The Shark ION in white is a great everyday vacuuming experience for those too busy to get out the stick vacuum or are looking for a quick touch up when you are out. Shark's ION offers powerful suction and brushing motions to help ensure dust, pet hair, and dirt are removed from your floors and helping reduce allergens from your home. The ION comes with everything you need right out of the box including a charging/docking station. You can be up and cleaning in just a few minutes or wait about an hour for your shark to fully charge for a whole room/floor cleaning. I found this Shark robot vac to be exactly what we needed upstairs. We already have a different model downstair and it does a great job. This ION makes great strides in helping us keep the pet hair and dust bunnies under control on our mostly hardwood floors. It even tackles our heavy pile area rug with ease. My only complaint is the design is flawed in that the Shark backs into its dock rather than fronts in. Why? I have no idea since the collection tray is on the back of the vacuum. You have to physically remove the bot from the dock to remove the tray and then return it or push the dock button to get it back in to charging position. PROS - Shark brand and innovation - Powerful suction and collection for a bot style vac - Powerful motors power through bare floors or high pile carpet - Easy to set up - Charges quickly and is always ready - Connects with app for a great user experience CONS - Vac backs in making it impossible to remove the collection tray without remove the vac from the dock

Descent Robot vacuum but could be better

I was surprised by this little robot vacuum. This is Shark's entry level robot vacuum. It retails for $250 USD. This vacuum lets you start and stop cleaning and schedule your robot to clean whenever you want with the SharkClean app with one push of a button. You are now able to use Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant to easily make the robot clean at your command with just your voice. I had the battery last about an hour before it had to redock for a recharge. The recharge lasted about 3 hours. I have hard wood floors, linoleum, and rugs all over the house. And I do have to say that this vacuum did a very good job cleaning all the surfaces. BUT.... this vacuum would be absolutely perfect if I didn't have any chairs, benches, and tables. This thing ping ponged around for so long between the legs of the chairs and all of the furniture especially in the kitchen. This is where I think all of the battery power was spent lol. And since the vacuum would bounce and pivot to a different direction, I can see spots where the dirt wasn't swept up. Overall, this robot vacuum isn't bad. It cleans pretty good especially the open spots but has trouble within tight spots. And it isn't the speediest thing in the world. This is where the app comes in handy so you can set multiple cleaning times when you're not at home.

The Shark ION Robot Vacuum is an excellent robotic vacuum to have for cleaning your homes’ floors and carpets. I connected it with my Wi-Fi and became able to signal commands to the vacuum with the SharkClean app I installed on my phone. With extremely strong suction, it can run on Auto for full room cleaning and does an excellent job. A dirty carpet shows clean circular patterns after a run with the Shark ION Robot Vacuum. The strength of the battery is also shown through the app. I can also program the Shark ION Robot Vacuum to begin cleaning at a specific time every day. It works right out of the box, with plugging in the charging dock and snapping on the brushes and then using the SharkClean app to complete setup. The suction is extremely powerful for such a small vacuum cleaner. The tri-brush system picks up dirt from multiple angles. The Shark ION Robot Vacuum picks up dust, hair, dirt, small twigs and just about any item a large manual vacuum can pick up. It is a great addition to my homes’ cleaning arsenal.

