Constantly disconnected from the app and the app is the only way to control it. Called support multiple times and they just run you through trouble shooting until it starts working.

We received our Shark Matrix and set it up correctly. It didn't connect to wifi. Call Shark tech support. After lengthy conversation, a replacement Shark was sent and I was told to remove "guts" from old one into new one. New replacement worked for @ two days. Stopped connecting to wifi. Couldn't reconnect. Had 2nd lengthy call with Shark tech support. Entire new Shark is getting shipped since replacement body and original "guts" were lemons.

Absolutely garbage in less than 2 months. Worked without failure, I cleaned it regularly; now it no longer cleans, leaves the dock and returns within seconds. I called customer care and they said it was a software issue that was 99 dollars to fix and if I didn’t do it “RIGHT NOW” it was doubled when I could actually afford it. I’m so disappointed. I’ve had cheaper vacuums without a brand name on them that preformed better and lasted longer.

If I could give it zero stars I would. Does not work on area rugs. The so called radar that is supposed to see things and vacuum around them only works on large items, such as furniture. I have a dog and the dust bin in the base only holds two to three days of dust and dog hair. It constanly gets clogged when trying to self empty. I only set it to run in three rooms.

    The little robot that can

There’s an app for this robot that appears to be written by someone who wants to share the message with the general public that the robots come in peace and are not here to rule or destroy us. The language used in the app for the setup process is written at the third grade level and even includes cute suggestions for what to name the device. We ignored the advice and went with the name “George.” George is quite the capable robot vacuum. George does not mop, only vacuums. George is persistent and dedicated to finding the nooks and crannies we typically don’t like to look at due to dust mites and cobwebs. George doesn’t flinch. George even decided to 4-wheel himself over the round-metal 1/2 inch leg of a high chair in the kitchen that probably should have been thrown out years ago. It took him a full minute to navigate how to get over that leg and he stayed perched half-over for a minute while he calculated the right amount of force to make it over, but by-god he did it. And now he does it every time he cleans. A human would have seen that there is a wide opening on the side of the high chair and avoided the off-roading task, but not George. George is a tank and he likes to show off. To further prove his cleaning prowess he decided to tackle the living room couch. The couch is a 3-seat couch where two of the end seats recline. George decided that cleaning up to the edges of the sofa wasn’t good enough so he motored around the back where he discovered that there is enough of a gap under the left recliner seat for him to slip underneath completely and roll back and forth to clean most of the couch underneath. George is a cleaning beast. George still gets confused by white electronic cords hanging down from objects and tries his best to eat them. We’ve tried to explain to him that they are made by Apple, and not in fact Apple’s that should be consumed but George doesn’t seem to understand and happily goes about tangling himself in them each time we forget to move them out of his way. It might be a fun game to play with him to see how bad he can get tangled up before his wheels stop spinning but Apple charging cables are like gold so we can’t afford to play games like that. The house is mostly medium carpet with a few rooms of hardwood and tile in the bathroom. The real problem is the dog Lady. Lady sheds. A lot. So much shedding that we’ve been tempted to tie a rope around Lady’s leg and attach the other end to George so that he’s always following her around sucking up her discarded fur. But George doesn’t understand dog poop or the outdoors so we let George work his magic multiple times a day. It’s ok, George is quite when he cleans. The only real complaint we have about George is that the tank that he empties our debris into is bagless. Shark advertises a bagless collection bin as a good thing, saving consumers on having to buy replacement bags, but they designed a dust bin with nooks and crannies of its own that make it quite difficult to clean. For example after the first cleaning cycle Lady brought in a live tick and then scratched it off onto the carpet. George happily scooped up and deposited the tick into the collection bin. It took quite the effort to chase that crawling tick around the nooks and crannies of the dust bin to try and get it out so that it could be properly killed and then disposed of. In the end our fingers couldn’t reach it and we had to resort to using a tiny screwdriver to stab the thing. Had the collection bin had a bag, the tick would have been nicely contained in the bag and us never the wiser.

Does not empty itself. I end up having to empty it every time it runs its routine. It gets stuck in the same place every time; apparently it doesn’t have the capacity to remember to avoid that area. I was better off using my older Roomba without self emptying and better memory.

I’ll start by admitting I’ve always been very skeptical of these types of auto vacuum cleaners. Maybe it’s my age, maybe I just like old school upright vacuuming. We like to keep our floors tidy, as we have two little ones crawling around and laying on the floors constantly. Having two cats as well makes it difficult to keep up at times. Our trusty Shark upright vacuum has always done an amazing job. Seeing what it can pull out of the carpet in the bagless container after only a few days, is pretty nasty. Do kids and cats really produce that much hair and dirt in only a few days? The answer is definitely yes! Having kids obviously takes a lot of time, so we finally caved and decided to give a robot vacuum a try and wow are we glad we did. The Shark Matrix Robot vac is something of a revelation for us. With this unit we can easily use the SHARKCLEAN app to customize scheduling and do targeted spot cleanings with ease once the initial LiDAR vision 3D mapping is complete. You can even create zones where you don’t want it to go in the app once your home or area is mapped correctly. This is very handy in case you have things that it could possibly tip over, or simply things like toy boxes, beds (to go under) and dressers or other places like rooms you want it to avoid. We use ours in our finished basement only since we spend most of our time down there playing with the kids. Being that the basement is carpet and upstairs is all hardwood, more vacuuming gets done down there anyway. The robot itself has sensors that can bypass objects you may have left on the floor. That said, if you leave small toys on the floor, it won’t see them if they are really small and it will try to run right over them, or push them out of the way. My suggestion would be to pick up as much stuff as you can before your next scheduled cleaning, actually before all cleanings. This ultimately takes far less time than having to pick everything up and then use an upright vacuum, so it’s actually a win-win. Arguably the biggest point of my skepticism with robot vacs was, would they actually be able to clean like an upright. The short answer is not quite, but... it does a WAY better job than I expected. A good enough job that I really only feel the need to pull out the big upright Shark if there is an unexpected mess like popcorn, chips, or most any type of spilled dry food for instance. I still use the hose with the upright when I want to do corners and edges (by the baseboards) because let's face it, you could probably have a $5000 vacuum and it still wouldn’t get the corners and edges. Most robot vacs only go in straight lines, but this one has Matrix clean, which has the robot cross clean on a grid so no spots are missed. I have found that this works very well and definitely picks up more than it would with only one pass in a straight line. Our basement is only about 800 sq ft, so the Shark never runs out of battery during its cleaning schedule. I absolutely love the auto empty feature. After its cleaning run, the main robot goes to the dock to recharge and dumps its contents into the larger canister that is inside the base unit. How cool is that! One less thing to worry about. The box mentions you can run up to 30 days before emptying the main canister on the dock, but since we haven’t had it for 30 days, I can’t report on that for sure. I have been checking the main canister only on trash nights once a week and it is usually only a quarter full, so with that easy math, I am guessing that it will indeed make the 30 days as advertised. Lastly, while I can’t comment on longevity, since we have only had it a short period of time, I trust the Shark/Ninja name, as we have several products by them that are all solid performers. The build quality of this is outstanding, as are our other Shark/Ninja products. If the battery lasts and the kids don’t jump on it while it's running, I am hopeful that this will be up and running for many years to come. Thank you Shark!
