Every couple of years your vacuum needs replacing and this year was that year. I came across the shark detect and for those who have had the pleasure of owning a shark vacuum you know that they are quality devices.
I opted for the “detect” series of vacuum because it is advertised as allergen free and it has a neat self-emptying base. These are the two features that captured my attention. I would like to share my thoughts on the detect. It takes the concept of robot vacuums and added the self-emptying feature to a handheld vacuum. Essentially that means less dust in the air from less trips to the garbage can to empty the vacuum.
There is a lot to like about the shark the detect feature knows how much suction the vacuum should use kind of like it is in automatic mode with the sensors. It knows if you are cleaning a corner, it detects hardwood, linoleum or carpeted floors. It is a neat feature and I am happy to share with you that is a great feature and not a gimmick. I must admit I was a bit skeptical but it works as advertised and it works well.
While the Shark detect is a great cleaning tool there are somethings to take into consideration. The refuse cannister on the vacuum is on the small side and with that being said it is not something that will replace a traditional sized vacuum. That means you might have to make multiple rounds depending upon how much of a mess you are cleaning up. Now the refuse bin on the rechargeable base is a good size and I’d say on average I find myself emptying it about once a week. It is a simple process as well.
I like the fact that the base recharges the vacuum and there is a sleep button which will prevent it from automatically emptying the vacuum. I appreciate that greatly having a toddler who makes messes nearly all day long. It will not interrupt nap time.
There is a lot to like and very little to dislike here with the detect.
Pros:
- Self-emptying (kind of)
- Smart detect feature
- Washable filters
- Replicable batteries
- Sleep button
Cons:
- Small cannister
Overall, the shark detect is a great cleaning tool for a big family like mine. It makes lie a little easier for me and I open to things that help make my day a little easier and stress free. I am very happy with my Shark as I stated earlier there is a lot to like and very little to dislike.

I have tested multiple Shark and Ninja products over the years, and most have been great. I have had a Shark cordless vacuum for several years and it is still going strong, with the original battery. I also have a 2024 PowerDetect self-emptying vacuum that I use every week with no issues. So, I was really looking forward to trying this new model out.
The LED lighting on vacuum head is nice especially when vacuuming under beds/cabinets– but it really doesn’t highlight the dirt on the floor (as my Dyson does). There is now an indicator on the head that shows different colors indicating level of dirt/clean as well as on the handle.
Power on/off is a button on top of the handle. Another button lets you choose between ecco (green leaf), auto (white circle) and “high” (red fan) power modes. The battery indicator on the top of the handle is four little rectangles, indicating 100%, 75%, 50% and less than 25%. Using on a mix of 60% hard floors and 40% carpet (around 1000 sq ft) it ran out of battery at 35 minutes on Auto mode – consistently. It does not lose power as charge is used – it just stops. With 6.5 hr. recharge time it is going to take a while to vacuum a larger home or apartment. The battery is detachable, so a second battery could be purchased, but it does not come with a standalone charger – must be attached to vacuum and placed in stand to charge. Battery blinks when charging – yellow (0-75%), green (75 – 100%) and solid white (full).
It is lighter than the previous 2024 model, (13.5 vs 18.4 lbs) so unit is not nearly as top heavy as my 2024 and as such not as tiring to use. The cleaning head is a good size but is also lighter and tends to bounce when using on thicker carpets/rugs, losing suction. Also, the wand is noticeably smaller/round and tends to flex at connection point to vacuum head especially when using on carpets.
It does do a nice job on hard floors, with auto dirt detection increasing suction.
Edge cleaning works well. When running along the edge of a wall/door, etc. it senses this and turns vacuum power to the edge that is along the wall. It works on either side too.
Multi-flex wand allows you to bend the long extension to 90% to allow easy use under beds/cabinets, etc.
To empty you drop the unit onto the base, and it opens the little “door” on the vacuum and sucks out the dirt into the base dust bin. It is somewhat loud when emptying but there is a “switch” on the base to not empty (just charge) to allow for “silent” docking. You can empty the handle yourself too. And they have added a clear section on base allowing you to see dirt accumulation – my 2024 does not have this.
The bagless design on vacuum and base is nice and the Hepa filter, dust cup and sensors are all washable.
2 un-powered secondary attachments, a dust crevice and a pet multi tool, are rudimentary at best. The attachments can be used without the wand, allowing close-up vacuuming.
5-year warranty on vacuum is impressive
Overall, this is just an okay vacuum in my opinion and I don’t feel it is an improvement over my 2024. Battery charge time is long and while it works well on hard floors - not nearly as well on thicker carpets. I would only recommend it if your home has more hard flooring than carpet and you want a self-emptying vacuum.