For a long while now I have been thinking about getting a vacuum robot. First, they just seem like they would make a neat addition to the household, and second, you can just let them run and vacuum while you are doing other things, even away from the home. The opportunity came along to get the Shark ION Robot vacuum, so without really knowing what to expect, I ordered one. After getting it home and unboxed, I have to admit I felt just a tad intimidated. It seemed as though it was going to be quite a technical challenge to get the Robot up and ready to vacuum. But I was wrong. Shark has put a tremendous amount of thought into its quick start guide, so the whole process was extremely simple and easy. The first thing to do is find the spot you want to keep it docked. The footprint of the ION is a bit large, so I had to pick a spot that was open, but also out of the way, while at the same time having easy access to the floors. One thing I need to point out is that the large footprint is due in part to the need of the ION to have enough space to maneuver back into its home spot when it docks. That's just something to keep in mind. After getting it all situated, I let it charge over night. The quick start guide said three hours, but I was going to bed and I don't really know how long it took to get fully charged. But it was ready to go by morning. Before using it, Shark recommends downloading the Shark app, which I did. But as far as I can tell, the app is not necessary to actually use the ION. In fact, before I even connected the Robot to my phone, I let the vacuum run for about 30 minutes. It was interesting to watch as it would go until it encountered an obstacle, and stopped. It would do a little dance, turn around, and go again until it hit another obstacle, do it's little thing, and go again. And again, I did this without the aid of the app. Well, to be quite honest, other than being able to start the ION remotely, and defining a rigid schedule, there isn't much to the app. You can't use it to define boundaries, but I think this is a good thing because its ability to encounter an object and recover all on its own makes defining boundaries a bit superfluous. Don't get me wrong, I can see where under some circumstances it might come in handy, but for the most part I think boundaries are unnecessary. The final step is to simply connect the Robot to your home wi-fi, which I did. Wi-fi of course is needed to access the Robot via the app. The ION Robot has three touch buttons for controlling the unit...Dock - you push this button to cause the Robot to return to its docking station. Clean - this was mildly confusing only because I wasn't sure if it meant to clean the floors, or if it has something to do with cleaning the vacuum. It's for putting the Robot to work cleaning the floors. And finally, Max - this increases the Robot's suction power for cleaning carpets and other high maintenance areas. So, after letting it run for 30 minutes, I wanted to see how much it had accumulated in the bin. The Robot is fairly quiet, so I had a feeling its cleaning power was probably lacking. This silly thought lasted until I actually looked inside the bin. All I can say is that I am grateful no one else was around to see how much dust and pet hair it actually picked up! The bin was practically full. I didn't really want to, but I put it on Max and let it go again, this time for only 15 minutes. Yep, it picked up even more! The Shark ION Robot, from start to finish, is so use friendly that it requires absolutely no special tech skills to get it up and running. I love the fact you can just start it and let it go do its thing. You can use either the app or the onboard controls to initiate the cleaning cycle, increase the vacuum power, and return the unit to its docking station. As I said before, it isn't very loud, but even so, there is an option to put it into quiet mode (using the app) which allows you to continue using it when the noise might be a bit inconvenient. THE TAKE AWAY One thing to keep in mind is that the Shark ION Robot Vacuum is not the only vacuum you need unless of course you have very little furniture and keep almost nothing sitting on your floors. However, as a go-to vacuum for floor maintenance in-between deeper cleaning days, this is the one. It does indeed have great suction, and its picks up almost everything...and will not wrap hair around its rollers. All in all, this is one of the best investments you can make for keeping your home floors clean and presentable, and for keeping pet hair from making its way underneath your furniture. I highly recommend the Shark ION Robot to anyone thinking about getting one. It's a great investment, its easy to use, and it is extremely well made. Go for it!!

Robot vacuums have come down considerably in price over the past five years. Even the base models are now including features like App control via wifi that were once reserved for top of the line products. This Shark vacuum is an example of a lower price point but featuring aspects that were once only found in higher priced models. Here you have app control via wifi that allows you to remotely start cleaning from your phone. I found this feature to be helpful and a nice feature. Overall set up of this vacuum is not unlike most devices. Since this has a battery, it is a good idea to bring this device to a full charge prior to first use. As I neared that max charge, I went through and installed the app and then proceeded to set up the wifi for the device. All told the process was a bit longer than I would have expected as the app and wifi setup took longer than in some other devices that I've added to the network. Allow for a longer time than normal before thinking things are wrong like I did the first time. I had abandoned the wifi setup figuring something was wrong. It just takes a while for the device to connect and set up. Once the app control was set up I then clicked on the app to start the cleaning cycle and the vacuum came to life and proceeded to clean. I easily had the vacuum working for over an hour and half though I noticed the machine was less than willing to find the base/charge station and to back up onto it than in some other vacuums I've owned. Again, it took so long to connect to the base station that I thought the unit was defective but it finally backed up and started charging. Emptying the debris holding area was fairly easy as the black button on the back allowed the bin to slide out. There are two finger grips built in to open the actual debris lid - mine was fairly non-cooperative to open but I put more force into it and it opened. I dumped the debris and closed the lid. Slid the debris bin back into the machine and let the vehicle charge. Overall this is a fine product - made by Shark/Ninja so it is of a name brand build and should last for several years. Most of the time in my experience the batteries in these robots are going to be the most expensive part to replace and sometimes it is just better economic sense to buy a new lower priced vacuum that will have more features than what you were trying to fix.

