be manually plugged in to charge. This can be done in the storage mode, but also the battery can be removed and then charged elsewhere. The battery life is listed up to 40 minutes, which will be affected by floor type it is used one, and use of the power boost mode. For the most part, this is a really good vacuum should be considered when looking for a powerful cordless stick vacuum.

Great Budget Cordless Vac When on Sale
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Shark Cordless Pet Stick Vacuum is a great entry-level stick vacuum, but at full price it's hard to recommend. At sale price when I received it, it was only $169.99 which is a fantastic deal for this machine. It has very powerful suction, getting so much pet and human hair as well as dirt out of our living room rug. Speaking of hair, Shark has really perfected their anti hair tangle brush bar. After deep cleaning that living room rug, I had zero brush bar tangles I had to deal with. Another tech advancement is that this stick vacuum moves away from having to hold a trigger down the whole time and switches to a button to turn on and off. Way better for longer cleans and especially better for older folks who find it hard to keep a trigger held down. It does have a trigger, but that is for the turbo suction mode which I think is the perfect solution. No adjusting a switch or button, just pull the trigger when necessary. For whole home cleaning, battery life is solid. I was able to clean our whole 1000 sq-ft home with batter life to spare (this includes me using the turbo trigger for several rugs). It comes with two of the three most important attachments, crevice tool and wide-mouth/scrub brush but is missing the smaller motor head to clean furniture unfortunately. I think the biggest let down is that there doesn't seem to be a way to vacuum ultra-low pile rugs. We have a rug like this in the kitchen and it just gets sucked up into the head then shuts off the machine. I know other machines developed ways to let air in/out allowing for cleaning without sucking up the whole carpet and I wish this did too. These types of vacuums are always top-heavy by nature of having the motor and everything in the handle so that it can become a handheld vac. I think the handheld form is just a tad heavy so I've used it in that mode sparingly. And because it's top heavy, I could not for the life of me get it to stand up against a wall, which is why they have you take off the handle and dock it in the bottom half of the vacuum for storage. It does make cleaning a little more difficult when you have to find a safe space to prop it up or lay down while you move a chair or do something else. My last small quibble is that for a household with significant allergies, the small piece of foam used as a filter doesn't really feel adequate. Overall I am happy with this, especially at the sale price, but I would say if it's not on sale then either wait or get something else. This is a tough sell compared to the competition at that $300 price point. Get it at a good price and you will be properly satisfied! Pros: Powerful suction Solid battery life Button power toggle, trigger for extra suction 5 pets in the house but no hair tangling around the brush bar Cons: Struggles with low pile carpet (too much suction) Can't be easily set against a wall Air filter is just a cheap piece of foam Handheld form is a little heavy as expected Standard price isn't a great deal, but on sale it is

A Good Stick Vac
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This Shark Cordless Pet Stick Vacuum is a good vacuum cleaner. However, I’m not sure it’s a standout product. I used this Shark vac to vacuum 3 small carpeted rooms. I used the powered head to do the main areas and the crevice tool to get the edges and corners. The first thing I noticed was it was quite light. Next, the power head does not clean to its edge. It gets to about half an inch from a wall. I also used it to vacuum my carpeted stairs that had not been vacuumed in months. It did a good job on the room carpets. The power head has a light that helps find the dirt under beds and furniture. I kind of wish it had a couple of lights to light up behind the cleaning head. I also wish there was a light on the vacuum itself so I could get some illumination using the crevice tool. It did a very good job on the very low cut carpet. It did a good job on the medium pile. However, my old canister did a much better job. Cleaning the stairs was easier with this than with my old canister vacuum because I didn’t have to hold onto a canister while vacuuming. I was able to get up most of the dust with the main power head. The lights again helped seeing how much dust had actually accumulated. Using the 3 included tools, I was able to get the carpeted treads much cleaner than they were previously. Some additional things I noticed: Suction without using Turbo mode is not vey strong but works OK on hard floors and low cut carpet. Also, the brush on power head takes 5 or so seconds to get to full rotation speed. One thing I hate about this type of vacuum is dumpling the dust cup. Dust always flies out of the garbage can and I almost always need to reach into the cup and pull out a compacted tangle of dust and hair. This vacuum is no exception. I have used another stick vac that has a lever you can pull to dump this tangle without reaching into the cup. Something like that would have helped it stand out. The attachments are pretty typical for this type of vacuum. There is a powered head with a rotating brush. It is a rubber brush that resists getting tangled with hair. That seemed to work well. There is also a crevice tool and a brush with some fairly stiff bristles. I like that I can use all attachments connected directly to the vacuum or attached to the extension stick. The battery lasted about 1/2 an hour with a mix of power head and non-powered attachments used. I used turbo mode about 1/3 of the time. The battery took about 2 hours to recharge including cool off time. The battery is smart enough to know when it’s too hot to charge so that is a good safety and longevity feature. The power level / status lights on the battery are useful. Conclusion: This is a good vacuum cleaner. It works well and doesn’t really have many issues. But it also doesn’t have any standout features or wow factor. For this I deduct a star. It’s good. Just not great.