Great product, sales price and ease and comfort picking up.the item on Christmas Eve!
As for the product, it is 10 times better than our 1st gen Shark cordless. It instantly docks to the charging port, while emptying out the cannister into the base. What more could you ask for? Great battery life, power and versatility in going under chairs, tables, bed, etc. If this ever goes on sale again, Ill buy another for my parents.

The Shark detect clean and empty is a game changer for our household. It is lightweight, easy to maneuever, and battery last long enough for our home.
We have all hard floors in the house and was looking for something lighter, cordless, and more cost effective to replace our current Dyson.
The Shark proved to have enough sunction power for our area rugs and to pick up everything we’ve attempted to clean with this cordless vacuum.
We are happy with our purchase and will be recommended this product. Thank you!

I have been looking for a new vacuum, I have mostly hardwood with some rugs and carpet in bedrooms. I have always had great success with Shark products. I saw this on Black Friday special and bought 2, home + vacation condo. I have human hair issues, shoulder length for me, daughter - waist length. Vacuum is easy to assemble and has great suction, no hair wrap issues, love the empty features. Vacuum is quiet, emptying is slightly louder, but still quieter than older plug-in models. I like that it is lightweight. I would wish for longer run time on battery, but not a dealbreaker. Overall I am very happy.

Lightweight design with plenty of multi floor power. Automatically switches from carpet mode to hardwood floor mode and auto headlights also. The self emptying base is really just a bonus that takes all the hassel out of dumping it after every use. Seems to handle pet hair without binding up on the roller head. Would recommend for any size living space with or without pets!

Sleek, convenient and pretty cool. The clean sensor lets you know the area is heavily dirty. You simply keep going over the area till the sensor says its clean. Increases in power when it needs to, auto changes when transitioning from carpet to hardwood. The auto empty dispenser is a nice touch. Nice long battery.

I love my new vacuum. It navigates with ease, love the standing charging port vs. screwing it to a wall and the repository for dirt after using it is very helpful. Nice and powerful for a stick vac and perfect for stairs, hard to reach/tight places and quick clean ups.