    OK Entry-level Bot

Unboxing the Shark ION RV763, you’ll find the bot, the charging dock with attached power cord, and documentation. Initial setup was simple enough: Plug in the charging base on the floor of your home, remove all the packing from the bot, snap on the edge brushes, set the bot on the base to charge, and install the app to your mobile device. With setup complete, it was on to cleaning. On hard surfaces, like tile or hardwood, it readily picked up dog hair, stray kibble, or anything else it encountered. On carpet, like most other robotic vacuums, it cleaned the top surface fine but didn’t have the raw power to perform a deep cleaning. Mobility was no issue as the bot easily transitioned from hard surfaces to doormats to low-pile area rugs and navigated my floor vents without issue. Scheduling cleanings with the app was easy to understand and setup and ran reliably. Maintenance (emptying the bin and detangling the main brush) was easy to complete. With all that said, the RV763 is an entry-level bot. It features a minimal on-board sensor package and no mapping functionality. This means that it cleans by going forward until it encounters an obstacle, then it turns and continues at a different angle. Depending on the size and complexity of your space, the result can be that the bot obsesses over a specific space and misses other areas entirely. In my testing, what this translated out to was, when I gave the bot smaller spaces, it cleaned great. But when the bot was let loose in a larger, open-concept space, I would find dog fur tumbleweeds that would be missed entirely. It also means it has no ability to schedule specific room cleanings and can actually have difficulty finding the charging base when a cleaning is complete. Overall, the RV763 performs well with good suction and generally quiet operation. But with the lack of mapping, your mileage will vary.

    A solid mid-priced cleaning robot

This is my fifth robot vacuum and my third Shark Ion Robot; all the Shark Robots remain actively cleaning, an honor not shared by another major brand in my house. My first Ion Robot was easily confused by wood floors. It would go a few feet, freeze, and start beeping. Eventually I moved it to a carpeted floor, named it “Stucky,” and it all worked out. My second Ion Robot is a rock star; with a map of the home in its memory and a self-emptying tray, it is the opposite of Stucky in price and capability. My third Ion Robot is the RV736 Series 3, which falls somewhere in the middle in both capabilities and price. The RV736 can be controlled through the Shark Clean app, which allows you to start the cleaning process and return the unit to its base from wherever you may be. Connecting to the app through WiFi is a simple process that’s well-orchestrated, and the app itself is easy to understand and use. You can also run the unit just fine using the buttons on top of the unit, as the only real advantage to the app is the ability to control cleaning when you’re away from home. Once connected and charged, the first thing you’ll notice is the start-up sound when it cleans. Rather than sounding robust like a powerful cleaning machine, it has an 80s video-game cheeziness to it, like it’s using a little piezo speaker. It’s a minor thing, but it is rather grating. Cleaning is largely what you’d expect. It does pick up dirt and pet hair well, with the bin being completely full after each run with everything from dog hair to pine needles. It’s simple enough the empty the bin, and the rotating brush cleans easily. There are a few issues. The RV736 runs until it senses an obstacle, then turns, which is what it should do. A patch of bright sunlight counts as an obstacle, and the Ion Robot made several motions to avoid said patches. It does not track well along walls, which is, of course, where most pet hair collects. Invariably, it will veer slightly, either directly away from the wall or toward it slightly. Moving toward the wall causes the bumper to activate, which turns the unit away from said wall, leaving the pet hair behind. It does sometimes get trapped between chair legs, and has already been rescued multiple times from under the dining room table. Overall, while a few things could be better the cleaning capabilities of the RV736 and long life of my other Shark Ion Robots make it a good value for those who don’t want to spend for the top-of-the-line model.