Great small form factor vacuum for pet hair
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Shark Cordless Stick vacuum is a must have for those with pets! I have a traditional other big name vacuum that touts to be the best at collecting pet hair. This cordless vacuum does a MUCH better job! The shark comes with the main body/dust collector, floor attachment, and a couple other options for cleaning fabrics and getting in tight areas. The vacuum attachments come together tightly and are easy to separate. I thought it was great that the main body of the vacuum can attach to the floor attachment for storage. I believe you can hang it, but we rent and don't wish to add any holes into our walls. The performance exceeded my expectations. There are two different suction speeds. One is controlled by a trigger in the handle. As I mentioned above, we have a traditional pet vacuum and it has worked well over the years. We have had to replace filters and rollers as they have degraded but nothing too crazy. I was never wow'd by the performance of that vacuum. I actually felt like we over paid for the pet version as it seems to perform as well as the vacuum I grew up with in the 90s. The Shark is amazing. We have two cats and three kids (not pets but are way messier). I powered it on and took a couple passes on my rug. I didn't really see much difference in the way the rug looks so I assume that the rug must have been fairly clean. I was so wrong as the dust collector was FILLED with cat hair just after one pass of our 8x10 rug. With that said, I did have an issue when vacuuming our rugs. We have Ruggable rugs that you can easily throw in the wash if needed. The rug attaches to the velcro like slip proof bottom. The Shark was so powerful on the base setting that the vacuum kept sucking up the rug and getting caught in the rollers. It was still able to be vacuumed as long as you stayed away from the edges and kept a consistent speed. I used the other attachments on my corduroy couch. I think I need to play around with the attachments to find which will work best for that fabric. I didn't feel like the couch got as clean as it should have been. With a little bit of trial and error and I believe that I can get the couch vacuumed to my liking. The Shark Cordless Pet Stick Vacuum is a great tool to have in your arsenal as a pet owner or someone who lives in a small apartment. It is able to pick up messes with ease and is convenient to store. It may give you some trouble with some rugs, but it is worth it as it is able to collect pet hair that you didn't even know existed. Overall, I would recommend this vacuum to friends and family.

Fairly good vacuum
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I already had a Shark cordless stick vacuum in my home and liked it so much, I thought I would get another so I would have one on each floor of the house so I would always have one at the ready. Overall, this is a pretty good machine and it does what it's supposed to do. We have two dogs and some long-haired people in my house so the pet version was the best way to go to take care of the hair issues. The suction power is quite good and the brush roller is easy to clean, even with the amount of hair that ends up on the floor. The dust bin is sufficiently large that you don't have to empty it during a cleaning and, unless you have big messes, can usually go multiple sessions without having to worry about it being full. One of my favorite features is the "headlights" because the off-angle lighting really highlights what's on the floor so you ensure you get it all. Battery life is usually good for at least 3 vacuums of the 1200 or so square feet of my downstairs. Mind you that it is mostly hardwood and tile so I can't say how it would be on carpet. My only hangup with this machine is the automatic floor sensing. It is supposed to change the power level when you move from hard to soft surfaces (i.e. tile to rug) but it does not work as well as my other Shark. While my original almost instantaneously switches when you move to a different floor surface, this one lags quite a bit and stays in "carpet" mode for a long time before switching back to hard floor mode, sometimes a minute or more. As far as I can tell, there isn't a way to turn off the feature unfortunately. It's more of a minor annoyance than anything and if I didn't have experience with the brand I probably wouldn't even notice.Other than that, I've been pleased with it.