📦 UNBOXING:
Inside the box, you’ll find everything you need to get set up. You’ll find a quick-start guide, the handheld vacuum, the auto-empty 2L charging base, a rechargeable battery, the multiflex wand, the PowerFins brush, a crevice tool, and an upholstery tool. There’s quite a bit of plastic used in the packaging, but also quite a bit of cardboard, as well.
🛠️ SETUP:
Setup is easy. The dock is disassembled into two pieces: the docking rod and the base. Simply attach the rod to the base, then plug the base into a wall outlet. Then attach the battery to the vacuum, attach the multi-flex wand, then the brush. You’ll want to let it charge before the first use, and Shark says a full charge should take 6.5 hours.
🪫 DOCKING / EMPTY STATION:
The docking station is one of the stronger selling points of this vacuum. It collects up to 2L of debris which can be auto-emptied when you dock the vacuum. You can toggle this behavior via a sleep button on the dock. When the button is pressed and illuminated, it’ll only charge the vacuum, and when toggled off it will charge + auto empty every time you dock.
🧹 VACUUM:
The build of the Shark Detect Clean & Empty Cordless Vacuum system is surprisingly good. It uses a plastic build both across the vacuum + accessories as well as the dock, but it certainly doesn’t feel cheap.
The handheld vacuum is reasonably lightweight, and should be easy to use in a car when the crevice tool or upholstery tool is directly attached, but some 2 door cars with back seats might be a bit more cramped to navigate. So while I think this cordless vacuum could help clean in most cars, it’s definitely designed more for in-home cleaning. It has a transparent dust cup so you can see what you’re collecting, and its filters are easy to access and replace. The battery attaches at the bottom of the handle similar to most power drills, and Shark says the battery should operate for up to 60 minutes in Eco mode. On the back of the vacuum, there is a power button and a mode button that lets you switch between the Eco, Auto and Boost modes.
The multi-flex wand is 2ft, but because the weight distribution will be towards the vacuum, it makes holding out the vacuum with the wand easier. With that said, those with less strength may find it easier to use your other hand to grip the wand at the short end. This can help give some extra strength while reaching higher areas. But the real feature of this wand is the fact that it bends so that you don’t have to. The bending wand makes it easy to reach deep under low places like beds, sofas, and coffee tables. Most vacuums struggle to reach deep under beds, but the multi-flex wand alleviates that issue really well.
Attaching the PowerFins brush to the wand is easy. When they stand perpendicular, the brush stays locked like a traditional upright vacuum. With the vacuum on, the brush engages its lights to illuminate dirt and debris that you might not normally see. In my experience, this made it especially easier to find cat litter on the floor. And when the brush detects different floor types, it can automatically increase the brush speed up to 2x RPM using the “Floor Detect” feature.
For attachments, the crevice tool and upholstery tool are nothing special, but are useful. When not in use, the crevice tool can be stowed away on the floor slot of the dock. The crevice tool makes it easier to clean baseboards, windows, and narrower spaces. The upholstery tool’s tip is almost like a micro velcro or something, as it does a good job at collecting pet hair that is a little annoying to extract. Even so, it is effective and saves me time.
🧹 CLEANING PERFORMANCE:
Overall, cleaning performance on this Shark Clean & Empty cordless vacuum has been very good. Especially thanks to its PowerFin brush and Floor Detect feature, I was able to get cat hair out of a rug that another cordless stick vacuum couldn’t, and it was effortless because the Floor Detect feature kicked the brush into high gear automatically.
Under Auto mode, the vacuum operates in Eco mode on floors and tile, and will use Boost mode on carpets and rugs. If you need a longer runtime, you may want to switch to Eco mode. For homes with predominately carpet, this will mean Auto mode will yield Boost mode most of the time.
The Auto Empty feature is also very good and does not have any issues with debris leakage thanks to its allergen and HEPA filter. That being said, since the dock uses a bagless design, this does mean when you do eventually empty the dock, there may be some debris leakage. However, the upside is that you don’t have to purchase a bunch of expensive proprietary vacuum bags.
🧐 CONCLUSION:
Overall, this Shark Detect Clean & Empty cordless stick vacuum has become one of my favorite vacuums. I appreciate that I don’t have to remove a charging cable from the vacuum each time I need to use it, I don’t need to drill into a wall to dock it, and I don’t even need to empty it very frequently thanks to its 2L capacity auto-emptying dock. I’ve been really impressed with its suction and brush performance especially for pet hair.

First time buying shark & not Dyson. Nowadays, it seems Shark is way better quality & price! Totally worth getting the auto empty as it cleans the tank, filter, screen each time you dock. Keeps it clean & maintained! Very light, so powerful, deep cleans & just way better performance. Only negative is battery! It drains quick, but u gotta bend ur back somewhere

I bought this product for Black Friday to replaced my Dyson cordless V8 animal vacuum. It seemed like a great deal and I want to give it 5 stars but I can’t. I will list the pros and cons below but the main take away is that, it does NOT do a great job with dog hair on rugs. Like below average to bad. I have a German shepherd who sheds constantly. I have to vacuum daily and this vacuum struggles mightily. I even considered returning it.
Pros:
- lightweight
- good battery life
- cool base station that the dirt collects until ready to be emptied
- worked well on my vinyl floors
- can bend to get under couches and tough to get areas
Cons:
- awful with dog hair on rugs
- very annoying that it locks back into upright position sometimes while vacuuming.
tldr - cool lightweight vacuum but DO NOT buy if you have a lot of dog hair and rugs. Struggles greatly.

The vacuum is excellent. Its strong suction makes a huge difference when dealing with dog hair, and with three dogs, that’s a lifesaver. It keeps the floors noticeably cleaner and picks up hair effectively. The self-cleaning base is a great feature it keeps the vacuum free of debris and ready for the next use. I also appreciate the built-in light, which really shows how much dirt and hair is on the floor. The battery life is solid as well, perfect for medium-sized cleaning sessions. Overall, it’s a reliable and convenient vacuum for pet owners. Additionally, you can adjust the vacuum to bend the vacuum to get those lower areas with ease.

This vacuum works incredibly well. We thought there would be a huge difference in power between a corded and cordless vacuum, and maybe there is for cheaper ones, but this Shark one is really strong. Admittedly its not as strong as our muxh larger and heavier corded vacuum, but its probably within 5 percent which is crazy when you cinsider how light and small this thing is. If we had known how good these were this would have been a purchase we made years ago. It has made life easy, it tucks away in a corner and doesnt look tacky, and it works very well on our hardwood floors. The only thing we dint recomend is not getting one-it has been a huge benefit to our daily flow.