Capable Vacuum Once Connection Issue Resolved

I received this robot vacuum approximately 2 weeks ago and had to wait to review this product due to connection issues. Once the Shark Ion Robot was successfully connected to both the app and Wi-Fi it performed extremely well. Through the app one can set a schedule for cleaning, set max clean vs regular clean, start clean, stop clean and dock the robot. I tested the robot on regular clean setting on my hardwood floor in my downstairs, approximately 1000 sq feet. I put all the kitchen chairs and stools up on the table to get a thorough clean. I threw some extra dirt, sesame seeds, and sand on the floor in random areas to test it’s pick up power. It ran for about 70 minutes and to my surprise, the floor was completely clean except for the corners and under my kitchen cabinets as the robot was too tall to get under it. The rest of the floor was immaculate and the battery dtill had 50%. I then tested this on my upstairs carpet (approx. 800 sq feet) on max setting and it performed equally as well. It drained the battery a bit more and after a 50 min run time, it was at 50%. I tested the docking of the robot by putting it as far away from the dock station as possible and it found the dock within 2 minutes and docked perfectly. I will need to take off a star due to the connection issues, something that should not happen this day and age. I tried this in my 2 different homes that have different WIFI’s, with 2 different cell phones, did all the troubleshooting items recommended on the Shark website (reboot router, modem, cell phone and disabling 5GH band on router) to no avail. Called Shark customer service and spent 30 minutes on the phone going through the steps I already tried. As I was getting elevated to a higher tech support, the phone call was disconnected and when I called back, I had to go through everything again (another 30 minutes. I was finally escalated to the higher tech support and was told I would receive a phone call in 24-48 hours. I received the call in 48 hours, while at work and when I called back, I was told it would be another 24-48 hours to receive a phone call. Not the best customer service. I finally did receive that second phone call and the higher tech support was able to troubleshoot the issue by going to a specific website through a browser. Is it a good product, yes. Do I recommend the product for basic robot vacuum cleaning, yes. But the customer service – simply disappointing.

Review for Shark Ion RV 763. I really like the price point for the Shark Ion RV 763. It’s not as sophisticated as the laser-guided models, but instead, uses the “gently bump into things and change course” cleaning method. This gives it something of a pinball trajectory. I also own a Shark model that uses lasers and runs up and down in a seemingly more organized “lawn mowing” pattern. I did a side-by-side comparison by using my older Shark one time and then the new Ion model another time. Although the more “orderly” robot vac might seem more efficient, the new Ion picked up just as much dust as it’s laser-guided sibling. The dustbin on the Ion has been redesigned to make it easier to empty and clean. The filter placement is identical and still easy to remove, but the plastic mesh screen is now 100% visible and easy to brush clean when you open the clamshell dust compartment to empty it. A nice improvement! Another change, that I think is an improvement, is the Ion vac docks itself by “backing into” the dock (dustbin first). It may not make a big difference, but this means the next time the vac launches, it just heads out of the dock to get to work. it’s sort of like backing into a parking spot — it takes a little more effort, but it’s easy to head out when you leave

I have always been a fan of Shark robot vacuums and this one is no exception. So far I absolutely love this vacuum. Currently I have a 6 year old Shark as well as a new Roomba. This one is not only the quietest unit by far but also seems to pickup the best (the older shark is not far behind). We have 3 dogs, one of which being a Husky mix that is in the process of blowing her coat and this picked up all the hair with ease. The sound level of this vacuum is amazing. I have never had a vaccum so quite. This is an added bonus as we have a 2 month old baby and were able to run the vacuum without waking him up. The debris container is also larger than most other robots out there. This means it can clean longer before it becomes full. This is extra ideal when picking up the hair of 3 dogs from carpet. The battery life is also exceptional; it ran for over an hour before completing its run. It still had remaining battery life when it returned to its dock and i was able to empty it and send it back out for another hour of cleaning. The only thing that would make this better would be if it charted the room vs bouncing around like a ping ping ball- but with this being an entry model that type of function is to be expected.