A bit heavy, but excellent cleaning power
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I will be comparing this to an inexpensive cordless vacuum I purchased online elsewhere. The first thing I noticed is home much heavier this one is. It no doubt has a larger battery as well as a more powerful motor. Assembly was simple and fast, and I (of course) never really looked at the instructions before I started using it. The extra weight is immediately noticeable, and makes it a bit harder to maneuver around the floor. Once I got used to the heft, it really wasn't much of a deal for me. But if someone has strength issues with their arms, this might be too heavy to use. I tried it on laminate wood, ceramic tile and carpet. I discovered (and found in the instructions later) that it can detect a surface like carpet and increase both the beater bar and suction power automatically. This is a very nice feature, so it isn't necessary to manually switch a vacuum to a higher power setting (assuming it even has one). After first use, I discovered the finger pull (something else I would have noticed if I had read the manual) that increases power even further. After use, I was surprised by the amount of dirt it had picked up, as the surfaces were already fairly clean (I thought). Emptying the waste container was simple. I was initially a bit puzzled by their instructions for storage. With the weight of the battery and motor it will not stand upright untouched. What I discovered is that by disconnecting the top power section, it fits into a slot low on the arm and sits just fine on its own. They list this as a pet vacuum, but my dog has hair, not fur, so doesn't shed. But it's still a great vacuum that is fairly easy to move around on the floor, as well as using the attachments (crevice tool and brush head) on furniture, stairs or even overhead (I cleaned a fresh air return grill in the ceiling).

Really Nice Pet Vacuum
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This unit came well packaged and was a simple snap to assemble. As you would hope, it is also fairly lightweight which makes it easy to maneuver around furniture or whatever objects (like dog toys) may be found on the floor. It comes with two alternate vacuum heads: a brush and a wand. However, it does not offer any way to store those extra heads on the unit when not in use. Also, the directions say to remove the battery before charging it. There is no place to store the charging cable on the unit when not in use. There is a convenient notch in the unit handle that may be used to hang the unit on a storage room hook. Exchanging heads is very simple. Vacuuming with unit is a breeze. It is quite maneuverable - allowing access to hard to reach places by going around or underneath as required. With the beater bar head attached, the unit seems to automatically detect a transition from bare floor to rug or carpet and back again while adjusting appropriately. Cleaning is quite thorough as well. I was able to vacuum the entire medium-sized house on a single charge. Emptying the dust bin is very easy. This a really nice pet vacuum - highly recommended.

Great Vac With A Few Gripes
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I own two Shark vacuums. One upstairs and one downstairs. I like them both but even in my relatively small home the hassle of dealing with plugging and unplugging a vacuum to reach everywhere is an inconvenience. Also neither of them is good for doing stairs. Both issues were solved with the Shark Cordless Pet Stick vacuum with XL Dust Cup and LED Headlights. I like Sharks informative packaging. The QuickStart guide is right on the box. Also prominent is the 2 year battery warranty and the 5 year limited warranty on the vacuum. In the box you find the vacuum, a crevice tool, pet multi tool, and the charging cable. I immediately liked the color which they call moonlight blue. I also liked the quality feel of this Shark. I thought best to give it a full charge. This took longer than I expected but I like the progress indicator leds on the battery. On a full charge the vacuum gets 40 minutes of runtime. I think that is fantastic. Certainly enough to do my home. When not in use you remove the top part of the vacuum from the extension tube and store it by hanging on a small hook near the base of the tube. Seems like a bit of an awkward solution to the fact that it won’t stand on its own when not in use. Also inconvenient when you have to pause vacuuming for any reason. Best solution is to lay it on the floor. I have a mix of hardwood, tile, and area rugs in my home. The Shark seems to handle them all just fine. I love how it automatically senses the floor type and adjusts the brushroll speed accordingly. It ramps up the speed on rugs and slows on tile or hardwood. The roller is what they call the Turbo Pro Brushroll and is a hard ridged roller with brushes on it which is supposed to prevent hair from wrapping. Seems to work well. I’m just not a fan of the sound it makes on hard floor types. It makes almost a loud slapping and rattling sound as the roller comes in contact with the floor. Kind of annoying and unpleasant. I do like the led headlight which illuminates the floor as your vacuuming. There is also a trigger on the head that you pull to increase the suction to max power. This vacuum is like two vacuums in one since you simply remove the top from the tube to convert it into a handheld vac. With the crevice tool or pet multitool you can easily vacuum furniture and stairs. Very convenient. I do however wish there was a hose attachment included or offered as an accessory. Emptying the vacuum is a breeze with one push on the side of the canister to eject the debris. Overall I really like this Shark with a few reservations. The cordless design makes cleaning much more convenient than my other Sharks and the handheld mode is perfect for stairs and furniture. My biggest complaints are that it won’t stand on its own and the brushroll is noisy on hard floors. The strong cleaning performance and great cordless battery life make this my go to vacuum.

