Mapping a cleaning were ok with this vacuum, but the battery failed after about 6 months. I called Shark and they said it was under warranty, but out of stock, and told me to go buy one from Amazon. A 2 year warranty is a joke if they admit their hardware failed and tell you to replace it yourself.

It really appears as though Shark went all-out with this one! I have spent a lot of time simply watching the Shark Matrix Self-Emptying Robot Vacuum do its thing around the house, and I am amazed at how great it really works at cleaning the floors. Set Up Unpacking and setting up the vacuum was simple and easy. Just a matter of removing the vacuum and the docking station from their cardboard storage boxes, removing all the plastic, and attaching the sweeper brush. It comes with a pretty good charge on it already, but its a good idea to go ahead and full charge it at the very beginning. At this point, let me say that together, the vacuum and the docking station occupy a somewhat large footprint, even more so when adding in the clearance specs recommended by Shark. With that in mind, you will want to find a spot for the unit that is not in the middle of traffic areas. While the Shark was charging, I downloaded the app. By the way, don't worry, Shark includes a Quick Start Guide to help out with the initial setup, and mapping of your home. So after the Shark was fully charged, I continued with the app part of the setup. As you go through the setup process, the app walks you simply through the process. One of the first things you will do is to allow the robot to map out the areas you want it to vacuum. To ensure a hassle-free mapping/vacuuming experience, it is necessary to remove any obstacles the vacuum might encounter, such as clothing, bed skirts, pet feed and water dishes, cords and so on. Then a couple more finishing up steps and its time to set up your map! The mapping process is a bit time-consuming, but I can see where it will save a LOT of time after the initial process. The Shark uses LIDAR technology to map out your home, which uses a laser rather than actual radar. It detects anything in its path over a certain size. After it maps out your home, it has to recharge, and then it can begin the vacuuming. The first time I used it to vacuum, I started it right before leaving the house. I was going to be gone for a couple hours or so, and I was a bit excited to see how well it did while I was away. When I arrived back home, the vacuum was in the docking station. When I checked the debris bin, I could see that the Shark had been quite busy, and had apparently done a very good job. I did a walk-through of the house and was absolutely happy with the results! I am a pet-parent, so fur is a constant battle. I probably went a bit too far in checking out how well it did, but I got out my regular vacuum to see how much pet hair the Shark left behind on the area rugs. I was astonished at how very little pet hair was left! Seriously, the Shark did a fantastic job! The next time I used the Shark, I purposely threw in a few changes to the original map it had discovered, just to see how it would handle it (this included putting up a physical barrier to prevent it from entering the kitchen area, and moving a chair to a different spot. For the most part the Shark did okay. It did try to get to the barricaded areas it had previously mapped, but did not try to go to any areas that I opened up access to for this test. The vacuum still performed extremely well, in spite of the changes. Now, the vacuum itself is amazing. It has great suction, it goes everywhere it is programmed to go, and the self-emptying aspect is such a huge plus!! It has the ability to maneuver over/around most objects that cannot be moved like my 70" television which sits on the floor using "legs." I also have a stand that uses a modular style base that I thought would cause the Shark to get stuck. It proved me wrong! After several uses, it has yet to get stuck any where. But the App...this is a disappointment. The app will not allow for any changes while the vacuum is busy, but requires that the vacuum return to dock. For areas that were not mapped during the initial mapping process, you cannot use the "Spot" clean function to clean them. You have to actually go through the entire remapping process. I moved some speakers away from the TV, and this left a roughly 2'x3' area that was not originally included. When I tried to do a Spot vacuum, it still would not go there. The app in general is cumbersome, ambiguous, and difficult to navigate...absolutely not user-friendly and not intuitive at all. Again, this is a big disappointment. However, even with the poor app, the Shark Matrix Self-Emptying Vacuum deserves its Five-Star Rating. It picks up debris and pet hair with no difficulties, and its self-cleaning brushroll performs flawlessly! This Shark Robot Vacuum now occupies a place of honor in my home, and I look forward to using it for many years to come!

Don’t waste your money! When it works its nice. I’ve had it since mid March and a few weeks ago it just stopped working! It charges and turns on but it will not move or clean. It keeps throwing out an error- we have opened it, cleaned all the sensors. Nothing is stuck or dirty. Everything works as it should. I have deleted it off the app, reinstalled it, reconnected to wifi. Just won’t work. Money wasted unfortunately.

My first robot vacuum. I got it in sale and couldn't be happier with my spent dollar

Started out great but within a few months problems began. It frequently thinks it's full when it's not, it won't start a cycle because it claims to need emptying when it's empty. It frequently disconnects from the wifi and then takes numerous troubleshooting steps to get it back online. Today we can't figure out why it won't reconnect to the wifi. We don't have these issues with any other wifi connected devices in our house and we are heavy tech users here.

PRETTY EASY TO SET UP THE APP AND GET THIS THING CHARGED. SCOOTS AROUND JUST FINE. HOWEVER, THE MAPPING FEATURE IS NOT DEFINED WELL AND INSTRUCTIONS TO DO THIS ARE NOT IN THE MANUAL.

This thing honestly sucks. Noisy, bumps into everything, gets disconnected from the charging dock easily, app is faulty, mapping is terrible. We don’t even have it anymore because it ran over poop which destroyed it and our rug. Put your money somewhere else NOT with this.

Not the best in the market. Only allows you to schedule a clean once a day. It worked but could be better. I ended up returning it.

Had the thing for less than a month, and it randomly stopped working. Luckily Shark replaced it through warrenty. However, the same thing happened about four months later. It had only been used like a dozen times. I really wanted to love it, and I did when it worked. But, for the price, it shouldn't stop working after only a few uses.

We have a dog and often get sand on the floor. This picks it ALL up! Love love love the self emptying feature too. Highly recommend! Side note, we did get it on sale.

I had wanted to buy a robot vacuum but couldn't really afford one. Then i saw this Shark and i have a regular Shark vacuum and love it and this was half the cost of the other brand! This Vacuum did not disappoint, I love it!

Does a fair job but the "brush" is so short it takes forever to clean our home. Neato did a better job in less time but dealing with Neato Robotics is impossible.

The product and software is excellent never had an issue, I have it running once a day, for around 2 months now. Extremely happy with the purchase.

Seems to be a great product with lots of suction power. Easy to clean but a very expensive price tag. 3 stars due to price

It works as expected, it's nice to have around. Minimizes the amount of time I spend on house maintenance.

This item has been great, it sweep all of the bare and carpeted areas and does not get stuck when transitioning for one to the other. Different length carpets, transition pieces all no problem for this vacuum.

Brush roll doesn't get tangled with long hair that much which is one of the main features I look for. Bagless is also a big plus.

Very mediocre! It does not pick up dirt on the edges or corners. In self clean mode, it passes by a piece of dirt 10 time clean all around the dirt but does not vacuum the specific dirt. A future smart vacuum should be able to detect dirt. A long way to go to be a smart vacuum. It's very loud when going back to the base.

This has been a game changer for me It picks up my dog hair with ease I got tired of stepping on hair, I set it to 7am so when I wake up no hair on floor.