We have had the other brand of robotic vacuum for a number of years. An older model, then an upgrade about 3-4 years ago. We also have dogs. Well, we are down to one dog, but she sheds enough for a pack. Having a robotic vacuum is a necessity, as I am busy and tired. And I hate housework. I have carpet in the front half of the house, and wood floors with ruggables in the back half. I have had a shark stick in the past, and it did not get along with the ruggables. This bot has no issues with them. No curled corners, no trying to inhale the rug, just went right over it and cleaned. As you can likely tell, I am a big fan of this unit. That said, I gave it high marks for deep cleaning, but I am working on a bot scale. I will still run my Dyson, because I don't think it cleans as deeply as a regular vac and did I mention I have a dog? She not only sheds, but she tracks dirt...I will say I am taking less trips to the trash bin with the Dyson cup, so I think this Shark works pretty darn well. Bottom line - I was very surprised at the relatively low price of this unit. Well worth the investment.

I’m probably a little biased because I have and have owned several appliances and devices from Shark, and I have been very happy with all of them. The ION doesn’t have laser tracking, so it’s got the traditional “bump and go” path finding of running up to walls and furniture, then turning in ninety degrees to make its way around. The sensors seem more advanced than others though, as it slows down enough to not slam into obstacles. Cleaning strength - there’s a normal and a “max” clean mode. The normal mode was so quiet my wife actually commented on how pleasant it was. But the cleaning strength was significantly weaker than other vacuums, as I watched it run over a small piece of debris multiple times and not pick it up. When I pressed the button to switch to Max clean, however, the Shark ION easily swept up that same piece of debris. Even on max clean, though, I was pleasantly surprised that the noise didn’t jump up significantly. As far as I’m concerned, this is another example of Shark quality and an appliance working exactly as advertised. We’re very happy

I've been a fan of Shark (and Ninja) products for a while now and got this extra robot for our smaller living room. I've already got a shark mop/vac and have really liked it but I didn't think I'd need all of the extra AI features. I'm not 100% convinced that I don't anymore. If this was my first robot vacuum, I'd probably think it was cool and be fine with it but after spending years with a vacuum that has so many more features (by the same brand), I think I was just shocked at how much of a step backwards this guy was. Setup was fine depending on how you want to use it. If you don't want to connect it to your phone, just plug it in, let it charge and then press one of the buttons on top and let it do it's thing. It doesn't have any AI and doesn't make a map of your room or anything so it's all pretty basic. If you want to connect it to your phone and set up a schedule or anything, it should work fine. The setup process is simple enough. I had some issues that eventually got straightened out by their support after a bit of back and forth. After that was resolved everything worked fine. The performance of this bot isn't terrible but since it's not a smart robot, it can miss spots and/or it takes much longer to do it's job than a robot that'll learn and create maps of your room. This bot just works by running into something, turning and driving until it runs into something else. Rinse and repeat. It's a brute force method that mostly works but I did notice a spot or two that the bot had missed. There were a few more spots up against walls that were missed as well. I'm pretty sure a smarter robot would have been able to get these spots (they weren't in corners) but since the bot doesn't do a great job of hugging edges (since it doesn't know where edges are), it just has to happen across these spots with one of it's many passes. The time it takes to clean is also a lot more exaggerated since it doesn't have a map it can just trace over to make sure it got everything. The first room I did took over an hour to complete without being a super large or complicated room. The smaller room that the robot is living in takes a little less time but, again, I'm just used to my 2+ year old shark robot that uses a map to clean much more efficiently so it's probably more pronounced for me. I don't think I'll be getting any more "dumb" robots that just brute force the job by bumping and turning. It does a fairly good job cleaning (my carpets were quite dirty when I did my tests) but you're relying on the bot to just happen to clean everything. I wish there was a map that could be pieced together by just tracing the path the robot took but for the time being, all that's available in the app is a timeline of when the bot was activated, paused, docked, etc. That being said, Shark has always been really good about updating their app and providing extra features to my old AI robot over time so maybe it's something they can add to this bot in the future if the hardware is there to track it's path. If a more sophisticated robot with lasers and AI and mapping is out of your budget, this is a good starter bot. But if you're used to anything with a little more tech inside, this guy is going to get the job done.. usually.. and you'll probably be a little disappointed. This bot is a bit more affordable so it might work out perfect for you.