Pretty good, but some disappointments
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my review of the Shark Cordless Pet Stick Vacuum. I have wanted a cordless vac for a while now, primarily due to my messy cat, Daria. She's amazing at flicking large amounts of kitty litter up to 8 feet from her robotic litter box every day, so I was looking forward to something more powerful than my little dust buster that never got everything, and required sweeping up afterwards, defeating the purpose. I wasn't a fan of bringing out my regular, corded vacuum either, which while it does an excellent job, takes more time to fetch from the closet, plug in, undo the coils, and reverse the process, than it takes to actually vacuum the area around the litter box. The Shark does a good job when using the full upright vacuum attachment, however the smaller brush portion hardly lifts anything off the hardwood floor; and the small, angled wedge attachment is, well, just TOO small. There are a few minor annoyances as well when using in full upright mode, which is what I will end up using almost all of the time. First, and I don't understand if perhaps I have a faulty vac or there's a reason for this, but it randomly changes suction power during use. And not in a minor way, it gets twice a loud with much heavier suction for a few moments, but then goes back to what seems to be "normal" (since it's the power that it starts at and the heavier suction only lasts a few seconds). Perhaps it's using AI to determine how much power to use? Not sure. Another admittedly minor thing is that it can't stand on its own in upright mode, it will immediately tip over. You have to detach the motor portion from the base, and there's a spot to hook it onto, and then when you want to use it you have to re-attach every time. Not that it takes a lot of time, but I don't understand why they couldn't have made it balance so you could just grab and go when needed. Finally, to charge it you plug in the power cord to the motor section. Again, a minor thing, but how cool would it have been to have a charging base, perhaps one that not only charged the vacuum, but held it in full upright position as well, for the fastest, most effortless use case there could be? Overall, I am satisfied with the Shark, it does what I need it to do. I just feel that they could have engineered the product better, and made it the "must have" cordless stick vac in a crowded market. The Shark Cordless Pet Stick Vacuum is OK, but I just can't say "I recommend this product", which is how I really wanted to feel.

Good second vacuum for light duty
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Shark cordless pet vacuum is a decent budget friendly option. We wanted a second lightweight vacuum for the upstairs level of our home so I don’t have to carry the larger corded vacuum up and down the stairs. We wanted something cordless, small, and lightweight. This vacuum checks all three of those boxes. We have a dog with fairly long wiry hair and she loves to share it with everything she touches. The vacuum does a decent job of picking it up. It isn’t as good as our more expensive main vacuum, but if you keep up with the mess, it does well enough for the price point. Here are my main pros and cons for this unit. Pros: Overall lightweight Handheld configuration works great on stairs Easy to maneuver Turbo trigger great for spot cleaning Good at picking up pet hair Pretty good headlight Cons: Top heavy design makes your arm a bit tired even though it’s pretty light overall Doesn’t stand up on it’s own Collector bin is pretty small Heavy pet hair areas can cause hair and debris to wrap around the filter screen and agitator Learning curve on emptying due to bottom door design and making sure it’s over the trash when you dump it. Hard to see what you are doing. Turbo mode cuts battery life from 40 minutes to 10 minutes if you use it all the time. Overall it’s a decent unit and it’s pretty easy on the budget. I would recommend it as an auxiliary vacuum but probably not as my main vacuum unless I had mostly hard floors and not a lot of pet hair to deal with on a regular basis.

Easy setup, powerful, versatile
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We’ve had a Shark portable vacuum cleaner for several years now and have been very happy with it. When this new model became available, we got one because we wanted to keep the old one in the basement and use this new one in the rest of the house. Plus, this newer model is more specifically aimed at pet owners, and we have a cat. What impresses us the most about these units is their power. The motor and brush in the head have plenty of pick-up ability to handle our thick carpeting that often has pet hairs in it. A full charge of the battery is easily enough to do the entire house. Cleaning of the unit does require a little time to turn the brush head over and remove the hairs, but that’s minor. Most of what the unit picks up ends up in the collection compartments, which are easy to empty. We also greatly appreciate the spot-vacuuming attachment, which includes its own two attachments and which is great for cleaning up small areas and grabbing the cat litter that the cat invariably tracks out of his litter box onto the floor in that room. It’s also handy for quick clean-up of solid spills, like when the grandson spills popcorn on the floor in the living room. The unit has a headlight, which our old unit did not. We get some use out of this, mainly when vacuuming under a piece of furniture or in dark corners, but we never really missed not having a headlight on our older unit. Setup is beyond simple. Get everything out of the box and connect and plug in the charger. Out of the box, our unit had about 50% charge. It took perhaps another hour to bring it to full. The unit comes apart for easy storage. There is the head unit, which has the controls, the dust collection compartment, and the filter, the shaft, and the brush unit which attaches to the end of the shaft. The spot-cleaning attachment goes in place of the shaft when that is used, and, as noted above, it has its own pair of attachments depending on whether you are cleaning a soft or hard surface. All of this switching around of the attachments takes only a few seconds. We expect many years of service out of this vacuum cleaner.