    Great Vacuum Robot for price-range

This robot for our living area has one major advantage over another similar cost big brand robot we use in the downstairs area, and that's that in at least some areas where the other robot often gets stuck, this robot just bounces right off the area and continues cleaning. It's not perfect when it comes to getting stuck (from 3 runs it got stuck one time), but it's the best at avoiding getting stuck when compared to similarly priced robots we own. On a positive note, it detected when it was stuck and played a short tune to get someone's attention (another vacuum I tried recently just spun in place for minutes until I intervened). One nice thing about these non-mapping style robots is that you can sort of guide them (by placing them or with your feet directing them) into an area you want cleaned and even block them into a part of a room. Some of the other "mapping" robots will insist on following a pattern based on a map location (you can "only" direct it with an app), where this Shark ION should be able to clean where you place it. If there's one negative, it's that it bumps into furniture (i.e. wood table/chairs) a lot and it's not clear if it's doing damage (over the last decade+ these chairs have taken a beating from a variety of vacuum robots; being all marked up on the bottom 3 inches where the robots strike). If you had a robot that supported object detection, which tends to be a pricier model, it would tend to avoid striking the furniture. When it docked itself, I made two observations: (1) this Shark ION parks 'backwards' compared to other vacuum robots we've owned, and (2) that means I don't have easy access to empty the bin while it's charging, that's inconvenient (though I can see "if" this were a self-emptying model, parking bin towards the dock "would" make sense.) We have five other vacuum robots in the house currently functional, and none of those five other blocks the dustbin when docked. The Shark ION paired to Wi-Fi easily! Yay. However, the app didn't seem to have any control or interaction or awareness of the robot once it was set up. The app reported the robot's battery as "Loading" and when I clicked the app to tell the robot to clean, the robot did nothing and the app said it was cleaning. The app had a 'locate' feature while it thought it was cleaning, and that didn't seem to do anything either. I'm willing to believe this was a temporary outage, because if it were a Wi-Fi problem, I would've expected the app to say it couldn't communicate with the robot rather than saying it was cleaning when it wasn't. It picked up a good amount of dust, most of the dust in the bin was stuck to the filter so I needed to brush that off, larger items than dust were in the bin itself (this was, for example, tiny beads from fall decorations and similar sized items). Given that this floor is vacuumed "at least" daily, the amount of dust it picked up seems appropriate and as good or better than similarly priced vacuum robots.

One bad experience aside, I have continually been a fan of Shark vacuums. Currently, I have a Shark Robot and hand vac downstairs and the same upstairs, and the RV763 was intended to replace an aging robot. Setting it up and connecting to Wi-Fi was quite easy. I have a cat and picking up cat hair is job one for any vacuum of mine. The RV763, even at the lowest power setting, does an effective job on both carpeted and wooden floors. Controlling the vacuum is easily done using the excellent Shark app, by voice via Alexa or Google, and manually via the easy to see onboard controls. The one thing that the RV763 does not have, as my other Shark Robots do, is a mapping function utilized before its first independent cleaning operation. Instead, this model relies solely on bumper sensors and cliff sensors. Unfortunately, this where the vac fails. On it’s first run, it ran around randomly and collided with everything in its way. It slowed for nothing: walls, furniture, etc. Hoping that issue would correct itself after getting familiar with the area, I cautiously tried again over three days. Nope, it still ran amok as if it were in a demolition derby. Never have I experienced this with any other Shark vacuum. Color-wise, it is a white Shark, but I doubt that explains the aggressiveness. Overall, as a vacuum, the RV763 does a decent job. However, performance comes at the potential cost of damage to walls and furniture. Only if a buyer plans to use it solely in an area that cannot be damaged would I recommend it.

Basic Unit That Does A Good Job

Got this as a Christmas gift and it's my first robot vacuum. I followed the instructions when it came to the set up and it was easy, including the installation and use of the app. It then required a few hours to charge before you could use it. I then decided to set it loose in my basement family room and noticed that it does a really good job when it comes to cleaning. It even went from carpet to tile with no problem and didn't have any issues with getting stuck anywhere. After the cleaning I just dumped the dust canister and saw how much it picked up which was a lot more than I expected. I think this is a good, first time, basic unit that does a decent job picking up dirt and dust. However, because it is a basic unit, it will bump into walls and objects unlike the more recent, sophisticated models which have the mapping system to prevent that from happening. Overall, I like having a robot vacuum do my cleaning and I'm quite happy with it.
